She wrote down so many dreams, actually put her mind to it, and made them come true...that is what's so beautiful. The only thing worse than starting something and failing...is not starting something. Following your dreams is an exhausting, draining effort, but the rewards are well worth it all. Love what you do and do what you love. Don't listen to anyone else who tells you not to do it. You do what you want, what you love. Imagination should be the center of your life.
What an absolutely stunning place Bicol is! And I love the fact they embrace spice to the point, they even made it into ice cream (with coconut, not vanilla)...typically ice cream is a way to remedy spice, but I bet the people who created Sili ice cream were like "SIKE! TOO BAD!" 😂So ube is different from taro! Ube is purple yam, while taro is a different species called Colocasia esculenta. Those tricycles remind me of the jitneys when I lived in Jersey City for a few years. We took them to Newport Centre mall all the time because they were way more frequent than the NJ Transit buses, plus it had a sense of community as its main demographic were Latinos as the jitneys were Latino-owned and operated. Jersey City also has lots of Filipinos, I first discovered Jollibee there!

I was born in the Phillipines, but I grew up in Northern California. Proud to be an American, but I'm also proud to be a Filipino because our culture and country is one of the best in the world and everyone who encounters Filipinos knows how friendly and humble they are. If anyone has a bucket list, the Phillipines is a must visit country and you will see that even though the common folks there have little money, they are probably happier than most because of the core values are strong (family and respect). You sir are an incredibly lucky man. Bicolanas are battle hardened from all the volcanic eruptions, bad weather from the pacific that always hits them first, and all the chili in their cuisine. They're loyal, long-suffering and very, very generous with what they have.
My girlfriend is from Bulan, Sorsogon. She's an absolute keeper.

    Hey Drew,
You made my day with this video 😅😅😅, it really touched my heart and brought me to tears. Simple reason : I'm in love with a Phillipines girl too and it's still 53 days to be back there (Rosario Batangas). It feels like eternity to be back there again and enjoy her family life, her neighbors, her village, all these lovely people. I never saw any Philippines video that showed all this in a better way than you did. Thank you for all this insight of a wonderful country. Who knows may be some day we'll unexpectedly meet in any karaoke bar 😁😁😁
All the best for you and your sweet wife and all these lovely kids in the video.
    Martin from Germany

The reason why Filipino spaghetti is sweeter: It is usually made from tomato sauce sweetened with brown sugar and banana ketchup! Banana ketchup was invented during WWII when there was a shortage of tomatoes but plenty of bananas. Combine the two scenarios, and you get the solution of a yellow-brown banana sauce mixed with spices and vinegar dyed red as a substitute for tomato ketchup (and it's delicious).
The genius behind this, Maria Orosa, already came up with so many innovations (including 700 recipes) like this one from freezing mangoes to the palayok oven (which enabled families without electricity to bake) to combat the country's malnutrition, which she returned to the Philippines to do in 1922 after rejecting a job offer at the Washington State government. And she was a leading member of the resistance against Japan. If it wasn't for her, thousands of Filipinos and Americans alike would've died of malnutrition. Since then, banana ketchup became a popular condiment of choice for Filipinos. And the sliced hot dogs were added as part of American influence. It's like Italy and the US got married and adopted a Filipino kid

When you were trying the barong, I was surprised that it actually looks good on you. I saw lots of non-Fil guys wore barong and you're the only one, ever, that I saw wearing or trying it on and looks good. Thank you for embracing our culture and traditions. It only shows how much you really love her. Congrats to both of you, peace, happiness and love forever to both you. Wishing you all the best from Batanguenio in Houston.

Hello Drew, Correction just for context. UBE aka Purple Yam is different from TARO.
Dioscorea alata, also known as purple yam, ube (/ˈubɛ/, /ˈubeɪ/), or greater yam, among many other names, is a species of yam (a tuber). The tubers are usually a vivid violet-purple to bright lavender in color (hence the common name), but some range in color from cream to plain white. It is sometimes confused with taro and the Okinawa sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas cv. Ayamurasaki), although D. alata is also grown in Okinawa, where it is known as beniimo (紅芋). With its origins in the Asian tropics, D. alata has been known to humans since ancient times.
Because it has become naturalized following its origins in Asia, specifically the Philippines, through tropical South America, and the southeastern U.S., D. alata is referred to by many different names in these regions. In English alone, aside from purple yam, other common names include ten-months yam, water yam, white yam, winged yam, violet yam, Guyana arrowroot, or simply yam.
