Hi Everyone, We hope you enjoyed our video! Would you RV in a Pop Up Camper? Please say hello by leaving a comment below! Also, please feel free to ask any questions or just tell us about yourselves. We want to get to know you and share our RV experiences.
My folks had a Coleman pop up when I was a kid. No AC. No fridge. No toilet or shower. It sucked trying to sleep at night with no AC and only a small oscillating fan to move the humid, heavy summer air. That said, when I was looking at getting into trailer/RV camping last year, I was looking at pop ups with AC. That's when I found they now have fridges, toilets, and showers. Personally, I have no issues using the campground facilities. However, the wife quickly vetoed that. Also, I'm not real keen on the idea of doing your business three feet from where you cook your food and wash your dishes.
I really really like that first one. It looks like it has hard walls instead of tent material like most popups.. but I actually really enjoy using the pop up campers because like you said, it’s like sleeping in a tent but your up off the ground and have a few more amenities!! But that first one for $11,000 is absolutely perfect for me!

I spent many nights in my 76 Apache just like this with my 2 Todders in the early 80s. Easy pull, set up, and take down...even while juggling the babies.❤

I found my perfect pop up. A 2010 Coleman Evolution E4. It has a walled shower/toilet combo. Dinette slide, bigger than normal fridge for a popup and a deck on the front to put our golf cart or motorcycles on. In a little less than two years our retirement adventure starts.
I like the hard shells. I know that they add a little to the price tag but that added protection from wildlife (bears, in particular) is worth it if you want to spend much time in the mountains.

I really like the slide-out model popups. After being stuck inside a small popup (no slide) during a weekend storm with my wife, two kids and their grandmother, interior room does matter! The rain was blowing sideways, so sitting outside under the awning was not an option on that trip... We had to dash to the bath house to use the toilet. A shower/bath is definitely on my list also! We ended up getting a refund for the remaining two nights and renting a cabin onsite. It took awhile to convince my wife to go camping again (I took her tent camping on our first trip after I met her). The popup was a compromise. If your spouse doesn't like roughing it, get a popup with all the bells and whistles (just trust me on this one). Some are now prewired for Solar!
Hands down on the first one. Nothing beats a private bathroom! And it's got really nice unusual lines. I grew up with a 1960s Coleman popup camper in a family of 4. It was cozy!

This really surprised me because I never knew pop ups have bathrooms. When I was a kid we had a pop up camper and it didn't have a bathroom. We had a portable toilet. Our pop up camper was a 1995 Coleman Rio Grande. After that we bought a 2001 Sportsmen camper. Now I have a brand new travel trailer. I bought a 2022 Jayco Jay Flight 224BH after we sold the Sportsmen camper to a guy who has custody to his kids. Thanks for sharing that information
I like the A- LINER POp-Camper Rockwell WITH THE BUILT IN BATHROOM WITH SHOWER AND DOO..The first one you show. Its perfect for me and my son go camping.

Very good reviews of the pop ups. We currently own a "A-Liner" 2015 and had many trips. For 2 people it has everything we need: heat, ac, toilet, microwave, stove, sink (in smaller versions). We are now looking to trade up. Very good advise to rent first before you buy. See if you like RV-ing first and what type of camping RV-ing you want to do.
Hi Jay, We recommend that all the time because people buy an RV and then buy another one 2 years later. Happens all the time! Thanks for watching and commenting! Watching again ! due this spring we have decided to pull the trigger sell our boat and buy a pop up with a bathroom, heat and air. Thanks, I think we are going to look for used because a lot of people buy a pop up then want something bigger. They go fairly cheap. If it doesn’t have a bathroom, my dad can put one in. He put one one his pontoon.

