@MR. Right Yeah, people like to demonize the police. Like, what do you want? They enforce the law and some of them were in the military were they served their country. (Like the Swiss Guard and Swedish army veterans). Instead of protecting their country from external threats it's protecting the country from internal threats. Gangsters patrolling your neighborhood isn't ideal. Especially if you have a wife and kids. People these days.

It depends where you are in Canada too. Cops in the 6 and in Vancouver are pretty hardass, and have to be with all the guns and gangs. In the prairies especially, theres major racial tension between cops and aboriginal people. Being a cop in Canada isn't a walk in the park.
Agreed where Van and Toronto are concerned, but the tension in the prairies is understandable. I wouldn't have faith in the cops if I were indigenous, let alone the government.
Of course they are up here where I live in the interior of BC we call lower mainland cops. "Overglorified mall cops" or "superhero wannabes." Honestly the idea of going anywhere that has anything but RCMP is kinda spooky to me.
Speaking of mental health, I was in a treatment facility for PTSD in Ontario. When I arrived, a large contingent of police were being discharged but there were still a few there. There were also police dispatchers, soldiers etc. The point is, mental health is recognized as an issue in Canada. And in general, our universal insurance covers treatment. Depression, suicide, anxiety etc. are still issues in Canada, and there is still something of a stigma around it. But my experience is that the stigma is becoming less and people are more and more willing to seek treatment. I don't know how this compares to the US, but the fact that there were 4 suicides in the Capitol Police after the events of January 6 makes me think that more should be done there.
The interview process for Canadian cops is brutal. You can apply at 18, but don't expect to get in until you are at least 21. And almost no one gets in on their first application; they want to see that you are determined.

You totally missed a very important part of the wage comparison. Since Canada has universal health care you have yo take that into consideration. That'll mean another hundred thousand to the Canadian wage
American police officers have their healthcare fully paid by their employer on top of their salary. Going by this the average cop in the US makes $200,000+ USD a year…..

I was supposed to be arrested that day, but they didn’t. They [detectives] instead took my phone to find evidence of what I’ve done and what else I’ve done. They returned my phone after three months and never charged me with/for anything. If I was in the US, this would’ve been a whole different story. I love you, Canada 🇨🇦

You just compared American general cops to Canadian federal police force...elite like fbi. Our provincial and municipal forces ask that applicants complete police studies at community college, 2yrs, then apply to chosen force. The forces have training academy, often one per province, plus individual force training. They receive several levels of training. Canadian cops aren't local yokels and are well paid
As you said, it depends where you work, but municipal and provincial law enforcement salaries for years 0-5 range from 80-98k/year. More if you're specialized. The RCMP pays less, but the bonuses and subsidiaries such as housing, vehicle and living expenses are covered due to you being willing to work across Canada. Same with other federal agencies such as the CBSA, CSIS or CFMP, or the rail police like CNPS or CPPS

Please do Russian Cops vs Chinese Cops.
A_YT Depends on what police we’re talking about in China. There are regular cops who are unarmed and there is the PAP, People’s Armed Police. The PAP or in chinese we call them wujing (combat/martial arts office officer/cop/police) are basically SWAT but tougher and train more extensively in urban combat and mountainous terrain.
I wonder which one beats their citizens harder.

I'm Canadian and my neighbour unfortunately was killed by a cop a while ago! With an avg. of 15 a year, those odds are crazy...
Sorry to hear. My condolences go to the neighbour's family. That really is an unfortunate odd...
Wait was he a cop or was he criminal
@MR. Right Depends if the neighbor threatened the cop and was a criminal. Most criminals use the "I was innocent, police brutality" Card.

Bruh we have sunshine lists in Canada that show people salaries from public service over $100,000 and like at least 50% of Ontario police force is on it
It depends where you are in Canada too. Cops in the 6 and in Vancouver are pretty hardass, and have to be with all the guns and gangs. In the prairies especially, theres major racial tension between cops and aboriginal people. Being a cop in Canada isn't a walk in the park.
Yea the OPP and Vancouver city cops are a liitle harsher

20 pushups within a minute?

The interview process for Canadian cops is brutal. You can apply at 18, but don't expect to get in until you are at least 21. And almost no one gets in on their first application; they want to see that you are determined.

You just compared American general cops to Canadian federal police force...elite like fbi. Our provincial and municipal forces ask that applicants complete police studies at community college, 2yrs, then apply to chosen force.
