The animated series ending is the real ending. The secret ending is an ending that makes no sense in the context of the story of Samurai Jack, and was clearly made to please fans who didn't like the actual bittersweet ending. It makes more sense for Ashi to disappear with Aku since her very existence is tied to Aku. The game doesn't even have a plausible reason to why Ashi survived. Samurai Jack's story could only end on a bittersweet note because Jack was always going to give up something for his victory against Aku.
To be honest, I accept both endings from the series and the game. Jack was able to return to the past and defeated Aku once and for all. Either way, he accepted the end results and was able to find a reason to be happy.
the game ending is the "perfect" ending, but the show ending can still be considered a good ending. He did lost Ashi there, but on the other hand, he recovered his family, his friends, and now has the chance to live the rest of his life in a world free of Aku's reign.
I agree. It is nice Jack gets to be with Ashi in the game (I did thought it sucks she died at the end) but Jack got a happy ending either way. Aku is gone forever, he's back home, reunited with his family, and can live in peace at last.
@@bdpickett True, Jack technically returned to the past a few seconds after leaving, so he is still displaced in time (even if only a few seconds). Meanwhile Ashi is now also displaced in time by traveling back, so in theory the two can be together until the end of time.

I thought Jack was going to meditate again like he did to get his sword back and talk to the gods to get Ashi back. But no they had to just let her die and make us all feel bad. That is how i would have written it.
The secret ending does makes more sense because if you erase Ashi from the existence everything of her interaction with Jack is supposed to not happened also that would also erase her help against Aku and would undone everything she had done for jack like transporting him back in the past. The argument of Ashi being gone is because of Aku being destroyed so everything Aku did is undone, Then it is also applied to Ashii, So everything Ashi had done will also need to be undone, So Jack would not had return to past too and defeat Aku. I do appreciate this videogame ending : I found that even if character-wise the serie's ending makes more sense with Jack's evolution, I can't help but notice that in the last season there's all this work with Ashi's evolution with her freeing herself from her past and choosing who she wants to be. The fact that in the end she's still chained to her DNA contrasts so much with all this "choose your on path" stuff that you end up with the feeling that she was forced into that ending to serve Jack's story. That would mean that she's no more than another secondary character that accompanied Jack during his journey instead of having a true story of redemption... I feel that even if we can consider this end like fanservice, there's no denying that this end respects so much more Ashi as her own character than the original one in which she's treated as an asset for Jack's ending. I finished the series just an hour ago and I haven't had the opportunity to play the game, but with this ending being an secret ending I feel like Tartakovski gave Jack the ending he trully deserved. Sorry for the long text, but I needed to get it out of my chest
So I got to thinking how the retcon allows Ashi to live despite the time paradox. She's a time remnant ala The Flash or like Avengers: End Game, she's the product of an alternate timeline, therefore Jack killing Aku may change his future, but not hers.
Actualy, she is not product of an alternative timeline, she is belongs to this timeline. Hard to explain, but if watch at her life like some point in Jack's life and then they went together, then... she still exists and future where she was born didn't changed.

Love how their dialogs are not matching in the original show. Original aku: wot? **gasp** you're back already?!? Game aku: Whaaat? You're back already?
TBH the secret ending is the most logical ending. The series ending introduced a paradox: If by killing Aku, Ashi is erased, that means Jack couldn't go back to kill Aku, because it was Ashi that helped Jack return in the first place. Rather, when Jack and Ashi popped back in the past, the timeline split.
I like the true ending, but the original ending had something special. In a sense, Jack was meant to lose everything in the future because he didn't belong there and some day had to travel back in time and bid farewell to the future including Ashi, because that was his whole purpose. It is kind of poetic how he had to suffers all those years in the future only to llse everything and suffer once again for the fate of the universe. It is not what Jack derserves, but in a sense it was his faith to suffer like a warrior for the future of the world.
Let's be for real: Who thought when you first saw this ending, you'd be crying in a bad way, but ended up in a good way because Jack finally had happiness?
In a way, regardless of which ending is shown, Jack and Ashi ending up together is really interesting to think about. Jack, his parents, and so many other people have suffered from Aku's existence, and it would be so easy for Jack to wish Aku never existed until he fell in love with Ashi. If Aku didn't exist and have the evil influence to inspire a very messed-up cult, Ashi wouldn't exist either! It's like how, even in the face of such suffering, something good can be built beyond that suffering... ^^
Really nice of them to switch out the re-dubbed audio of this scene and used the original audio from the first episode of Samurai Jack, not only does it better but it also gives let’s Mako have some part in the game.
