I analysed over 100 of my subscriber’s sim racing driving, and this is what I found…
There were 3 crucial mistakes that you guys are making on the assetto corsa touge, and making you SLOW in racing games. Let me show you how to fix them.
Using the incorrect racing lines is a mistake a lot of drivers make in sim racing, they fail to visualise the fastest way through a track. Like Ozcar here.
Not only does being off the racing line make him have an intimate encounter with the guard rail, but he’s also not spending a huge amount of time accelerating. Most of what he’s doing is slowing down, and doing damage control.
This is the line ozcar took, it’s all over the place. But, this is the line I would personally take through this complex. After this first turn, I stick to the left instead. This sacrifices some speed as I’m not exiting wide, but it opens up the following corner, allowing me to not only take it at a higher speed, but it also sets me up perfectly for the final corner, a hairpin. Being the final corner before a straight, this hairpin is the corner I want to focus on, because you will gain the most time on a straightaway.
Knewjeez makes a similar mistake on hairpins. He decided on a hug-the-inside line around the hairpins, but this is not optimal on this particular road. He gets on the throttle he is still at peak steering angle, causing him to understeer out of the turn. This is not fast. I would personally brake a lot later into these hairpins, and trail it into the turn with a late apex. Trailing the brakes means we use less steering input, scrubbing off less speed. And, the late apex means we can full throttle a lot sooner, and have a straight shot out of the turn, giving us a higher exit speed.
Hesitation is one of the largest killers of lap times. Even just a quarter second of deciding what you should be doing could be the difference between a W or an L.
Bugatti Wu shows us a prime example of this. This green line is his throttle, red is braking. As you can see he is overlapping both inputs pretty well, and he is very assertive with his braking. Going to 100% instantly, then trailing them off. This is what great pedal work looks like.
However, he also makes a mistake. he lets off the brake to blip the throttle, then leaves a relatively massive gap between the end of braking and getting back on the gas. To close that gap, he could have braked later, or accelerated sooner. You never want to not be doing anything.
Cosmic 64 shows us a different issue however. He isn’t being confident enough on the throttle, and is feathering it through the turn. This constant speeding up, and slowing back down is just wasted momentum.
To go fast, you need to be a weight manager, and a good one at that, but this can be tricky for newer drivers. The easiest way to show you how to manage weight, would be to show you how to NOT do it.
Right here Spin to Win is being a terrible weight manager. He flicks the wheel into the turn, lets off the throttle AND brakes at the same time. This upsets the balance of the car, and causes him to do a massive slide, which he only just about saves. If you want to go fast, you need to be friends with the car, and not upset their balance.
Fast drivers can visualise where the weight of the car is as they drive, and you should practice this too. If you brake, the weight is on the front wheels, accelerate, its on the rears. And of course, if you turn, the weight shifts in the opposite direction.
Your goal as a driver is to try and keep the weight balanced between all four wheels. In it’s most basic form, this is done by only using as much input as necessary. If you steer more than you need to, you’re going to shift more weight than you need to. So, to be a good weight manager, you need to be gentle with the car, and don’t overdrive it.

Im a beginner driver (don't have a license yet) and sim race as a hobby, but for some reason I enjoy driving the car gently and respectfuly more than having constant input or having the best lap times possible. I just enjoy my time behind the wheel and want to be a good (maybe a bit faster than average) driver. Altough sometimes I still step on it, drift a bit and enjoy the sheer power of the car.
Thanks to these videos Im able to learn a lot about driving and being behind a wheel.
There always will be someone faster than me, better driver or a more powerful car, but what matters is the feeling you get when you grab the wheel, shift through the gears and just enjoy the track.

Ironically, with that approach, you might end up being a seriously quick driver.
The fastest ones always drive nice and gentle, with less input, guiding the car rather than forcing it to do stuff.
@@alexwu8077it’s what I always say, you can’t expect to drive fast if you haven’t practiced driving slow!
It’s the same with playing guitar, you practice solos, riffs, licks and songs slowly before you even think about playing them fast because if you try, you’ll make a lot of mistakes. Same goes for simming. Not a lot of people realise this though which is why you’ll find people repeatedly driving off the track on their outlaps. They think they can watch a circuit guide and copy. You watch a guitar tutorial, you still have to practice it slow first.
Funny thing about circuit guides; is that if you’re practicing as much as you should be practicing, you’ll figure it all out and won’t need one. They are good reference but if you NEED a track guide, you aren’t practicing right.
A shame these videos have been becoming way too short for what they are meant to , this one for example lasts 4 minutes and showcases the driving of only 3 drivers out of god knows how many , and rushes the explanation to end as fast as possible, if I remember correctly the current lenght of a video for monetization is 8 minutes minimum , If I was TSRB I would've shown atleast 5 drivers, but ofc im not him and im no one to tell him what to do , however Videos this short go so fast that I might even miss it or not catch the good parts because of it
no honestly, you are quite correct. the information goes by so fast that u basically have no time to study the feedback that he has given. it's like making a youtube short that is too long to actually post as a short. this could honestly be way more in depth imo.
@@rcnumbers3562 What you both need to do is pause the video and think about what he said. If you need the same concept repeated for longer just to get it, when he's already explained it properly the first time, that's user error.

