@@adukaxp Basically, what happened to Ashi in the series finale: the love interest for the main character disappeared into thin air right after they were married. They were still on the altar when she faded out of existence.

The season 5 ending was the true ending of Samurai Jack. This secret ending is merely fan service that doesn't make any sense in the context of the series.

I respect the original ending, but it left a bad taste in my mouth, and was the reason I didnt want to get the game, seeing ashi die again. 2017 killed a LOT of characters off, and u could tell it was gonna be that way when the dude who CANT die(logan) dies FIRST at the start of that year🤧 It sucked to me that jack had to choose between duty and love, but this game removes that and gives mans the ending he, and we ALL, deserve. It's been 3 whole years since the series ended back in like april 2017, I'm glad theres still love for it, and I'm glad they rewrote the ending to give him the love and peace he deserves after over 50 years of being on his own. Finally got back, Back to the past, Samurai jack💪🏾❤💯
I thought they were going to go the "alternate timelines = different universes" route and have Jack use the portal with the Guardian in the past to go to the future and be with Ashi. Especially since the portal tells the Guardian that he's worthy to use the portal, just not at that exact moment.
Yeah, it’s nice seeing in this comment section that there are actually a lot of people that love this. I think a lot of writers and directors underestimate how much fans come to love their characters and just want to see them happy.
One example i have is Ezio from Assassins Creed. During AC:Brotherhood with the Christina missions it was revealed she died in his arms during the bonfire of the vanities(real world date; Febutary 7th, 1497).
Finally, after all he's been through, having not seen his home in literal centuries and going through all kinds of hell to kill Aku, he finally gets it, he finally gets a truly happy ending.
This honestly gave me goosebumps. Knowing that jack that cartoon character I used to watch as a child found some peace and even love. It might just be a cartoon but I'm happy. His face in the thumbnail I wish I could feel like that.

@@UltimaSaviorDragon Yeah. Before I found out it was real I thought 'whatever happened in series, happened and that's life.' but now I see I was wrong.
It occurs to me that I don't know what Ashi dying actually accomplished narratively or thematically. I'm not against the bittersweet tone, and theres a good argument that it ties into Jack's struggles in the season by saying "despair and good things ending doesn't mean you can shut down and deprive yourself of the beauty that still exists just around you," which I do think is profound. But especially for a season that's defining trait it long-awaited closure, I feel like the simple act of Jack ending happy without asterisks was appropriate. Jack is finally rewarded with tranquility for perservering all the years of struggle and ultimately not losing sight of the quest only he can do, and Ashi is rewarded for the inner strength and self-determination demonstrated by turning away from both her upbringing and very existence in the name of good.
so you think that rewarding someone for betrayed her father for the name of good is being erreased for exisitence???????..... beside, narratively makes absolutly no sense, ashi is the direct responsable for jack comeing back in time, if defeating aku makes ashi banish into oblvivion, jack should and must banish with her!, since it would mean to time that jack can't be there since the reason for him being there doesnt exist in the first place!
@@poijnve3912 I was talking about the timeline where she lives. Also time travel logic is convoluted enough that stories can do whatever they want imo. So long as the explanation and consistency is there I don't care about the logic behind it, I care about what the story does with it.

I would make this point about the original ending: Season Five centers on much of the torment Aku causes for Jack. It’s an element we see throughout the story as a whole, but Season Five took it to a whole new level. He destroyed all of the time portals, made Jack enraged over that fact, put him in a situation where he killed innocent life in anger and to top it off, forced Jack to live for 50 years knowing full and well that if Aku knew he had lost the sword he’d kill him for sure and continue to inflict suffering upon the universe. Jack’s failure was virtually complete to the point where he was compelled to commit sepuku by the spectral samurai. Aku brought him low, but Jack overcomes this and rises up with his newfound hope given to him by Ashi. Her actions cement Aku’s reign of terror. However, Aku is literally evil incarnate. He’s not a mob boss or an evil dictator or what have you. He’s lacking in humanity completely. It’s only natural that in his death, he inadvertently commits one more act of cruelty by taking her with him. That’s the way I take it anyway. It’s just poetic that Aku gets in one final shot after his death.
Gamer Singer i dont really care about logic in samurai jack though. Even so, why didnt they make her die after killing aku? Why did they wait until the wedding? They could make jack doubt about killing aku bc ashi will die after killing aku for example. I would say this alternate/secret ending is better cause like i commented before, no reasons for ashi to die, just a good old helping each other achiving the happy ending.
There is no reason for Ashi to disappear. However, I see one wrong thing here. If killing Aku means Ashi disappearing is a guarantee, then as soon as Aku was officially slayed, and when Ashi said "I can feel Aku leaving from my body," she should've disappeared them and there, not wait several days, or even months. Those sailors must've taken days to arrive for the wedding, and even more to deliver said invitations etc. That's BS. So if Ashi was ok for weeks, she had no reason to disappear.
@@DrPonce09 there is an old saying that helps with that: where there's a will there's a way. Maybe she wanted to spend as much time with Jack as possible and just couldnt anymore.

