Thank you! I have just followed your instructions to pot my keiki. It too is about 8 months old but has a complete stem of flowers growing. I've left them on - I hope I don't lose them!
@@binkb7926 Hi - thanks for getting back. The flowers stayed for a while and then died off and I cut the spike back. The keiki still looking healthy - slow growth but the roots are spreading a new leave sprouting out now. Slow process! :)
The joke about 3 hands was funny. The humor was not lost on me! Thank you for this video, I've been watching a little keiki on my own orchid for a while and I think it's ready to be repotted but I wanted to make sure I did it right.
I really liked the video. Your speaking was clear, the video was well shot and the information was easy to understand as you pointed out what keiki and spikes were as you talked.
Thank you for a very informative video. I purchased my first orchid recently and want to make sure I look after it and get beautiful blooms year after year.
I have one with a leaf on a flower spike right now. I also have one that produced a kiki. Thank you for this video. I'll let mine grow a bit longer before I transplant it.
Thanks for the video. I have a Keiki with five leaves, six roots and a spike. The mother plant is a miniature Phalaenopsis. I think I'll let the roots grow a little longer, then repot using your advice. Thanks again 👍
Great little video. Gave me all the information that I needed plus more. I appreciate that you did not ramble on about a bunch of stuff, just stuck to the issue. Some videos are ego feeds for the instructor but this one was not and it was terrific. Many thanks!
This was so relevant. Have a Mother plantvwhich i repotted. It threw out 2 Keikis also with new Flower stems. Your Show How, simple and informative Thank You
I was not aware that Orchids could grow that way ^_^ It's the first time I have taken care of this plant and when leaves began to grow I thought it was how the branch would bloom. Thank you so much for the info.
Thanks so much for the info. My Keiki is a couple of years old and I left it on the mother plant as it puts out the most amazing blossom spike. Now two more have formed on the plant although I've never done anything to propagate from it. I'm going to try and separate the biggest one. I'm hoping it's going to survive!
Thank you so much! I realized from your video that my Keiki, is very healthy and I should have cut it off a while ago and repotted. Thanks for your help!
So interesting. I have never seen a keiki grow so strangely. Even though two of my keikis started to bloom as well, it was just one huge flower and the keiki continued to grow. 💜 Beautiful video!
I received an orchid from sister in law who had let the flowers drop and it didn't look good at all. I watered it correctly and put it into a south facing window. Suddenly it put on two new flower spikes and a keiki. The Keiki has three leaves and three roots on it. I plan to remove the keiki and plant it soon. The orchid is blooming at the time and just keeps on putting on more flowers at the end of the spikes. It has three spikes, two with flowers and one with the keiki. Interesting video and informative also. Thanks
My keiki still has 4 flowers on the stem past its 4 leaves and 3 roots. I think I will wait until the blooms are gone to cut it off the mail plant and repot. Thank you for your pics and instructions. My plant looks very much like yours.
i too have an orchid (a mini phal) which has a leaf growing, I thought it was a keiki but is growing too strange. a great plant you have got. cant wait to see more, please keep us updated on mother and baby!!!
Thanks so much for showing me how to separate the Keiki. I have one orchid has 4 little keiki babies, and wondering about what to do. You showed me clearly and I am going try to separate keiki for the first time. cheers
My orchid plant has just developed a keiki at the very top of the spike. Now that I have watched your demonstration I guess I shall be patient and wait and see what will happen.
Thank you for this very helpful video. I never heard of a keiki orchid-but that’s what I have. Both mother and keiki have finished blooming. I will cut off the keiki as you’ve shown.
Hi Real, Your video is great. I too have had this oddity growth on a Phal. I left the baby on the mother plant and it bloomed. I don't know if it was something I did, but soon after the mother plant started to shrivel. Eventually it died. I still have the baby planted but even after almost a year nothing has happened. The plant is very healthy looking so I am just leaving it to see what will happen. Thanks Patsy
OMG you have helped me tremendously! My florist or my mother in law who has been growing orchids for 30 years had never seen this until the one that was gifted to me 4 years ago went crazy. I turned to RUclips and found you! lol so I'm gonna wait until the roots grow longer before I cut it off to plant. Thanks and I will keep you posted 😙
When you repotted & put the water in the bottom of the bowl, do you just leave the pot in that water or when do you take it out. I am sorry but I am unclear on that part?
I have ph. pink orchid that was given to me 5yrs ago flowered the first three, rested 4th and almost died this 5th yr. set out in grn house and now aug. it is alive and w/one new leaf and a keiki on the stem. will bring in soon to see if it survives. I hope it does. I have named her July. :)
Great video! For the 8 months that your keiki was on the mother plant, did you water it or mist it separately to the mother plant? I have two phalaenopsis orchids with apical keikis in "infant" stages and I'm not sure what to do when they start producing roots. Thanks.
Just what I was looking for! Bought my mom an Orhid 2 years ago and after it flowered it grew babies! Two of them. I removed the one from the top which has a few nice roots. I'm going to plant it now. Did your baby have the energy to bloom?
Thank you very interesting video. I had just planted a Phalaenopsis keiki that has been growing for almost 6 months. It has 2 leaves and 3 roots, longest root is about 6 inches. I have planted it in a clear pot with overnight pre-soaked bark. Do you think it will survive? and what does wrinkled roots mean ?
Love your site. I didn't know about Keiki's. Do you just leave the old flower spikes alone and the Keiki's develop? Or do you do something to make them form? I want to try the technique with my orchids. I have a Japanese Orchid that has been in full bloom for 2 months now; I love to look at it every day. I also have several other orchid plants. Thanks, Pam
this is about five years late, but i would leave it for about five to ten minutes. when you take it out make sure that all the excess water drains out. this is especially important for a keiki because its roots have only been exposed to air, and may not be used to more wet environments.
My keiki has flowered lovely shame I can't show a photo I couldn't bring myself to cut the flowers off but she is lush and green with lovely sweet small white flowers, mummy will make a comeback next year lots if loving to her 😍
It's been more than a year since you repotted the keiki, would love to see an update!! Thanks!
Yes I would as well and see how the other stem turned out
Getting ready to do the same thing. How did the babies fare?
This was the best I've watched. Thorough explanation. Easy to understand and I didn't have to watch a 28 min video! Thank You!
Thank you! I have just followed your instructions to pot my keiki. It too is about 8 months old but has a complete stem of flowers growing. I've left them on - I hope I don't lose them!
Did you lose the flowers and how is your plant in general
@@binkb7926 Hi - thanks for getting back. The flowers stayed for a while and then died off and I cut the spike back. The keiki still looking healthy - slow growth but the roots are spreading a new leave sprouting out now. Slow process! :)

