    How Aronian defended his knight from like 16:00 was insanely instructive. And how Anad's bishop covered all the knight's options whether it was on a4 (Which aronian probably saw) and d1, which he probably didn't.
    That's why they're grandmasters, and I'm just some guy.

    Mr. Finegold, I'm disappointed i no longer live in Atlanta. It's really a privilege to have all these great lectures to learn new ways to annoy chess players. Thanks for that. And thank you for sprinkling in some culture for the next generation to puzzle over as you get older.

    The white to play Bf3 move at Lecture with GM Ben Finegold (The Candidates Tourney | Anand vs. Aronian) - 2014.03.19 removing one of the defenders on whites king was to protect against a different move. Aronian was afraid that it would become a monster but not by black moving Bf7 but to Bf3 forking whites Queen and Rook that's defending the king. It did look like a strange move though but his first mistake was moving the pawns from in front of his king. Love your lectures thumbs up Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis and Ben Finegold!!!

    • @MrSilencetreatment
      @MrSilencetreatment 8 лет назад

      +ATCFaust he might have been kidding when he said that. I agree, Bd5+ seems to win for white but I might be missing something. Two bishops for a queen and the only compensation for black is the past pawn which can be easily carried to queen with the help of bishops and rook. Hummmm! not sure

    • @joedoe6836
      @joedoe6836 8 лет назад

      +Mr .Rodriguez Yeah, plugged it into fritz (6) and it looks like Bxc4 is the second best move (best is Qd7, threatening the pin the queen, and then Bd5 bxc4 and exchange everything on e6)

  • @aliaz1801

    In 11:14 i think this is the plan not what ben said...
    Black predicts white wants to move his g pawn to g3 and be ready for F pawn to f4 attacking rook so black moves his bishop to c8 and stop white's g pawn move (because g2 pawn is defending h3 pawn)... After black's bishop c8 move white decided to defend his h3 pawn with another piece to be able to move g pawn to g3 and next f pawn to f4... And after white's bishop move black decided to move his rook away from danger...
    Im noob in chess so sry if my opinion is trash...

  • @JAIGOLOKASW
    @JAIGOLOKASW 7 лет назад

    what about at 9:43 seconds in the vid where anand could have forked the rook and pawn with a move of bishop E3 to F4, that would have been a better move because it pins the rook to a another free pawn for Anand, I think both players missed that and so did Ben.

    • @ahmadburhanhabibi
      @ahmadburhanhabibi 2 года назад

      Black rook just go to C4 or E7 to defend the pawn, and white bishop on F4 would be weak and easy to be attacked next time

  • @theadventure4683

      Runs into Ng4 from black threatening Nxe3 winning the bishop. Re1 is not possible in view of bishop on b4.If Qxg4 then Qxe3 check followed by Qxb3 winning the knight followed by deadly attack.

    Be says, the knight wont take the bishop. But does anybody know why Ne3 does not work?
    If Bxe3-> Rxe3, and black traded the knight for the black bishop.
    if NOT Bxe3 .. the rook and the bishop are forked. If white moves the rook, black takes the bishop. If not... wel the rook.
    Anybody coud tell me?
    ------------------
    And in the seond game:
    37:05 ... ben says, Bxc4 is best, but black does not play it.

    • @hiddeenfreek
      @hiddeenfreek 7 лет назад +3

      He would probably win zero games.
      When you put their ratings into a formula it gives:
      Your rating: 2840(Carlsen) Opponent's rating: 2483(Finegold)
      Probability of winning: 0.886457623663951
      So Magnus would take almost 9 points in a 10 game match. Which is 8 Wins and 2 draws for Carlsen.

    On Anand, I find him a conventional player, positional and careful, unlike the brilliant Tal, Polgar (retired), Morphy, and Fischer. Carlsen, can be both at times, a bit inconsistent but the clear favorite in the upcoming battle of titans.
