He's not trying to coach, he just wants to control everything. He's unwilling to bring in experts who can draft, experts who can coach, and experts who can discipline. This team is very poorly disciplined. They know that Jerry has the final say, so they don't fear getting cut by a coach. Jerry needs to hire a strong coach, get the F out of his way, and let the man bring him championships!

Jerry Jones is a modern day Al Davis (of whom I think Jerry was an admirer). His method achieved great success in the beginning but at some point it all falls apart. Because whenever an owner has too much control over the day to day football operation it's bound to fall apart.

Ehhh I mean not many owners can say they had as much success with their teams as much as Jerry has. I think the message here is pride comes before a fall. It’s so easy to become prideful and arrogant when everything is going great that you forget everything and everyone that got you there because you start thinking you were the only reason for the success. The fall of man makes you rethink everything. I think we all go through that falling state, it’s just it took Jerry damn near 30 years to actually get it lol.

it is now their time. And you and I know after watching football for 50 years you start to see the weaknesses and "they don't fix it" and it then shows up in the end. I bet heavy on GB because SF showed me that Dallas had no run defense, Bills too, and they did not fix and I bet on Aaron Jones to run rapid Also Dallas front and LB's are to small for running teams. Everybody banged the table how good their

Seen this ten thousand times on jobs. Instead of owners, supervisors, and managers staying in their lane and teaching and coaching, they punish, bully, fire, and write up people to their own detriment. Hire the best to do the job, then get out of the way. Micromanaging kills organizations.

It’s even more absurd when micromanagers at firms don’t have a widely known reputation for being bad managers and luck out by hiring one of the best and brightest only to have that person quit and take a similar gig at a competitor all because said owner/micromanager was too ‘busy’ and unavailable. This of course is after the new hire becomes frustrated when no one will show them the processes and ways to efficiently do things as is the norm for that particular firm. Said managers also are usually Ill tempered and often resort to yelling obscenities, especially so if they are women.

IMO, Steve Young could not win a Superbowl until Switzer took over. Jimmy was a coach who always upped the standard and pushed his players to greatness. But taking a team to multiple Superbowls takes its toll and when you have a meddling owner the pressure can get to you. Bill Walsh also retired a few years early because of the pressure of winning.

The 91-95 Cowboys won because they had the best offensive line in the league and one of the best defensive lines in the league. The lesson of this was never learned and never even acknowledged. The short resurgence when Parcells arrived was because he reemphasized the lines. But when he left the lines were ignored again. The Cowboys got lucky in 2016 and they ended up with the best offensive line in the league and Elliott had his best year but the O-line was allowed to fade again, so the Cowboys faded again.

When the team or the coaches get more attention than he does he interferes in order to bring the spotlight back on himself. His ego leads him to believe he knows better than everyone else. Cowboys fans deserve better.

I find it interesting that they talked about how insular the front office is for the team today and how they don't listen to outside voices. Ironically that is what killed the Landry Era Cowboys as well. At one point they were innovative in a way that nobody else had been and they were doing things that nobody else had done and Landry taught and invented defensive and offensive schemes and sets that nobody else had ever done. And then they stopped innovating and they refused to bring in outside help in the scouting department and on the coaching staff and the first thing that it tanked was the draft classes that were coming in and then it started causing problems in the offensive and defensive sets.
The difference between then and now is that Landry and Schramm and Brandt recognized that they had a big problems and were starting to take steps to try and fix things. You see that when they hired Paul Hackett to come in and run the offense in 86. Before Danny broke his wrist in week 9 that year Dallas had the number one rated offense in the league. Of course Pelleur put an end to that. The last draft of the Landry Era produced a HOF player in Irvin a multiyear Pro Bowler in Ken Norton Jr and a solid multiyear defensive lineman in Chad Henning. Other players were already on hand as well like Kevin Gogan and Nate Newton who would help anchor that offensive line in the 90s. I'm not saying they were going to take the team back to the Super Bowl but I am saying they were trying to change.
Now though.... Jerry just keeps doing the same shit over and over again and expecting a better result. That's the definition of insanity. It's also the mark of a leader without his own creativity or ability to innovate.

5 Super Bowls at the minimum. 92-95, and 98. Maybe a repeat in 99. Dallas almost went to, and would have won, the Super Bowl in 94, and Jimmy would have drafted Randy Moss.
The one thing that Jimmy staying would not have stopped would be down years in 1996 and 1997. Regardless if Jimmy had left or not, the one thing that he wouldn't have prevented is injuries. More specifically the big injuries that hurt Dallas for the 96 and 97 season were TE Jay Novacek's back injury, causing him to miss all of 96 and retire after that, and Emmitt's various injuries during those 2 years. The "370 Rule" was eventually going to catch up to Emmitt, regardless if Jimmy stayed or not.
But nonetheless Jimmy would have drafted Moss, and that would have gotten Dallas back to being an elite offense at the end of the 90s. The ironic thing is that if you go look at the 98 Cowboys offense's stats and compare that to the 97 Vikings, they are very similar. From PPG to individual offensive stats they are very close to each other. Moss would have done the same thing for Dallas as what he did for the Vikings.
Regarding the other side of the ball, the defense was actually good for the rest of the decade, giving up only 15 ppg in 96, and 17 ppg in 98 and 99. They didn't need much more help, though Jimmy getting Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor to Dallas would had made them that much better.