I've been wracking my brain to figure out how this ending is possible since Genndy himself said the game was canon, but it flat-out doesn't make sense if the original ending is also supposed to be canon. There are only three solutions I can think of for this: 1) When Genndy said this game would be canon, it was to imply that the original ending no longer would be canon, meaning that this remains as the only canonical ending to the series. But that still doesn't make total sense, as nothing changed that should have allowed for Ashi to continue to exist with Aku destroyed. 2) Both endings are canon, and Jack's adventure through the time pocket literally allowed him to branch off into a separate timeline. This time, Ashi is allowed to live, because the only way for Jack to have reached this alternate timeline is for him to have gone on this adventure in the pocket timeline. The only way for him to go through that adventure, is if he'd previously gone through all his other adventures to get to that point. Meaning, this alternate timeline and Ashi both share a common progenitor, which means Jack going back to the past via this new timeline doesn't result in a grandfather paradox that results in Ashi's death, because the new timeline itself only exists by virtue of Aku having taken over the future in the original timeline. So while this ending occurs as a consequence of this game's story, the original ending where Ashi dies is simultaneously occurring in the original timeline outside of this new one. 3) Genndy doesn't know what the word "canon" means and we have no idea which ending is the "true" ending. I'm going to go with the second option, because it's the only one that feels satisfying while also making a somewhat decent amount of sense to me.
The fact they tease you with Ashi still being dead with the ladybug on the finger tells me they knew exactly what they were doing and I love the writers for it
If we follow avengers endgame logic of time travel, Ashi can still exist because they returned to and created alternate past. They didn’t necessarily erase the original past. They are just now in an alternate universe.
**sees the post-credits scene** I didn't know I needed this, emotionally, but I'm glad I did. I understood that the old ending was saying how the cost of the overall victory was the bad future...but **this** ending was something Jack deserved.
Now..I love both endings for Samurai Jack, but I feel what they could of done that after Jack defeats Aku finally, the Deities reward jack with giving Ashi some way of remaining with Jack.
My theory is that Aku's meddling with their travelling to the past detached Ashi from the laws of causality that would have resulted in her paradoxical erasure. This ironically not only saved her but made his defeat viable, as without her, Jack getting into the past.would have been impossible, meaning the show ending was still a time bending paradox.
@Dr. M. H. We don't see her disappear in this version. Presumably that didn't happen in this timeline. The ladybug was something Ashi saw when she was a child that left an impact on her. Jack not harming one convinced her to consider that he might be telling the truth. In the original end scene, it was a reminder of her that helped restore Jack's spirit. Here, it's a part of the red herring to throw us off before her reveal.
Alright, this is the most logical ending, all things considered. So, we're just going to agree that that this is the canon ending? Good! Glad to hear we all agree!
Man I’m so glad this is actually a canon ending, I saw this ending before I knew it was real. And immediately was like, that’s some fan made “true ending” ain’t no way. But this, this is what we needed
I think the Jack that sent into the future again will live in the future made by Jack that return to the past, might be professor Plutonium in disguise after seeing the future created by Jack that return to the past.
on the blu ray there's a special feature called the evolution of jack and i know he talks about ashi from the trailer promoting it does he talk about the ending and why he had her cease to exist?
Jack's fate seems to resemble Simon's...both sacrificed their love for everyone's sake, their love vanished in their supposed marriage, but on a certain game, they're able to enjoy a happy life with their love even after destroying the enemy that "maintained" their existence
Genndy Tartakovsky should put this in ending of the episode The Final Battle/The End instead of Ashi fading away, both Jack and Ashi continue their wedding and finally together in the final scene enjoying a future without Aku.
Now THIS is the canon ending I like, cuz now it means that Jack probably started a family with Ashi and eventually, we got his descendant, Professor Utonium.
It's all coming together...
And I presume, Ashi's blood became first chemical X?
God please can we let that theory drop.

It's like how, even in the face of such suffering, something good can be built beyond that suffering... ^^
"Even in Darkness, there is Light."
Even amogst the most furious of storms, the gentle flower blooms under the kind shade of the tree
A happy ending for Jack, he earned it 10:10
Now they can finally be together and start a family
maybe genndy will continue from this
For April Fools 2021 Adult Swim needs to run the Samurai Jack Season 5 marathon but have this ending on the final episode. 😭
Jack: "50 years have passed, and my quest has finally come to an end. Thank you, Ashi."
THIS is the ending the show deserved. Phenomenal of them to not only create this but also for it to be officially cannon.
9:56 If only THAT ending were possible in the original animated series……………….
Well this is the canon ending
Best ending ever in Samurai Jack
That's right
The original series ending was better.
I'm so happy for Ashi is alive
Really nice of them to switch out the re-dubbed audio of this scene and used the original audio from the first episode of Samurai Jack, not only does it better but it also gives let’s Mako have some part in the game.
I've been wracking my brain to figure out how this ending is possible since Genndy himself said the game was canon, but it flat-out doesn't make sense if the original ending is also supposed to be canon. There are only three solutions I can think of for this:
1) When Genndy said this game would be canon, it was to imply that the original ending no longer would be canon, meaning that this remains as the only canonical ending to the series.
