Did you fix it? Same thing just happened on my ice maker, I tried everything (reset button, turn off the whole thing and melt the ice) and the sound still happening. Come on LG I just bought it for two months.
Mine too . . . exact same refrigerator and same Craft Ice maker, making the exact same gear-stripping loud knocking noise when it attempts to eject the ice-balls..
Turns my power went off for a few hours and the craft ice melted a bit then power came back on and it refroze in a spot that it should not have so it was stuck. Finally used a hairdryer and melted it out and it went back to work just fine.

I called LG and they came and replaced it, I haven't had a problem since. It's been 5 or 6 months, so far so good.

LG sent a repair guy to replace the unit about 2 weeks ago and all is well so far.
If anyone knows a quick fix for this before I contact LG, please let me know.

There is ice that is stuck in mine and it’s making the same noise!
