Stone Tower Temple Theme (Zelda, Majora's Mask) - Violin Cover | Katy Adelson

- Hi Everyone! I hope you have been well. Here is a cover to the Stone Temple Theme song (composed by Koji Kondo) in the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask video game. I remember being mesmerized by this song the first time I heard it, and tried to figure out how to play it on the violin. I wanted to just listen to the music rather than actually figure out the temple puzzle - pressing pause helped me listen while pausing the clock.
I actually flipped the music upside down for this one (the music doesn't do that in the game, but the temple flips upside down). I wrote out the notes assuming they were flipped upside down on the staff, but kept the original timing. Doing so pushed the new melody into a different key. I thought the key change was too large of a leap, so I transcribed it to a key similar to the original melody. I think it results in sounding like an upside-down version of the original melody. I'm not sure what others are going to think about it, but I liked it. I think it kind of fits with the vibe of the temple, even though it's not part of the original song.
I experimented a bit with a blue screen with this video. I'm not sure how I feel about how it turned out, but it was an experiment. I made a whole take playing the instruments with the ruins upside down, but the blue screen didn't really key out very well with the constant breeze moving the screen. The screen was changing too many different colors of blue with the wind to really make it key out decently... I think I need to bring better lights and clamps next time.
I'm not really sure what building this was recorded at. It is located in Black Hawk, Colorado, between Miner St. and Lawrence St., where the town has a market in the summer. I asked the market Facebook Page owner if I could record a video there, and they said it should be fine, but I honestly don't know if they were the person to ask since I could find no other information about this building online. Black Hawk had seen quite a few bad fires, and floods in the past, and since this building is right on the river, I'd guess it's fate likely had something to do with the big flood that happened, but I honestly have no idea. It's a neat looking place, though!
I signed up for an online music production course today. I'm super curious how it's going to help me with my music. I feel like I've kind of fallen into a trap of analysis-paralysis when I make music, and I suspect it's because I really don't have a good foundation beyond playing violin. Up until now, I've been winging music production on my own, with an occasional google out of frustration. I've stumbled through figuring out the basics with trial and error, so I'm hoping I can really dial into figuring out how to pull the sounds I have in my head into reality. I usually start off with a really interesting idea in my head, but bringing it into the real world has been a huge struggle.I think a lot of artists can relate to that to some extent. I keep reminding myself that the listener never knew what I was originally thinking, so it kind of doesn't matter that I didn't hit the mark with my original idea, even though it's frustrating. I'm hopeful that having a better grasp of the fundamentals will help me create my ideas more easily. I guess I'll find out!
It's a 28 week-long course, but I'm hoping I'll be able to take things as I learn them, and start to apply them immediately. I suppose this is the last video I'll make while being self-taught with all of this music production stuff, so we'll see how it goes! Hopefully my music will improve!
Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a good rest of the week! =)
~ Katy

This is amazing. And the way you made the video really supports the vibe of the song.
The inverted melody is SO COOL, sounds completely different from the OG music but at the same time so familiar to it. Will definitely be adding this vid to my "gaming music for work" playlist!
The video was so much fun to watch that I didn't get to read the description until I was done!
You can't exist without pleasure, even for a second, and it's hard to have sorrow for a long time. Such is existence
Hi Katy, The old ruins really set the mood for that tune, quite spooky sound. Lovely scenery. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Colin 👍
Seeing your videos, even those less ambitious than this one, videoly speaking, it's hard to believe that you don't have a large crew.
This Metal-Head respects your music. Keep it going Katy
Wow fantastic I , so glad you're back we were worried about you ; we care & support you
Alright! Another Katy video!
Zelda was such a big part of my childhood and I love your covers of its music!
This is the best dungeon song ever 👌👍
Very nice Katy. Your hard work has turned out so many wonderful videos and beautiful music. Thank you so much for sharing with us. I've been trying for some time to learn the hammered dulcimer but I've let work and other things get in the way. You're music has inspired me to put my focus where it belongs.
Hi my friend. This was enjoyable. Have a lovely weekend….
I've probably been following you for over a decade and I'm still looking forward to every new release. I love all your covers

One of the best covers of this song!
Thank you for the pleasant toon, It’s good to hear you play again.
This is sick, deserves more likes
Hey Katy. Your words really encourage me! I find your music stunningly beautiful and to read about the challenges you face, it inspires me as a beginner (one year going strong on the penny whistle lol) to know that I'm not alone in getting the music out of my head and as beautiful as I wish it could be... And maybe I'm not doing everything wrong!
Sounds brilliant and I love all the layering. I would send you some or my djimbe.
Wow!! Love your way of bringing tunes to life
Loved it! I'm glad to see you back!
Love your creativity! This is just super!
Well done !that was super cool 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Beautiful music. Thanks for sharing the technical information.
I love your music! Amazing how all fits together! Gratulation!
I love how this video has nothing Zelda related except for the music and those „inverted“ shots. Great cover and video
your production skills are amazing
What a great and unexpected video to see this morning
Prayers and good luck with your music course.
This is so awesome
Katy, This is another amazing video! its unbelievable to know that you have achieved such great quality all by yourself with no training. You must have put so many hours into this beautiful masterpiece. you are right when you say the audience has no idea about the direction you meant to take. I had no idea that the color did not turn out the way you meant it to because I did not see it in through your eyes. to me the lenses caught it perfectly for what you were doing. I look forward to each video you release they are all amazing to me and do not need any improvement. thank you so much for sharing your talent and your wonderful personality!

Thank you so much, Dave!🎻
Fascinating stuff!!! Thanks for this and sharing the additional information. Please let us know about your progress in this endeavor. 🙂🙂🙂😎😎😎🌞
Thank you! I’m curious if my music will start to sound better while/after taking the class! I guess we’ll be able to tell a little based on the previous stuff I’ve posted.
@@KatyAdelson The one area (amongst others) that I need a lot more training in is time signatures. I come from a Rock N’ Roll Bass/Guitar background. 😎
So talented! So where's the percussionist? Really lovely! Pretty little smile too🥰👍💕
Thank you so much! I did the percussion parts on my electric piano in my apartment… I don’t own any nice-sounding drums, so I have to use a sample library.
@@KatyAdelson Very nice! You are so adorable just being your little self. I think you could video that too....and we would appreciate reality. We get so much fake drama in this world. Real is so refreshing. May Jehovah bless you into all your happiness Kady, and may his son Jesus rescue us all from the wicked drama of this insane world. I love your work.💕🎶
Great video Katy!!!! If I may ask, what whistles are you playing?
Cool)) Thank you!
Nice!
Both my favorite fiddler and my favorite video game are together yayy. I always look forward to your videos and here it is, a great video as always. I'd loved to see this version implemented in the game. And I wish you make a live stream again, is it possible in the near future?
I’ve been thinking about trying a live stream again sometime soonish. I need to practice more though… last time, I just turned on the camera without really preparing for anything lol 😂
Fabulous! Did you use a different violin for the recording than you usually do? You found a lovely clean darkness in the tone that suited perfectly. Excellent! ;))
All your self-taught video productions have been wonderful, so more technical training will only make them all the more impressive. Having never played the game, I have no context for the changes, but it's a great tune regardless.
❤🩹 love it

I love Cooley’s! I’ll try to think of a good set to play it with. I have several other projects in the pipeline currently, but I’ll start working on a Cooley one too!
