@@BytesNBits Hopefully someone eventually finds a loop hole. Now that the digital store is down, demand for piracy will sky rocket, especially for DLC.
Great video! You took me from zero knowledge to dangerously incompetent in my confidence to attempt doing this :) I just discovered thanks to YT that the XBOX would be a great gamer machine. Your video answered all the questions I had and questions I didn't know I needed to ask. Good job, ordered up the tools and now scouring Ebay for the proper candidate for this mod. :)
Finally did this myself, not gonna lie it certainly is a tad challenging soldering some of those points without disturbing the surroundings. Managed to get it though and I was very surprised when it actually worked. Using this as the main unit for a racing arcade cabinet. Mostly for daytona usa but also have every racing game the steering wheel supports also.
One other thing if I may add; after completing the mod, after a short time every game I tried kept freezing! After researching why and testing for myself the solution, I had placed the resistor under the X Clamp which apparently produces a lot of noise in the wire. As annoying as it was to take it all apart again and re-routing the resistor wire away from the back of the processor, keeping it as close to the grounded areas and down to the bottom, along the edge where the copper surround is, IT FIXED THE FREEZING! YAY! 😀 Picked up another console on ebay today for £25 inc delivery, and gonna do it again! Loads of fun, so thank you again for making a great tutorial!!!!!
@@BytesNBits My pleasure sir! I know now how to use the clamp tool properly, too and without scratching the board - I must've had it done 10x quicker this time around and is such a breeze to use! Many thanks again!!!
I watched this from start to finish although I have no intension of doing it. it's simply because it was a great tutorial and very interesting to see the work that's gone into this project to make it posable. Top stuff.
Thanks for such a thorough guide. This is a mod I've been wanting to do for a while, and feel pretty confident to give it a go. Looking forward to any follow-up vid(s) you make that look at getting more out of a hacked 360.
@@BytesNBits Everything's up and running. 2TB SSD installed, just prepping to load it up with games. I had one scary moment where I damaged a trace removing the x-clamp. My eyesight is poor so I didn't notice the notches on the x-clamp (need to look from the side) and put the tool underneath! Fortunately I have a microscope so was able to fix my mistake, and after that soldering the wires was relatively easy.
game install is very easy, copy games to the usb drive and copy to the xbox disk, i have one with the exact Aurora and everything works great, Kinect works flawless too!

