- Welcome to the new UNWATCHED Series - there are some 3D animated movies that I have never seen. And this series gives me the good excuse to finally get around to watching the ones I missed. And SOMEHOW, an Illumination Movie is on the board. Sing... was a good movie. And is it's sequel equally TERRIBLE? Come find out with me as I test out a new format that admittedly terrifies. Find it interesting that Johnny is the only one that has to learn a whole new ability in both movies. In the first movie he had to learn how to play the piano, and in this movie he had to learn how to dance.

I think Calloway and Ash are supposed to be a father-daughter relationship but the idea of this movie canonically including a relationship between a early 20s woman and a 55+ year old rich man is funnier to me.

The cool thing about Gunters play is that even when he couldn't pin anything down, it was because he was trying to give everyone equally important parts. Nobody was left in the trenches, not even Porcha.

Gunter was like the glue of the group, the positive friend who encourages and keeps everyone together, more so than their actual group leader, Buster moon. He was alright, but Gunter showed better leadership skills.

I will never get over Halsey's "It Could've Been Me" performance as it is one of my favorite songs, and I truly NEVER get over Johnny getting his bearings and absolutely DESTROYING his mentor in that battle. Just shows he really is a gentle soul at heart but he can (AND WILL) put you in your place if you get out of line. The character development for him is so nice, he really does got a bit of his Dad's anger in him.
Loved that scene. I also love how Ryan, his dance partner, was so supportive of him the whole time! This movie cares, you can tell, there are a lot of little details.

2:30 Elephants are unable to jump due to their weight and joints, so you are kinda right about their falldamage, which leads to funny interactions, especially baby elephants rolling down small hills not knowing how to get down otherwise
this is such a comfort movie for me, idk I really like the "trying to make it in the city" story

The sequel was alright, but it just rehashed several plot beats from the original. Buster once again lies to save the show, recruiting an old star in the process, Meena deals with performance anxiety, Johnny stands up to an authority figure, and a selfish person almost ruins the show.
I mean, they didn't really recruit nana, they just proved to her that the theater isn't dead
I mean, say I have bad taste, but I loved the second one and think it should have been the first one instead of having 2 movies. You don't need to watch the first one to enjoy the second one, but the second one did everything better. For an illumination film, it was fun to watch.

Buster Moon didn't lie, he said he'd get Clay Calloway and thats what he did, Meena was the one with performance anxiety in Sing 1
Also fun fact, the song playing after the show was done was an original made by the Lion, Bono and his band U2, "Your song saved my life" was an original and was made specifically for the movie Sing 2.
It summed up my experience with the Sing franchise as it literally saved my life haha, and in a way, to music itself, honestly can't tell you how many times music saved my life and hoping, once i get my life on track, that I can create something that can save other lives too, so here's to me wanting to be better haha
Also I think Bono can't really sing anymore sadly. I'm pretty sure the singing was done by someone else, why it sounds weird.
@JackalopeBunny nah, the singing was done by him. according to him the reason Clay's singing voice is so different compared to his speaking voice is because he hadn't sung in 15+ years, so he wanted to reflect that on the character
I remember on tik tok when this first came out everyone was talking about how Meena was a pick me for having stage fright and anxiety. They mad they ain’t poppin off like her. 😌

I didn't like how in the first movie, she was scared to perform on stage and her family wouldn't listen and help her through it, they just pressured her
lol I remember the Meena hate, just like the ice age baby hate. They be hating on poor Meena for no reason. Like what did my poor girl do?
Tbh it was mostly just when she sings Happy Birthday in a super unnecessary dramatic way

I actually really enjoyed Sing 2 and find it better than the first movie. I just really hope if they make a third somehow, it is even better.

