Thanks Alex, happy belated Father’s Day to you as well. Just returned from Zion with the family, wonderful trip. Highly recommended putting family first in every aspect of life.
@@bm-goodboy6367Then you didn’t listen to the breakdown in this video at all. There are lots of hands that would beat KK and Doug said he would play them the same way.
I think the live six is a straddle and the dead twenty is a blind raise to twenty…. I think that’s what he’s saying. The six is live because they have yet to act and can come over the top, the twenty is dead because he can’t act if no one reopens the betting. Make sense?
Hey Doug that’s Zion national park the narrows I think about a mile in or so. But angels landing is amazing if you’re willing to do the hike. Parking is super limited so the tram is your best friend if you have time Bryce is not to far from Zion and panguitch has a good dinner something cowboy if I remember correctly. Thanks for another great video
Just got home, we enjoyed the Narrows quite a bit Angels landing is above my comfort zone. My brother did the hike for me 😀. I brought electric bikes for transport, had a blast. We also spent a day hiking in Bryce 🤩
Hi there! New subscriber and pretty new poker player here, enjoying your content, and NorCalPoker's as well! Fun to see the streams crossing ;) My question for you... other than just increasing your pre-flop bet sizing a blind or two at a time each round, do you have any advice about how to get a feel of the table you're on and how much of a pre-flop bet they can tolerate? I've noticed some tables can handle only 3x the BB before everyone folds but others I have to put in 10+BB or I have a big ole family pot.
Usually in the first round or two you can determine how many callers on average are seeing the flop. Then adjust your opening size to the number of players you would like to see preflop. Some tables players over call a lot, charge them for more.
Good guess, it’s Zion National Park in Utah. Just got home and was a fabulous trip. Smaller than Yosemite, but just as amazing. Also visited Bryce, couple hours away, definitely worth the trip.
@@sarthakmajithia991 the Narrows was my favorite part, highly recommended. Rent water boots and stick, you will be thankful you did. I brought water shoes because I wasn’t sure they had rentals my size, but I needed boots. Thick soles and ankle support. You can hike as far as you like, we went in about 2 or 3 miles. My brother went to the end. We had electric bikes to get around, shuttle service can be a long wait when busy. They rent bikes there also.
@@dougmccuskerpoker thank you Doug for the inside tips. I was planning on taking the shuttle to go around but it looks like I should go with electric bikes instead
Doug, thank you for allowing us to see the other end of that hand with NorCalPoker. I've been waiting for the big reveal; that was such in interesting spot. It was fun for me (and other viewers, I hope) to break down the hand from the other seat. I took way too much time to tank from the comfort of my office chair, but I finally calculated that the most probable holdings for Villain Doug, as played, were AJ or 99, and that the right play was a very loose call. (I truly believed I was wrong, and that you would indeed reveal a set or straight). Thank you again for the enlightening collab with NorCalPoker; this is next level poker vlogging!
It was a very interesting hand indeed. It’s would be hard to turn a hand as strong as AJ into a bluff. Normally you just make a crying call. Weaker holdings and made hands in my range would jam. Alex was in a tough spot and suspected some level of theft. It’s still tough to make that call with my perceived range. We spoke of the hand, I recommended playing it faster just like I did later that day with QQ.
Probably jam. What’s he losing to? JJ very unlikely to check turn and not many 8,5 in his range and those probably often bet turn. Maybe T,8 but some of those would probably also bet turn picking up double gut shot. That said, there’s many value hands Doug beats. That’s my armchair quarterback analysis, anyway lol. I’m no poker expert but I think it’s a mistake to check turn with KK.
@@KenDavis-uo8kq Perhaps, perhaps not. The board texture is almost unchanged, if you want a fold on an 8, but a call on a 9, you're engaging in wishful thinking, not poker. Given the reads, with a 9, you want the call and not getting it loses value.
@@KenDavis-uo8kq That would be a hard no. I have hundreds of hours, if not more, playing with him, have had many hands on his vlog and respect his game. That comment was directed at you.
@@jaykoni might wanna reconsider your statement, bud. We agree a river 9 wouldn’t change the board much (your statement). Doug says the river bet Alex made is “perfect” for him to jam his value hands and I agree with Doug. Did you listen to the vlog? Are things clicking now? Maybe comprehension ain’t your thing.
You never revealed what Alex folded. Since you already know, I think the right move for your vlog was to say what it was. I’m aware that you’re trying to get people to go to his vlog to see it. While that’s a noble thought process, I think your own followers deserve for it to be revealed by you. Between your two choices, I think your own followers should be the bigger priority. Just my opinion.
I watched his vlog and he had KK. My play was made because the range I thought he had beat my 99. 3 combos of JJ, the rest are top pair or over pairs. I didn’t care which one of the 1 pair hands he had. The bluff worked because my range was stronger than his. I didn’t have a reveal when he folded, I didn’t need one. It’s the thought process that matters.
@@dougmccuskerpoker I love your vlog Doug but, I had no problem with the way that you played the hand. You played the hand really well. I was just pointing out that I thought your viewers were better off having you reveal to us what he was holding since you told us you knew. No worries.
I understand why a reveal is nice, it provides closure to the play. I was just saying that the search for closure is not necessary. A poker players goal should be making the correct play for the perceived ranges. I could never be mad at you for asking a logical question 😀
@@dougmccuskerpokerPersonally I didn’t think a reveal was necessary. He clearly had an overpair or AJ at the absolute worst. I think the hand analysis was well done. No closure needed.

NorCal played it too passively. Not a big fan of blocker bets. I had sensed you were bluffing when watching his blog. Nice jam. A pot size bet on the QQ hand probably would have been ideal, but a W is a W.

12:50 _there is a live six, and the action player puts in a dead 20_ ??
What this all mean? Can this be translated into a poker language?
I think the live six is a straddle and the dead twenty is a blind raise to twenty…. I think that’s what he’s saying. The six is live because they have yet to act and can come over the top, the twenty is dead because he can’t act if no one reopens the betting. Make sense?
Exactly
The $6 straddle has option to raise, but the $20 blind raise does not. They only allow 1 straddle, some casinos have unlimited straddles.

Nice log. I like the “I know he knows I know” analysis when playing against a thinking player.
Most players are level 1 or 2, Alex thinks deeper than that and watches my vlog. Had to go to the next level against a thinking opponent.
Happy fathers day Doug. Nice breakdown, loved that bluff. Great vlog as always. Enjoy the vacation!