Great tutorial. So concise and clear. Every step was told in detail, but you also didn't fluff about with useless info. I wish I could like the video twice.
Thank you! I just finished the mod this evening, and although I was really worried that I might have messed it up-especially after scratching the mainboard while using the tool-everything worked out in the end. If I can give some extra advice, it would be to ensure the clamp tool slots into the ends of the clamp and doesn't go fully underneath. I also put some insulation tape on the board to prevent further scratching. I bought a cheap USB microscope for £17, and it made a huge difference in accuracy. It allowed me to work the blade gently and precisely scrape away the top layer on the first connection. During the process, I accidentally desoldered the end of that closest small resistor, which was a pain to re-tin. The solder wouldn’t stick easily, and by the end of it, it looked pretty bad. At that point, I was convinced I'd ruined it, but the board turned out to be amazingly forgiving. When soldering the Pico’s wires, I encountered another issue-one pad just wouldn’t take any solder despite using flux. After properly cleaning it with isopropanol, I was able to get some fresh solder to stick. At one point, the pad turned black and looked burnt, and I thought I'd messed it up again. I ended up using a fiberglass pen to remove the black layer, and that finally worked.
Came back after following a successful guide to jailbreak my console with one more thing, special thanks for saying that we need to save backup of nand files, I had parental control turned on, and once I saw process to remove it I start panicking little bit because there is no way that Im gonna disassemble my console and solder pico again just to read my reset code... Thank you man
There's a method of obtaining the universal key from Microsoft support for your console, so it's not too big of a deal. Saving the NAND is pretty much mandatory regardless
This is a great tutorial. You’ve taken a lot of highly detailed information and explained it in a way that an intermediate PC enthusiast can understand. I hope everyone who tries this has a great result. I will certainly give it a go when I find the time. I will probably give careful consideration to using a pre-made nand flash card or making one from a Pico. The later maybe riskier for my hardware, but you have explained it very well and I would be comfortable doing it this way. Many thanks.
RGH3 mod was a bit too beyond my abilities and I didnt want to brick it so I sent mine off to be modded last year and I wish i'd done it sooner, its absolutely brilliant. Mine is mainly full of japanese shmups that werent released over here. And Aurora is much nicer than that awful ad filled metro interface they switched to.
It's a great console, especially after it's modded. Hope you're enjoying it. Have a go with a second one yourself. It's not too hard. Just take it slow and check your work.
I was able to rgh3 5 consoles and I was 16 at the time "a year ago" if anything it isn't difficult it's expensive to buy good enough equipment to not kill the console with cheap garbage + no skill Tbf unless you plan on doing it on a large scale or on different consoles like gba or switch I'd recommend just buying a pre modded console
@@Mr_Sppedteach a man to fish and he’ll eat forever. It’s better to learn things for yourself instead of paying cause that’s how u can get ripped off real quick
Thanks. I'd always shied away from hard modding as the parts you needed just pushed the cost up too much. This one, especially with the Pi Pico programmer is great.
the torx you need are t6 and t8, from memory. also, if you're using a phat, save your effort and get an opener tool, which usually comes with a t6/t8 in the same form factor as an allen key.
I have t say thank you for this video. Excellent work here. I have minimal experience with soldering and i managed to do this. The end wasn't pretty but it works so i am happy. I managed to do this without a magnifier which made it even harder. Any recommendation for a magnifier on the cheap side as i barely solder? Last but not least i am not sure if i missed it, but once i finished flashing the nand and i tested it and i validated the hack worked, i didnt know that the XBOX will continuously flash because the DVD drive is not connected (the xbox was partially disassembled still). Just an FYI for any newcomers that come across your video.
Thanks for your comments. Glad to hear you got it working. Thanks for the heads up on the DVD light. I hadn't noticed that! For a magnifier I use a headset (amzn.to/3S6TUyS). Great for soldering but also for general use around the house.
To be honest I'm not sure. Have a look at my more in depth guide to getting games running and see if that helps out. ruclips.net/video/UtxVfuC05wk/видео.html
You will also need iso2god as some games wont work in extracted format. A 4tb or 5tb hd is large enough to store all of the games made including xbla. The multi disk games are easy to figure out how to install in correct order in order to play right
1:14:01 It shows me the screen, it said Dashlaunch version does not match ! Currently running: V 3.18 Do you want to update?. What does that mean? And if I connect to the internet in this situation will my Xbox360 be blocked?
it seems like the retrohaked website got taken down. ist there any other option for the tool? i am just plannin of doing the but this tool is unavailable . :(
Watching this avidly, then all of a sudden a 10k resistor is added from nowhere, with no prior warning? That's not even in the list of components required above? Confused
Sorry. I guess I forgot not everyone has a supply of general electronic components on hand. They are very easy and cheap to get hold of though. You only need the one.
Question, Did you leave those 7 jumper wires that you used to connect the pico to the motherboard soldered into the 360 or did you desolder them from the board? I'm just unsure if I missed it if you took them out before reassembly
With any kind of project like this, typically you desolder, clean up with wick, and then varnish it again. For those without the equipment, just removing the wires/solder, and cleaning up leftover residue(corrosive flux/slag) with >89% iso alcohol will do you fine.

Everything worked wonderfully for three weeks, but now I've been having problems for a few days. For newly added games, covers are no longer being downloaded. If I try to download the covers manually, it takes a long time, and then it says 'no covers found.' Same for old games. Downloading title updates also takes a very long time. In the download directory, it first says 'invalid device,' and then it switches to \xbox360\system\Hdd1 as it used to. When I try to start the repo browser, I get the message: 'error downloading information.' What's going on?
I used to have a JTAG X360 that I water-cooled and had some fun with but at this point I pretty much have every X360 game I would be interested in playing on Disc or Digital, so this is interesting but not something I would do today. I hope this increases the resale price of the Xbox 360 Slim though!
Did you manage to get a backup of the original NAND? You'll need that to get it back to it's original state. Before you do that check your solder joints and wiring. It might just be a bad connection on the mod wiring. If you still want to go back to original you'll need to find a tutorial on how to do it. Basically you'll re flash your backup nand files but you'll need a tutorial to help you.
Okay I got it to work. I used very small laminated wires from the a relay. I think there was too much resistance. After I re-did with 30awg wire and it worked
Could someone help me please? I‘ve got a slim with corona mainboard, 16mb flash and a post out adapter (got no traces on mainboard), did everything right with soldering, read and flashed with pico, no problems and both reads were the same. At the step when xell should boot up, the console boots like normal and i got no video, no matter if hdmi or component cables, but when i reflash the original nand file it boots normal
I had a quick look at someone had the same issue. They solved it by updating the console firmware before installing the mod... It seems firmware was the issue. I supposed it was already updated to 17559 since console was in use. But it turns out it wasn't. I updated it online and, resoldered wires back and now Xell booted fine and procedure went without any glitches.