This film is a guilty pleasure for me, and as someone who has watched it about 20 times, I wish they made original music for this film. The first film at least had ONE original, and it was the best song in the movie. Scarlett Johansson has a wonderful singing voice, she made the first movie special. Other than that, the characters in this movie are just really likable? Rosita is one of my favorites from the first. I love seeing her get another arc that isn't just "being a mom." The new cast is strong, Halsey as Porsha was everything, Bono lion is what made me interested in the first place, and I like his whole backstory of him losing his wife. The subtle details like the photos of her in a wheelchair and then cutting to show it still in his closet. It's such a strong visual way to signal him not letting go and very mature for an illumination film. Yes, this is meant for kids, but the people who worked on it really cared about this film, they even took criticism from the first film, adding more animal varieties, because that was a huge complaint from the first.
I really liked the first and is something I like to listen to when my siblings are watching it. I wasn’t a fan of the second but I think it is because the first opening scene was just way too much all at once.

Ngl I think this is one of my favorite movies from Illumination. Putting aside the writing and overuse of pop songs, I found it enjoyable regardless bc it at least has a lot of heart, fun characters and good execution. Was really fun to see Dazz react to it lol
Exactly, the movie has heart and charm, and Daz reaction was pretty funny.
I loved Sing 2, And Porsha instantly became one of my all time favorite characters! her singing voice was absolutely phenomenal and Halsey did such an outstanding job voicing the character!
Porsha definitely had potential, and with a singing voice like hers she'll have a promising future career in musical theatre.
So true. I mean that's one of the reasons why Porsha left Redshore City with Buster and the gang, Because not only would Porsha no longer be under her father's thumb but she would be safe to pursue a new life with her found family.
I love this movie, especially the song choices this time around. What I like the most about it is how practical they make the performances look. It's an animated movie, they could make the characters fly randomly and we wouldn't question it. But the lack of cartoon logic in this movie is actually really cool. The stage props look like they were painted by hand, the backdrops are actual backdrops, it feels like a real stage play. Also the best scene in my opinion was Meena's song where she pretended her crush was singing with her. That was such an artistically cool subversion. It's not for everyone, but I personally love this movie more than the first Sing.
Sing 1 and 2 are two of my favorite Illumination films. They have heart in their stories and pick the right type of songs. Just hope, for Sing 3, two particular characters from Sing 1 come back.
Glad other people agree! The movies have such nice background details, like Clay holding on to his wifes wheelchair still, or the fact that they added more animal variety because everyone complained there was only 10 species in the first movie.
In terms Illumination production, i'll go as far out to say that these two Sing movies are way better than the Despicable Me ones. Hearing Reese Witherspoon doing a cover of some popular songs sold me already 😅
I agree with you. I’d say the first Sing movie is better than the Despicable Me movies except for Despicable Me 2 but Sing 2 is better than the other Despicable Me movies overall.
Id argue no illumination film is gonna beat despicable me 1, that film is basically the reaosn Illumination is super popular now, and it (and despicable me 2) are really their best works tbh. Everything else is fairly bland, at least for me (except the super mario bros. movie, that one is kinda suppose to be bland, since its turning the usual mario formula into a film).
admittedly their animation is pretty good imo, the stories are whats bland

@@fusionwing4208Animation and other production qualities are their specialties, but they are missing with the writing and scripting, really...those two are the ONLY two things left that they seem to not dwell deep enough in.
If romance isnt inter species then why is the bull paired with the elephant in the musical? I imagine it would be a contreversial opinion within universe.
Boys would play the roles of girls in plays since like forever (or maybe it was vice versa?), which until more recent times, in real life would be controversial if a boy romanced a boy, but nobody cared in a bad sense towards the plays sunce it was just acting
@@wild180 Yes but they are animals, if you were to go to a zoo, you wouldnt think a normal giraffe is attractive, even if they act like humans. Although the play thing ia true.

