    The subtitle was not worded wrong, Laios actually said that was his first death. Additionally, in episode 1, when Marcille was attacked by a slime, she stated that her first death was caused by a slime. Later in the same episode, when they encountered a corpse, Marcille asked if she should use a resurrection spell as well.

      OOHHHHH Okay, well, that's good to know! Thank you for that and I'll have to bring that up in a future episode!

    Romania there was actually another character who mentioned dying before, it's Marcille in episode 1. She mentioned when she was attacked by the slime that she died like this the first time as well. Also Laois mentioned in episode 1 as well that he thinks he heard its possible for someone being revived from poop. So in that world its just normal to die and come back.
    Also I agree, I'm all here for the Senshi Fanservice!

      Ah, yes, quite so. I agree, it's probably foreshadowing some crazy shenanigans down the road. ;) Thank you for the comment!

    34:42 Just a small correction, it was the king of the kingdom who said that, not the mage. He said whoever defeat the mage will get the kingdom

    so glad you are a Laios Enjoyer, I am constantly rotating him in my head. Marcille too.
    Reaching these chapters for the first time was when I truly knew I was reading something special. how creative, to make living armor a mollusc colony??? delightful stuff
    I was wondering what you think so far of all the different body types so far, it's an aspect of Ryoko Kui's character designs I truly adore, especially towards all the different races

      I will definitely talk about this in future episodes! :D And I have patrons ask me questions that I answer in the cooking sections but I appreciate the variety so far!

    A week late, but so far I'm keeping up pretty decently with your Dungeon Mehi reactions! ^^
    I absolutely ADORE the Living Armor concept in this episode! It's so freaking cool and creative! And it really showcases how much thought and passion the author puts into the creatures and world building. Laios also does wonders for delivering said world building! Becous we technically just had an entire episode about discovering a new monster species, and than info dumping about it xD But thanks to Laios as a character, the info dumping feals incredibly organic and doesn't take the viewer out of it, like it is the case with some other shows.
    Speaking of Laios, I also really like how this episode showcases that he is actually pretty smart! At least in his subjects of expertise. He cleverly analyses all the info that he can gather from watching the Armor, builds theories based on said information and than constructs tactics to prove his theories. The way he figures out what the Armor is and how to defeat it was incredibly impressive! And all that in a comparably high stakes situation, with a time limit becouse the rest of the party depends on him figuring this out before the Living Armor's can kill them!
    But enough about that, mini points time! :3 :
    -Just pointing it out to avoid possible confusion in the future: that winged beast you see in the op and over the door? That is NOT a griffin. Griffins in 99% of their depictions are mixed-species creatures with the head of a bird, not the head of a lion.
    - (Others probably alredy mentioned it, but) This episode is actually not the first time a character mentions their "first death". In Episode 1 Marcille also mentions that her "first death" was to a slime. In the beginning of Episode 1 Laios also mentions people getting resurected. I'll let you figure the rest out on your own, since technically the show alredy gave you all the pieces to explain how Lios lived through his first Living Armor encounter ^^
    Great reaction again, I'll see you in the next one! :3
    P.S. Spoiler for episode 11 below! Do NOT read before you watched that episode!
    I just couldn't help myself xD

      Thank you for the comment and kind words! I really appreciate it! I’ll definitely ignore that spoiler part - I usually don’t have time to “come back” to comments, so just copy and paste what you put when we get to episode 11 so I can read it! 😀
      The living armor is such a fun concept, indeed!
      Also, Laios being a monster lover and knowing all the things about them makes it feel less like an exposition dump, I agree! And yes, he may be “innocent,” but he’s definitely smart! I’ll talk about that in a future episode, too!
      Maybe I’ve been raised to know a different Griffin than everyone else…but thanks for the notes! And yes, I’ll talk about the deaths in a future episode, too! Y’all just gotta be patient with me! ;)
      Thanks for the comment!

