    Hi Dani, Thank you for featuring this Orchid. It is very beautiful and I love this variety very much. My late grandmother was a big lover and grower of this particular Orchid. She grew them in the husk of a coconut. She used chicken wire or fine wire to hold and stabilize all the parts from a whole coconut husk in the form of a pot and then stabilizes the roots of the Orchid inside of it. She attached a long wire loop which she used to hang the plant in an Orange tree in front of her house. Because we lived in a tropical climate where it's hot and mostly dry, she would water it at least once per day. This Orchid is very hardy and will survive with very little as long as you water it regularly. I would love to see more varieties of this Orchid. Thank you for sharing🙏🏽🕯🙏🏽

    Thank you! I bought this orchid at a nursery in Hawaii last spring. I didn't have the slightest idea of what to do with it after it stopped blooming. Thank goodness I did nothing but water it and let it hang off a shelf with plenty on light, It's growing like crazy. I was going to repot it, but now I'm going to wait 'til next spring to repot it, unless it shows signs of distress.

    Hey Danny! Is it normal for a normal big flower-shop phal to be a bit fragrant? Also it has a flower that is busy opening, however it has been 3 days and the flower is still not fully open. I live in the southern hemisphere, so it is starting to get cold here. Although it can still reach 27 degrees Celsius in the day, and the nights reach 11-17 degrees Celsius. It is also dry here, I think the average humidity at this time of the year is about 30-35%. Could the cold, or humidity be causing the flower to open slowly? Thanks!🤗

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  3 года назад +1

      Hi, yes some hybrids can have a bit of scent! About the flower, sometimes petals can get stuck, if you can gently push them a bit you might make them come appart and the flower will open. It could also be a peloric gene that shows infrequently, so the flower will not fully open. Could also be due to slight dehydration, so make sure you water the orchid in time. With complex hybrids it's hard to tell, but take it by process of elimination. Good luck! ☺️

    I hope you can help me. I've had this dendrobium for more than 2 years. It was given to me by a dear friend. When she gave it to me , it had blooms. After the blooms fell off, it has been just leaves. I have it inside in a South window. It's in a 4" pot with orchid bark. It has around 8 stalks that are more or less 10" long. The leaves look healthy but they are not shiny at all. I water it once a week and fertilize it with a 30-10-10 Orchid Fertilizer every two weeks. Don't really understand what am I doing wrong.

    Hi
    Thanks for the upload
    I wanted to ask a question
    I bought dendrobium seedlings last yr monsoon. All in good health. No new growth after repotting in charcoal plus coco. In the winter ( which is dry and cold) most plants lost leaves. In summer , same plants showed new growth again. Now after onset of monsoon , temp dropped , and growth has again stalled
    What should be the approach

    OMG!! PERFECT TIME!! I was just coming to comment on an old video nd see if u would maybe see it and reply. Bc I know u said it’s bad to repot a Dendrobium Noblie type when NOT IN active growth bc chance of killing roots. So idk if the roots r growing bc all too ones papery dead but my SMALLEST cane IS GROWNING now so can I repot it?? I got it from flower shop 2/3 mo ago and cut of 3 big keikis and they r doing well but the mother plant medium is acidic and NEEDS 2 GO! But I don’t want to kill the plant as I just cut keikis off 1 month ago ... and now leave are yellowing ( which I know is normal). BUT THAT CANE IS GROWING NOW AND JUST LIKE SPROUTING!! But this videos is telling me YES BAYBEE GO FOR IT !!

    • @dhaliaseed
      @dhaliaseed 3 года назад

      But maybe leaves yellow is NOT normal or this time of year actually..... that’s an autumn think I’m thinking. I think I maybe have shocked it when I removed keikis. :(( it was in BADDD shape when I bought it tho from shop I mainly bought it for the one .5 in cane in mom plant and the 3 keikis !!!

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  3 года назад +1

      Hi, maybe the leaves yellowing are caused by a bit of shock, but it's ok! If there is a small cane growing actively now, I think youiu can go ahead and repot, chances are it's going to make roots too soon. Be as careful as possible with the roots, remove dead ob6es and it should be ok, maybe a bit of setback if the roots are not healthy, but it will bounce back. Good luck! ☺️

    Can I ask you a question about my Dendrobium anosmum? I got it from Schwerter and potted it on the side of a pot (I made a hole and pulled the bare canes through it). The problem is that its new canes are shriveling even though I started giving it more water. The roots are totally fine, but it seems like it has not put out much roots in the nursery (I suppose it didn't need to due to the high humidity). It has not put out a new growth yet, too. The nodes at the base are intact, but there is absolutely nl change to them. Can I somehow prevent serious setback?

    • @jeanpierreviergever1417
      @jeanpierreviergever1417 3 года назад

      Den anosmum needs a bit of winter rest and doesn’t grow in winter. After flowering in spring the new growrhs should appear. Provide a lot of light in winter.

    • @loho1125
      @loho1125 3 года назад

      @@jeanpierreviergever1417 well, I know it is supposed to have a drier winter rest and to lose its leaves. It gets plenty of light. But it started to shrivel its newest cane and that is no good. Problem is that is does not have enough roots to properly hydrate in my dry environmnent. It just cannot take up as much water as it loses to the air sowehow. I know it sounds weird, but there are healthy roots (I just checked), there is water supplied regularly and still, it continues to shrivel.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  3 года назад +1

      Hi, a little side note, the relative humidity doesn't affect the number of roots, so high humidity will not make orchids root less.. actually the opposite, as more will grow without stopping. If your anosmum is not actively growing and all canes are mature, don't water it! The most should be a light run through once every 1-3 weeks. If canes shrivell excessively I doubt the roots are good. In any case, new roots will not grow now, but new growth is on the way since it's spring in Europe (which I deduct you are located in) and that will produce new roots. So only lightly offer water every week or 2 and wait it out, you can repot and check the roots when new growth starts. Some shrivelling is normal in winter, I think it will work out! Good luck! ☺️