I love this movie and find it to be one of Illumination’s strongest. I love that it’s left ambiguous as to what happened to Mike, though I’m saddened at the absence of Eddie (I’m happy Nana is back and fills his role, and I have a feeling Eddie ended up getting his life together since he and the short Eddie’s Life Coach hints at this).
My favorite of the returning cast is Johnny (and I quite enjoy the arc he ends up going through with the help of Nooshy) and my favorite of the new cast is Porsha, going from a pampered princess yearning for her father’s attention to being humbled (wish there was a scene of her talking with Miss Crawly though…)
This seems like a fun series to do for a while! It’ll be hard to run out of movies for this, but it would be great if you somehow do. Good luck Dazz!

A long form content with some heavy editing, a funny guy with good jokes, keep up the great work, so far Im liking the format
Also in regards to the Movie Sing, its just a comfort movie for me, objectively, yeah, its not the best, but subjective one of my all time faves, can't tell you how many times I've watched the movie, how the songs and animation just inspires me and how the wonderful ensemble of cast continue to surprise me, the Sing Franchise for me is just overall a delight, hoping for more Sing, Sing 3 is said to be on progress, it being mentioned last year in April, so lets hope Sing 3 will be released on earliest 2025 and the latest around late 2026, probably on Dec if they follow their track record of the Sing Release date, anyways, Sing is just my Favorite Movie overall, with the core message I've been able to take away from is "Dream big Dreams" a great movie for kids to inspire them to be who they want to be, I found Sing when I was lost in life, and it somehow brought back my passion for life, Sing will continue to be somewhat of a guide for me, always there to inspire me with its sound track and overall message, wish I could say more about this Movie but this is all what my dumb brain could say haha, 10/10 will watch again

I like this new series already. I like seeing you actually laugh at some of the jokes. But I would prefer if you added some more critisms at times than jokes
I remember watching this movie in the theater with my family on New year’s before 2022. It’s honestly one of my best memories of new year’s as the movie put me and my family in good spirits 🥰! I will always reminisce on that day tbh, and the movie actually didn’t suck it was pretty good.
My favorite song from the movie was probably Johnny’s performance. I haven’t heard “sky full of stars” in YEARS at that point so hearing it again was nostalgia for me!

The songs for the show were original in universe. It's just the last one that was Callaway's, the crowd sang it because it's a classice IN UNIVERSE. I really liked that touch tbh

I would sell my left arm for you to watch and review Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs. The marketing did it so dirty and I'll draw as much attention to it as I possibly can. Is it an incredible movie? Not really, but it deserved better than what it got.

Another jukebox musical, but with Elton john as an executive producer. Hes only ever been executive producer on 12 projects, 2 if which are Gnomeo and Juliet, and it's sequel Sherlock gnomes. If you haven't seen it, definitely worth putting on the list

I’ll be honest. I love jukebox musicals. I can see it being negative if the song doesn’t fit, or if there is a song placed in a movie that isn’t a jukebox musical. But like the whole point of this movie is centered around real songs. I can understand that this isn’t a great movie. But I really enjoy these.

Crystal (wolf) kinda reminded me of Trump what with a tower named after him and "having shows".
I did prefer this movie to the first, although Moon never faces consequences for his lies. Yes, he's almost killed twice, but in the end, he succeeds, which isn't the best message.
Mike (mouse) seemingly is dead unless they bring him back for the 3rd move. Eddie (sheep) wasn't in it either, which is somewhat sad. They could have added him in the end with Nana when they watch from the balcony in that massive theatre.

Best thing it did was include a cover of The Struts, absolutely incredible band that i highly recommend everyone listen too. The lead singer has commonly been referred too as a modern day Freddy Mercury because of the way he sings (and looks somewhat lol)

@Valigarmanda i kind of like those characters ngl, but only when they are genuinely nice. she came around at the end, which made me like her even more. like, she didnt care about taking rositas role, she just wanted her dads attention. at the end, she got what she needed from the other cast members, and she fell into the perfect role for her. glad they redeemed her, although they made her dad look so evil