I imagine after their wedding night they went for a stroll and decided to rest at a tree to simply take in the tranquility of their (well-deserved) peaceful life. And through the years it becomes their routine to stroll through the mountains, rest at a tree, and be content with the fact that this is real. That they're together and at home, for always.

Okay so I guess how this works is that as a result last ditch effort to survive and defeat Jack, a version of Future Aku is ultimately trapped in the pocket timeline he created. Because this version of Future Aku still technically did all the stuff that led to Ashi's birth and is trapped instead of dead it splits the timeline (presumably also preserving the Future that is Aku though likely.. with Aku still gone from it from that time forward) and creates a Time Paradox that allows Ashi to keep existing despite Past Aku's destruction and retcons the original S5 ending.
yes aku trapped himself in the pocket thats why the paradox will never reach ashi they're free of aku forever and with his essense out of her body she's completely human

I like how the series ended, but MAN THIS IS GREAT. Jack deserves to be happy after all he's been through and Ashi should get to live a normal happy life, too. Samurai Jack is the only show that I've watched that had two different endings. And the weirdest thing is I love both of them. Thanks Genndy for reminding me that you're awesome. Can't wait for Primal part 2 next month.
Aku creating the time pockets of the future not affected by space or time is why Ashi lives. With that future never fully erased, Ashi's birth is not erased. Aku is still beaten in that future so it's a plus.
Interesting, didn't think they'd actually do this. I mean, I would not at all want this to have been the show's ending (the bittersweet ending of the actual show fits it so much better), but I don't mind this as unlockable alternate ending thing for those who want it.
The 'canon' ending is just a ripoff of an Anime's ending where the bride-to-be also gets erased. THIS ending is what everyone's been waiting on. Sure, they rushed their relationship in-show, but they finally made that entire storyline with Ashi worth it. No erasure timey-wimey ball bullshit (yet?), just a cute ending where Jack doesn't have to die inside and accept it in like 5 mins of time.

I thought they were going to go the "alternate timelines = different universes" route and have Jack use the portal with the Guardian in the past to go to the future and be with Ashi. Especially since the portal tells the Guardian that he's worthy to use the portal, just not at that exact moment.
@@paulschlacter4181

Especially touching given how rare is just having a simple "guy gets the girl" ending, no twists, no sudden subversions, nowadays
Yeah, it’s nice seeing in this comment section that there are actually a lot of people that love this. I think a lot of writers and directors underestimate how much fans come to love their characters and just want to see them happy.
(angry Rian Johnson noises)
"The guy gets the girls" is like a subversion of the subversion making it not normal these days.
One example i have is Ezio from Assassins Creed. During AC:Brotherhood with the Christina missions it was revealed she died in his arms during the bonfire of the vanities(real world date; Febutary 7th, 1497).
And 'girl gets the guy', after all Ashi was put through. She finally gets a happy, peaceful life full of kindness.
Finally, after all he's been through, having not seen his home in literal centuries and going through all kinds of hell to kill Aku, he finally gets it, he finally gets a truly happy ending.

OH HAPPY DAY!!!😄😄😄
It occurs to me that I don't know what Ashi dying actually accomplished narratively or thematically.
Jack is finally rewarded with tranquility for perservering all the years of struggle and ultimately not losing sight of the quest only he can do, and Ashi is rewarded for the inner strength and self-determination demonstrated by turning away from both her upbringing and very existence in the name of good.
this is a beautiful reply and I agree fully with you
so you think that rewarding someone for betrayed her father for the name of good is being erreased for exisitence???????.....
beside, narratively makes absolutly no sense, ashi is the direct responsable for jack comeing back in time, if defeating aku makes ashi banish into oblvivion, jack should and must banish with her!, since it would mean to time that jack can't be there since the reason for him being there doesnt exist in the first place!
@@poijnve3912 I was talking about the timeline where she lives.
Also time travel logic is convoluted enough that stories can do whatever they want imo. So long as the explanation and consistency is there I don't care about the logic behind it, I care about what the story does with it.
@@moonmannd7501 ........, time travel logic is not convoluted enough that stories can do whatever they want......
if jack destroying aku, makes ashi desapeir. jack must desapier with her, since ashi is the DIRECT being behind jack traveling to the past......

so you only either care or not care about it, but you cant just care about one part -.-
I would make this point about the original ending:
Season Five centers on much of the torment Aku causes for Jack.

The true ending as it should be. Now he can rest, his journey is complete.
I actually kinda like this ending. There is no reason for Ashi to die at the end.
Duy Ngo
Actually it kind of had to happen in order for it to make sense.

This is what Jack as a character deserves a happy ending with the one whom he deeply loves, I am glad they gave the fans exactly what they wanted a ending that was true and heartfelt
