That explains why the others didn't know which Marcille was the real one ; She has so many hairstyle you don't know which one she's wearing at the moment!
the reason why kabru's party kept getting rekt in the dungeon was because their leader, kabru only specializes in dealing with humans (fighting, behavior, etc) while laios' is the complete opposite in the sense that he's way more interested about monsters lol

Author and artist is Ryoko Kui. One japanese woman made the entire manga series starting in 2014 and the anime has been almost panel for panel recreations of her work.
I really like her colored drawings! i would love to see Dungeon Meshi Anime OVA since the author made two books explaining about everything like the world, the races, character's background in more detailed way in Adventure's Bible and Daydream Hour!
Best thing about this show is how the concept of in-dungeon immortality first seems like comedic feature but as you learn more about the lore and the situation within the dungeon and its original inhabitants, it becomes a horrifying nightmare fuel.
Extra content from the manga reveals trolls, being a half-foot myth, are not actual monsters but just what they called tall-men when they didn’t know about their existence. When laios learnt this he got very disappointed
Fun bits of Namari Trivia from manga side stuff (not spoilers for anything past season 1). Since Namari’s dad embezzled and ran away, he and by extension his family are effectively banished from the local dwarf community (while he’s too detached from them himself to care Senshi shoudlnt even talk to her). Part of her desire for wealth is to buy back the family’s honor by paying their debts. Also, she has a thing for Leggy Tall-men, doesn’t seem to care about gender. As a result she thinks both Folke twins are very attractive. Kiki has realized this and is flirtingly teasing her about it.
I have been a fan of anime for over 30 years, and can whole-heartedly say this is the BEST character design I have ever seen. Every bit makes sense and fits, right down to the crew swapping gear when they get changed, but only to a comfortable degree. Like Chilchuck is NOT wearing all of Laios's gear, while Senshi is wearing ALL of Marcielle's (minus the staff, of course)
A scene they didn't include was how the state of a person's corpse increases a chance of resurrection. It was hinted at with the body found in the man eating plant but not fully explained. That's why the situation was so dire when they got falin's corpse. Being digested to that extent reduced the chances of being resurrected to maybe 1 percent or even less. Successful resurrection converts fat and muscle of the resurrected into energy, without enough of both the internal organs can suffer. There's tons of bonus content between chapters in the manga if you choose to read it. I recommend reading up to chapter 52 where it stops in the anime.
@@ma.2089 It's sort of implied with Marcille's comment on how they need double the amount of Falin's body mass in dragon flesh, but never directly stated that healing in itself burns through the body's reserves.
@@TheLeafcuter yeah but I mean I thought they mentioned in episode 1 where Marcille asks if she should resurrect the corpse in the plant but on rewatch I couldn’t find any mention of it. Was it English dub subs that did it?? I’ve no clue but I can’t seem to find the line now and I watched it on Netflix!
@@ma.2089 When Kabru's party got resurrected they also commented on how resurrection makes you hungry, but I think that's the closest the anime got to referencing it. The dub did on average manage to include more lore than the sub though
They do! In the english dub, in some episode, Senshi mentions that being revived is "unnatural" and Laios comments on how thats the case above ground, but due to a powerful spell cast on the dungeon, it doesnt matter how far along the bodys decay is, the soul is still chained to the body. So as long as your corpse is found, your soul will stay no matter the damage done. Maybe its just not mentioned in the japanese version, but it *is* stated, and shown, and explained in the english one
Oh... I did not notice this detail when I was watching alone. Their horse (Senshi's miner group) was named Anne and that was what Senshi named the kelpie as well....
In the setting, men, elves, gnomes, dwarves, and halflings are considered human, whereas kobolds, orcs, fishmen, and sirens are considered demi-humans. However, in the east, where Shuro is from, they only have men and ogres, so in their case they have a different distinction which is men being called human and ogres being called oni. That also means that it's a bit strange for them to come to the west where the term human encompasses more races than just men. This is not something the anime really explains, it's only found in an extra chapter of the manga. =)
It's actually a pretty neat thing: some venoms are safe to eat. If I remember correctly, both rattlesnake and viper's poisons are safe to eat. They taste incredibly bitter and unpleasant, but the main reason it's safe is that it coagulates upon coming into direct contact with the blood. Running it through the digestive system the components are broken down.
"Safe" to eat is a misnomer. "Possible" to eat is a better word. One laceration in your mouth, a cavity, an open canker sore, a scratch in your throat from a cough, a scratch in your stomach from eating a bone or something, and that poison can get into your blood before being broken down by stomach acids. Considering how easy it is to remove the problem areas (stinger or head), and how minimal amounts of food are lost doing so, it's generally safer to not eat venoms. Also, English lesson: If it's from eating it, it's poisonous. If it's from being injected into your blood, it's venomous. Only some poisonous things are also venomous, and only some venomous things are poisonous. (EDIT: And some things, like hot peppers, are toxic. Mere skin contact is enough for it, no eating or injecting required. Strictly speaking, capscaisin, the "hot" of hot peppers, is a neuro-toxin.)
@@falsnamae3511I’m not sure if “possible” is the best word either. Many things are technically possible to consume, like cleaners and broken glass. I think I’d put it under “potentially dangerous”. Like fugu fish and certain mushrooms.
I'd like to think that the lifespan things was based on their average lifespan. The average lifespan of human in our world is 72, so Chilchuck's age is the equivalent of people in their early 40s
About the people of the Golden Country all being young, it was explained in extra content: Only those who were young when the spell was cast could fully adapt long-term, all the older ones tried to escape or rebel and lost their bodies in the process, becoming ghosts. (And I think the specific ghost which talks to Laios is Yaad's father / Delgal's son, but I have no proof of that.)
i mean there’s no romance subplot & i think the author intended for the relationships in this universe to be vague & open-ended…so really ship whoever you want! i personally ship falin & marcille 😂
Ace Laios is my headcanon tbh. I feel like he’s too obsessed with monsters to think about romance. When the catgirl was naked, he wasn’t really focused on the fact that there was a naked girl in front of him. He was just fascinated with her physiology and wanted to count her nips 😂😂
@@SolSister10596 Respect to this headcanon but I don’t feel like Laios would notice Izutsumi that way in either case, the whole party seems very conscious of her age