I have a question is it possible I can play The Scarface The world is yours game on the Xbox 360 ? I have the 250 GB one and wondering what exactly I need or to do to play it on my Xbox 360?
wanna do this but i heard the xbox servers for 360 were deactivated will this affect it?. This seems like something I could do. just worry about the soldering but your guide is next level informative and sure I would have no problem following your guide. It's just the soldering. I would probably get a cheaper solderer. Not too cheap obviously. But um does it still works if so I will pick up an xbox and all the equipment you listed and give it a go. looks great. I just watched the whole thing nearly. Up to 1 hour 27 minutes and guessing the rest is just about copying games. Let me know if it's affected by the 360 servers being shutdown. So I heard.
Don't worry about the Xbox servers. It just means you can't download games etc. You actually block the modded console from connecting to Microsoft anyway as their servers can detect the hack and block your account. The soldering will be fine. Just make sure you take your time and are gentle, especially when scraping back the solder mask. Make sure your soldering iron has a small tip. As long as it can melt the solder and you use flux it will work fine. Good luck.
Hey, is there any Details I Need to know about the iso-files? Because I have a lot of old iso-files downloaded 10 years ago, which work fine. But when I download other Roms now, they are not playable. When the iso is loaded the Xbox says “to play the disc, put it in an Xbox 360 console.” I also downloaded same game which I had already, with the old iso it works, with new iso it doesn’t work. The iso files itself looks similar. Any idea what the problem could be.?
Have a look at this video - ruclips.net/video/UtxVfuC05wk/видео.html. It goes into the whole process in a lot more detail. There are a couple of types of ISO file but you can reformat them to work on the console.
You can mod the phat version with RGH3 but it might not always boot correctly. I think it's hard to say if it will work before you mod it. You might then need to fall back to an earlier RGH version perhaps with a glitch chip.
Wait. I can finally download xbox 360 games like older forza from abandonware whatever the website which provide xbox 360 games iso so you can install on xbox 360 without having an physical copy?
I feel stupid asking but can we do this with a cheap laptop or do i need to buy a set ? I have no clue what im buying. Back in the day i would just use a usb and horizon to mod stats and gamescore thats as much as i can do
hey you mentioned using an ssd for this and formatting it to fat32. do you have any tips on how to do that? what I keep running into is that the size of the drive is too large to format under that sile system. so it only lets me do exfat or NTFS. curious if there's a work around to have the larger drives be able to be formatted in fat32. thanks in advance!
An SSD might not be the best choice if you plan on using the console a lot. It obviously won't make a difference vs. an HDD if you use an external USB drive, and if you use an SSD as the internal drive, the 360 cannot use TRIM, so the drive life will be significantly shorter than it would be in a PC
I'm not sure if there are Mac versions of the ISO extraction software. Transferring files will be fine, it's just that you need to process the game backup iso files.
Is the scan depth important? Can't you just set it to infinity or does that have any disadvantages? Because I bought an moddet xbox and everything was set to infinity there
Some of the games folders are very deep with lots of files in the lower levels. Scanning too deep just makes it work slower. It won't crash, just a few extra seconds to wait!
I have connected all the wires to my Xbox (the ones going to the pi pico) and jrun wont read the Xbox! It says Console not found! I have reinstalled my wires twice now and it still says console not found!
There are a few things to check. These are in the order I'm thinking of them rather than any priority order :) Have you identified the console correctly and wired it in the correct layout? Check the NAND chips as well to make sure you know if you've got 4GB or 16GB. Check the wiring at the Pico end as well. Have you got the power brick attached and powered on, but the console powered off? We need background power going to the motherboard. Can Jrunner see the PicoFlasher? Look for the icon in the Jrunner screen. Check your wiring for the modification. Make sure the solder connections are good. Not sure what else to try! If you've got a second Pico try that as well. Hope you get it going!
I'm planning to do this to one of my 360's in the next few days, but I have a question about 360 games and most of the answers I've found online are very vague, it's almost as if people don't know or don't want to take the time to answer questions for someone who is hacking a 360 for the first time, or maybe is just me. My question is, why would you choose to download games on the ISO format if/when the same games are available in the Jtag/RGH format and the file sizes are usually smaller than the same games in ISO format? I downloaded a game on both formats, the ISO file was 7.29 GB and the Jtag/RGH was 605 MB, after extracting the ISO with 360mpGui the extracted files were the same size and the same files I got with the Jtag/RGH version, also the Jtag/RGH files are already extracted once is uncompressed so you don't have to extract them with 360mpGui. I know in some cases the difference between ISO and Jtag/RGH files is not so big, but still the Jtag/RGH files are always smaller and end up being the same files you get after extracting the ISO files.
I guess RGH files are probably exactly as you've discovered. I have to admit though that I too prefer to download the iso versions to make sure I've got the original disk and do the conversion myself. I guess whatever works best for you!
@@BytesNBits I understand why you prefer ISO, I used to get untouched PS3 1 to 1 ISOs, get the encryptions keys and unencrypt them myself, even when scene versions ready to use were available. Thanks for the video and your response to my question.
On the console, you either have the extracted files from the ISO, or you have a GOD package. Having the ISO as the original file makes it easy to choose either. There are a lot of bad dumps out there, and most of the known good game files are available in ISO format. Extracting doesn't take long, and you can choose which format you want that way. Converting from GOD to extracted or vice versa is more complicated than just extracting the ISO or using ISO2GOD.
I would have re-installed the CPU before soldering those leads from the PICO. It would be safer to do that so you don't rip a Pad off the MB! FileZilla is good, but I prefer WinSCP.
I got my modded 360 I didn't do it myself A friend of a friend did it for me. 75% of the complete library of games but there was some that are missing. And a couple of others didn't work properly sound but no picture.😩 I'm not good at adding games to stuff like this.... Somehow I always mess up even with step by steps. I just wanted to know is it still safe to just play the games off the disc. Only reason why I say that is cuz I tried it since I had it. We're bioshock 3 I was Playing it on the the disc but Aurora act a little funky after trying to go back to the Aurora home screen. But everything was fine afterwards but it just had me thinking is it's safe to do that? I mean by your videos I'm pretty sure I could probably do it but it's only a handful of games that I would be playing on discs anyways. Cuz I pretty much have all the games that I want on the hard drive to begin with.
i have a question, does the xbox needs wifi, or to be connected to a network to do all that process, or the wifi is needed only for the covers. because im planning to mod my 360 but when i saw that you need wifi, ive done some xbox live tests and it gave me an error when trying to connect to the network. but it says its connected to my home wifi which is really confusing. i hope you understand
Not for the Xbox 360. This is the least intrusive method with just the two wires needing to be added. I think the original Xbox can be modded with software only.
I honestly don't know. The wires will give the processor a reset pulse at an exact time to launch the glitch hack, so probably you'll get into some sort of reset loop or the system may just crash. I probably wouldn't try it out though!
After watching this tutorial I decide to give it a go and all went well until I tried to read the Nand, each time I tried I kept getting the error "Pico Flasher com port can't be found" J-Runner showed the Pico Flasher logo and although all my connection checked out correctly I could not get the Nand to be read, I tried it on multiple PC's, USB ports and cables I even tried Two Picos but no luck unfortunately the result is always the same. Interestingly in some videos while J-Runner is open when the Pico is connected to the PC the logo appears in J-Runner and when the Pico is disconnected from the PC the logo disappears but not in my case, I have to have the Pico connected to the PC then open J-Runner for the logo to show and when I disconnect the Pico the logo does not disappear which makes me think not all Pico's are created equal. As always a great video keep up the good work.
@@BytesNBits Thank you for your reply, yes I tried that as well but still it wont read, when I go into my Device Manager it shows a yellow symbol and when I check properties it shows this.... "To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver" I have no idea where to get this driver or why I need it as all the videos that I have watched only show dumping the Flasher file to the Pico, I'm afraid I have run out of things to try other then get another Pico and hope third times a charm.🤞
How much can I spend on the modding equipment without spending too much? I'm on Amazon and the total is around £60 which is a bit steep seeing that buying a used Xbox 360 Slim with the accessories is another £30-£50 which adds up to around £100 total.
It depends on what you've got lying around already. You need a soldering iron, solder and flux, wire and resistor, and a Raspberry Pi Pico. You should be able to pick this up for under £25. The soldering iron will be the most expensive but a cheap one will work. The clamp tool is optional, just be very careful removing the clamp.
If you have none of the equipment to do this and you just want a console for your own use, you're better off just buying a pre-modder console from a reputable seller