That's awesome! We love Pop Up campers. They are underrated, undervalued campers! Thank you for watching our RV tour video and commenting. We appreciate your support!
I love pop-up "tents" not a hard-side - the best floorplan of a pop-up is one that has a u-shaped galley at both ends with drop down tables - so you get two separate seating / eating areas (not sure anyone makes this floorplan anymore) - the toilet shower is in the middle with the sink stove and fridge - make sure to get A/C
Hi secpac58chichi, Susan and I have never seen a floor plan like you describe but it sounds pretty cool. We just filmed some video reviews of the newest popup camper models yesterday at the MD RV Show so be on the lookout for our next popup camper video in the upcoming weeks! IN 1986 we bought a colman pop up camper made by fleetwood called the plantation model It had a solid wall shower/tub and toliet area and there was even a window in it. Oh how I loved that trailer !! 3 burner stove and oven, refrigerator hot and cold water plus a furness. 26 ft opened gross vehicle weight 2750 pounds gross hitch weight 250 and ofcourse electric brakes. That was pop up luxury !!!!
I (Susan) love pop ups too! I had one when my kids were little, but as a single mom, it was a lot of work 🥵. Thank you for watching our RV tour video and commenting!
That was a really great video I loved and enjoyed seeing all the different models that you showed I just recently got a used pop-up camper it is a 1995 Thor Skamper and it has the bathroom in it and shower like the one popup you showed and I'm very much looking forward to taking it camping next summer it might even go with me on a winter vacation out west this year I guess I have gone a little green as in more Back To Nature for camping because originally I started out with a popup work my way up from small travel trailers to a class C motorhome and now I'm back to the popup again :-) But like you said you can't beat the feeling of it's like you're outdoors in a tent but you're not and you're up off the ground and you can enjoy the scenery and the sound of the nature but you still have your RV conveniences
Hi Richard, Glad you liked the video and especially that you came full circle back to a pop up camper! Thanks for watching and commenting! We hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎅🏻 Mike and Susan 🎄
Thanks for the video. I'm on and off interested in RVs. The trucks and vans are all too high profile hauling around empty space that has absolutely no use until you're parked. And most of the units I see featured at shows are fancy, heavy, expensive and not very smart. I think the industry is stuck (and they just copy each other.) Pop up campers on the other hand were smart back in the 1960s when my neighbors had one and are still smart. The addition of cassette toilets is a huge plus. The prices seem amazingly cheap compared to all other RV campers. Maybe I can haul one when I get a Cybertruck in a couple of years, not sure my Model Y LR can do it. (I barely made it across the Navaho nation between chargers. I live in California were places are a lot farther apart than say back east. This might make a good video topic if you haven't done it already. Let me know and I'll rent a pop up and see how far I can get in California, send you the video.) These units have only three (possible) issues. 1. They're trailers, trailers have a level of complexity (but you don't have to haul around your 'home' after you're set up. 2. You can't use the bathrooms unless you pop it up (a nice convenience but not a deal breaker) and 3. The soft sides need a bit of extra care. (The Sunbrella bimini on my sailboat is 20 years old, but probably needed replacing ten years ago. It's over the cockpit, not my bed.) Alleged negatives: But the bears will break in! They won't bother*, and in some of these you get those huge zipper windows. (A few years ago I realized that I wasn't camping in Ireland, I was in a tunnel that happened to be in Ireland. Now all lightweight backpacking tents have two big mesh sides.) The trend of stealth camping and privacy is in my experience absurd. I've camped in the backs of cars, everywhere, for years with no problems. No one cares, no one looks, and even I'm surprised that in decades, no rangers or cops or anyone have ever tapped on the window. What I'd want with the shower curtains is a way to take the whole thing down to hang it outside to dry (or to shower outside). slot on one side, pivot catch on the other, carry it out... (I've got snap buttons all over my boat - nothing but an aggravation.) *Tip for the critters that gnaw on stuff. Spritz your exposed wires, hoses and tires with ammonia (Windex). This dries but as soon as any critter licks it, it's like licking a bar of soap. Raccoons were chewing up my friend's garden hose. I fixed it, then spritzed it and they've not touched it since -- and the ammonia has to have washed over over the years.
Lots of great information here! Thank you! One good thing with Pop-up campers is that they do have outside shower abilities. We bought a collapsible nylon outdoor enclosure. Works perfect! Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hi Enano, My best advice is to rent an RV or popup BEFORE you buy one! Then you will see what you like and don't like about it so when you are ready to buy you will know what to look for. Also - don't buy new right now. RV sales are through the roof right now and prices are high. In the show notes I have a link you can use to rent an RV from Outdoorsy and you can save $50! Hope that helps you out! Mike
We had pop up with a wet bath and 2 queen beds loved it but I wanted something where you leave bed made and husband didnt like the canvases getting wet we had to take home and set up to dry before storing

