    it seems like when people have sets, they check the flop >90% of the time in early position. So, if someone in EP bets out on the flop, it almost means they don't have a set, so you can raise your 2 pair hands with confidence or raise with your draw hands and not worry too much about villains snap calling or shoving all-in.

    Today is the first session I can remember this year where you've run really poorly over an extended session with a bunch of really nice starting hands and some good flops but a lot of bad turns/rivers in big spots...although as you said it was somewhat self inflicted. Unfortunately I've had many similar sessions of running horrifically in 2024... about 10-12 times this year and twice in the last 10 days, losing huge pots rivers as a big favorite when the chips went in on the turn heads up...just brutal variance. I've had a pretty good year overall, but have lost a high percentage of my really big pots this year when heads up and getting it all in on the turn at +80% or better, which really dings the hourly for 2024. The good thing is I've learned a lot about my own mental resilience and believe the scars will help my progression as a player in the long run...but it sure ain't easy.
    Nice comeback from your horrific day 1.

      Running bad happens, I could have played better to limit the loss. I take most of the blame. Over my poker lifetime, I have had several bought with negative variance that would make anyone shake their heads. Over 3 sessions, I flopped 7 top sets, all 7 were the nuts on the turn. All 7 got beat on the river. I wouldn’t believe it if it didn’t happen to me. But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I’ve learned to put bad runs behind me. The mental game of poker is underrated.

    Hi Doug
    I had AK off in the small blind facing 3 limpers (5 to call) 1 2 2 no limit . I raised to 45 and big blind snap call first limper call as well. Rest folded 3 players to the flop. J 3 5 rainbow and I lead out 50 try to give any pockets pressure lower then Jack. And big blind min raise to 100 with another 100 left.first limper fold and I folded them he show me one of the card was a jack which I think was pocket J. And I didn’t expect JJ because no 3 bet pre. Did I make any mistakes on that hand? Thanks

    Hello Doug! Hey you didn't really play the 96dd hand badly. You were getting implied odds, to go along with the direct odds to call.
    Yeah, it's a paired board, so he can have a boat. But the chances of that as I'm sure you know, are small.
    It was bad luck, not bad play.

    Q3dd: I don't think the bluff was all that bad. It was a small bet that will probably get better flush draws and maybe 8x to fold. It needs to win less than 1/3 of the time. A smaller bet around 1/3 or 1/4 pot might be better.
    99: I don't think the attempted x-raise was that bad here either. With 4 opponents it's likely someone will bet. If you had cbet, you probably would have ended up with multiple callers anyway. The 2h likely does not give anyone a better hand but does bring more draws. I think I'd just bet large instead of x-raising.

    • @dougmccuskerpoker
      @dougmccuskerpoker  3 месяца назад +1

      I really don’t like the bluff with Q3 because he bet the first T. He either had the a straight or filled up, the second T isn’t a counterfeiting card.
      99, I thought someone would bet, but just leading guarantees the pot gets larger. The turn raise could be bigger.

    Doug, here's a question for you I find myself playing on tables recently where everyone is call and bet Happy. The problem is that I try to play a good range and I always open with a raise and then I get no kidding 4 to 5 callers. It's not just me, it's everyone at the table. Even if I continue to increase my open amount I get the same number of callers. Let's say I have ace, king and the board comes Ace 2 4. I bet and bet and then lose to 2, 4. What is your strategy for playing on a table like this? thank you!

    • @dougmccuskerpoker

      I understand your frustration. In my experience keep playing good cards and charge people to chase. It is high variance but when you start making hands, your pots will be enormous. The days you don’t, will be like my first day and very frustrating. In the long run, you will make a killing in these games.