You need to use the Xbox to format the drive. Once you've modded the console you can use any 2.5 inch drive. If it's not yet modded you need to get a specially prepared drive.
Definitely something I want done with mine, I'll likely send mine off to a service so I can get a hard drive preloaded with mods and stuff. Mine is the special blue 360E :) (luckily not a Winchester model (you can't mod those))
Hello sir, I bought a modded Xbox but the data management is absolutely chaotic. I would like to reset the Software and do everything again according to your instructions. What is the best way to do that? Just delete everything from the HDD?
You'll need to check what hack was used for the console. If you find a circuit board attached to your motherboard you'll need to de solder it and install the RGH 3 wires and go through the nand programming stage. If it's already an RGH3 mod make sure you can boot into Xell. If you want to wipe the hard drive make sure you first back up anything you need from it and then format the drive as shown in the video. Then follow the setup as per the video. Hope you get it going.
Everything worked even up until the create xell but when I turned on my Xbox the Red dot of death appeared. Sad day for my second xbox 360 that was collecting dust anyways.
Ok for those who are curious about multi player discs like Halo 3: ODST, just copy all the files that are in the “maps” folder then paste them in the “maps” folder that’s in the Halo 3 game that’s on your harddrive assuming you already downloaded Halo 3 to your harddrive. No need to copy the whole Halo 3: ODST multiplayer game disc 👍