Damn, your talk about being a disagreable person hit me so hard. Exactly in first grade it also took me three hours to do my homework because I just didn't like it and stared at a wall or drew something. Sometimes later for some reason it just clicked for me that I can focus for fifteen minutes and be done with it, so I didn't have much trouble in school, but even today as I work as a software dev and there's a task I find daunting or not interesting I procrastinate to the end of the world instead of just doing it because I DONT WANNA. Tis a struggle
seems to me you have some kind of attention deficit disorder but who am I kidding, i'm a stranger on the internet lol. this does relate to me as well since I am on the spectrum and it is sometimes hard for me to focus on things.
Falin's skin was red because she was covered in blood, she went back to normal because she wiped it off. Also, if they just Ran out of the dungeon they would have been fine, since the mad mage loses their power over the monsters outside of the dungeon.
I clicked on this and did not realize it was 9 hours. I am definitely watching in increments. I hope you've fallen in love with our little party of characters, including the cat. I love all of them and the slow worldbuilding throughout the show. The themes of unity through food and food being present and important in any culture is so good.
This channel is basically the Netflix of Reaction channel. When everybody do show one by one they just drop the whole thing and let you decide what to do with it 😂😂
Bread is pan in Japanese because of the Portuguese. There are a couple Japanese words that originated in Portuguese when we arrived in the 16th century. Portuguese introduced bread to them and "pão" became "pan".
@@ranpants0823 Yes! There are a couple words that come from Portuguese. A lot of them are not that used anymore though. They are more seen as old Japanese
@@dinispereira_ Yup! The ones people tend to be most surprised by when they find out are tempura and konpeito (the candy) which were also dishes brought to Japan by the Portuguese. It can be fun to look up lists of Japanese loan words from foreign languages

@1:46:25 Bugs in real life are actually quite often edible and healthy too! They're a far more efficient and sustainable protein source than meat, they're generally quite nutritious, and plenty of them taste fine when prepared well. Plenty of people around the world eat them, and not just because they're too poor to eat anything better. Aversion to eating bugs doesn't really make much sense - what about crabs, shrimp, and lobsters? Those are pretty much just big old ocean bugs lmao. So something Ryoko Kui cleared up: Dark elves don't exist. It's just a myth spread by elves to prevent their people from dabbling into forbidden magic.
wasnt it rather that short lived races were confused by the hot and cold attitude of elves (a few outlier elves really liked short lived humans and were nice to them but most elves didnt give a fuck abou the shrot lived races) so they made up the term Dark Elves to explain that behaviour?
3:35:09 The paintings for the return spell are more like portals. The living paintings captured moments in time that repeat continuously. Like a home movie you can interact with.
I love how attentive and inquisitive you were throughout the season! Especially your analysis of Kabru's investigative and slightly sociopathic patterns was cool to follow through! Can't wait for season 2 and your reactions to that!
It seriously sucks ppl misinterpret Kabru as being a sociopath. But I guess most ppl aren’t doctors who actually know what sociopathy is so I guess it’s why they throw around the term as if it’s candy. Excited for s2 so ppl can get a better grasp on his character. But no, killing someone who tried to get you killed for monetary gain isn’t sociopathy lmao
@@ma.2089 Yeah killing the retrievers is not sociopathy, nor is Kabru a full on sociopath. But, his manipulative tendencies and "mind games" in analyzing and hypothesizing about others through his singular sense of justice and righteousness are somewhat sociopathic behaviors. I'm not calling him a clinical sociopath, I'm using character analysis shorthand to highlight his character flaw. And I understand that it is not necessarily the most kosher choice of words as a descriptor. I used it in a more commonly understood shorthand.
@@jemleye not at all. Most ppl are like this. If anything, ppl r just hypocrites. They like to talk about how much better they are than other people, while simultaneously behaving exactly in the ways they condemn. Dude hasn’t “manipulated” anyone. Analyzing ppl’s heavily isn’t sociopathic either. At least he’s aware of why ppl behave the way they do. Half the time ppl act reprehensibly and then act like they’re justified. Overall it just sucks that ppl will put on a mask to be accepted by society and are called abnormal for doing so. Yet ppl pretend all the time. If every single instance of pretending to give a shit about others, everyone would be a “sociopath” or have “sociopathic” behaviors.
@@jemleye also, just to clarify, this sort of issue IS addressed w/ the narrative. I know how ppl talk about Laios and Kabru’s characters. They’re intentionally supposed to be annoy neurotypical ppl in the story and outside of it. They’re abnormal and most ppl dislike it for a reason. It’s less about whether ppl are allowed to have issue with it, and more about ppl calling them psychos for not behaving “normally”.

