Magnesium is Commonly Deficient in Most Systems
Magnesium deficiency is arguably the most common deficiency. Luckily, it is also one of the simplest nutrients to supplement- you can supplement magnesium with Epsom Salt. This article will discuss how to supplement magnesium with Epsom Salt.

Thanks alot cris, you are the only source of "real information" on these topics! Specially in serbia where nobody knows anything about aquaponisc. And i need to learn from my collage books . You sure speed things alot. Thank you again 😀
I have spent months studying aquaponics and found a great resource at Keiths Ponics Site (check it out on google)
As always your video on the topic was exactly what I needed to know!
Thanks for another great clip Nate!
Great to hear, JT Bear! Feel free to suggest other video topics if you have them. Also, have you been keeping up with our new podcast? podcast.brightagrotech.com | We're hoping to make it the best #aquaponics podcast out there!
I'm betting it already is!
I love your videos. My son and I are studying aquaponics systems together so we can build a very small one for a science fair project. Your videos have been very helpful to us in figuring out how an aquaponic cycle works. Thank you so much for your indepth look into aquaponics.
Our pleasure.
Your welcome its actually called Kackey method. Tks for the comments good luck.
Also helps increase the GH of the water which is good for cichlids and koi.
can you talk some idea about how the sodium act in the system, normally the fish will be safe with salanity water but it seems the plant doesn't like, how to balance?
How often should we add the recommended dose? Before we find our unique required dose rate..
Keep up the Great work. I am working to get my Son to do Auquaponics as a senior project in High School.
Aquaponics/Hydroponics are both incredible learning tools!
It probably doesn't make a difference but should I add the Epsom salt to the fish tank or the growing beds in my DWC system? Thanks for ALL the info and videos. You guys rock! Best aquaponics info source on the web by far.
it doesn't much matter ghog63. I would recommend adding it to your sump or fish tank if possible.
Will the Epsom Salt hurt the fish in my DWC setup?@@ZipGrowInc
is there any need to add Epsom Salt to RO water that's had CAL-MAG added
How much is added if the tank= 20 gallons
Hi you have explained very well. But it would be really helpful if you could let know Im using DWC Aquaponics when we add Nutrient Solution in the tub will the fish get died?? Please advise me I'm the beginner for Aquaphonics
Can I made this in Miracle grow solution? I do hydroponically
Does it increase the pH?
Is additional fertilization necessary in such a system aquaponic?
Fish will not hurt?
Is it eco-farming?
I mean all artificial fertilizers (iron, magnesium itd)
Costs are rising :(
for example kelp/algae is expensive (natural, but...$)
what about seaweed?
The link to the key is broken
wow thanks a lot man
No matter how you're growing if you put too much salt in the mix and that isn't what your plant is deficient in it's not going to be able to suck up enough iron and everything else that it needs
Nate,
What do you use for testing the water in your aquaponics systems and where would I purchase it?
Hi ***** - It's called an API Master Test kit. Pick one of those bad boys up and you should be good to go! Best of luck. #aquaponics #waterquality #chemistry
How we can put Epsom salt to fish tank..
Will Fish die?.. if no how much quantity of epsom can put in a 1000 litter tank? What is the criteria..
I cant find Epsom salt where am at. We do have Ammonium Sulfate can this be used?
No.
I have a tower and my bok choy has spots I'm affraid to add salt BC I don't want to clog up the pump any suggestions
Hey, Thanks for your question. If you're growing aquaponically its important to understand your water chemistry before dosing anything as it might be harmful for your fish; If your growing with good ol' fashioned hydroponics and you're concerned about particulate you can dissolve magnesium sulphate in a cup of warm water before adding it to your reservoir.
Yes just the hydroponics no fish thks
Can you use Sea Salt? Or is there some drawbacks to this type of salt?
Steve Smith Yes, but use it sparingly as it can exclude certain types of crops like strawberries.
can i directly put epsom salt solution to the grow bed will it kill beneficial bacteria in grow bed
Epsom salt exist naturally in the soil , so no harm to beneficial bacteria at low concentration but why grow bed as putting in the sump gives you better distribution.
Dear Dr Storey,
My husband and I have set up two aquaponics systems using your ibc design about 18 months ago. Last summer (we are in Australia) we had phenomenal growth in all our plants. Every day when we went out to check on the system, there would be noticeable growth. It was a much faster method of growing vegetables than in traditional garden beds.
This year something has gone wrong and I am not quite sure what that is. All summer we have barely had any growth. Even my lettuces have been about an inch tall for months. Brassicas barely get any bigger than 2cm. The leaves look healthy, they just don't get any bigger.
My pH is 7.8, we have no ammonia, no nitrites and 40ppm nitrates. This evening I scooped out a half a dozen dead juvenile silver perch.
Do you have any suggestions as to what could be going wrong? We would greatly appreciate any input or suggestions.
+Guadalupe the ph is way to high..... 6.5 to 7 max!
Can't tell exactly but it may cause by denitrification in your system. Do you have a lot of solids in media beds? Do you clean it frequently?
"super soluble" except I landed on this video because mine appeared to participate out, haha
Maybe your water has a high calcium concentration. Mg reacts with Ca and K to form a salt.