hello mate, Thank you for the video its great and easy to follow, just one quick question what gauge wire did you use for the two permanent connections??

Hi, I have a broken Xbox 360 and I was wondering if hacking it could fix it. It's stuck on a black screen asking me to update (to 13146) but when I plug an USB key with the update files it doesn't update. Would hacking it help me bypass this error or it would brick further the already unusable console?
The hack might help you update the system but it will depend on what's stopping it from working at the moment. Have you tried using different usb ports and different usb sticks. Make sure they are formatted in FAT32.
@@BytesNBits I tried all the USB ports, the light on my USB key turns on yet nothing happens. It is a FAT32 4gb old key, I'll try with a newer one but I'm not sure it'll change anything. If it's a 4GB console, it might have a failing memory unit. If it's a Trinity, open it up and unplug it from the board. If it's a Corona, it's on its last legs
amazing video, and it actually worked perfectly up until the bot test, it only boots to the xell screen, eject or pwr button doesnt really matter, it doesnt go to the regular xbox dash, any idea why?
It sounds like the final step where you create the XeBuild and write it to the NAND hasn't completed correctly. You'll need to go back and reflash the NAND. Hope you get it going!

Insane that the 360 nearly 20 years later can’t be hacked without special physical hardware.
I guess Microsoft did a pretty good job on securing the code.

Great. Give it a go. Hope you have fun with your modded console.
dangerously incompetent 😂😂
The dangerously incompetent welcome you brother. Hugs. No homo.. 🙂
How’d everything work out for you?
I'm dangerously incompetent as well. Just a few step away from totally destroying something. 🙂
Sounds like a great setup.
Thats awesome!!
YAY! 😀
Picked up another console on ebay today for £25 inc delivery, and gonna do it again! Loads of fun, so thank you again for making a great tutorial!!!!!
Great to hear you got it going and thanks for letting me know about the troubleshooting tips.
Top stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it! Keep an eye put for a few more console mods coming soon.
Thanks for such a thorough guide. This is a mod I've been wanting to do for a while, and feel pretty confident to give it a go. Looking forward to any follow-up vid(s) you make that look at getting more out of a hacked 360.
Great. Definitely get yourself one. Just uploaded a more in depth game install video.
How you can instal games
game install is very easy, copy games to the usb drive and copy to the xbox disk, i have one with the exact Aurora and everything works great, Kinect works flawless too!

Great tutorial. So concise and clear. Every step was told in detail, but you also didn't fluff about with useless info. I wish I could like the video twice.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your comments.
Glad to hear you got it working. Great tips for when it doesn't all go to plan.
Thank you man
Glad I could help
You're very welcome! Hope you get a chance to make one.
RGH3 mod was a bit too beyond my abilities and I didnt want to brick it so I sent mine off to be modded last year and I wish i'd done it sooner, its absolutely brilliant. the torx you need are t6 and t8, from memory.
also, if you're using a phat, save your effort and get an opener tool, which usually comes with a t6/t8 in the same form factor as an allen key.