1:22:45~ Not related to this show, but a question from a historical perspective. Regarding fertilizer, is it different outside of Japan? In Japan, human excrement was used as compost from the Middle Ages until around World War II. Especially in the Edo period (1603-1867), human excrement with good nutritional quality was sold at a high price. Why? Because there were few cows and horses being raised, and there was an overwhelming shortage of fertilizer. A recycling society had been established, whereby manure was collected, used as fertilizer, and vegetables grown on the land were eaten. (Since it takes more than a year for fermentation to decompose, it was sometimes spread as fertilizer in an incomplete state under the circumstances of the time.) Here is the parasite problem. Japan is known for its raw food culture, but surprisingly, vegetables were not eaten raw at that time. However, due to the influence of Western culture and the intervention of GHQ after World War II, human excrement fertilizers were ordered to be discontinued and replaced with chemical fertilizers.

Dungeon Meshi are cut above the rest when it comes to world building, character designs, and being a good story. Thats what happens when the author has a clear goal in mind on what their story is gonna be from beginning to end, telling what you want without caring if it would be popular or not. Also it helps that the author is a huge DnD fan and gamer, and consumes all sorts of western fantasy sources. Dungeon Meshi, Witch Hat Atelier, and Magus of the Library are literally goated.
When u said taste tester Immediately remembered Apothecary Diaries . That anime is really goood. Like really good. Waiting for the next season tho......
Laios, and to a lesser extent Kabru and Fallin are both seen as neurodivergent Laios never fit into his community, whether it be in his village or in the army. Even his parents seemed to have shamed him for not making himself fit in anywhere if the Nightmares are anything to go off of. He’s bad at reading social cues. Not out of stupidity, but simply because he doesn’t really get why he should follow them. Take Shuro, for instance. Shuro kept hinting at Laios that he didn’t like him, but Laios didn’t ever consider it because he doesn’t see any point in hiding something like that (This also relates to the cultural differences between Shuro’s Japanese inspired culture and Laios’s central Western culture, as well as Shuro being raised high class and Laios low class as well) Ironically enough, basically everything Shuro hated in Laios he likes in Fallin, just because Fallin happens to be more socially acceptable and quiet in her attitude, which is how social pressures usually effect neurodivergent women Vs men. It’s also why research on autism, adhd, etc. was historically only done on men. Not out of direct sexism (usually) but because society expected women not to be loud and abrasive with anything more than it has for men, meaning neurodivergent men made themselves more recognized, and to this day many autistic or adhd women go undiagnosed. It’s also clear that just as Laios didn’t realize Shuro didn’t like him, Shuro admitted himself that Fallin didn’t think Shuro had any feelings towards her. Same misunderstanding of social cues, but different results because of gender expectations. In terms of autism specifically, Fallin is better at “masking” than Laios is, masking being forcing yourself, subconsciously or consciously, to fit in and not make neurodivergent traits that are seen as weird or unacceptable known (pacing, hand flapping, lack of voice volume control, all things that are basically never harmful but are just socially seen as bad or creepy, and all things Laios has done) And, of course, hyperfixations. Laios is obviously highly focused on monsters. He relates to them, clearly, considering he was unfairly outcasted for no good reason, in the same way eating monsters is seen as dirty or impure for no real reason either. He also just is interested in their biology and ecosystem Kabru, who is Laios’s foil as you both realized, can be seen as the kind of neurodivergence that actually thrives in social situations. The one that sees social cues that come naturally to neurotypical people as an oddity to study and mimic, not one to ignore. Kabru is clearly just as interested in humans as Laios is monsters or Fallin is spirits.
