I had an unusual moment of something in another show relating to this anime this week, one plot involved one of the main characters having to adopt his maternal half-brother. There's a 20+ year age gap between them, and the little brother is a child, who has taken to calling the older brother papa-bro after the adoption. The old brother tells his husband he needs a better nickname. This has seared the idea of Jinshi calling the emperor papa-bro in a chibi segment in my brain.

Also kudos for taking so many details in, I know from my experience and from what I've seen in other reaction videos that it's confusing af in the beginning. People would even go later episodes and be like whaaa, whooo, hooow... But some stuff is literally explained in the beginning if you pay attention.

Our quack doctor says that she went missing recently. So she wasn't pretending to be Jin all the time, she just went there when Jinshi visited once a month

Quick note, the book Ailan was copying was the novel given by the Emperor, not the sex book. I'm guessing you mixed them together in the moment without noticing, but in case you didn't here you go. As for Lady Shin, I'm not convinced her absence during Lihua's illness is all that strange. Sure, from what we know of Hongniang we can assume that if Gyokuyou was in Lihua's place she would not leave her side. But for all that Shin and Hongniang hold the same position their actual workload is probably very different. Consider that the head lady in waiting is in charge of the other ladies is waiting and the servants. At the Jade Pavilion that leaves Hongniang in charge of four people and while that means they must do the servants work as well it's less to keep track of. Meanwhile the Crystal Pavilion has about thirty ladies in waiting and servants combined, all of which Shin is in charge of. The workdays probably look very different. Besides maybe she feels uncomfortable around sick people, or with watching someone die, or who knows maybe she's laughing maniacally in the corner. (this is a joke) And just because I find power/relationship dynamics interesting, have some more rambles. As for the other Head ladies in waiting we have Fengming for Ah Duo, (unknown) for Lishu and (no clue) for Loulan. Fengming as far as we know is the one closest in personality with Hongniang, both being older women remaining at their consorts sides due to loyalty and not opposed to working with their hands, does this mean I think Hongniang would commit murder for Gyokuyou, absolutely, will she? No clue. As for Loulan's head lady, as far as I know we haven't seen her, but considering she's in charge of fifty people, poor woman is probably swamped with work. We also haven't seen Lishu's that I know of, but considering what we know of Lishu's other ladies in waiting we can conclude that she is either ineffective and not doing her job of controlling the other ladies properly or the other ladies are following her example when it comes to mistreating Lishu. Thinking on it now, it appears that the character of the head lady in waiting says a lot about the behavior of the people under her, perhaps because they are following her example or she is likely to be the person in charge of hiring more people and will thus chose likeminded people. Maybe this comment got a bit long. I feel a bit bad about that. Also all of the above are theories or thoughts other than the obvious facts that they are based around.

Fun fact: the mangaka of dandadan self taught himself drawing and when he got in the manga industry his schedule was starting at 10am and off the clock at 5 am. At one point he was both the assistant of hell’s paradise and chainsaw man at the same time, so he can draw fast and very detailed. One of the best things about dandadan arts and panels is that it will almost has a double page spread weekly.

Sorta unrelated, but remember the Stranger by the Shore Yaoi movie? The animators that worked on that film animated a short 1 minute long Land of the Lustrous anime back in 2013. So if ur curious as to how Land of the Lustrous would look as a 2D animated anime I highly recommend checking it out.

Whoever is in charge of the audio for this show, they did an excellent job with the beautiful transition between the doorbell and the final musical theme. The show never disappoints, the execution of the finer details are always excellent!

Momo, as a character, is very sure of herself and who she is, she's confident, bold and I'm assuming popular in school (based on how she shut those bullies up by sitting next to okarun). I really like this about her, but it also means that the contrast of more timid and unsure of himself Okarun, who is painfully insecure, is more obvious. I think by taking away his given identity/persona and his banana (lmfao) which ties into his masculinity, they're gonna let him explore who he really is beyond a social identity, either of gender or imposed stereotypes on him as a lame otaku who is always bullied. Which also makes me wonder what journey it'll take Momo on, since she is already pretty well rounded.

Natsume looked sooo pretty in the purple garments. I also share your conflicted feelings about the Natsume/Natori ship. Their dynamic would truly be perfect if Natsume was older, but then I remember he's NOT and I just can't do it lol. I really do love their canon relationship though and how much they both have grown in different ways since meeting each other. Also really appreciate how much you dislike Natsume/Matoba because I can't stand that man or that ship 💀

