Let me know which guitar you liked the best - Lava Blue or Lava me 3! Enjoy :) *Watch out for the @telegram scammers in the comments and please report them!*
I found the tone of the blue Lava much clearer on my desktop speakers than the Lava Me 3! The latter guitar sounded more "muffled", for want of a better description. However, once the effects were added, the Lava Me seemed to sustain a lot longer with an added "bloom" to the notes. Both nice guitars and very different indeed to the norm.
Hey man! Great work you do on here .I really enjoy your perspective on guitars.. thorough reviews objectively done with highlighted features links discount etc..you prefer to stuck to instruments to review and that's what draws me here to begin with..then u deliver..much appreciated bro..keep grinding 🤘🎸🎶 tone comparing is crucial component imo
Good recording job that allowed the listener to differentiate the two guitars. I agree that the Lava Me 3 produced a both fuller and clearer sound. So much so that I ordered one!
I thought the Blue Lava sounded better in the mid to high range. The Me 3 had a heavy deeper tone. As I play in open Dm, it would be the Blue Lava for me. Brilliant job on comparisons.
I did have the option for either guitar back six months ago. I warmth of the Blue Lava won me over. The low E sounds round, full and beautiful, better than most traditional guitar despite the size of the guitar. I left it in the car once and the electronic took 30 min to cool down before it will function. I would imagine that can happen to either guitar. I wish it has a cut away though.
Great video. How do you like the setup? Is the action good? I noticed the blue lava had a truss rod but the ME 3 does not.. I'm guessing to adjust the action on the ME 3 you have to do it at the bridge??? Thanks
Lol y’all crack me up. Even in 20 years and the battery dies… this guitar still sounds better than most acoustics with no features… all y’all old people are wearing me down with the same old “age of technology” argument…
I like the concept of the guitar and the video was excellent as usual Darrell. The HPL is called the Me 2 in the U.K. I think. Not sure why but they don’t put the neck dimensions or scale length on their website, strange omission and surely most guitarists would want to know before committing to buying one. What do you think?
Thank you for your reviews on the lava guitars, I am curious what your take would be on the Lava pro model…I have heard it in other videos and the sound was VERY close to a full size, upper end acoustic.
Good job, Darrell! I saw another video you did on the Blue Lava, but you didn't touch on the "playability" aspect, i.e., the neck. I'm glad you mentioned it here. I agree with your on the sounds of the guitars, I liked the carbon fiber one a bit better. Having them back-to-back like you did was a good comparison. I know you were really tickled about the Blue Lava and it's tech when you reviewed it before, I'd sure like to try it out. But overall, the carbon fiber one is just out of my price range right now. Oh, well. I do need to get a new acoustic guitar, got any recommendations? (Within my budget, that is...)
I think I prefer the sound of the Blue Lava, because it sounds like what I'd expect a regular wooden guitar to have. But I can see why the Lava 3 has such appeal; I think that if you sing in a higher register, the deeply-scooped out mids would free up that range so as not to drown out the vocals. The Blue would occupy the "expected" range of an acoustic, and will fit in exactly where you'd expect a traditional acoustic to sit in the mix. Playability, obviously, is a factor in choosing (as is your budget) one or the other; but I'd suggest that if you're going to use the native acoustic character, how it is going to "serve the song" deserves as much consideration.
I was listening through the Roku app/Denon receiver/Paradigm speakers. I preferred the sound of the Blue every time. The ME3 reminded me of my Klos travel guitar. As for electronics, I wouldn't use them much. I already have a Tonewood amp that I don't use much.
If the app screen is like a smart phone, it may not last. So how much will it cost to replace? Wouldn't you have to preemptively buy replacement screens anticipating the unit going out of production + support?
Hey Darrell love the channel and thank you for doing the demo on these things and bringing us info on new stuff and tech. In this case I don't dig these units at all - 🤨. They don't have any character and the sound will never improve with age - they give me the creeps TBH but that's just me. Traditional wood acoustic please.
They remind me of the difference between a standard wooden guitar against the ovation with the graphite back. I actually prefer the Blue Lava sound much warmer and less of that metallic tailing off when you stop playing. I have a feeling with the Me guitar it would get EQ'd back to the warmer sound anyway in a recording... in my opinion.
I can't believe so few people noticed the sound you mentioned. It sounds HORRIBLE! You can hear it all the time but most when he starts to play or finishes. I noted 6:07 as the most noticeable and called the noise a high pitched warble for lack of a professional description. And it was only the gray guitar, not the blue one. We must have bat like hearing or something? I even rewatched it with headphones to be sure it wasn't my TV.
