I think it was a bigger loss for Dream Theater. He did much more than play drums, and those tasks got taken up by other members when he left. He sang lots of backing vocals, wrote songs and lyrics. Portnoy has created another version of DT with Sons of Apollo. He has given so much more music with other groups and projects that I don't see the regret. He is also the last person struggling to get a gig. I hated when he wasn't in DT, anymore, but I have followed his projects more than DT, since then. Avenge Sevenfold was another good one.

Luzier, not so much. He's a great drummer no doubt about that, but he "just" sounds like "thousands" before him.

We have similar taste. They're all my favorites. But one you didn't mention is Gavin Harrison. He's pretty good. Much different style then these guys (and Lang) but equally amazing
