Great Langdale Campsite Review

- My first camping trip of 2022, in the first week of January, took me to the English Lake District.
The weather forecast was very mixed, with sun, wind, rain, sleet and snow all to come over four days!
Staying at the National Trust Great Langdale Campsite, I arrived in the sun and left in the freezing sleet, however I had a brilliant time with three bars within walking distance.
The location is in an excellent motorcycling part of the world with magnificent views and superb riding roads, however on this occasion there was freezing sleet and snow with mountain roads closed due to icy conditions.
The campsite is a reasonably large site, comprising tent camping, camper van/caravan hard standing areas, family specific areas, group areas and small wooden camping pods.
The facilities are excellent with high quality fittings, including heated shower floors and heated drying rooms.
The National Trust staff were very nice and helpful, with bacon buns and coffee available in the morning.
The nearest shop, other than the well stocked campsite shop, is about 3 miles and 8 minutes drive away in Chapel Stile.
The road to the site is directly off a country road and then within the site is hard compacted tarmac and gravel.
On this trip I’m using a Naturehike Opalus 3 tunnel tent and a review of this can be found here:

Well in mate
I was thinking of heading that way Sunday as I want to do some photography that way, weather ain’t looking so good tho so will probably go to north Norfolk instead. Thanks for the review tho, hopefully go there in the new year 👍
Yep, good call as weather forecast is a bit crappy…my thoughts as well…hopefully cold dry and sunny 😎
Great first video of the year , looks worthy of a few days in the spring .
Cheers Andrew
Yes, a worthy start to the year Niall..happy new year 👍🏻
Simply wow, what a great location.
Good work Andrew as always 👌
Thanks Alastair, it’s appreciated! yes wonderful views in every direction and well set up site 👍🏻

Cheers John, camping or B&B…it’s all good, the old dungeon ghyll is some bar isn’t it and I do like the Langdale Valleys 👍🏻
Just camped 4 nights here. In the car not on the bike unfortunately due to bringing the dog. What a lovely campsite indeed and the people there were all very helpful and welcoming people. Some of the hikes and views in the area are stunning. I have to say I will definitely be stopping again. Although, maybe next time I’ll pick some better weather and not go during a storm 😂
Great location, been going up the valley for years.. love each and every season, including winter 🥶 😂
You make great videos. I e just watched loads of yours after watching the cloud up2 review. I'm an Englishman living in Norway, so if you're ever over this way touring 👍
Hi Matt, thanks for that, it’s appreciated. Most certainly will travel to Norway at some point and it must be amazing for you living there…keep safe, regards Andrew
Thank you nice viedo.
Great tent, just the job for weather like this 👍🏻
hey buddy, 1st time iv watched one of your videos, was hoping to start bike camping myself, i live in n.ireland but have a brother in norfolk, i look forward to watching more. subscribed
Thanks Marty, appreciate that…nothing better than biking and camping, plenty of opportunity between you and your brother in Norfolk 👍🏻
@@thecampingbiker791 can i ask....do you use electric hook up? or how do you charge your phone or tech equipment?
@@marty9059 I don’t have hook up but use a combination of bike mounted usb sockets (both for on the go charging and when parked up) and a power bank…usually at cafe pub or sometimes campsites I charge everything up.. works well for me 👍🏻
Wow, the view of the snow capped mountains Andrew, was 👌I think that was the best camp site you've reviewed in terms of quality wash facilities & stunning scenery 👍do you ride around the area much in the daytime? Be nice to see some road footage one day, just saying🤣😜good vid buddy🙂
Yep, got to say it’s a good one Dwayne and that area is heaven for riding! The roads were icy and some of the mountain roads were closed so riding was limited this time, although I do have some footage I’m trying to upload and edit with a problematic tech issue but will post if I solve the problem, and I’ll be doing much more travel videos this year 👍🏻
@@thecampingbiker791 Excellent 😉
He Andrew, nice view but a little too cold for camping, at least for me 😀 I am wondering how do you carry this big tent?
It’s probably too cold for my old bones as well 😂 Ah, the tent…it’s like Doctor Who’s ‘tardis’ bigger on the inside than the outside….that’s to say it packs reasonably small and no bigger than the MSR Elixir2 😆 For the travel pack size and quick erecting I really like the Cloud Up2 tent as it packs very small and goes up and down with ease, but the MSR is a nicer tent to live in! I got the Opalus3 for doing little trips where I’m stopping same place and forecast not so good as the extra space is useful as this particular trip demonstrated. Happy days whichever tent though and roll on Spring 😆
@@thecampingbiker791 I use Kelty Dirty Motel 2. I am very happy with it. Last night of my long trip last summer I was hit by very heavy rain. I can say that my tent inside was dry as desert.
Good to see @TheCampingBiker is back. Still not sure who that other bloke was. LOL.
WOW you got a bargain for that Million dollar view. See the new mic is taking some getting used to. Sounds good though.
Ha, yes I’m back 😆 The views are superb up the valley and highlighted nicely with the snow…with the new mic I definitely need to stop being shouty 😂 👍🏻