    Ok, to add on a bit as I watch the discussion:
    The decal has a meaning! After all, we saw where he got his former sword in this episode: grabbed it from an armour!
    It's a bit clearer implied in the manga, but no spoilers just extra information. The prior sword was indeed also a mollusc creature without Laios' knowledge. The decal is no longer sticking because it has now died and can no longer maintain the structure. Thanks to the weakening the sword breaks again.
    Laios monster information rant partially draws on manga extra at the end of each volume where we learn a bit about monster anatomy. Most of this material is cut because its hard to put into the narrative but its hilarious. Also yes, they have sex via naughty handholding.
    Others have already said it... Yeah, he died. And we have resurrection spells here, but more details on that later in the anime.
    I do find it a bit funny that you think this signifies that this series can show blood and violence. This anime starts with a dragon fight where Falin gets chomped in half! The writing is just so good most reactors forget about that gruesome scene and buy into the wholesomeness. No pretense, but it really pulls everyone into expecting a certain genre and tone. So don't worry, you arent alone here.

  • @Hallasammal
    @Hallasammal 26 дней назад +2

    The series *has* established that resurrection is a thing. After all, what chance would they have of saving Falin otherwise? Both Marcille and Laios have mentioned resurrection spells before

    • @RomaniaBlack
      @RomaniaBlack  24 дня назад +1

      Honestly, I did not take that into account because I'm not used to DND type stories like this, so that seemed almost a joke? This is my first time really into the genre like this, so I'll make note for the future! Thanks! Also, they DID state that it takes two months before anything would really happen to her with the dragon, so please no spoilers, as I've stated in the videos!

    Laios DID die. The show's mentioned a few times now that it's possible to resurrect the dead. The details get explained later.

    This episode was the one that hooked me into this series.
    Don't get me wrong, I loved episodes 1-2, but I wasn't feeling that invested. I've seen a lot of fantasy cooking shows/novels/manga, but most of them are quite tame, kinda generic and without much effort being put in making the plot.
    This episode opened my eyes. We had the themes before, but this one was the one that made me realize the genius of the writer. I mean, they have DETAILED explanations of how monsters work, how they'd be cooked and a lot of surprises about them. For example, in this episode we had the typical moving armour. They are cannonically moving by magic or a spirit possession. What does Dungeon Meshi? Makes some kind of molusc that connects every part!
    Last episode we had Cockatrice eggs and they weren't chicken-like, they were serpent eggs, because the chicken was the TAIL!
    I loved this dedication to the world building. Mad respect to the author!

      This episode was so wonderful! I love that this series is going against the grain already - I love the worldbuilding so far with all of this! I loved the armor explanation as well! And yeah, it all adds up so well - I can’t wait to see where it goes! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

    That animation where the living armor put on its head and fix its direction to stare down at Laios slaps so hard *claps in respect for the animators
    I remember watching this ep for the first time gave me the urge to make oyster stir-fry XD (I did. It was delicious. This anime reminds me of how much I appreciate and enjoy food and gives me the best motivation to cook for myself XD) I do think this monster is mostly modelled after oysters. I found out that day that real life oysters don't need to be cleaned from the innards and that I had wasted time ruining the shape of my oysters XDDD. Apparently the green disgusting-looking lump in their digestive tract that I thought was a pile of oyster poop was actually a ball of nutritious algae XDDD.
    I don't think you need to worry about the living armor mollusks invading your armor. Laios stated in this episode that these creature form their own armor the same way shellfish form their own shells, not inhabit a pre-existing shell. So they can't crawl out from their shell either, it's part of their bodies. It's really cool to think that these creatures naturally form such cool shell shapes and use it collaboratively with their own kind.
    Also Romania, a griffin's front half is that of an eagle (this is the universal definition of a griffin, not a spoiler). Whatever creature that appeared there was NOT a griffin XDD

    • @RomaniaBlack
      @RomaniaBlack  24 дня назад

      Yesss, the animators did such a great job! And oooh, I’m glad that the oyster stir-fry turned out well! I’m not a fan of oysters, but it’s good to know the recipes can work for us! I do love that it’s giving us all a food appreciation! But that makes sense that the monsters are similar to oysters!
      Honestly, there are some creatures that are lions and birds mixed that I’ve seen called Griffin’s…maybe I was told wrong? Who knows. Thanks for the comment!

    There're a lot of Berserk references in dungeon meshi..
    A fully white armor..
    A casca look alike warrior
    A underground city..

      I saw what looked like a big cat (or lion's) paws and wings like a bird, so that was what I was thinking with Griffin, but I could be wrong. We'll see where the show takes us! #nospoilers Thanks for the comment!
