First Boss is Too Hard

Star Ocean 2 Second Story R is the remake of the original Playstation 1 era classic. Universe difficulty can be rough racing against the three hour demo limit. Cannot wait to play the full game on November 2, 2023!

You've probably figured this out by now but a good strategy for this fight is to just control claude and make use of perfect evades to attack him safely since Claude won't have good enough accuracy to stagger him consistently. Generally if you do this he won't even get close to Rena so she's free to pepper him with Crush's.

Got him the next try. Was easier on my Claude playthrough because he was leveled up. Will keep this in mind since I will be doing Rena on release, thanks!!

There are two ways to win this. You either control Claude and wait for an opening to attack, or you have Rena attack him from behind while Claude attacks from the front, this will stunlock him and make it impossible for him to attack you.

Did that fight on Universe without getting hit. It didn't even get the chance to attack.

This will cause casuals to rage quit. Overtuned on Earth for sure, lvl 1 Claude with no equipment nor moves makes him very weak and just prone to getting one-shot.

and on Earth mode a LV 8 Rena won't die in 1 hit but since on this version under the HEALING ONLY AI tactic she almost NEVER uses it so once a LV 1 Claude on RENA game DIES in 1 hit Rena would die in 2 to 3 hits after.

About that I find HIM too hard to kill on this version on EARTH mode so on Earth/Easy mode he can still hit Claude/Rena for 250 to 300+ damage IN 1 hit KILLING them on EARTH mode in 1 hit.
So for Universe mode FORGET it in the full game or at least NEVER attempt it without 4x Bloody armor users Claude Opera Bowman and Dias for the first half and replace BOWMAN on a RENA game with a lv 100+ Chisato during the 2nd half of the FULL game for Universe mode.

Also the Marvel Sword for a 100% hit rate is a MUST BUT you actually need to KILL this BOSS BEFORE you can even get Claude to equip it.