I bought the Lava Me 3-36". When it arrived and I took it out of the Box the strings were too far off the neck to play comfortably. I had to send it back. Can this guitar be adjusted? I couldn't see a truss rod.
Thanks for highlighting these guitars! Both had nice sounds. They seemed to sound better than my low end woody! I did like the carbon fiber a bit better... richer sound. They'd be good to take camping or carolling in the winter. STILL...I think I'll stick to wood accoustic guitars though. But hey... I'm a boomer.. Who cares?!?! 😄
Those r really slick and I was completely blown away with how good they sounded..Like you the carbon fiber one sounded better to me..thanks for another gr8 review...
Could you do a video on these guitars in a plugged scenario? I'm more of an amplified performance guitar player. I would appreciate to see how these perform when tied to a dry amp (scenario #1) AND to a complete system (amplified console, scenario #2). Thanks a whole lot in advance.
Thanks for the video…always enjoy your insight brother…. Ok I have blue lava …… I thought lava me 3 sounded slightly warmer and therefore better to my ears. But the tech is the same I just want to improve my scales and strumming… for the price difference the slight warmer tone …isn’t worth it …love my sci-fi blue lava guitar ….
I chimed in on what guitar I thought was best,,, but on a another topic,,, do you know Samurai Sammy,, I see you both from Canada,,,its funny you two are the only ones I’m subscribed to ! And I’m not from Canada ,,, I live in SanDiego California! Out of most of All l the formats out there you guys are the best,,, and Steve Stien is a great teacher!
The carbon fibre sounds better, but that smooth body slides right off your lap when you play it. Much brighter tone on the 3, but as a learning tool, they're both as fun and as useful as each other - and one is nearly twice the price.
Does anyone think that 36 inches is a tad too small for an experienced guitarists that wants to take his playing to the next level? I am going to be spending many hours a day sitting outside and working on my scales. modes, arpegios, classical. blues, metal etc. Just wondering if practicing on the 38 inch size would be a better guitar for an advanced player? I would love to hear from Darrel or anyone who owns these guitars. Thanks!!
Maybe you can make a video explaining carbon fiber(cf) guitars. What makes some more expensive than others. Are there levels to carbon fiber quality or is the price difference all in the electronics.
I too liked the cheaper Lava Blue better- sounds more like a "normal" acoustic. The Lava me 3 is more resonant, but seems to me to be a little too much so , so it almost sounds like a pre-reverb ("preverb?) effect (did I just invent a new word ha)? Darrell I'm shopping for a guitar and I can't stop watching your great videos!
I am thoroughly convinced that Darrell can play anything and make it sound good. I however, tend to shy away from things that have cell phone style batteries. They just don't have the lifespan to make it worth it for me. I will hold off for a few years to see how they hold up.
The blue lava touch and lava me touch firmware is a little different. Blue lava touch has 2GB ram and 16 GB rom. Lava Me 3 has 4 GB ram and 32 GB rom. So practically, the lava me 3 will start up and run slightly quicker than the blue lava touch.
Thanks for the comparison I preferred the Me 3 too. One question: after mentioning the truss rod cover on the HPL, there doesn’t appear to be truss rod access on the Lava?
I feel the Blue Lava is louder. The carbon fiber sounded softer. Why don't they both have truss rods? (Many great vintage guitars didn't have a truss rod adjustment, however)
Humidity is big question for me, I know it was already said that HPL is more resistant to humidity, but does anyone know how resistant? I live in Florida and I absolutely love playing outside, and I kind of want to start playing at the beach. But the humidity aspect makes me paranoid. Yes, I know playing on the beach makes me "that guy", but it's just so relaxing and I want to keep doing it but I'm afraid that it's not a good idea
2 points apparently the battery in the blue is 5000mah and the me 3 is 8000mah also you did not state what size it was as there is apparently 2 sizes I did agree with your findings but would the size of the guitars make a difference I assume it would I like the tech and think it would be great for learning without a tutor what is your opinion thanks Trevor
I wonder how long it will be until the smart tech becomes superseded by the next gen model (which doesn't happen with a regular hi-end guitar). Will the touch screen be upgradable, probably not?? So your expensive guitar could be 'old hat' pretty quick???
Ya,,, what a difference in the sounds of the more expensive guitar,,, the lava me 3 so much richer sound! But they both sounded good! And I would probably start out with the cheaper one! Only because not a fan of the slot hole! But think the screen is cool!
Nice video once again. I'm not sure I like this kind of technology but maybe I'm just being a Luddite. That said I thought the Lava Me 3 sound was light years ahead of the Blue Lava.