I've just potted my keiki, very interesting, thank you Vince
I love it when nature does stuff out of the ordinary

Thanks for the video.

Excellent, brief and succinct and just what I needed to know. Thank you!

Thanks I finally got the courage to take off the keiki and plant it. It was big!
Thank you so much! I realized from your video that my Keiki, is very healthy and I should have cut it off a while ago and repotted. Thanks for your help!
Just the right info I needed. I will follow your procedures and hopefully it will be successful too. Thanks a lot for your well produced video.
Thanks fot explaining so clear! I'm just beginning with Orchids, so I can use your lessons!
Thank you. Very good presentation. As soon as one of my orchids produce a keiki, I am going to try this method.
Every once in a while I sprinkle used tea bag grounds into the bark - They seem to love it! Keikis and spikes galore :)
I hate it when TV shows end with a cliff-hanger and then the next season never comes! :P
So interesting. I have never seen a keiki grow so strangely. Even though two of my keikis started to bloom as well, it was just one huge flower and the keiki continued to grow. 💜 Beautiful video!
Your voice is so soothing, I keep zoning out.
This was an interesting video. I’ve never seen an orchid with these anomaly’s. Excellent video!
please, do the update!!!

I am happy to watch your video and learned about keike. Thanks a lot.
Thank you. Good, clear instructions. I’m doing it myself now!!!
i too have an orchid (a mini phal) which has a leaf growing, I thought it was a keiki but is growing too strange. a great plant you have got. cant wait to see more, please keep us updated on mother and baby!!!
Finally I know what to do with my strange orchid. It has a keiki on a keiki apparently . Thank you!
I've never heard of this, but the keiki and the mother plant are both doing really well regardless.
Very helpful, my orchid has grown a Keiki, so thank you
Thanks so much for showing me how to separate the Keiki.
I have one orchid has 4 little keiki babies, and wondering about what to do.

Great video, very very helpful, so thank you. Would love to see how this Keiki is in due time.
Such a lovely orchid
great video and very clearly spoken. You should ask for a mini watering can for Christmas! (to make pouring easier)
Thank you that was exactly what I needed to know and how to do it.

Love your voice! Thanks for great video!

Thanks for sharing I'm going to check if there is another video to follow this one.
Thank you for this informative video, it is going to help me tremendously.
Thank you for the advice
Thanks for your help , it was a very useful video! What happened with your orchid after you left the spike?
Really good video. Thanks.
When you repotted & put the water in the bottom of the bowl, do you just leave the pot in that water or when do you take it out. I am sorry but I am unclear on that part?
Just cut off and potted a keike today. I was in hospital for a month so it was getting limp. It has a good root system, sure hope it comes back.
Hey, I've got a keiki doing the same as yours did. I've got hydration issues with my girls. Still working on that!
Thanks for the informative video. Is there a best time to do this procedure or can I do it any point throughout the year and flowering?
Thank you! Really enjoyed this video.
Interesting vid. Had no idea this could happen.
02:26, not expecting that, laughed my ass off
thanks hope the plant is doing good..?
I have ph. pink orchid that was given to me 5yrs ago

Hi, I love this video. Did you ever make the update?
he he he. Freak of nature. 3 hands. Sometimes I wish I have 3 hands.
WOWW,,SOO BEAUTIFUL
Please do an update and show us how the Keiki is doing now... two months later...
how long would you keep this plant in the bowl of (1 inch) water??
Margi Hammond yes I agree, I wasnt understanding if he left it like this or took it out and often he recommends watering
Do not leave your phals sitting in water

Very interesting for a beginner. Thank you. What happened next?
my keiki seems too be a little premature than to cut; but i'll try your advice
