    If you want to drill the holes for the backside of a Tele, please drill the holes for the back first. Use the distance from the top and apply to the back. Stick your bridge with double-sticky tape to the back. Drill with a bit that fits tjust hrough the holes . Remove bridge and use the required diameter to finish the exact diameter. Drill only about three quarters of the bodies thickness. Finish the job by drilling through the holes of the bridge from the top. This way the holes on the back are perfectly alligned. My 2 cents. Greetings.

      Another 2 cents worth Any Holes being drilled should first have a pilot hole drilled with a small drill after using a sharp punch to mark the center to keep any drill from wandering off center this is a very important step when doing any hole drilling. Also if you want more precision buy a simple portable drill stand that holds your hand drill very inexpensive and they do work

    This is exactly the video I’ve been searching for ! I have a DIY Strat body but some of the edges are quite rough - could I fill these with a regular wood putty filler and then sand that down before applying the base coats or would you recommend filling with some sort of two part resin?

    • @RiffsRigs
      @RiffsRigs  8 месяцев назад

      Soo... if you are looking for a perfect finishing without woodgrain at all, yes you can fill with wood filler. Just pay attention if it will not react with your next coats, so it can create strange stains on your paint or even bubbles! StewMac channel did a series on how to make PERFECT industrial finishing only with spray cans. For the grain filling they use epoxy glue, spread with a rubber pad and later sanded down really well. Maybe it could help safer if you will use nitrocellulose lacquer! Hope it helps... let me know here and we keep talking! 🔥🎛️

    If the uneven holes on the back trigger your OCD you could use the dremel to route space for a one piece string ferrule block

      That sounds a good advice!!! I will look for that!

    Hey man, I’ve been following your journey with this guitar and wanted to confirm one thing - HB claims the guitar comes with a layer of grain filler straight out the box. After watching your video I’m not too sure about that - the grain is still visible. Would you suggest giving it an extra grain filler layer if I wanted to achieve a mirror finish? Cheers and waiting for more video! Ciao.

    • @RiffsRigs
      @RiffsRigs  8 месяцев назад

      Hey mate! Thanks a lot for your question! You are totally right! They claim about the grain filler, but actually it is only a oil finished layer. The grain is still visible, so you would need to really apply the grain filler. For the sake of the certainty, I suggest you to sand also this layer, as your grain filler can react badly with the finishing coat they have applied. Another possibility is to apply one layer of epoxy on top. StewMac channel teaches this method and sounds pretty cool, but I never tried it. It is on the bucket list for the next build! Let me know if it helped you somehow! 🔥🎛️

      @@RiffsRigs Lord, have mercy, I just wrote a long response and I mistakingly closed the window. Long story short - yeah, I've seen the StewMac video you mention. Epoxy always gives me anxiety regarding the proportions of medium and hardener. There are other options too, like shellac or pumice based, still haven't made up my mind. I'm starting my project in April - on my birthday. Keep your fingers crossed for me! ;)

      @@xkukubaxfor sure I will! I am planning on starting a new kit after this one, but still didn't decided if I will do stain finishing. If I will lack with spray cans, I will try the grain filler! Let's find out how it gets! 💪🏻🔥

    Do I HAVE to sand before spraying primer then colour onto my diy kit out the box? It seems pretty smooth already? What would be the outcome if I didn’t? I’ve looked everywhere for answers online .
    Thank you.
    It’s a SG Style guitar and I want to make it bright orange matte

    • @RiffsRigs
      @RiffsRigs  7 месяцев назад

      Hey buddy!! Let me share some thoughts with you. The Harley Benton kits come already with a base of transparent primer, but honestly speaking, if you are looking to get a shine-mirror finishing (even with matte lacquer over it), you will need to sand it down and apply a coat of grain filler. You can check the 4th episode of my guitar build here and you will see that my TL-T kit has appearing still the wood grain. If you don't mind having the wood grain appearing (like some Gibson SGs have), I suggest you to do a manual inspection just to find some possible rough edges or places where the CNC left some poor finishing and sand it localized in there. I hope it will help! Let me know if you will have further questions mate! 🎛️🔥