Rioko Kui actually revealed who’s illusions where who’s -Big laios: Marcille’s, since she was told laios looked a lot like falin, when they first met what struck her the most was how different he actually looked -Crazy dumb laios: chilchuck’s, not much explaining to do -cute laios: senshi’s, dwarf tend to see tall men as effeminate Serious Marcille: laios’ perception, her strong will to revive falin although the dangerous use of black magic struck him the most Other Marcille: chilchuck’s, he likes blond hair… that’s it kinda Evil Marcille: Senshi’s since dwarves kinda demonize elves she looks more sinister Cute chilchuck: Marcille’s, she knows he’s not that cute but still can’t see him another way Cuter chilchuck: Senshi’s since he thinks he’s still a kid Handsome senshi: chilchuck since half-foots tend to idolize dwarves’ masculinity Other senshi: Marcille’s, his stature is what stuck with her the most She also mentions that the first thing you mustn’t do when dealing with shapeshifters is fight with your party about why they see you like that, often parties break and get defeated because they’re more busy trying to identify who’s perception is who’s. Or even if they do find the copies, eventually break off due to the animosity
A bit to add: Other Marcelle: her magic book has ominous titles and no actual magic since it’s something he’s wary of and has learned nothing about. Also, (very minor spoiler): later we learn Chilchuck can braid hair, in that context we can see he gave her a more half-foot style.
So glad you reacted to this series because it's 🐐ed. And here's some non spoiler tidbits about the series. Kiki and Kaka are actually Mr and Mrs. Tansu's adopted children Part of the reason why Maizuru is so motherly towards Shuro is because she's also the mistress of Shuro's father. Speaking of, Izutsumi was a gift from Shuro's dad to Maizuru that he gave her when he was drunk. Senshi named Anne the kelpie after the horse he was forced toe eat to not starve In supplementary materials, we find out how each of the party member’s memories affected the doppelgangers. Laios Marcile: His memory of her hair is vague but he vividly remembers her determined expression when resurrecting Falin. Chilchuck: Pretty accurate, although he didn’t realize he wasn't wearing a scarf Senshi: Also accurate, other than a blemish in the helmet. Marcille Laios: She heard that he looked just like Falin, but I guess he was too masculine for her gay ass, and the first impression stuck. Chilchuck: He is infantilized because she can’t comprehend that he’s an adult Senshi: His stature and height are slightly exaggerated because those traits left the biggest impression on her. Chilchuck Laios: His weirdness is VERY exaggerated because Chilchuck is weirded out by Laios. Shocker. Marcille: Not much to say other than the hair is sorta accurate because he likes blond hair but doesn’t remember the specific hairstyle Senshi: Is more handsome because the masculinity of dwarves is a trait idolized by a lot of Halfoots. Senshi: Laios: Twink Laios because tall men are viewed as more feminine in comparison to dwarves. Marcille: Botox Marcille because he had been told at a young age that elves were bad so he has subconscious racism against them. Chilchuck: He’s infantilized by Senshi similar to Marcille but worse. He legitimately thinks Chilchuck is only a child.

6:20 some details on the naming. the original name of the series is dungeon meshi which translates near to dungeon food, hence in some eps you heal the narrator go o dungeon meshi. when it got translated and released in america they changed up the name to kinda be a play on words to dungeons and dragons aka DnD.
4:11:03 the *discussion*! Oh I am loving every second of this. I remember feeling the same way about this part of the story but I never really tried to analyze it, and I also haven’t seen any other reactors focus on this. I agree with all the points you guys brought up; gosh I was nodding in agreement to every sentence like a friggin bobblehead! Steph’s comment about grief and Wes’s comment about the horror. Great video!

Y'all dressing uo for the final episode is so cute omg!!! I'm glad you guys really like this series and I hope you'll be able to react to season 2 when it's out ❤
Funny side-note about the Nightmare-thingies at about 7:18:10 - that's a bit better differenciated in the german language: There's the "Albtraum" (lit. "elf dream"), the normal nightmare, and the "Nachtmahr", the Nightmare creatures. Technically both mean the same, the "Nachtmahr" is just outdated in common use, but it's exactly what the Saxons and Angles brought to the British Isles and therefore to the englishspeaking world. And looking at our nowadays common word makes it funny, that Marcille had the bad dream (even though it's the elf, that causes the nightmares in the myth by resting [sitting] on the victims chest - and Laios' resting on the elfs chest/stomach to cure her is a nice spin on it).
You guys are probably one the best anime reaction channels out there, actually paying attention and picking up foreshadowings way ahead. Love this a lot. Is bocchi the rock on your list? I would love to add it on your patreon.