I’ve never owned a camper but I’d like to know the max dry weight I should be searching for. I have a Hyundai Santa Fe with a max tow capacity of 3000 lbs. Thanks!
Hey Kevin, We recommend staying below 80% of your max towing capacity. Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤ Mike and Susan BTW, let us know what you think of RV Camping Magazine, our free digital and video magazine! rvblogger.com/rv-camping-magazine/
Hi Tim, Thanks for the suggestion. We started including the weight, and length and my height so people got an idea of size. Maybe at some point we will start including tank sizes in the future too. Thanks for watching and for the suggestion. Mike and Susan
Thanks for posting this..My question is this..I am getting tons of conflicting info regarding towing. My vehichle can pull up to 3500 max range and I am told I can only pull pop up or small bunkhouse such as coleman lantern 16b , wolfpup, jayflight model similiar but then others say no I cannot, I do not want to make wrong choice and experience problems. Also this....if there is no rain to get inside how well does the pop up retain heat or cooling ? and finally if not at a hookup how might I run the features in a pop up such as plugs ac etc with a generator or any solar options??? if I stay within my towing capacity including gear passengers etc will I be ok to tow? some pop ups weigh clpse to same as travel trailers so I am very perplexed on this. if a pop up weighs 2900 & so does a small travel trailer why would I be able to haul one and not other?
Hey Cheryl, You should never tow more than 85% of the tow vehicles capacity. As for the other questions, it would all depend on the camper you have. These may be better answered by a sales person that knows the specifics of that particular RV. :) Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤ Mike and Susan By the way, we hope you will subscribe to our FREE monthly digital/video magazine called RV Camping Magazine. Nice video! On average, how fast do you travel with a trailer on the highway? I was doing a 63MPH but many passerby honked on me. Was I supposed to go faster?
Nice vids! Got a Rockwood freedom pop up. How is water put into the hot water tank? I see where I can fill the potable water, but don't know how 2 get water into the hot water tank. thanx!

Mike & Susan thank you so much for videoing the pop up campers. I did have to start considering them for towing reasons. I already liked the A-liner's as they offer the same as a small trailer like tear drops & mini max's, except the bathroom is not enclosed. However the first A-liner that you showed, kind of had a somewhat enclosed b/r. I just don't like the regular tent pop ups actually because of privacy. I love your very informative videos including pricing and everything, a lot of videos that I watch will not give a price and that is discouraging. Thanks again and Happy Camping until next time. 😁 💗🌳🐕🏡🚙 🌺
Hi Youkie, Hello again!!! Glad you are enjoying the videos! Just an FYI - don't pay the MSRP price - negotiate down from there... Happy Camping to you too! Mike and Susan

I'm interested in the Rockwood A214HW or the A194HW which also has a wet bath. The Aliner is great but the cost is daunting... I still don't understand why campers have microwaves. I really want someone to explain why it's a "great" feature. It's not like you have to heat something up real quick and you're supposed to be more in tune with nature. I barely use the one I have at home to consider lugging one around. Personally I would rather have an oven like the A194HW than a microwave.
Hi Kharizmah, We use our microwave for heating up leftovers, frozen veggies, potatoes and sometimes defrosting meat or chicken. But not everyone uses the microwave. Luckily most microwaves are built in so they don't take up much space. Ironically - we rarely use the oven in our RV. So everyone is different in how they do things - that's what makes the world go round I guess. Thanks for watching and sharing your comment. Mike and Susan

Great job on video! But...Some of these pop ups weight almost as much as my 199 dd Amerilite. 3400 lbs...My question...What's the benefit of a nearly 3k lb. pop up of a traditional trailer that is lightweight?
HI Mr. Bullard, Great question and popup campers and travel trailers are different animals in my opinion. Some folks like popups better and others like travel trailers better. A great compromise is a hybrid camper. Has all the benefits of both. Check out our video about them! ruclips.net/video/imyEGMj1KUA/видео.html Thanks for watching and commenting! For us it was size and amenities. I don't mean glamping. Lol. But bathroom and little bigger kitchen space. We have a Rockwood with a slide out. We also have 7 young grandkids and 2 medium dogs. We can comfortably sleep all of the kids in the pop up and us. The bathroom is needed. A/c is a blessing- no whinning. Lol. And we can tow it with our Chevy Traverse while also fitting the kids.
I think many replace the RV mattress or get a topper. Either way they aren't the most comfortable. Thank you for watching our RV tour video and commenting. We appreciate your support!

Hi sdraper2011, They all do use the space very efficiently and they all have water tanks but I don't know the sizes of them off hand. Thanks for watching the video! Mike
The Aliner despite being twice the cost has the smallest fresh water tank at 11 gallons. All the others are all made by Forest River and have 22-26 gallon fresh water. The Aliner and Forest River models with cassette toilets have no black/grey water tanks. Otherwise, I think they're about 11 gallons.

