- The very first historyteachers project from 2007. Need to learn about the six wives of Henry VIII? Watch this, and you'll be able to sing about them. In your sleep.
(original instrumental)
LYRICS
(Chorus)
Henry, Henry, Henry
Had so many wives that had to die
Henry, Henry, Henry
Had so many
Only one survived
Six wives in all
Oh the things they could do if they hadn’t married Henry
That was their downfall!
(Verse 1)
The first was Katherine by name
She was from Aragon in Spain
Oh, poor Kate!
She married Arthur, Henry’s bro
And when he died loved Henry so
But had to wait!
He took her as his lawful wife,
But that caused her a lot of strife
She couldn’t have a son you see
Their only child was Mary!
REPEAT CHORUS
(Verse 2)
Most infamous was Anne Boleyn
But from the start she couldn’t win
Well, of course!
She was attractive to the king
Though wouldn’t love unless a queen
So a divorce!
She promised Henry a male heir
But had Elizabeth, with red hair
“I have a little neck”, she said
Right before they chopped her head
REPEAT CHORUS
(Verse 3)
Jane Seymour was the next to wed
Betrothed the day Anne lost her head
No one did mourn!
She loved the king and tried with might
And soon much to the king’s delight
A son was born!
Prince Edward was a true blessing
Long-awaited by the king
But soon afterwards Jane would die
And poor Henry was left to cry…
REPEAT CHORUS:
(Verse 4)
Anna of Cleves from Germany
Would be the next wife for Henry
She would not last!
A Lutheran princess though she be
He didn’t like her face, you see
Annulment fast!
He nicknamed her the “Flanders Mare” -
Divorced her without a care
She stayed in England and became
“The King’s Beloved Sister” in name!
REPEAT CHORUS;
(Verse 5)
Henry would be wed again
To a cousin of Anne Boleyn
Kathryn Howard!
A “rose without a thorn”, said he
But her affair forced her to be
Sent to the Tower!
Culpeper was her cousin dear
And her love, so it appeared
This was high treason and so Kate
Upon the block did meet her fate!
REPEAT CHORUS:
(Verse 6)
And now we sing of Katherine Parr
The most kindly of wives by far
Number Six!
Cared for Elizabeth and Ed,
And old Henry’s ulcered leg
He was sick!
After the king had passed away
She got remarried right away
But in a year she left this earth
Had some trouble giving birth…
FINAL CHORUS:
Two Annes, Three Kates
And one precious Jane
But they had to marry Henry!
And it sealed their fate!
Wives: **singing about their terrible fate**
Henry: SING IT GIRLS

The song my year 3 teacher put on all the time when we were learning about henry VIII
Thanks to her, im now very obsessed with history in year 11
Same
Year 11,3? Ah I see you are British like me!!!
During Year 3 My Teacher also put it On all the Time when we were Learning about Henry VIII.
(Sort Of the Reason Why, I'm obsessed with History Years Later.)
Such an ear worm it'll be stuck in my head for days.
Yeah it is catchy
Still like this song. The graphics DO look more clear.
The melody has a creepy sound to it, to me.
I see it was re-uploaded because of the glitching. Honestly thought it was my phone. So I'll say this again THANK YOU for an HD version! It was hard to read those dialogue bubbles in the old one lol
Let's face it - if you don't instinctively start singing this version when the original comes on the radio, you're not a true HistoryTeachers fan! :D
I live in romania and in romania this doesnt appear on the radio so...
Ann of Cleves survived into the reign of Queen Mary I, IIRC.
And she got a dope divorce settlement. IIRC, she had so many properties she never visited all of them.
I thought only Katherine Parr outlived Henry?
@@markalexander3659she died a year later after Henry’s death. Anne of Cleves survived all the way to queen Mary (Henry’s daughter) hopes this helps 🙂
@@Jenny_thabenni Ahh yes, that does help, thanks
@@markalexander3659 In the well known rhyme, Catherine Parr was the one to survive as Queen. Anne of Cleves was the last to die, while Katherine of Aragon was the oldest when she died.
I became aware of ABBA's existence with this. I also remember i heard this song in my 6th year in primary
HELP ANNE BOELYNS HEAD ROLLING I CANT
her head was oval after all 😔
And then Katherine’s head joining Anne’s head
Thanks so much for uploading a version in HD. This one has been a perennial favorite in my classroom.
My high school history teacher showed us this video back in 2012 because we were going to be learning about Henry VIII and he wanted to get us hyped for it. I’m glad other people seem to have similar memories!
As much as I love this song, the historical inaccuracies bug me to no end
There was only one historical inaccuracy that I noticed.

When you reach the Protestant Reformation unit in history class.
Seriously, this song. If you don’t know this song, your history teacher has failed you.
This is far better than Six. Thank you so much for this video. The original was the first video of yours that I saw and I thank you for this.
I like this song but that was too far 😢😢
@johnf.kennedy3394 forget that reply please. That was 4 months ago dont reply

