My husband JUST bought me the Lava Me 4 Spruce. I play the ukulele but I’ve never played the guitar before. I’m super excited but a little overwhelmed.
What a lovely gift! If you already know how to play Uke, it's a great head start :) I'd just say start by learning all the basic chord shapes and then the rest will come easy for you! With the Lava guitar you can just for the time being focus on using the practice app to help and use play around with the effects for some ambience when performing :)
I just bought this guitar from guitar center, i like the sound of the spruce a lot, but I couldn’t justify spending $300 more when I barely know how to play, I plan on getting a seagull s6 original guitar in the future, but for now, I just really need this to help me learn apps like yousician, gibson app, and fender play, all help you learn, but they don’t have as many features to help you learn as hilava 2.0 does. Those apps also have a monthly or yearly subscription while this doesn’t and everything is offered for free to use. I have pretty bad adhd so it’s hard for me to stick to practicing, especially if the subject gets me overwhelmed. The achievements, scale training, strumming, and chord transition practice, as well as ear training and single note exercises, all of those lessons will help motivate me to learn more than I would by going to paid guitar lessons or paying a subscription for an app which doesn’t offer as much, so I am really looking forward to it 🙂
Great review. My only concern is this guitar seems to be designed to be disposable. As we know with our smartphones, they become door stops within 6-8 years as software outpaces hardware. I can't see someone owning one of these guitars in ten years and still having use of all the digital features.
"As we know with our smartphones, they become door stops within 6-8 years as software outpaces hardware." This! I work in software and always try to avoid anything software related because of this reason. For phones and TV's etc sure they are unavoidable, but for a car or a guitar give me something mechanical that won't become obsolete in 5 years
How does this compare with the Blue Lava Touch which you tried a few months back? Is there any actual difference between this model and the Blue Lava Touch? - they are very different in price though
Great review. Just spent the weekend playing my dad’s lava me 4 spruce, and addicted to it! Not sure what to go for still, the low price is appealing to me
Hi! I'm really interested in purchasing a LAVA ME Play but there's 2 questions that I have and have not found any answers either on the website or on forums. 1. Is there a possibility of loading or configuring ambient pads on the guitar? I see that it have backing tracks but is there a possibility of adding to it ambient pads too? 2. Is there an EQ onboard to set mid, lows and treble for the in line sound of the guitar? If any have answers that will be helpful, AWESOME VIDEO! THANKS!
Great review; thanks! It would be great for everyone to understand what the lifecycle trend is because, in tech., things often accelerate way too fast and can sometimes leave many people unsupported in unreasonable timeframes. How are the ME1 players feeling today?
I think Lava Me Play is perfect for the beginners. Once a new learner becomes good at playing after 1-2 years then it's worth to invest in high end Electric Acoustic Guitar with Cutaway made by any renowned brand ( eg-Martin, Taylor, Yamaha etc).
I just bought the blue lava "original" and I was expecting more volume boost when the effects are active. But the volume on mine stays about the same with or without the effects. Shouldn't it get noticably louder with the boost system engaged?
This is such a cool guitar! Reminds me of my live acoustic yamaha! Definitely a cool entry for newer guitarists. While im here, i wanted to mention that your tutorials and videos have helped me so much on my music journey, helping me to get past that frustration phase! I am now going to be attending Berklee and it all started with a tutorial video i stumbled upon one day :D keep it up man, love learning new stuff!

Hi brother. I am looking forward to buy this. But I would like to ask you, to your knowledge, how long does the battery last in one complete charge? And is it technically better than others lava guitars? Please help me brother. Thanks a lot
❤Great video Dave. I really like that travel guitar. I might treat myself to that. Im not a beginner no more thanks to you but it will be great for when I go away abroad to spain and I love taking my guitar to practice. Thank you again Dave xx ❤
Thank you for you previus answer I Have the blue lava original freeboost , But I want my budget it's around 450 should I go for the lava me play or the Blu lava touch , and Who would you go for ?