How do pop-up trailers do in stormy weather? I've been renting space in a sol aire when I go to work and the storms that have come by lately really rock the trailer. We've had hail and 50 mile per hour winds. Would a pop-up hold up?
Was in a really windy rain storm. Our pop up rocked back and forth a little but otherwise did great until a microburst hit the awning and cracked it in half. Our fault for leaving it up. Actual trailer did great.
Would like to hear about the Rockwood HW 296 and the flagstaff HW 29sc. Both have bathrooms and are also pop up campers. I know they're similar but would like to know the differences between them. I've got a family of five so we'll need one with enough sleeping quarters and my wife likes the idea of having walls around the bathroom. I'm interested in possibly purchasing one but would rent one first. Thank you
Hi jdigi202, Those models weren't at the RV Show where we shot this video but I wrote about the Rockwood High Wall and the Flagstaff in a blog article I wrote called 7 Best Pop Up Campers with Bathrooms. Please say hello by leaving a comment below!
Also, please feel free to ask any questions or just tell us about yourselves.
We want to get to know you and share our RV experiences.
Yeah sure thing. Number one rocks!!!!!!.
Glad you like it!

I agree , that first one is amazing, just wish they had a a/c unit instead of a microwave.
I spent many nights in my 76 Apache just like this with my 2 Todders in the early 80s. Easy pull, set up, and take down...even while juggling the babies.❤
I (Susan) had a "99 Starcraft and 2 kids - early 2000's! Great memories ❤️ Thank you for watching our RV tour video and commenting!

I found my perfect pop up. A 2010 Coleman Evolution E4. It has a walled shower/toilet combo. Dinette slide, bigger than normal fridge for a popup and a deck on the front to put our golf cart or motorcycles on. In a little less than two years our retirement adventure starts.
That is awesome!!! Sounds like a great Pop Up camper! Enjoy and safe travels! Thanks for watching and commenting Melissa!

Hi Derek,

Hands down on the first one. Nothing beats a private bathroom!
And it's got really nice unusual lines.

RENT BEFORE YOU BUY.. Best advice ever. Same goes for a car or truck... if you can rent it for a couple days, try it before you buy it..

Thanks, I think we are going to look for used because a lot of people buy a pop up then want something bigger. They go fairly cheap. If it doesn’t have a bathroom, my dad can put one in. We have a flagstaff high wall 27KS. We love it!! Huge for a pop up, but so much fun!
Hi secpac58chichi,

IN 1986 we bought a colman pop up camper made by fleetwood called the plantation model It had a solid wall shower/tub and toliet area and there was even a window in it. Oh how I loved that trailer !! 3 burner stove and oven, refrigerator hot and cold water plus a furness. 26 ft opened gross vehicle weight 2750 pounds gross hitch weight 250 and ofcourse electric brakes. That was pop up luxury !!!!

That was a really great video I loved and enjoyed seeing all the different models that you showed I just recently got a used pop-up camper it is a 1995 Thor Skamper and it has the bathroom in it and shower like the one popup you showed and I'm very much looking forward to taking it camping next summer it might even go with me on a winter vacation out west this year
I guess I have gone a little green as in more Back To Nature for camping because originally I started out with a popup work my way up from small travel trailers to a class C motorhome and now I'm back to the popup again :-)
But like you said you can't beat the feeling of it's like you're outdoors in a tent but you're not and you're up off the ground and you can enjoy the scenery and the sound of the nature but you still have your RV conveniences

I liked the A-FRAME. What is a cassette toilet?
Let me know and I'll rent a pop up and see how far I can get in California, send you the video.)
These units have only three (possible) issues.
(I've got snap buttons all over my boat - nothing but an aggravation.)
*Tip for the critters that gnaw on stuff.

Thank you so much for the info. Very helpful. Me and wifey thinking of getting one but don’t know where to start. Thank you for the help.
Hi Enano,
My best advice is to rent an RV or popup BEFORE you buy one!

Hey Cheryl,
You should never tow more than 85% of the tow vehicles capacity. As for the other questions, it would all depend on the camper you have. These may be better answered by a sales person that knows the specifics of that particular RV. :)

Apache made by StarCraft. Wish I still had it.
Hi Kharizmah,
We use our microwave for heating up leftovers, frozen veggies, potatoes and sometimes defrosting meat or chicken. But not everyone uses the microwave. Luckily most microwaves are built in so they don't take up much space. Ironically - we rarely use the oven in our RV. So everyone is different in how they do things - that's what makes the world go round I guess.
Thanks for watching and sharing your comment.

