A few years ago Dick Nolan's son, Mike, who coached the 49ers, had to get approval from the NFL to wear his suit in honor of his Dad, who also coached the 49ers. Can you believe that? The NFL used to be a lot more fun and easy going. They are so into the marketing of their NFL gear everything just gets lost.

      @christophergraves6725 11 дней назад

      @@501Hoggin12 No, Landry did not have to be fired. Just because the previous owner, Bum Bright, had bad judgement does not justify Jones firing Landry. But, in any case, even if Jones wanted his own man in as coach, viz. Jerry Johnson, that is all right. Jones did not have to fire Landry unceremoniously to do so. He could have met with Landry privately and made it clear that Landry should retire and allow him to exit gracefully and then pay homage to Landry's greatness as a coach and as a man. Jones later said that he regretted how abruptly he treated Landry.
      Landry's record as coach in comparison with Jones as the owner finds that Landry's winning percentage and trips to the playoffs were higher than has been Jones' record on performance given the same number of years since their association with the team- and that includes the first years of the Cowboys when they were an expansion team with Landry at the helm. Jones' teams were somewhat more successful in Super Bowl wins. If you want to say that Landry's record at the end declined and that would justify his firing, then if we applied the same logic to Jones then he should go and should have gone a number of years ago.

    It was a sad ending and it did not have to go down that way. The demise of the Cowboys near the end of Tom Landry’s tenure was not his fault. Dallas kept drafting for positions instead of talent, and there was very little to no talent at the positions they were seeking to fill those voids with. Some great talented players slipped past them, which proves the point that in draft day, teams should go after the most talented player available instead of a position the team has a weakness in.