Season 3 focused on our trio of Natsume Tanuma and Taki and introducing Matoba while season 4 is deepening the relationships whether its between Tanuma and Natsume or Natsume and Natori. While I dont ship Natori and Natsume I do love how sassy Natori gets around Natsume and Natsume is alot more sarcastic and cheeky with Natori around. This mini-adventure is one of my favorites for the Natsume-Natori duo and Hiiragi continues to be an intriguing character in the midst of all the chaos. Last episode with Nanase there was a bit of discussion concerning the whole thing of duty and the natural order in this world. It seems that Natori while he is a an exceptional exorcist is also someone who is powerless to the hierarchy of the exorcist world and in this episode is asked to challenge that natural order because of the mistake of another exorcist. Natori throughout this series sometimes get borderline impossible or very dangerous jobs which makes me wonder if he is sort of the convenient clean up guy everyone goes to when things are a bit tough because then if he fails then they can just blame him and damage his reputation. I might just be thinking way too hard about it and it may be more out of respect for his talent that he is asked to deal with situations such as sealing deities and sealing powerful water spirits like Kai in season 2. I guess my point is that this mission was a complex one from the start with how Natori is brought in. The youkai live for a long time and mention that the deity that brings prosperity has never lost so no one has really experienced the consequences of him losing and Im sure they certainly wouldnt want to. The term -gami at the end of anything in Japanese means its a deity a common one is Tsukigami which is moon deity or goddess. I must say that the most common edit you'll find of Natsume is that moment with him in the tree from this episode and the moment where he meets Hinoe and is using the scroll to choose a protector. Those two moments trend alot on social media and are really badass moments for our boy. Its kind of funny because in episode 5 of this season middle school Natsume felt like a bad boy because he was so distant and its moments like that and him being so firm and authoritative that hits different because we're so used to how sweet he is. I totally agree with your outlook on the differences between Tanuma and Natori and how they interact with Natsume. Natsume is alot more apprehensive when it comes to involving Tanuma in youkai stuff because he is limited in ways to protect himself while Natsume does worry about Natori he feels secure that Natori has his shiki/yokai followers plus skills as an exorcist to protect himself. However, Natori because he never got over his own feelings caused by being able to see youkai pushed everyone away and while he can encourage Natsume not to give up like in the last two parter Tanuma is really the one Natsume opens up to in regards to his emotional turmoil. I have quite a few youkai-human ships in Natsume Yuujincho the top one being Natori and Hiiragi. Hiiragi got to listen to Natori as a child with all of his doubts and insecurities regarding being a source of negativity. While they got separated they're now back together and as I mentioned last two parter Hiiragi sees a young Natori in Natsume and want Natori to be healthy and trusting of others especially trusting of youkai to an extent like Natsume and I feel that it would be very reminiscent of how they met if that soft and caring nature of Natori does come out. I really like how far Natori has come in the series. I think he has softened even if its subtle and he is fully aware of Natsume's nature which allows for great moments like him making it clear that Natsume shouldnt endanger himself and therefore establishing that he will deal with any youkai that would put him in danger along with knowing that because Natsume is kind he makes sure our boy is not being bamboozled and proceeds to confront the white hats. Natsume really overworked himself this two-parter but it had a satisfying conclusion and him visiting Natori and checking up on Hiiragi is cute. Well time to go stock up on some comfort food and tissues for the finale to come because it will be quite an emotional ride.

I'm genuinely flabbergasted that you haven't seen this already, what a great reaction. XD This is probably my second favorite Chinese BL drama (The Untamed of course beating out all others) and get ready because the censors were absolutely asleep for this one. I'm really glad you seem to be enjoying so far and I have the same reaction whenever I see Zhou Zishu, who gave him the right to look like that. The lore dumping in this show can be a lot but if you pay attention it can reward you later on, so I'm excited with how many things you're clocking right off the bat and the things that you're wildly speculating on, lol. This was the first time I've watched the ep in its entirety in a while, so it was a lot of fun to revisit with you. Great video and looking forward to more.

If there's one thing Link Click is great at, it's creating final scenes in episodes to build excitement. The final scene in ep1 is excellent and makes you really want to watch the rest of the series, while the end of the finale makes you want to watch the next season! Having now finished binging your first season reaction, I can't wait to watch you in season 2!

I want to point out that the OP is covered in Ultraman references, and that carries over to the series itself -The monsters are presented with Ultraman-esqe title cards -Momo delivers a high kick and it freezes in a way that her dangling earring resembles Ultraman's eye, transforming her into an Ultraman like figure -The Banana Aliens design wise as I understand are a couple of minor Ultraman aliens mashed togather. They also reference Ultraman's famous Beam attack

I don't see Ken being emasculated as a plot point to make him safe for Momo--I see it as a very specific and horrifically humorous plot point for Ken's character and identity development--Ken starting a journey to understand and develop his own sense of masculine identity. Most/all of the images of masculinity in episode 1 are pretty toxic, so it is kind of fitting to start the story for Ken from square one with a literal search for his masculine parts. It sort of asks the basic question of what makes a man (I assume it takes more than just a penis as Ken has not stopped acting like or being treated as male even though he is missing his). Momo may be an important companion on this journey and can hopefully help shape a more grounded and well-rounded sense of masculine identify for Ken, but I assume this will be a part of Ken's journey in the series. Hopefully Momo will have a parallel journey with Ken as a companion.

Yes, Momo and Okarun are really cute together, this is like a "law" in the fandom. But I literally didn't remembered this show to be this creepy it was giving Jjk, mob and uzumaki all at once it's crazy 😂 Also idk is you watch dub but I highly recommend waching it in your own time or maybe making a seperate video of some moments of it. Trust me it's worth it 😂

One note about the author of this manga: He kept pitching manga ideas to his editor, and kept getting shot down because they had cool powers but no interesting character relationships, until in the end, the editor forced him into Shoujo Boot Camp - the editor told Yukinobu Tatsu that he wasn't allowed to pitch any more new ideas until he read 100 romance mangas from start to finish. Tatsu read 100 romance manga and immediately pitched Dandadan, and got greenlit.