But...Some of these pop ups weight almost as much as my 199 dd Amerilite. 3400 lbs...My question...What's the benefit of a nearly 3k lb. pop up of a traditional trailer that is lightweight?
Looking at getting one. What I can tell you is.. storage and tow visibility. I have a large property however, housing a large RV may be too much
HI Mr. Bullard,
Great question and popup campers and travel trailers are different animals in my opinion. Some folks like popups better and others like travel trailers better. A great compromise is a hybrid camper. Has all the benefits of both. Check out our video about them!

Do most owners replace their bed mattresses?
I think many replace the RV mattress or get a topper. Either way they aren't the most comfortable. Thank you for watching our RV tour video and commenting. We appreciate your support!
One thing you didn't mention! Hot cold water. What size gallon tank 🤔 is installed in that pop up ?
Hey Paul,
Is there a specific pop-up that you were asking about?

Hi. I did not know Pop Ups had bathrooms. Isn't there some state parks that don't allow Pop Ups. Thanks for another Great Video!
Hi Deborah,
Popup campers have come a long way!
There are National, State and Private campgrounds located in bear country that don't allow popup campers.
Thanks for watching the video!
Mike and Susan
What is the reason some places do not allow pop ups?
Carlos A campgrounds in bear country don’t allow soft sided campers like popup campers for fear of bears.
But these are hard walled would they be allowed like a A frame
@@RVBlogger I always found that funny because those same places allow tent camping.
I’ve been eyeing up the rock wood 214 for about a year now. Hopefully when I go to buy my camper, that’s the one I get.
Hi Kimberly,
Let us know what you end up buying! The Rockwood 214 is really nice.

My husband and I have a pop up camper and love it. The problem be is that we are older and my husband has a hard time lifting the top. Is there anything we could buy to make the top lift up automatically?
Hi Phillip,
There is a popup power lift for sale on Amazon that I found. Here is the link. It runs on a 12v battery.

Pop up campers are hard to come by these days I’m looking for one with a wet bath!
Hi Robert,
RVs and popups are selling like crazy right now so inventory is low everywhere! Try searching Facebook Marketplace and RVTrader maybe.

new to rving here, i have a question, do some of these carry more water than others?
Hey Builderman,
Yes, a camper/RV's holding capacity is a good thing to look at when buying a camper. :)

Hey Origami and Cats

I'd only buy a hard side camper. Many camper locations in California do not allow soft side campers anymore due to animal attacks.

I am renovating my own pop up camper and I want one of these in it. What is the toilet/shower system called or where can I buy one?
Hi James,
I have looked all over the place and I can't find a kit you can buy for a shower in a pop up camper. You can buy the parts and pieces but I haven't been able to find the shower base that includes a spot for a toilet to make a wet bath. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

Impressive use of space in these. Do they have water tanks, if so how many gallons?
Hi sdraper2011,
They all do use the space very efficiently and they all have water tanks but I don't know the sizes of them off hand.
I'd like to know which of the model WITH a toilet (and shower, can be outdoor) are SMALL....? Ideally under 15'. Thanks.
Hi there! We have the weight and length listed as we intro each camper plus I created a time stamp so you can easily find the intro and see what the length is.
Hope that helps!

Hi Jarrell,

Pups that are full featured cost more than small travel trailers. You gotta really like a pup or need the sleeping capacity to enjoy one.
I think they are not allowed near habitats that have bears since they can easily rip through the canvas.
You are correct!

How do pop-up trailers do in stormy weather? I've been renting space in a sol aire when I go to work and the storms that have come by lately really rock the trailer. We've had hail and 50 mile per hour winds. Would a pop-up hold up?
Hi De Maria,
Pop ups are scary in stormy weather. They are even lighter than travel trailers so they move around quite a bit in heavy winds.
Mike
i rode out a gale force storm,with 60 mh gust,nasty rain,in a 2001 popup camper.it rode it out....like a champ
Thank you
Hi jdigi202,
Those models weren't at the RV Show where we shot this video but I wrote about the Rockwood High Wall and the Flagstaff in a blog article I wrote called 7 Best Pop Up Campers with Bathrooms.
