I love getting to learn more about Chilchuck😂 It so hard to pick a favorite character for this show cause I love whoever is on the screen at the moment XD I'm also having a great time with all your shipping ideas and plot theories. I won't say more for fear of spoilers but I'm really excited for future discussions 😍
a note, I think you got a lil confused regarding the taste of the food, I believe he said he *though* it might taste like paint, but when he tried it it was actually tasty ahahaha
YES! My absolute favorite episode! :D I love the paintings, I love the little agressive elve that apears in all of them, and to top it off the secound half is Chilchuck focused! This episode has all my favorite things! ^^ Speaking of the paintings and the elve, this episode imidiately catapulted that character right to the top of my "fav-characters" list, where they share the number one spot with Chilchuck! And we had only, what? 3 Minutes of screen time with them? xD They captivated me so much, that I even posted on my instagram, directly after watching the episode, that there is no way that's a one off character! I watched this and was like "I NEED them to come back! There is SO MUCH potential here!" The paintings itself are such an interesting concept. Are they just like "recordings" of past events? Is Laios interacting with them in the way one would interact with a video game, where it would reset to the status quo if he "restarts" it by trying the same portrait twice? Or is he traveling back in time? Would interacting with the portraits auromatically alter the memories of the people portraied in them, if they where still alive? Or is there no actual conection between the paintings and the people shown in them? So many questions, so little answers! >.< But enough about the paintings, let's talk Chilchuck! :3 I love that he admits to having a soft spot for Treassure bugs, just becouse they are pretty and kind of cute, while also absolutely despaising Mimiks, despite them not beeing that different in theorie xD And that chase scene in that locked room? SOOO tense! And so bad ass! That aside: the freaking DISRESPECT of Senshi and Laios using Chiclckus tools as eating utensils! That stuff is a thiefs/locksmiths pride! As someone who always plays the thiev classes in table tops, that scene had me shocked in secound hand offense! And Chilchuck was so against it too, Senshi literally held him back trying to stop Laios! T.T Honestly? Rewatching this show...I kind of start to develop a mild dislike for Senshi? xD I get it, he's everyones gentle "giant", the fav. But his low key hypocritical behaviour? His disrespect towards Chilchuck specifically?! It's low key starting to piss me off xD Maybe it's just becouse I like Chilchuck so much, or it's becouse I can personaly relate to the pain of not beeing taken serious becouse I look younger than I am, but damn! It actually is starting to make Senshi slowly slip down to the verry end of my character ranking list! I haven't read the manga, but I really hope that a time will come where Senshi learns to REALLY respect Chilchuck. On a completely different note: now that you mentioned it with your "Marcile finally woke up" comment, it's interesting that Chilchuck had, all things considered, pretty little faith in her coming to his aid. He fully expected her to fall- and stay asleep. Pair that with our little comment-convo we had two or so episodes ago, where we speculated why it is that Laios can distinguish footsteps better than Chilchuck, who has better senses, and there might be an interesting case to be made about Chilchuck trusting Laios more than he trusts Marcille, and why that might be. Definitely something I'll have to keep an eye out for, while rewatching the show through you! All in all, a great reaction to a great episode! ^^ I'll see you in the next one!
The paintings are such a fun world building concept! I am not going to talk about the elf and beyond what I said in the discussion because I want to stay 100% blind and not read into anything, but I hope we see them again - we shall see! I love the Chilchuck focus in this episode, though! I love getting little bits with his character in this! And the TENSION - there was a lot of intense moments in this episode! But seriously, poor Chilchuck having his tools used as chopsticks, practically! Our poor thief! I honestly don’t dislike Senshi, but he is very set in his ways - I like that it shows there’s no “paragon” character…except…well…maybe Laios or Falin so far, haha! But I can see why he would rub you the wrong way, though, so valid! Especially because he’s VERY different from your favorite! Thanks for the comment and kind words!
Everything in this show makes so much sense logically it just scratches my brain just right,, from the mimic treasure bug situation to chilchuck holding the water bag to add weight,, I just love it!! Also uhh yeah interesting theories...🤭
Not a spoiler, but Chilchuck really is 29. In Japanese, '30' doesn't start with the 'th' sound (like in 'this' or 'thirty'), so he probably just hesitated when saying it. I'm pretty sure this won't be mentioned again in the story, just thought I'd point it out!
I have a question. Is it alright if I share info in the comments I get from manga extras? There are things like character ages, info about the different races and extra monster tidbits that might be interesting but I’m not sure what your line is in terms of sharing non-anime info
If it is information that the anime is at one point going to tell me, then I do NOT want to read about in the comments and will have mods flag it. I want to discover this information as the show presents it to me. Now, if it is something that the manga and anime itself will NEVER BRING UP, then it's okay. But only then. Thank you for asking!

It really is fun to see how the worldbuilding and narrative goes together in this series! Thank you for the comment!

I will talk about this in a later episode! Thanks!
the average lifespan of a half-foot in dungeon meshi is about 50, so technically that makes chilchuck a middle aged and the vibes check out 100%
I think this is considered a spoiler because we will find that out later

@ thank you! I will do my best to make sure the anime has touched on the subject already before sharing extra fun facts