@@BytesNBits no worries, still a great video.
Question, Did you leave those 7 jumper wires that you used to connect the pico to the motherboard soldered into the 360 or did you desolder them from the board? I'm just unsure if I missed it if you took them out before reassembly
I removed the wires and pico before putting it all back together again.
With any kind of project like this, typically you desolder, clean up with wick, and then varnish it again.
For those without the equipment, just removing the wires/solder, and cleaning up leftover residue(corrosive flux/slag) with >89% iso alcohol will do you fine.

Did you manage to get a backup of the original NAND? You'll need that to get it back to it's original state. Before you do that check your solder joints and wiring. wanna do this but i heard the xbox servers for 360 were deactivated will this affect it?.
The iso files itself looks similar.
Any idea what the problem could be.?
Have a look at this video - ruclips.net/video/UtxVfuC05wk/видео.html. It goes into the whole process in a lot more detail. There are a couple of types of ISO file but you can reformat them to work on the console.
is there any way to mod xbox and still get achievements playing these old games on console??
You can log in to Xbox live but I think you need to set up ghost servers and such like. I'd avoid it so you don;t get your account banned.
Where can I buy a SSD hard drive for this for a xbox that i bought pre modded
Any 2.5in SSD will work. You'll just need to reload the data on the hard drive after installing it.
So, it's not gonna work for fat version of xbox 360?
You can mod the phat version with RGH3 but it might not always boot correctly. I think it's hard to say if it will work before you mod it. You might then need to fall back to an earlier RGH version perhaps with a glitch chip.
RGH 1.2 is recommended for phats. Instant boots are consistent but it needs a glitch chip
Wait. I can finally download xbox 360 games like older forza from abandonware whatever the website which provide xbox 360 games iso so you can install on xbox 360 without having an physical copy?
Yes. If you can get hold of game backups you can play them on the real hardware.
I feel stupid asking but can we do this with a cheap laptop or do i need to buy a set ? I have no clue what im buying. Back in the day i would just use a usb and horizon to mod stats and gamescore thats as much as i can do
The hack software will run on almost any Windows PC.
hey you mentioned using an ssd for this and formatting it to fat32. do you have any tips on how to do that? what I keep running into is that the size of the drive is too large to format under that sile system. so it only lets me do exfat or NTFS. curious if there's a work around to have the larger drives be able to be formatted in fat32. thanks in advance!
I use a package called Minitool Partition Wizard Free - www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
An SSD might not be the best choice if you plan on using the console a lot. It obviously won't make a difference vs. an HDD if you use an external USB drive, and if you use an SSD as the internal drive, the 360 cannot use TRIM, so the drive life will be significantly shorter than it would be in a PC
can i install games with my apple laptop to my xbox after following steps?
I'm not sure if there are Mac versions of the ISO extraction software. Transferring files will be fine, it's just that you need to process the game backup iso files.
Is the scan depth important? Can't you just set it to infinity or does that have any disadvantages? Because I bought an moddet xbox and everything was set to infinity there
Some of the games folders are very deep with lots of files in the lower levels. Scanning too deep just makes it work slower. It won't crash, just a few extra seconds to wait!
@@BytesNBitsThanks for the reply. What depth is recommended for game folders? I set it to 5
5 is fine. I think in reality we're only talking about a few seconds extra scanning time if that!
I have connected all the wires to my Xbox (the ones going to the pi pico) and jrun wont read the Xbox! It says Console not found! I have reinstalled my wires twice now and it still says console not found!
There are a few things to check. These are in the order I'm thinking of them rather than any priority order :)
Have you identified the console correctly and wired it in the correct layout?
Thanks for the tips. Good advice.

I mean by your videos I'm pretty sure I could probably do it but it's only a handful of games that I would be playing on discs anyways. Cuz I pretty much have all the games that I want on the hard drive to begin with.
Disks should be fine on a modded XBox. Just play them as normal.

I don't think the xbox needs a wifi connection to complete the hack. As you say you won't get cover art but the rest should be fine.
Is there a non intrusive method?
Not for the Xbox 360. This is the least intrusive method with just the two wires needing to be added. I think the original Xbox can be modded with software only.
@@BytesNBits well thanks
What would happen if I hook all the wires up but forget to program it and turn it on?
I honestly don't know. The wires will give the processor a reset pulse at an exact time to launch the glitch hack, so probably you'll get into some sort of reset loop or the system may just crash. I probably wouldn't try it out though!