@@briancusack4386 that is a very good point. He did pass on him by trading the 19th pick away while Moss was still on the Board.
I think doing that was the move that Johnson did with thinking of the best interest of the Dolphins. They had already drafted a WR in the 1st Round a year prior in 97, so probably didn't feel the need to draft another WR in the 1st Round two years in a row.
I think if Johnson was still in Dallas then he would have made the move that would have been in the best interest of the Cowboys, and I believe that would have been him drafting Moss.

This guy went all the way around the barn yard to explain what happened! Jerry already openly admitted years later that he ruined that dynasty because when he saw all of the success that Jimmy was having with the team, he wanted to be directly involved in that success. And that’s when Jerry started crossing the line between coach and owner. He stepped on Jimmy’s toes. Why?…..because he could. You know the old saying……just because you can….doesn’t always mean you should. Had Jerry just stayed in his lane and let Jimmy coach the team, who knows how many championships they could have won.

This explains a lot about Jerry Jones…. After 8 or 9 head coaches and almost as many QB’s and who knows how many great running backs, there is only one position that has been there all along…. The GM, Jerry Jones. He is too stupid to realize he is the biggest problem. If he had a manager running one of his projects, he would get rid of the guy ASAP with this type of track record. We are dealing with a rich snot nose owner who could never make it as a football player, so he bought a team. To bad it was one in Texas…. The Cowboys will never win a Super Bowl because Jerry will cause to much interference…
Give the fans a break Jerry retire and let someone who knows what they are doing run things….

Jerry Jones made his mistakes, but the agitating thing is that he has repeatedly been making the same mistakes. Legendary coaches Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells brought a big importance on bringing in guys were were durable, upright citizens, and had a knack for never quitting on a play. These are reasons why they collectively played in almost 20 championship games, 10 Super Bowls, and winning 6 of them, not to mention the ‘95-96 Cowboys that won on the team Jimmy Johnson built. Always the bargain Hunter without any sense of what is going on, Jerry has a knack of drafting guys that have dropped significantly in the draft, basically ignoring the reason(s) why. Guys who are injury prone or who have off the field issues are guys good coaches shy away from, but not Jerry. The only time he ever shied away from a talent with some issues was when he passed up on Randy Moss. But he hit on everyone else. And they in turn have missed more games than they played. Another issue with Jerry is that he is not honest with the talent on his teams. Always a below average team, Jerry fools himself into thinking they are just one player away, and chooses to give up the future for one marginal player at best, and the end result is this team still cannot get past the wildcard game. The team has no identification on either offense or defense. Is the defense quick, fast, strong, aggressive, intimidating? They have one good talent on each level of the defense, has not been able to stop the run with a secondary that is still a liability, and that defense is better than the offense. The offense doesn’t do anything unless they are playing against a real shitty team or are already getting blown out, to which the defense plays it’s pass prevent defense, allowing easy throws to wide open receivers under the zone. On the OL, there is just one proven veteran. Other than Martin, the only other talent is WR Cee Dee Lamb, and even he drops too many passes. Despite a cream puff schedule and playing in the worst division in the NFL, I don’t think this team can win more than 8 games this year, and Jerry Jones is still contemplating trading future first round picks for an OL who would probably get injured, miss the rest of the season, which means Dallas will once again give up a high first round pick for absolutely nothing. It would be the typical Jerry Jones undisciplined move that we’ve all come to hate.

As a longtime Cowboys fan / follower, Jimmy Johnson leaving the Cowboys after the 1994 Super Bowl was classic - self-destruction. The Cowboys have never been the same since. The only thing I question is: Jimmy Johnson does not stay in positions for very long. I question whether he can be trusted over the long term as being dependable.

Even all the people I’ve had to listen to for decades that said Jerry ruin the Cowboys when he fired Jimmy., None of them has ever mentioned Jerry saying he could find 500 coaches to do with Jimmy can do. It has to be one of the most disrespectful things I’ve ever heard in my entire life.

Jerry made the mistake of thinking the same formula will work every year. Jimmy Johnson got lucky on his draft picks since most of them lived up to the hype which is rare and the schemes Jimmy was running at the time with Norv Turner had only been used in college when he was a coordinator so it was at least a unique look at the time with a group of players hand picked to run that system.

Also Jimmy pulled off the greatest trade in nfl history. He traded for half the Viking defense and gave up Hershel Walker and a few late round picks. The next season I think five ex bikes started for big D. Allowing the boys to spend about all their first year picks on building the offense. That was before Jerry got jealous and ran the smart guy off. Then makes the even dumber move of thinking he could be a GM. Gotta admit they draft a lot better since he let his son and the coaches take that over.

If Jerry’s ego didn’t get in the way and let Jimmy continue to keep things running the way he saw fit, I’m convinced Dallas would’ve won at least 2 if not 3 more Super Bowls. They were that good. This is coming from a packer fan who detests the cowboys but I’m gonna give credit to where it is due.
