I was in Philippines six months ago. I was extorted by a taxi driver in Cebu. He threatened me with a metal pipe and demanded 3000 pesos for a 10 minute ride. Everywhere I went It felt like a war zone with security guards and metal detectors protecting every mall and office building. I am a relatively young male and the only place I felt safe was in Makati/BGC which is literally a barricaded neighborhood. The government is the most corrupt in SE Asia and the people have lost hope. They trash their country coz the citizenry feel little investment in it. Even locals warn me not to wander around. You might have a different impression but by painting a benign picture you potentially endanger your audience.

I will make videos once I'm out of here about what I've experienced and seen here in the region. I leave in a week and see how corrupt this place truely is. You hit it on the nail I trust no one here and keep my head on a swivel in Manila or anywhere in this country. Women can't be trusted or locals. I don't talk much either. They try to flag me down I ignore them 99 percent of the time because it's a scam or plot most likely. Police I don't chat with either, I avoid like the plague and stare down to let them know I'm aware of any BS they try. I've stayed here two years it's a failed state that's why the people don't care anymore anything goes here in 2024 but if you don't have money you'll be in a detention center fast and no way out while living in horrible conditions and the embassies get paid off to let you rot. Luckily I have a little goose egg in case I need to bail myself out before I leave

My wife is from Tacloban, she just came back from there visiting her Family. I live in the PH since I left China 2008, married, two little daughters. Tacloban is not the nicest place in the country. Why don't you go to other places, like Negros or Mindanao, they are different. We live around Dumaguete. Many foreigners here, better infrastructure.
But you're right, PH is completely different to CN. I would say China is for working, Philippines is for living. We live in the coutryside, little farm with animals, sea view down from a mountain, nice cool breeze all the time.... The cities are much too hot, could not stay there more than an hour. Anyway, enjoy the time here.
Regarding safety I feel here in our area perfectly safe. Would never even think of a robbery, we leave our grocery always unattended at our motorcycle, never lock my car, the lock at our home door is broken since years, no need to fix. But the safety in a big city is an issue, that's true.

Hey Gweilo, I have been watching your channel since before my first visit to China a few years ago. I have been twice and loved it both times! Your videos were really helpful. Imagine my surprise when I see these videos from Tacloban, the home city of my girlfriend. I have been there twice already and will return for 4 weeks on 26th August. If you are still going to be there it would be great to meet you for a beer or coffee and a chat (who knows maybe even some interesting content). I have WeChat so I might reach out to you on there too. If not no worries, keep the content coming!

When I was stationed in Japan, a guy from the Philippines said there were lots of pickpockets. He put his wallet in his shirt pocket and closed it with a safety pin. After walking through a crowd he realized someone with a razor had cut buttom of shirt pocket and the wallet had fallen out.

As one African comedian said: "What I find so shocking when I first arrive in the USA was, "Oh my God! There are actually poor homeless White people here."
There were cockroaches all over the service apartment (Azure Urban Resort Residences) that I had rented in Manila, even though the apartment was not cheap as it has an artificial beach complete with manmade waves.
For men looking for entertainment, that's widely and readily available all over the Philippines. However, I spent quite a lot of time in Angeles City patronizing the various bars along Walking Street which is located closed to the Wild Orchid hotel that I stayed in whenever I was there.

It's safe, it's friendly and people will always try and involve you in their celebrations etc. Yes you'll always have a shadier side but you'll get that most everywhere. Walk down O'Connell street in Dublin, people are fighting and pissing and injecting up, I saw non of that. I'd agree wholeheartedly with you on Cebu, loved the place, yes the malls and new developments around IT Park and further out towards SM Seaside, but I found I loved Calbayog more, not only because my fiance is from there and has the local knowledge, but because I'm a country lad and I like the rural feeling there. Once again great video

It's basically the same in all the underdeveloped countries, especially those who were once colonies of some Western powers.
If you're white, you likely come from a developed & comparatively wealthier country such as the U.S. or Western Europe, you get nicer treatment in general because you might be able to in some way to help them go abroad.
Owing to your assumed wealthier background, you might attract more panhandlers. You might even be targeted more often by scammers & petty thieves, but the odds of grievous bodily harm is _less_ because the pepetrators know their government do not want to incur the wrath of your powerful country, in turn making the local authorities more determined to find & punish them.
Kidnapping is a problem, but they're not going to kidnap just any random tourist off the street; if the victim's family was never able to pay the ransom, it'll be a waste of time.

If u stay longer in Philippines, u will eventually realise that Philippines is NOT safe country.
I have encountered attempted robbery in small alley
+ attempted black mail by nightclub owner in collaboration with corrupt police,
+attempted theft of my bag by Philippines immigration
+ attempt by woman to make me pay for all her friend's drinking expenses
+ beggars trying to pressure me to give them money
+attempted scam by driver of horse on street for tourism
+ was caught in shoot out between 2 groups of filipinos shooting guns between each other on street
+heard of police arresting foreigners for extortion +blackmail
    + read about snatch thefts
    + read news about kidnappings
+read news about filipinos killing other filipinos over minor issues
so u need to be very careful +keep watching your back and your camera while in Philippines.

Maybe completely unfounded, but my fear would be that some enterprising locals would presume that, as an older White person, you have some nest egg that they could possibly get a piece of, if they hold you for ransom. I actually was concerned about that in Nanning, when I was there in 2019. The local guys were not at all thrilled to see me ... most of them wouldn't even look at me, much less engage me in conversation. At least the Philippines and America are on the same side, as it were, so that could help.

You are lying.. security cameras everywhere in china.. especially in big cities.. no hoodlum in china.. they are too busy making money than wasting their time talking with white dude from a collapsing part of the world.. the Philippines are forced to side with the global gangster.. when the US finally collapses they will get lynch by the rest of South east Asian country for putting the entire region in a precarious potentially volatile situation..