I actually liked the sound of the cheaper one better....
How do we know the difference between you and the scammer? Because I received a telegram message from you the other day
Just almost fell for it! Whew! Thanks for the heads up
@@warhorse6127 pretty sure Darrell isn't on Telegram, so any messages you receive are not actually him
Me3 sounds amazing and the rounded edges look ergonomic
I found the tone of the blue Lava much clearer on my desktop speakers than the Lava Me 3! The latter guitar sounded more "muffled", for want of a better description. However, once the effects were added, the Lava Me seemed to sustain a lot longer with an added "bloom" to the notes. Both nice guitars and very different indeed to the norm.
I found the same. Lower end Blue Lava sounded better and more realistic.
I preferred the Blue Lava sound but it was through the laptop speaker. I wonder how the action out of the box?
@@jeraldvickery4166horrible straight out of the box, had to get a pro set up on it but plays lovely now👌
Try the spruce version
Man, I really dug the ambience on the Big Ben effect. That really rounded out that beautiful chord progression. Great playing man!
Carbon Fiber has a really great tone!

Thank you so much for posting this. Your microphone work is perfect. Crystal clear!
Love that cutting edge technology and I really wanted to like the pillowy one ... have to say I preferred the Blue.
I'd love to try them both...
Definitely prefer the Lava Me 3. But the blue lava sounds good too!
Good recording job that allowed the listener to differentiate the two guitars. I agree that the Lava Me 3 produced a both fuller and clearer sound. So much so that I ordered one!
Lava Me 3 please. Always want to see the latest in guitar evolution, & you never disappoint 👍
I thought the Blue Lava sounded better in the mid to high range. The Me 3 had a heavy deeper tone. As I play in open Dm, it would be the Blue Lava for me. Brilliant job on comparisons.
great demo, thank you for taking the time. Looking for a Smart Guitar can be so confusing. Leaning toward the ME 3
I want this in my living room..wake up coffee pick up guitar and record ideas just like that. Love it

Alvarez Masterworks Elite, or a Cort Gold Series.

I agree, and I liked the jangle potential of the cheaper Lava guitar.
I agree with you 100%
thanks for the video..im waiting for mines too
I love the color of the blue lava but I like the sound of the me 3 better. Thanks for the video!
im curious to see if lava will provide updated tech that you can swap out in the future
Is the touch screen waterproof? Me 3 was really nice sounding on really nice speakers.
I was listening through the Roku app/Denon receiver/Paradigm speakers. I preferred the sound of the Blue every time. The ME3 reminded me of my Klos travel guitar. As for electronics, I wouldn't use them much. I already have a Tonewood amp that I don't use much.

how does the sound improve with age on a normal acoustic?
I think I preferred the Blue.. I'd really like to hear them played together. I think they would compliment each other nicely. 🤔
Hey Darrell! New subscriber here. Do these effects work when plugged into a PA? As in do these effects carry on over into the PA itself?
Same question
After I heard the comparison between Blue and 3, I just thought Blue’s spud is better than 3’s and I decide to buy Blue Lava today😊
Do either of these have an output jack? Can it be plugged into a mixer?
They remind me of the difference between a standard wooden guitar against the ovation with the graphite back. I actually prefer the Blue Lava sound much warmer and less of that metallic tailing off when you stop playing. So, in addition to the material, the only other difference is the charging dock present on the Me3, which is missing on the Blue Lava?
Were they both 36 or 38 inch? Awesome review! Thank you. (I'm assuming 36)
I'm looking to start playing guitar and I have to say I like the way these ones look and both sound nice. Don't think I'll use the effects though
That one song sounds like Delerious' I Could Sing of Your Love Forever. These guitars are very nice.
How do you think the Enya Nex G competes against lava’s range?
Could you do a video on these guitars in a plugged scenario? I'm more of an amplified performance guitar player. I would appreciate to see how these perform when tied to a dry amp (scenario #1) AND to a complete system (amplified console, scenario #2). Thanks a whole lot in advance.

Is it possible to connect to amp or effector?
And also for metal music?
Thanks for the video…always enjoy your insight brother….