@@SturdivantRacing126 that does work yeah , entertaining wise us a huge flop to see one video of your youtuber finally come out and go by so fast , he already explained all this yeah so expectations are too see more critics over drivers than just 3 ones
@@SturdivantRacing126 oh dont worry, that is something i already do and ofcourse, other sources are available as well. But maybe having different examples of different drivers would be also nice to see. Just to get the point across even better. There is a reason why educational videos are often longer than this.

Still trying to wrap my head around weight balancing with an MR car. Everytime I get on the throttle, too much weight gets onto the rear. Even when drifting I tend to understeer mid-drift. I just couldn't get the hang of it.
Staying on the throttle, even just a tiny amount should be fine. That's what you're supposed to do with a rear engine. You want the rear planted when cornering. Lifting off is typically the issue.
Probably a bad line, setup or a seat issue (lol) that's giving you understeer.

@@totalhydration5240 A different way to look at controlling a MR chassis mid corner is to remove throttle if the front is too heavy and the rear is not lively, and add throttle if the rear is too nervous. In a way, it is almost like a front wheel drive car with how you manage the throttle.
It really is like that at times, adding throttle reduces the steering sensitivity. The weight distribution is totally different though, usually the weight will "feel" like its over the rear axle if you're driving right.
"Not doing anything" isn't necessary a bad thing. Fairly often it might even be beneficial to coast, especially through long sweeping corners.
You will be slowing down so the weight is being shifted forwards, giving you more grip and you are not wasting the said grip on braking or accelerating.
And yes, coasting probably won't be very useful on touge, but on track it makes a huge difference.
Learned this from league races. I used to always be on either pedal. After i stopped doing so and coasted in some corners instead, i found seconds on some tracks.

Then that's fair! Everything is just a general rule of thumb. If a specific car or track require you to leave a gap between braking and throttle for example, you do it.

Yeah but Mr. Bloke, you are driving a Evo which is All Wheel Drive while some people on this list are driving Rear Wheel Drive so I think it's not to fair on all the turns since Awd has more grip and control than Fr, But still nice vid!
You're right, literally every single driver in the video he was criticizing was using the AE86.

@@TSRB Alright then TSRB, here's a small challenge I would ask you to do if you're sure about your statement on "doesn't make that much of a difference, if any at all"
First...I would ask you to drive an 86, a FR 2 door hatchback with the suspension of a pickup truck and slightly souped up with 100-120hp. 4 cylinder gas yada yada lightweight...
The track would be Akina downhill EK, which is around 8.5 km (basing myself on the real deal) and well, pretty much I would ask... could you match or beat the current course record around 4:44 minutes using a RWD? or would you need the power and control of AWD?
Take in mind that the 86 is lighter than a FD and in the skatepark straight is FASTER than the FD, by the end of the straight the 86 can perfecttly hit 170 while the FD barely hits 160... In order to match the 86's speed you would probably have to do an average of 85.5 kmph in order to keep up behind it.
I mean... it really doesn't make much of a difference right? this challenge should be no problem for a skilled AWD-only driver. :)

Great video man. Really good work I love watching these. The only thing I would critique is that coasting isn’t actually a bad thing. It also can be faster. There isn’t a for sure way to say coasting shouldn’t be done. Because it depends on the car. Coasting in cars such as gt3 cars or Porsches. Is actually how they are driven. And that doesn’t mean they coast every corner but it is definitely something to not write off your play book. Other then that great work and keep it up man
Playing DiRT Rally I can attest that coasting can still make you _fly_ on the downhill in certain cars.
Yeah I said it was a general rule of thumb in the top left corner. If a car or track require it, you should absolutely do it. But whilst you're learning to go fast, you want to practice proper pedal inputs. If you start coasting while you're new it'll probably turn into a bad habit.

I agree, though you can slow down the vid manually in yt itself as a compromise.

@@TSRB you could break up your videos into separate ones same length but more about explaining and less rushing. If not then check your most popular videos as they are near or more then a year old when you use to go slower at a more digestible pace.