When Ashi died in the pocket of times she was rejected by history in the past, she doesn't die in this timeline
The fact they tease you with Ashi still being dead with the ladybug on the finger tells me they knew exactly what they were doing and I love the writers for it
yup genndy knew it would shock people i almost fell for it to
Much better damn ending than that stupid hurtful one in show. WhatEVER
logic always hurts my friend.
The perfect ending for samurai Jack
Huh, this helped me resolve something i didnt even know bugged me
If we follow avengers endgame logic of time travel, Ashi can still exist because they returned to and created alternate past. They didn’t necessarily erase the original past. They are just now in an alternate universe.
I wanted to see the last one
The one of Ashi's made me try to hold my tears
This game was better than I expected
3:09 Aku Sword!!!!
now with this ending that the creator confirmed the canon ending of the series jack and ashi can live together❤❤❤❤❤
If there's one thing I always loved in any Story. It's when the hardworking Heroes finally get what they deserved and for these two, It's Perfect. ❤
You know, even though I haven't played the game based on the iconic show, I somehow like this ending 8:02-10:34 better.
After everything he's been through... He well and truly deserves this ending... Thank you for making my Childhood Samurai Jack...
At the end, she is not real, she is the memory that comforts him.
So like if we collectively strike the bad ending from our minds maybe it will cease to exist
At least this game is canon, which means: Ashi is back and will live!
I am so glad I found this video. THE TRUE CANON ENDING!!!!
tartkovsky you are officially forgiven
That OG ending never sat right with me.........that shit had me legit SAD lmao this is waaaaaaaay better!
A sad ending. Nothing wrong with that.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 my thoughts exactly
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862Sure that's fine I just didn't like it.
@@supernormalguyman5523
Boo hoo.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 Have a nice day.
Thanks for everything Genndy, and goodbye Samurai Jack
That hip hop at the end, is such a mood killer XD
**sees the post-credits scene**
I didn't know I needed this, emotionally, but I'm glad I did.
I understood that the old ending was saying how the cost of the overall victory was the bad future...but **this** ending was something Jack deserved.
That music right at the end 😂 "AYE YO SENSEI TEACH ME SOMETHIN'"
I think I finally got it. The only way we got Jack’s happy ending is getting it with him.
Finally! My boy got the break he deserved. Happy trails Samurai.
Now..I love both endings for Samurai Jack, but I feel what they could of done that after Jack defeats Aku finally, the Deities reward jack with giving Ashi some way of remaining with Jack.
Now, this is the ending Jack and the fans want.
I’m fucking crying over this I love it
10:07 Did 3 gods create Ashi to exist right?
My theory is that Aku's meddling with their travelling to the past detached Ashi from the laws of causality that would have resulted in her paradoxical erasure. This ironically not only saved her but made his defeat viable, as without her, Jack getting into the past.would have been impossible, meaning the show ending was still a time bending paradox.
Aku broke the time
@Dr. M.
3 gods that's what i mean
Okay I guess we’re gonna pretend that we didn’t all get a load of Jack’s upskirt
Jack married Ashi,to live in peace...So that they can start a new life,a new path and a new future 10:20
AHHHHHHHH MY HEART
if the bluray didn’t come out already this ending could’ve been a good addition
on the blu ray there's a special feature called the evolution of jack and i know he talks about ashi from the trailer promoting it does he talk about the ending and why he had her cease to exist?
Hey, Genndy says this is canon.
M so happy after watching this ending. Samurai deserves to be happy after years and years of hustle.
it even has a better explanation for how he got back to the present
This is exactly like in the series that I love to watch.
I'm so glad Jack finally return to the past and defeat Aku at long past.
For some reason, I couldn't watch the ending without the video being out of synth in the ps4 version
Hit like as a petition, to make this ending the official one on the show
That would be if simply he defeated Aku in the present instead of the past timeline where Ashi wasn't supposed to be even born.
With this ending, I can now sleep peacefully
Everybody loves somebody sometimes
I came here after bawling from the shows ending.
After seeing the true ending im happy for jack and ashi after everything jack has gone through he earned his happiness
Jack's fate seems to resemble Simon's...both sacrificed their love for everyone's sake, their love vanished in their supposed marriage, but on a certain game, they're able to enjoy a happy life with their love even after destroying the enemy that "maintained" their existence
My boy Jack gonna clap some cheeks 💪🏽
this is must be the multiverse ending and aku is still jacking up the other timeline
This. This is the way. Its enough to make a grown man cry........and thats ok 😭😭😭
No.... damn him.... he made me cry twice now 😭, also check out his new show PRIMAL it’s good
Genndy Tartakovsky should put this in ending of the episode The Final Battle/The End instead of Ashi fading away, both Jack and Ashi continue their wedding and finally together in the final scene enjoying a future without Aku.
