That baby orc really is just the absolute cutest! We're getting in to the perfect weather for that vegetable stew where i am. I might give it a try next week with some big chunks of pork belly to make it meatier. 😋
And now I'm up to date again! :3 Also, yay! White Board-kun! xD I alredy expected/hoped that you would get him involved sooner or later. Happy to see my prediction was right! ^^ This time I only have my thoughts in bullet point-paragraphs, becouse I couldn't for the live of me form it into one main text. (I had a long day xD) -I love the fight between Marcille and the Ork leader! When he starts the "history leasson", both Chilchuck and Laios stay quiet and look away in shame over something they themself did not commit. Marcille is the only one to speak up, revealing that the subject is way more nuanced than the Ork leader makes it seem at first glance. You know, like history tends to be! She doesn't outright refute what the Ork says, she just adds aditional context that he conveniently leaves out to teach his kid a verry one sided narrative. By the end of the argument, one is left with the fact that both sides did terrible stuff, but where also justified in some of the things they did. Like, does it suck that the people from the surface poured hot oil into the orc tunnels to boil them? YES! Does it also suck that orcs went and killed setlements full of people? YES! Amazing word building to keep things in shades of grey, instead of painting conflict like that in simple black and whites! -I was actually suprised that Laios could diferentiate the footsteps better than Chilchuck, considering Halffoots seem to have better hearing than Tallman, from what we have seen. So I asume Chilchuck just never bothered to pay attention to the differences in footsteps, or he just trusts that Laios has that part figured, so he doesn't get involved xD -This episode, once again, just tells me that Senshi is low key a hipcrit. Here he berades Marcille for wanting to use magic to light a fire (basically the equivalent of using a match), yet two episodes ago HE was the one taking the easy way out with the mandraces, and HE was the one triggering all of the traps in the trapped room (DESPITE Chilchucks warning) becouse avoiding them was "to complicated". Like, pick a narrative dude! You can't have it both ways! -There is a great video about the origin/identity of Kobolds by "Wiz and Pippy Adventures", called "What everyone get's wrong about Kobolds" (ruclips.net/video/Arq-HVvlr8o/видео.html ) . It's only 10 minutes long, but the short of it is, that DnD originally depicted Kobolds as sort of demon-dog-lizard hibrids. So people asume that this is why Dungeon Meshi, which takes a lot of inspiration from DnD, depicts them as dogs. Great reaction as always ^^ I'll see you in the next one!
This is the episode that convinced me Dungeon Meshi was really doing something. Before that, it was a fairly amusing cooking gag anime, but I did not suspect it had anything more up its sleeve. Then the baby orc shows up and suddenly my ears perk up and I have to go, DUNGEON MESHI, YOU SLY SON OF A GUN! YOU'VE BEEN LURING ME INTO A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY WHILE YOU WERE DOING DEEP WORLDBUILDING!
I also don't think you could disappoint Senshi. He would be happy to teach you what he knows and help you improve. Just happy that you made the attempt.
I love the detail that Laios is good at listening to the sounds. In a dungeon you wouldn't be able to really trust other senses, like sight as there may not be any light around. But hearing with the way things can echo is something thats always helpful.
Yeah, I'd say the Kobolds in DnD or Fantasy games are very different from the original folklore, where they're depicted more like Gremlins. The most famous Kobold in the German-speaking world is probably "Pumuckl", well known from childrens books and a TV series, who is just a cheeky little guy with frizzy red hair, a bit like an Irish Leprechaun.
I honestly cannot stand kids in media and irl in general but the baby orc is the first one that genuinely made me coo🥰 Also,, I like that everyone can agree that the male characters in dunmeshi can all get it like they're all so attractive in their own way!! it is really refreshing to see variety, these characters could be really great representation and role models/ideals for men and just people in general compared to the majority of current media hyperfocused on the "traditional"/toxic masculinity.
kobolds are more popular as half dog half man creature in japan. i got to know them through anime and games first, so i was surprised to know that they are from german folklore and looked more lizard-y. also i want to talk one of many points that i love from dungeon meshi is continuity. you see them eating leftover basilisk meat because they cooked it on previous episodes, senshi used leftover scorpion broth for the tart, and in the future episodes you will see more like this.

Awww, that is such a good point - that's why he's our GOAT of the series so far! That's such a cool point to make!

YES! That is really a good note to make about Laios and that sensory perception! Thank you for noting that and the comment and kind words!
I love that Marcile's hairstyle changes, throughout the series.. ❤