I'm never not gonna be shocked by how quickly reactors jump to calling Thistle a dark elf without picking up on how weird that sounds, or how everyone seems to think Marcille is into Laios just cause she's the only girl in the party but they ignore all of the very not platonic scenes of her and Falin
What a great reaction, I like it when you two bring comments and observations, and also some predictions are so accurate that they scare me. I found it interesting that Steph theorized that Marcille only went to the dungeon again because she might have a crush on Laios, the fandom is very divided when it comes to ships (even though the story never makes anything explicit about this part, other than the fact that they are all great friends). But basically the ships are between Marcille and one of the Touden siblings I am personally a big fan of the couple Laios and Marcille, in the second season there will be moments that strengthen this couple.
Laios: Even if all 5 of us ate 1 kg per day, it'd take a decade That means 5x1x10x365.25=18,262.5 kg of meat Meat yield would be around 50-70% depending on the animal, let's say 2/3rd since she resembles a chicken the most, that means the chimera is a massive 27,394 kilograms (around 7 African elephants). And if you'd need around 500 people to finish that in a month, or 5,000 to finish in 3 days.
You said Laios should be a poison taster for a king somewhere around the 1/4 mark - if that interests you, sounds like you would be pretty into Apothecary Diaries
It's so good to know that I found you guys from a very different reaction subject AND THEN find out you guys enjoy anime too, AND THEN you guys reacted to the show that adapted one of my favorite stories in any media, the manga is wonderful, even more insightful in its lore than the anime but I'm glad that this show is famous enough that it would reach you guys. Even better that you guys did play D&D too, loving this reaction so far
If no one has clued you in yet, Laois is pretty much an autistic-coded character. Low social awareness, smart but hyper focused on his obsession (monsters) and needs to be told things directly for effective communication. Edit: lol nvm, 6:34:34 thanks to whoever who let y’all know
Fun fact for the shapeshifters, the author did a little guide to whos shapeshifter duplicate was who's, as follows: . Tall Laios, Marcille. when she heard Falin say Laios looked just like her, she didn't expect him to be as masculine (by elven standards) as he did so his masculine features were heavilly exadgerated in her mind . Dumb Laios, Chilchuck. Chilchuck sort of flanderizes Laios in his mind, and he thinks Laios is insane. . Feminine/Young Laios, Senshi. Dwarves see Tall Men as feminine by their standards, as well as seeing him as younger than he is. . Ugly Marcille, Senshi. Dwarves find elves unattractive, and Senshi often sees Marcille as uptight and overly fancy. . Bad spellbook Marcille, Chilchuck. Marcilles most prominent feature in Chilchucks mind is her blonde hair and as a side note, her spellbook mentions a time travel spell as a callback to Marcille joking about finding one due to the dryad fruit. . Hair-down Marcille, Laios. When Marcille used forbidden magic to resurrect Falin, that left a strong impression on Laios, so the way she looked in that moment was how he remembers her. . Scarfchuck, Laios. Laios is bad with small details. . Babychuck, Senshi. Senshi infantalizes Chilchuck more than any other party member, so his impression of Chilchuck looks the youngest. . Sitting-on-chestchuck, Marcille. He also looks young compared to main Chilchuck, but not as young as Senshis because while she's accepted Chilchuck is an adult, she hasn't fully internalizes it yet. . Helmet-holeless Senshi, Laios. as stated above, Laios is bad with details. . Bad Tools Senshi, Marcille. Due to different cultures between dwarves and elves, Marcille exadgerated Senshi's dwarvish features of being short and stout. . Handsome Senshi, Chilchuck. Half-foots consider Dwarves to be the pinacle of masculinity and attractiveness.
4:41:08 😅 Lunatic Magician sounds so silly, I watched this with the English voice actors and he was the Mad Maige, which sounds way better and menacing lol. 😂
It's pretty funny that Mickbell dislikes Chilchuck even though Chilchuck is the one who formed a union for the Half-Foots on the island and has greatly improved their quality of life on the island, he's complaining about having to pay union dues and that he'd have to actually pay Kuro in money rather than just food if they found out about it 😂.
the creator for this took alot of influences from various fantasy media from wizardry, pathfinder, dnd, divinity and such. the episode when they first met orcs and the chieften was telling their story it kinda aligns to pathfinder (two video games exist being kingmaker and wrath of the righteous) tabletop rpg lore for them. - in pathfinder orcs used to live in the darklands which is also where dwarves are from. dwarves had a prophecy of when the world shakes they dig up to claim the sky and the prophecy happened when on the surface a giant meteor fell onto the world of golarion. the meteor was caused by algothuls (psychic fish like creatures that live in deep ocean) when the mortal race of humans gain power and fought back. the algothuls called upon beings from the stars to wipe out humans which the beings are cthulhu and other eldritch gods. yes they are canon. - once it hit golarion it caused the world to tremble signalling dwarves to start marching upwards, build tunnels ,structures and such to even attack and push away orcs. the orcs now on the surface in an unfamiliar world, dark skies, destruction and with survivors first seeing orcs they automatically assume monsters arose. the surviving humans attacked orcs on sight with many orcs killed and they foguht back to protect their kind. this doesnt help wehn the dwarves arrived, help humankind rebuilt and tell humans orcs are monsters. - thousands of years later this shifted when tar-baphon (a ancient lich lord powerful enough to kill an archangel named arazni who serves aroden, god of prophecies, brought her corpse to aroden and turned her into a lich to insult him.) started coexing the orcs saying he can reclaim their lands if they serve but dont realize its all a lie and either get corrupted or turn into undead soldiers. remaining orc clans fought back against him and when the shining crusade (multiple human kingdoms that were at war one another ally up against a common threat being the lich) witness this they ally up too. in time the lich was defeated and the orcs gain some trust among humans. - what about the dwarves? as the years past and new kings arose the recent highking knew what their ppl did to the orcs long ago and want to make amends. they want to give back some skyholds (citadels dwarves made to claim the sky) territories to them but of course other dwarf nobility is against this for tradition sakes or money will be lost. current lore thats still in debates but many full blood orcs now live among society with the recent remaster of pathfinder 2e core book now have full blood orc as a playable option with rules to do half orcs, which with them in high numbers now they call their own kind dromaar which in orcish means drummers and it signifies their numbers are high and they have a voice among society.
8:49:45 Another explanation for "changeling children" is children who are born with autism or other developmental disabilities. Neurodivergence wasn't really understood so children who behaved oddly were thought to be swapped changelings.

