Funnily enough, after MXTX, this was the first Danmai I looked into (along with Guardian, which is another one I'd recommend after Word of Honour - its also written by Priest). I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did! I'm so happy that the first episode has you so excited. I've heard that this show had a fairly low budget (I think the Untamed had a bigger one), but they milked that budget for everything that it's worth and made such an amazing series that you can feel the passion for through all the actors involved. So yes, super happy to see you react to this one and looking forward to your thoughts and theories going forward :)

Also kudos for taking so many details in, I know from my experience and from what I've seen in other reaction videos that it's confusing af in the beginning. People would even go later episodes and be like whaaa, whooo, hooow... But some stuff is literally explained in the beginning if you pay attention.

Ah yes, the episode one lore dump in typical c-drama fashion! This show's style absolutely leans towards older Chinese wuxia drama, some of the camera work and dialogue delivery are just so DAMN DRAMATIC and I love it lmao
It is so interesting and fun for me, someone born and raised in China, to see all the cultural shock that I thought were easy to understand, and I can't wait for you to get more mind blown XD But one thing we can all agree on is how perfect Zhou Zishu is, that man is FINE!
I do recommend Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon if you haven't seen it yet and want to dive deeper into the wuxia genre in the future; it is THE hallmark wuxia movie, and, in my opinion, very friendly to people who aren't that familiar with Chinese culture/wuxia tropes!

the first time i watched word of honor and wen kexing appeared on my screen i had to pause the video and just stare at him in amazement cuz he's such a stunningly beautiful man. The amount of times i had to go back cuz i was too busy staring at the beautiful people to read the subtitle is uncountable 😂 😂

Word of Honor is classic wuxia. And the fighting style reflects that. The Untamed is xianxia.
The drama managed to look really great in spite of the extremely low budget. You will notice the not so subtle ads but it's thanks to the walnuts company that we even have this drama.
I am glad you enjoyed the first episode as much as you did.
WoH is one of my favourite Chinese censored BLs.
Hopefully you will get to watch other danmei adaptations.

I am glad you are starting one of my favourite cdrama word of honor. I discovered this series accidentally when it was airing 13th ep and had to wait for the next ep. while waiting for this series I decided to give a chance to untamed and fell into the rabbit hole of danmeis. Infact you could say woh is the pioneer series which started a whole new journey in my life, which made me discover various literatures,slice of life angsty stories,masterpieces etc.🥹
Hope you continue reading danmeis as I love your thoughts and theories sooo much. May I recommend you some danmeis, Married thrice to salted fish, Dumb husky and his white cat shizun(2ha). These two danmeis are really good.

I love this series so much, I'm incredibly excited to see your reactions to it! Word of Honor is great, I love it. I was similarly captivated by Zhang Zhehan's beauty since the beginning, he's incredibly handsome. I love Priest as an author, she's amazing!This adaptation is just perfect in my opinion, I think you'll enjoy both it and the novel very much!!!
I'll list some other danmei series, that weren't on the poll, but are so worth checking out in my opinion, (zero spoilers, only titles)
1. Mo Du (Silent Reading) - also a novel by Priest, it has a drama too, called "Justice in the Dark".
2. Kaleidoscope of Death - an incredible novel by Yi Zi Xu that has an incredible drama called "The Spirealm".
3. Guardian - also a novel by Priest with a great drama with the same name

Priest is my favourite Danmei Author. She has lots of amazing novels that I hope you will get to read in the future as well.

I'm genuinely flabbergasted that you haven't seen this already, what a great reaction. XD This is probably my second favorite Chinese BL drama (The Untamed of course beating out all others) and get ready because the censors were absolutely asleep for this one. I'm really glad you seem to be enjoying so far and I have the same reaction whenever I see Zhou Zishu, who gave him the right to look like that. The lore dumping in this show can be a lot but if you pay attention it can reward you later on, so I'm excited with how many things you're clocking right off the bat and the things that you're wildly speculating on, lol. This was the first time I've watched the ep in its entirety in a while, so it was a lot of fun to revisit with you. Great video and looking forward to more.
I don't know whether this counts as a spoiler or just clarifying facts that would keep you from being too confused in your theory-crafting, so I'll put this down here for the mods to check!
Unlike MXTX's works that fall into the xianxia (fantasy cultivation) genre, Word of Honor and Faraway Wanderers' genre is wuxia (martial arts)--which means it doesn't have high fantasy elements like ghosts, fairies, or gods. The martial arts is taken to a fantastical level, of course, but otherwise it is much more "realistic" than xianxia.
For me, a show's genre isn't a spoiler. For the writers of this show and the Chinese audience, the true nature of the Ghosts of Mount Qingya isn't meant to be part of any big reveal or surprise since the genre speaks for itself. However, since Romania is unfamiliar with this genre, and how particular she is about letting the story speak for itself and letting her be surprised, this may end up counting as a spoiler for her, and I just want to be sure.
Only one member of the cast was in The Untamed, and he only appeared for about 5 minutes in it. We haven't met him yet in Word of Honor.

In general, I think there’s a lot of cultural implication. The Chinese youtuber Avenue X did review the drama with some cultural and literary context (poetry). Personally, I don’t remember the details T_T but maybe there is someone who can tell you when it happens, or it could be worth checking out after if you want!
At first, for the synchronisation, I heard you in double and it was weird. Then, my internet couldn’t handle the double videos sometimes, so I did have to re-sync. Me and my cursed rural internet T_T

Fun fact: the voice actor for Wen Kexing also voiced Jiang Cheng in The Untamed so if you close your eyes you can imagine Jiang Cheng saying all his lines which is...certainly an interesting experience lol
I had to rewatch this drama a couple times to fully get what happened and how it all connects. The plot itself isn't too confusing but a lot of things only make sense on second watch and sometimes it's a little hard to keep track of all the side/minor characters who end up being somewhat important.
That said I love Word of Honor so much, I even slightly prefer it over The Untamed although TU is definitely the overall better show. Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing give me life and you haven't even met my favourite character yet. I can't wait for you to get further into it

She even talk about Zishu angst herself in the description, where I didn’t tell what kind of angst or what character it’s all about. The talking about censorship is a loose one too. It didn’t spoil a thing what, where, when. It’s actually my own perception of the drama, not the description of it.