I honestly agree. The musical had so many in accuracies.
@@selinapersaud7629it’s not supposed to be accurate 💀💀
Thanks my AP Euro teacher for this!
Only two surivived and thats Anne of Cleves and Catherine Paar Anne of Cleves surivived all of his wives and Henry
Henry, you must know that Elizabeth is Anne's revenge!!!
Already commented on the old version but: I am actually using this to study for a test.
Kkkkk eu juro que sou viciada nessa versão
Great song, but it really leaves out the juicy parts, like why Henry got an annulment from Catherine of Aragon (fear that the lack of a male heir was God's retribution for incest), why Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard were executed (adultery, which was treason when the right to rule was passed through the king's bloodline) and how Anne of Cleves made out like an absolute bandit for her very short lived marriage.
The only problem though is that Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard didn't commit adultery
@@katherinehoward3950 - You may want to read The Six Wives of Henry VIII, by Tudor scholar Alison Weir. Anne Boleyn likely did not commit adultery, but there was substantial evidence generated about her, largely from Spain, who wanted to punish her for usurping Catherine. Henry held off signing the execution order, but eventually was forced to do.
As for Katherine Howard, there is pretty good evidence that she was having an affair with her cousin, Thomas Culpepper, which started before her marriage to Henry and continued afterwards. She, pretty much alone of Henry's wives, got what she deserved.
@@TechBearSeattle so cheating means you deserve death ? ok
@@lyricaldeceit - Until pretty recently, it was treason for any titled lady, especially the queen, to have sexual relations with anyone other than her husband. The reason was simple: titles were handed down by right of blood descent through the male line, and interfering with that blood descent was equivalent to interfering with the lawful succession of government. And note that titled men were allowed to cheat with impunity: their bastards were obvious, and would have had no legal standing for a claim.
@@TechBearSeattle i know that but by the way you worded it you sounded like you believed cheating deserved dying
This randomly entered my mind after like 10 years
The luckiest wife of Henry VIII was definitely Anne of Cleves
Why?
Anne Boleyn and Kathryn Howard- they were both beheaded so unlucky
Catherine Parr-
She survived but was still forced to marry Henry VIII instead of the actual man she wanted to marry which was Thomas Seymour so unlucky
Jane Seymour -
Lost her life after giving birth so unlucky
Katherine of Aragon-
Married for over 20 years but when Henry wanted to marry Anne Boleyn she had no choice but to leave and never see her daughter Mary again and died of a broken heart so unlucky
Anne of Cleves-
Divorced not long after marrying Henry, she was called ugly even though she wasn’t Henry just felt humiliated after he scared her when he tried to kiss her in disguise but after they divorced she became his beloved sister and was given a home and lived a life of luxury and even witnessed the coronation of her ex-step daughter Mary so she’s lucky
This is SIX’s grandpa
Horrible Histories is SIX’s dad
And SIX is the hated child
Yes although I wouldn't say HATED. I'm a big SIX fan.
@@madeleineallen7758 same TvT but people hate it for being inaccurate
This is why I get a+ thanks to this song in my quiz
Thats much better thank you😁
Anne of Cleaves actually outlived Catherine Parr by 9 years
True but Cathy survived also
Catherine of aragon also survived
Henry VIII may have had six wives, but Catherine Parr had four husbands before Henry. Then, after Henry died, she got remarried. So Catherine Parr had six husbands. Ivan the Terrible in Russia had eight wives. But neither Henry nor Ivan could beat Solomon. According to the Hebrew Bible, Solomon had 300 wives, and if you count their ladies-in-waiting, that brings the number up to 1000!
Wrong, Henry was her 3rd husband, Thomas Seymour her 4th and last .
Am I the only one who had my world history teacher show us this in 7th grade to juice us up for the 1 month choice board she was about to come out with, just me?
a reupload? 😃
HD
Also this morning.
It is the HD version
YES YES YES
Listening to Money Money Money by ABBA and went through a Tudor phase. The moment I heard Anni singing Ah or something I IMMEDIATELY realised I recognised that it was this song.
Anne of Cleves said “I’m sorry, what?” in German, twice. And then, Henry said “Goodbye” in German at 4:05.
i need an instrumental version of this banger
Wouldn’t that just be Money money money by Abba instrumental?
@@paranoidwishes Nah i like historyteacher's remake of the instrumental better
Please, 7th grade me listened to this RELIGIOUSLY
OMG, I love Henry VIII and Catherine Parr
Henry*BLOODY MARY!
Aragon*hehe...
good video hehe
We fr had to watch this in class 2 1/2 hours ago and all but one person disliked it. Ps I wasn’t the one who “liked” it
Catherine of Aragon had many children. Her first child was a stillborn girl. Her second child was a son, Prince Henry. That prince died in infancy. Her third child was also a stillborn son, as was her fourth. Her fifth child was Mary, the only one who survived childhood. The tragedy of Catherine's children was what led to Henry VIII having to divorce her, and she spent more than twenty years as his wife.
Hd of french revolucion 🥰😁?
Soon! Watch this space
abba 🔛🔝
G-idle comeback
Idk but the non hd vid hit different
"Only one survived," not like wife 1 and 4 got DIVORCED and not beheaded
yea but Catherine of Aragon died of cancer during Henry’s reign to be a survivor you had to outlive Henry for some reason
It’s like six
I love love love the queen’s.
Didn‘t three of them (one, four and six) survive and not just the last one?
divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived is how it goes (they class divorce as not surviving)
@@goldenruby4didnt anne of cleves outlive catherine parr?
This song used to scare me so much in my 3rd year of primary school… ✋💀
Henry the eighth’s was a horrible person
I am playing Catherine parr in a play
Telling my kids this was SIX
For Henry’s first wife, she couldn’t control the gender of the baby, Henry should’ve been grateful for even having a baby at all-son or daughter.
This is a bop
uh...no? Anne of Cleves survived Henry as well.
Yes but she was divorced
Wait Stoppppp I’m Now wondering If We should make this Tick Talk Viral
4th grade nostalgia is real
POV The music and the history teacher are married
very weird
You did not know that all Henry's wife's were Tudors before all marry Henry.
i just saw the Cleopatra-fergalicious from 10years ago then checked if there's more😂
Hold on, wasn't it "Anne" of Cleves, not "Anna" of Cleves?
In German we call her Anna von kleve
English: Anne of Cleves
German: Anna von Kleves
@@morana179 But if you're using the English "of Cleves", why insert the German "Anna"? It's just confusing.