Really? 36? That's insane
That explains why the others didn't know which Marcille was the real one ; She has so many hairstyle you don't know which one she's wearing at the moment!
She had more hairstyles than episodes
Damn, even Goku only has 4 hairstyles 😂
Its actually insane that not a single time did i notice it changed.
The name: “Kensuke” is a pun, kinda like Bladejamin or Swordbert
Kenjamin. Also now im thinking halbert would be a nice name for a halberd
*Laios:* "And I shall call you… _Swordy McSwordface!"_
the reason why kabru's party kept getting rekt in the dungeon was because their leader, kabru only specializes in dealing with humans (fighting, behavior, etc) while laios' is the complete opposite in the sense that he's way more interested about monsters lol
So he’s better as a politician than an adventurer.
@@newhappythoughts1628 he would genuinely be. Good at understanding ppl but empathetic and traumatized enough to want to maintain a good quality of life for ppl
An gaming analogy is Liaos' Party is built for PvE and Kabru's party is built for PvP.
Even Laios was annihilated by the Red Dragon. Hunger is the most fearsome and powerful enemy.
@@newhappythoughts1628 thats his whole character! hes only an adventurer for now but he's ultimately aiming to be island lord or at least to replace him with someone competent
Author and artist is Ryoko Kui. One japanese woman made the entire manga series starting in 2014 and the anime has been almost panel for panel recreations of her work.
Did the anime reorder the sequences in order to match continuity better? Since early on the episode feel like two 10 min eps.
@@andylozano5193each episode covers 2 chapters, that’s why they’re all separated in the middle, it’s less noticeable on some episodes.
Love the fact that really the only changes made is that they gave Senshi more panty shots XD
I really like her colored drawings! i would love to see Dungeon Meshi Anime OVA since the author made two books explaining about everything like the world, the races, character's background in more detailed way in Adventure's Bible and Daydream Hour!
Best thing about this show is how the concept of in-dungeon immortality first seems like comedic feature but as you learn more about the lore and the situation within the dungeon and its original inhabitants, it becomes a horrifying nightmare fuel.
frrrr
Extra content from the manga reveals trolls, being a half-foot myth, are not actual monsters but just what they called tall-men when they didn’t know about their existence. When laios learnt this he got very disappointed
7:06:52 "his mom's a ginger!?" the way you were so shocked by that was so funny
Well I had the same reaction too😂
😂😂😂
Half of the stuff mentioned here are things mentioned in s1. But yeah, the other stuff is pretty cool to hear
@@ma.2089 yeah somehow blanked on part of episode 14 have edited accordingly.
I loved when they said “woooaaah” when the Western Elves were revealed. Valid reaction, Ryoko Kui’s character design is no joke.
It’s weird cuz I could’ve sworn they mentioned at some point in the anime that the body matter is important to resurrection and it can fail.
Like fugu fish and certain mushrooms.
just want you to know I read this comment in senshi's voice
I'd like to think that the lifespan things was based on their average lifespan. The average lifespan of human in our world is 72, so Chilchuck's age is the equivalent of people in their early 40s
About the people of the Golden Country all being young, it was explained in extra content:
Only those who were young when the spell was cast could fully adapt long-term, all the older ones tried to escape or rebel and lost their bodies in the process, becoming ghosts. (And I think the specific ghost which talks to Laios is Yaad's father / Delgal's son, but I have no proof of that.)
No, the king rest in peace after leaving the dungeon. It was other elder ghost.
@@chengkuoklee5734 That's what I said, it's *not* Delgal but could be Delgal's son.