Lava Me Play. All 3 are pretty much the same body. - Blue Lava Original has no HILAVA touch screen - Blue Lava Touch - HILAVA with 2G RAM. 5W8ohm speaker - Lava Me Play - HILAVA with 4G RAM. 5W4ohm speaker
Great Video ! Im in a bad Situation now. I just got the Play yesterday. And sadly i have to return it because the Line Out sounds only on the left Side :( This fact alone gives me a bad feeling about these Guitars, Quality of Components seem not very high. I watched yours and other Reviews where the Play is compared with the Spruce Version and the Spruce sounds brighter, louder and overall just a bit better. But im not sure if only the Wooden Top and the brighter Sound is worth the 300 Bucks more. My Problem now is that im not sure what to do, return it and take my Money back, replace mine for a new one and hope that it is working ok this Time or while i have to return the Play anyways, get the Spruce instead and spend the extra Money :/ I hate these kind of decisions. What do you think would be best ? Im a Beginner and im playing a little bit over 1 Year now. Greetz
Return it and get your money back, and then go buy it at guitar center, they have a replacement plan that covers any accidental damage or if the guitar isn’t working right, they replace it for you. They have a 2 year plan for $70, 3 year plan for $80, and a 5 year plan for $120. I would get one of those plans when you buy the guitar because I hear lava customer service isn’t the most reliable, so going through guitar center instead in case your screen stops working or something else happens, and they just give you a replacement, it’s a better alternative for a guitar like this. I bought the sail white play with the $80 plan for 3 years 2 days ago, and it is being shipped to the store now, and when it gets there, they can open and check it for you. Lava guitars weren’t offered at guitar center until recently, but i think this is a better idea since amazons return policy only covers 30 days while guitar center covers 45 days. I would also at least get the cheapest plan for the replacement plan because you can always extend it later, but if you want to add it after you buy the guitar, then you might have to return the guitar and buy it again just to add the plan. I think this can help solve your problem 🙂 and yeah I also think the $300 extra for the spruce top is a bit much. I’m only getting this guitar to help me learn, if I want a better sounding guitar for cheap, I would probably get a similar size taylor gs mini, or a seagull s6 original or s6 original slim. The great thing with this is the hilava2.0 software because it teaches you without a subscription like yousician, fender play, gibson app, or melodics, so you buy it once and that’s it. If I got another guitar, I would have to pay for a subscription and it wouldn’t even offer as much as the lava software does. And I also don’t have to worry about wasting time scheduling meetings and paying for lessons with a teacher 🙃
@@Top_Dawg360 Hey man, thank you very much for the Tip. Im from Germany and we have a big Store called THOMANN. Its very similar to your Guitar Center. They give you a 3 Year Warranty and they replace or repair it without any Problems. Also i can get an extra Insurance Plan here for 50 Euros aswell :) And yes thats exactly why i purchased this Guitar because of all the possibilities to practice without the needs of any Subscriptions. Its really awesome and there is no other alternative as far as i know. The Guitar is really cool indeed and today i played with a Plectrum. this way the Guitar sounds really awesome and gets pretty loud, at least loud enough :) Fingerpicking for me is a bit too low in Volume, also the Speaker isnt very loud. On highest Setting it is a bit low in my Opinion, but well, it is what it is and the Spruce will not be much louder because it uses the same Speaker and System. So yea, i hope you have alot of fun with your Play ! Greetz
While I liked the Spruce topped version which sounds much better, the Play Me is a good beginners guitar for the tech generation. Not a fan of the LAVA guitar color schemes. Dave, you make just about any guitar sound its best.
Did they change it so you could change the timing of the delay with this model? Is the delay more customizeable with the Lava Me Play versus the Lava Me 2?
Unfortunately my experience with the lava me was the constant going out of tune during playing. I returned the guitar because I spent more time tuning than playing.
Is it possible to then transfer from the guitar to the PC what you played on it? For example, while you were working with the guitar in Loops mode? Is it possible to include a recording of all your actions with the guitar?
i have a GS MINI and not sure if i like it so...does this SOUND BETTER? if not, is there a toner that i can get without an external app for the gs or my other taylor? just want a little reverb.