If you wanna check out some superstrats that feature similar materials (carbon fiber), I'm pretty sure that you're gonna love Aristides Guitars
I saw that the warranty is 1 year and if the digital display fails, what do we do after the warranty?
hello, is ther a comparing between blue lava (me-3) and the hyvibe from LAG? thanks to react.
Great review. Very curious on how loud these guitars are compared to a decent wood guitar.

Thanks for review.
Im sure you added « three « at 3:05 after editing the video lol
I went to the web site and the strings were out of stock. Can you use other brand nylon strings?

I prefer the blue lava for the design but the sound of lava me 3 is better,, idk for technology of the touchscreen quality, are they same or how?
I've seen several videos and no one has mentioned the neck and fingerboard shape and playability. What does it compare to?
Because it's cheap hpl
Could you plug either of these into an amp, an interface, or a helix or anything?
I want the acoustic version of this guitar with no electronics but can’t find it anywhere
Is there a difference in sound with the Lave me 3 size 36" vs the 38"
I too liked the cheaper Lava Blue better- sounds more like a "normal" acoustic. Big difference wow , the carbon Fibre one just had alot more depth
I don't know what the prices are in North America, but in Australia for the 25% price difference I would go for the carbon fiber, no contest.
Darrell you have the b st channel for showing new and cool gear, watched most of your vids, you should do a weekly podcast
Hate spellcheck best….. lol
I am thoroughly convinced that Darrell can play anything and make it sound good. I however, tend to shy away from things that have cell phone style batteries. They just don't have the lifespan to make it worth it for me. I will hold off for a few years to see how they hold up.
Scale, radius, fret board material, fret size, nut material?
Lava me 3 sounds pretty gorgeous.
Between the Lava Me 3 and the Lava Me 2, which one is better?
The blue lava touch and lava me touch firmware is a little different.
Blue lava touch has 2GB ram and 16 GB rom.
Lava Me 3 has 4 GB ram and 32 GB rom.
So practically, the lava me 3 will start up and run slightly quicker than the blue lava touch.
2 questions: 1) What's the price of the Lava ME 3? 2) Do they make a 12-string version?
Thanks for the comparison I preferred the Me 3 too. One question: after mentioning the truss rod cover on the HPL, there doesn’t appear to be truss rod access on the Lava?
Many carbon fibre necks don't include truss rods because the carbon fibre won't move from weather changes and humidity .
What is the high tech going to be like in 5 or so years time.
I feel the Blue Lava is louder. The carbon fiber sounded softer. Why don't they both have truss rods? (Many great vintage guitars didn't have a truss rod adjustment, however)
hello Darrell. the Lava3 has a much more rich and full tone. sounds great.
Humidity is big question for me, I know it was already said that HPL is more resistant to humidity, but does anyone know how resistant? Is there a version with nylon strings?
Did anyone else pick up the buzz on the me3. It really sticks out with the last effect. I am wearing earbuds so...
I like the tuned one more !
What happens when the battery gets screwed?
Sorry, Casio to Apple guitars! Can you phone with them?
2 points apparently the battery in the blue is 5000mah and the me 3 is 8000mah also you did not state what size it was as there is apparently 2 sizes I did agree with your findings but would the size of the guitars make a difference I assume it would I like the tech and think it would be great for learning without a tutor what is your opinion thanks Trevor
Does Lava make a nylon guitar?
wow amazing
I wonder how long it will be until the smart tech becomes superseded by the next gen model (which doesn't happen with a regular hi-end guitar).
Will the touch screen be upgradable, probably not?? So your expensive guitar could be 'old hat' pretty quick???
Did you have play unplug ?
5:09 what song is it ? So pretty.
The Lava Me 3 has a richer/deeper sound but slightly more metallic. The Blue Lava sounded more organic.
The lava me 3 definitely was the winner for me. It had a real nice resonance and a lower, kinda darker tone.
Ya,,, what a difference in the sounds of the more expensive guitar,,, the lava me 3 so much richer sound! But they both sounded good! And I would probably start out with the cheaper one! Only because not a fan of the slot hole! But think the screen is cool!
From the demo, for me the carbon fibre sounded too deep and not as bright as the htdp
I wonder what happens when the battery does not re-charge anymore, can you replace the re-chargeable battery?
yes but you'd better have it replaced by a specialist, I've read
Thanks for the vid! Just curious, did you pick up the 36 inch or the 38 inch ME 3? Haven't found any vids comparing the size difference yet!
But where is the pedal/Amp jack ?
Nice video once again.
I'm not sure I like this kind of technology but maybe I'm just being a Luddite.
That said I thought the Lava Me 3 sound was light years ahead of the Blue Lava.