Laishuro is kind of goated im ngl
Ace Laios is my headcanon tbh. I feel like he’s too obsessed with monsters to think about romance.

Bread is pan in Japanese because of the Portuguese. There are a couple Japanese words that originated in Portuguese when we arrived in the 16th century. Portuguese introduced bread to them and "pão" became "pan".
oh yeah didn't castella cake become super popular in Japan from the same Portuguese migration? that makes sense.

Not related to this show, but a question from a historical perspective.
(Since it takes more than a year for fermentation to decompose, it was sometimes spread as fertilizer in an incomplete state under the circumstances of the time.)
Here is the parasite problem. Japan is known for its raw food culture, but surprisingly, vegetables were not eaten raw at that time.
However, due to the influence of Western culture and the intervention of GHQ after World War II, human excrement fertilizers were ordered to be discontinued and replaced with chemical fertilizers.
Interesting!!

Im so surprise you guys noticed the lion statue!
I mean, Falin did tell Marcille Laios does a great dog impression
When u said taste tester Immediately remembered Apothecary Diaries . That anime is really goood. Like really good. Waiting for the next season tho......
Laios, and to a lesser extent Kabru and Fallin are both seen as neurodivergent
Laios never fit into his community, whether it be in his village or in the army. Even his parents seemed to have shamed him for not making himself fit in anywhere if the Nightmares are anything to go off of. He’s bad at reading social cues. Not out of stupidity, but simply because he doesn’t really get why he should follow them. Take Shuro, for instance. Shuro kept hinting at Laios that he didn’t like him, but Laios didn’t ever consider it because he doesn’t see any point in hiding something like that
(This also relates to the cultural differences between Shuro’s Japanese inspired culture and Laios’s central Western culture, as well as Shuro being raised high class and Laios low class as well)
Ironically enough, basically everything Shuro hated in Laios he likes in Fallin, just because Fallin happens to be more socially acceptable and quiet in her attitude, which is how social pressures usually effect neurodivergent women Vs men.
In terms of autism specifically, Fallin is better at “masking” than Laios is, masking being forcing yourself, subconsciously or consciously, to fit in and not make neurodivergent traits that are seen as weird or unacceptable known (pacing, hand flapping, lack of voice volume control, all things that are basically never harmful but are just socially seen as bad or creepy, and all things Laios has done)
And, of course, hyperfixations. Laios is obviously highly focused on monsters. He relates to them, clearly, considering he was unfairly outcasted for no good reason, in the same way eating monsters is seen as dirty or impure for no real reason either. He also just is interested in their biology and ecosystem
Kabru, who is Laios’s foil as you both realized, can be seen as the kind of neurodivergence that actually thrives in social situations. The one that sees social cues that come naturally to neurotypical people as an oddity to study and mimic, not one to ignore. Kabru is clearly just as interested in humans as Laios is monsters or Fallin is spirits.
the clips with falin are so special they forreal make me emotional like babygirl REALLY did not deserve any of this bs
Fun fact, you did guess the older/younger thing right. Laios is 26 and Kabru is 22.
Rioko Kui actually revealed who’s illusions where who’s
-Big laios: Marcille’s, since she was told laios looked a lot like falin, when they first met what struck her the most was how different he actually looked
-Crazy dumb laios: chilchuck’s, not much explaining to do
-cute laios: senshi’s, dwarf tend to see tall men as effeminate
Serious Marcille: laios’ perception, her strong will to revive falin although the dangerous use of black magic struck him the most
Other Marcille: chilchuck’s, he likes blond hair… that’s it kinda
Evil Marcille: Senshi’s since dwarves kinda demonize elves she looks more sinister
Cute chilchuck: Marcille’s, she knows he’s not that cute but still can’t see him another way
Cuter chilchuck: Senshi’s since he thinks he’s still a kid
Handsome senshi: chilchuck since half-foots tend to idolize dwarves’ masculinity
Other senshi: Marcille’s, his stature is what stuck with her the most
She also mentions that the first thing you mustn’t do when dealing with shapeshifters is fight with your party about why they see you like that, often parties break and get defeated because they’re more busy trying to identify who’s perception is who’s. Or even if they do find the copies, eventually break off due to the animosity
A bit to add:
Other Marcelle: her magic book has ominous titles and no actual magic since it’s something he’s wary of and has learned nothing about. Also, (very minor spoiler): later we learn Chilchuck can braid hair, in that context we can see he gave her a more half-foot style.
@@kagato23 chilchuck having daughters makes the bit of info that he can braid hair cuter 🤭