Can you use a SSD instead of a 2tb spinner HDD?
Yes. I think most drives are compatible, at least if you go for a branded model. I'm not sure if the SSD will make much speed difference though.
Yes, but it won't make much of a difference, and the drive life will be shorter because the 360 does not have TRIM capability
I already have one buy from shop but they don't have aurora software
If i download auror software will my data of games in hardware delete??
The hack will keep your game saves unless you format your hard drive.
Is there no way to be still able to play online ?
You can have a look at using a stealth server. Not something I've tried and not sure if it's a foolproof solution.
On mine I had to connect everything up and then flash the pico while it was all connected to get it to work.
@@BytesNBits Thank you for your reply, yes I tried that as well but still it wont read, when I go into my Device Manager it shows a yellow symbol and when I check properties it shows this.... "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"
"There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."
"To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver"
I have no idea where to get this driver or why I need it as all the videos that I have watched only show dumping the Flasher file to the Pico, I'm afraid I have run out of things to try other then get another Pico and hope third times a charm.🤞
Rewatching as I've ordered a PICO, was curious about the board holder you had, do you have a link for it ?
Is this the white breadboard I plugged it into? If you look online for solderless breadboard it should pop up.
@@BytesNBits it was the board holder you had holding the xbox motherboard
@@andrewferguson7762just look up soft clamp motherboards holder
Can I also do this with a Zephyr model or do I also need a glitch chip ?
I think the RGH3 mod is a bit hit and miss on this model. You might be better off with the RGH2 mod which I think uses the glitch chip.
@@BytesNBits I recently received a 360 as a gift. It's really complicated with the different versions. I think the ext_clk is for the Glitcher and rgh2 for the 360
EXT_CLK is the best method for Zephyrs. You do need a glitch chip
You should have gone a bit further and recased it with better cooling solutions. Will it have problems running if you completely remove the drive bay since it useless if you're playing with digital games?
Thanks for the tip. I'm not sure about removing the DVD. I guess there's only one way to find out.
it does help a small bit, less running parts to fail as well. also, vibrations from the rom would cease which can help with solder integrity.
Thanks your vid inspired me to dust off my xbox 360 and rgh it. Month later and I'm still adding 360 and OG xbox games, xbla titles, avatar items, gamer pics ect to my 2tb internal drive 😅.
Fantastic. Have fun!
followed same process and cant get the pico to find the console any advice? soldering looks clean but ive decided to tear ir apart and set the wires again. also my pico came with pins attached could that be the issue??
You're doing the right thing. Sometimes a visual inspection doesn't show up a dry solder joint or other issue. The pre soldered header pins on the Pico are fine.
I love my RGH 360. I play Midnight Club LA on it all the time with my racing wheel.
Great to hear!
Can you hack all of the models of the Xbox 360 such as the white console called the Xbox 360 Core, Slim, and Xbox 360 e?
No. Only certain models can be hacked. Phat, slim and some e will work. I think I cover it in the video.
OK ! THANK YOU , I THOUGHT,. WIN 7 OUR LOWER . BUT I WILL GO WITH WIN 10 . IS THERE A WAY TO FORMATE A HARD DRIVE TO 360. I HAD GOT ONE FROM AMAZON . THE 360 SEE IT. BUT I TRY ,A O STRESS TEST ! .ON THE DRIVE ,AND IT ERASE THE DRIVE. SO ! I TRY TO PUT IT BACK IN THE 360 .BUT IT DIDN'T SEE THE DRIVE .SO ! I WONT TO KNOW ON WHAT TO DO .FOR THE DRIVE .THANK YOU .FOR YOUR TIME .MR.BIG D.!
Mine is the special blue 360E :) (luckily not a Winchester model (you can't mod those))
Yes. Get it modded!
Check your wiring and soldering. You might have a bad connection or solder bridge.
Thanks for the tip.
@@BytesNBits as for game of the year editions like fallout and halo oblivion you need it install the main game like you showed in your tutorial, then put the 2nd disc in play it and download all the maps like you normally would just install it onto your harddrive 👍🙂
Some early E models I heard can be RGH3'd.... Will you be covering XBLA and XBLI games?
Yes you're right. Unfortunately you have to take the Xbox apart to find out which one you've got.
@@BytesNBits I believe there is a updated power chart you can follow to see which one you have.... I have a copy somewhere.
@@BytesNBits What else on the 360 RGH3 will you be covering in future videos?
I have all the parts for the mod, however I am having some trouble with downloading the games. Whenever I download games from “The Vault” it comes in a 7z form. What I’m trying to get at is how do I change the 7z file to a iOS file
You need an app such as 7-zip. This is able to extract the iso file from the 7z archive file.
@@BytesNBits Whenever I extract it with 7zip it becomes a regular folder and not a iso D:

