I do fencing fencing French style and at the beginning I do enjoy hearing the sound. I do believe any arts are practice with all our senses. Interesting approach.
This information just put so many things into proper perspective for me. I greatly appreciate that detail. If you have been training Iaito, then you know that you can understand what he is saying based on the swing, and right at that moment, I realized I would transition my force and apply force. After that point, my sound is in front of me. I now realize I have been doing that wrong and will start correcting that mistake. Thanks greatly again!!!!
Very nice explanation of Gedan Men execution. Now I am thinking how to apply the same principles to Kesa Giri, Kesa Kiriage and Do Giri. Considering the position of the opponent and the blade angle. Technically it should be very similar, if not the same.
Thank you very much, I was actually doing it wrong; trying to put the Tachi Kazi out front of the strike instead of like you said. I’ll correct myself . I Appreciate it
I have one sword that swishes one that doesn't both katana swords could their be a bend in sword 🤔 somewhere the one that doesn't swear if I had to bring one of my swords to battle I would bring this one because it's sturdy super Sharp
Dumb question but if you don’t hear the swoosh, does that mean the angle of the blade coming down is incorrect or is it a failure to generate enough blade speed? Thank you
Usually it's in the grip (too tense) and you aren't getting a good high extension. You need some speed but it should be natural. Keep at it. Takes a while
I am having trouble creating the Swoosh with my cheap Iaito katana but my Shinken Katana is lighter and has a deeper Bo-Hi and I can make consistent Swoosh with that one! I think I just need a better Iaito?
@@kj908studio I would speculate that different replicas or even modern versions of iaito created for training or even different versions of the same replica have a different natural pitch. Even with the most optimal execution. Finding yours is critical for inner feedback
Hello, I have a katana made of wood that I worked on by my self it doesn’t have a guard it made to be one handed and it’s 2D do you have any advice on how-to hold it and other basics? Can katanas be pulled from your back with the right equipment thank you.
Hi thanks for chiming in. I have seen historical pics, katanas flipped around the back secured by the sageo over the shoulder, I imagine that would be for running or travel. Short swords are actually much easier to draw for the obvious shorter length.
The bohi makes it lighter and stronger like a "I" beam.

Oh this is a nice tip! Never crossed my mind to listen to the position of the swish...😁 Thanks for sharing as always
I talk to my sword. Sometimes I keep it next to me while I sleep
There's a story about a young samurai that slept with his sword hanging over him by a thread.
The blade is extension of one self
Thank you Sensei!

Bokken sound is sightly in front of my head!! But I do listen for that sound when I’m cutting.
Thank you for posting this nuance in technique!!!
I'm hearing the woshing noise at about forehead level to but until know I didn't know if I was doing it correctly till know
I did this and I heard what my sword is saying!!!!
Sword: wtf r u doing
I don’t need a bohi to get the “tachikazi”, it’s not as loud, the bohi makes it louder, but I don’t need it.