So glad you reacted to this series because it's 🐐ed. And here's some non spoiler tidbits about the series.
Kiki and Kaka are actually Mr and Mrs. Tansu's adopted children
Part of the reason why Maizuru is so motherly towards Shuro is because she's also the mistress of Shuro's father. Speaking of, Izutsumi was a gift from Shuro's dad to Maizuru that he gave her when he was drunk.
Senshi named Anne the kelpie after the horse he was forced toe eat to not starve
In supplementary materials, we find out how each of the party member’s memories affected the doppelgangers.
Laios
Marcile: His memory of her hair is vague but he vividly remembers her determined expression when resurrecting Falin.
Chilchuck: Pretty accurate, although he didn’t realize he wasn't wearing a scarf
Senshi: Also accurate, other than a blemish in the helmet.
Marcille
Laios: She heard that he looked just like Falin, but I guess he was too masculine for her gay ass, and the first impression stuck.
Chilchuck: He is infantilized because she can’t comprehend that he’s an adult
Senshi: His stature and height are slightly exaggerated because those traits left the biggest impression on her.
Chilchuck
Laios: His weirdness is VERY exaggerated because Chilchuck is weirded out by Laios. Shocker.
Marcille: Not much to say other than the hair is sorta accurate because he likes blond hair but doesn’t remember the specific hairstyle
Senshi: Is more handsome because the masculinity of dwarves is a trait idolized by a lot of Halfoots.
Senshi:
Laios: Twink Laios because tall men are viewed as more feminine in comparison to dwarves.
Marcille: Botox Marcille because he had been told at a young age that elves were bad so he has subconscious racism against them.
Chilchuck: He’s infantilized by Senshi similar to Marcille but worse. He legitimately thinks Chilchuck is only a child.

But basically the ships are between Marcille and one of the Touden siblings
I am personally a big fan of the couple Laios and Marcille, in the second season there will be moments that strengthen this couple.
Laios: Even if all 5 of us ate 1 kg per day, it'd take a decade
That means 5x1x10x365.25=18,262.5 kg of meat
Meat yield would be around 50-70% depending on the animal, let's say 2/3rd since she resembles a chicken the most, that means the chimera is a massive 27,394 kilograms (around 7 African elephants).
Edit: lol nvm, 6:34:34 thanks to whoever who let y’all know
Fun fact for the shapeshifters, the author did a little guide to whos shapeshifter duplicate was who's, as follows:
.
Tall Laios, Marcille. when she heard Falin say Laios looked just like her, she didn't expect him to be as masculine (by elven standards) as he did so his masculine features were heavilly exadgerated in her mind
.
Half-foots consider Dwarves to be the pinacle of masculinity and attractiveness.
kui is a goated author. i esp love her character designs and how diverse they are. shame that other fantasy authors never seem to take advantage of it
4:41:08 😅 Lunatic Magician sounds so silly, I watched this with the English voice actors and he was the Mad Maige, which sounds way better and menacing lol. 😂
You catching on to the winged lion stuff so early is very impressive!! I love y’all’s energy and theories :]
Holy shit. 9 hours. I'll have to put it on my second monitor while I work to finish it.
Three hours forty minutes in, and I’m LOVING this video! The comments and discussions are so good. Thank you for uploading this one!
Laios missing social cues is so relatable haha
wow you guys are one of the best reactors out there thanks so much for this video i watched it till the end
2:31:23 that's a completely different show that does exist
It's pretty funny that Mickbell dislikes Chilchuck even though Chilchuck is the one who formed a union for the Half-Foots on the island and has greatly improved their quality of life on the island, he's complaining about having to pay union dues and that he'd have to actually pay Kuro in money rather than just food if they found out about it 😂.
This reaction is such a delight, thank you!!
Those orc ladies are the chief's wives I guess. In other material it's said he has at least 3.
the creator for this took alot of influences from various fantasy media from wizardry, pathfinder, dnd, divinity and such. the episode when they first met orcs and the chieften was telling their story it kinda aligns to pathfinder (two video games exist being kingmaker and wrath of the righteous) tabletop rpg lore for them.
It's funny that you mention Laios and Kabru's age gap in ep16. Laios (and Shuro) is 26, and Kabru is exactly 4 years younger!
About damn time! I waited so long for this... Thank you
8:49:45 Another explanation for "changeling children" is children who are born with autism or other developmental disabilities. Neurodivergence wasn't really understood so children who behaved oddly were thought to be swapped changelings.
yep. same thing for physically disabled children, especially the ones that caused disfigurement
2:17:38 he was upset because they were going to use his lockpicks to eat
A stereotypically masculine Wes feels weird to imagine after getting used to him being basically the most playful and wholesome person out there.
I knew you will react this and i've been waiting
Oh hell yes fantasy cooking show is such a great premise