Sir, could you give me a hint on where to look for someone who could install the mod for me? I've had mine since release and i would hate to fry it or break it
There are some people who do this sort of thing but I don't know of anyone myself. You'll have to have a look online.
great detailed video, so much so I've taken the plunge to do one of these boxes.
got a trinity box plus controller (no power brick, i have one), from ebay, had everything else.
have done all the soldering, connected to pico board, flashed it, run j-runner but is not detecting console
resoldered all joints twice, have also reverted to using solder points on the underside of the board, still not recognising console
any advice?
ps, console was working before starting project, ty
Is j Runner talking to the Pico Flasher - does the icon appear in the j Runner app window? Have you got the power brick attached to the console and power turned on so the console has standby power? Check all your wiring and look for any places where your wires might have touched another pad or component. Especially check the connection where you had to scrape away the solder mask.
If all else fails desolder the mod and try the console to make sure it's all still working as a retail machine. If that's all OK try modding again. Hope you get it going.
took your advice, stripped back to retail console and it still worked perfectly. Resoldered wires back on and it talked to xbox, Now have a hacked xbox, slowly loading games into it now, huge thanks
hello mate, Thank you for the video its great and easy to follow, just one quick question what gauge wire did you use for the two permanent connections??
I use 30AWG. But anything fine will do.
30 AWG single core is highly recommended. Anything bigger will make it difficult to solder to the exposed PLL point, which is almost always the point where new installers mess it up
I got an Xbox 360 to play ultimate spider man that’s supposed to be backwards compatible with ultimate spider man but it keeps telling me that it’s not compatible
You'll need to have a look online for some advice. I haven't tried that game.
you need the backwards compatible profile that the XBL server had, find that and it'll work.
hey im having problems with the Xell write, it say its writing it and give a sound effect. however it doesnt show it has completeted. idk how to fix this
Does it give the write successful message. If so that step should be all OK.
@@BytesNBits it does not
My j runner keeps closing after reading both nands. No body is talking about this anywhere i can find. Dose anyone know how to fux this?
Check all your wiring, especially the Pico connections if you're using the pico flasher (or any other flasher). Make sure there are no solder bridges and the solder joints are good.
literally have 3 360s lying around, one elite and one slim. thinking of doing the system and have done some light soldering on guitars and laptops before but nothing major; just wondering about how daunting it is. should i just purchase everything and get stuck in?
much appreciated; ace video.
If you take it slow. Make sure to use some flux paste to help the joins. Take the scraping off the solder mask very carefully, layer by layer until you get to the copper. You'll be fine. It's not really as hard as it looks.
After I wrote my xell onto my nand my system will not show an image to get my cpu key! Fan will just spin up and power light comes on. Any pointers would be appreciated. Also I cannot get jrunner to find my console either.
Check all your wiring and solder joints for bad connections and repeat the jRunner process.
Is there a way to meter your connections on the bottom to check pll I do not wanna mess with that pad any more. Console will still boot into retail flash.
Update got errrr
I cant get jrunner to open up can someone help me out? I download it and I click on jrunner can nothing happens
Have you tried reinstalling it from a fresh download.
Can I send in my Xbox to have it modified with all games. please let me know.
I think there are some people who offer this service. You'll need to have a look online to find them.
I've named the update folder $systemupdate, $SystemUpdate... no luck. I've seen old reddit and forum posts having the same issue but not a single one said how they fixed it :/
If it's a 4GB console, it might have a failing memory unit. If it's a Trinity, open it up and unplug it from the board. If it's a Corona, it's on its last legs

Unfortunately, it did not work with me. It says the file is corrupt.
Plz teach me how to solve my problem.
Which file is corrupt?
amazing video, and it actually worked perfectly up until the bot test, it only boots to the xell screen, eject or pwr button doesnt really matter, it doesnt go to the regular xbox dash, any idea why?
It sounds like the final step where you create the XeBuild and write it to the NAND hasn't completed correctly. You'll need to go back and reflash the NAND. Hope you get it going!
Awesome video thanks for the detailed instructions, cant wait to mod my xbox
