    Make sure you enable subtitles if you didn't understand something.

      I'm pretty sure the defragmentation section is actually called trim
      In other words leaving it on is better for the ssd

    • @alextutorials
      @alextutorials  3 года назад

      @@samsonsanthosh Nope, wrong, TRIM cannot be disabled on the defragmantation section, it's not possible, I've done my research

    • @samsonsanthosh
      @samsonsanthosh 3 года назад +2

      @@alextutorials I never said it can be disabled
      When I go to the defrag option it shows up as trim my ssd
      I left it on by default
      And it's gets done in 2 seconds
      Kingston A400 (120gig ssd)
      On a laptop with SATA 2 interface with 70-100 Mbps average speeds

    • @alextutorials
      @alextutorials  3 года назад

      @@samsonsanthosh But still bud, it's the same thing for me, it shows that it's an SSD and leaving on or off wouldn't make a huge difference in performance but i turned it off (defragmantation ofc) because as i have said on my video, it's decreases the life span of the SSD so yeah

    • @samsonsanthosh
      @samsonsanthosh 3 года назад +1

      @@alextutorials ok listen
      If my memory serves right it only reduces the lifespan of the ssd if it's doing reads and writes constantly
      But trim(from the automatic optimiser) is simply an advance check up for ssds to do it more efficiently
      So that it doesn't do garbage collection when. Your actually doing reads and writes
      In return increasing performance
      If lifespan is what your worried about just make sure you haven't filled it up completely leave 10 percent unpartitioned
      And leave 10-30 percent on your c drive free
      Use it as much as you want it's meant to be used the more you spend on checking every bit your gonna waste time for nothing
      But ya other than windows 7 where it showed defrag instead of trim it showed trim ssd on windows 10 that's just my take on it I'm not going to force it on you
      And I'm pretty sure it doesn't affect its lifespan since it's a simple garbage collection task

    • @alextutorials
      @alextutorials  3 года назад +3

      @@darth9817 I'm not really good at explaining things but basically the "prefetcher" in general was used back in the Windows XP days and still works to this day and what it basically does is that it’s a method that allows a computer to silently fetch the necessary resources needed to display content that a user might access in the near future so resources can be accessed in less time. In simple terms it fetches (gathers) the required/important files to run the software and if the user runs the same software again in the near future, it will be opened very quickly so by enabling that setting in the Registry Editor, it will make almost all software and whatever you open up in less amount of time. Hope i helped

    i heard that optimization for ssd in windows 10 is good because it's not defragmenting it, it's trimming the ssd

    • @alextutorials
      @alextutorials  4 года назад +3

      Defragmentation is for HDDs whereas as you told me for SSDs is TRIM, TRIM automatically TRIMs the SSD without you knowing it, it's not like defragmentation on the HDDs which you can see live what's defraging. Someone said this in a forum "SSDs don't need to be defragmented, because there is no physical head movement. Using defrag on a SSD lowers the life expectancy of a SSD." I totally agree with this guy.

      I'm pretty sure there is an option in the BIOS on laptops that says something about "Fast Boot" or something like that. There is an option however on Windows itself to turn on "Fast Boot" but that will only apply when you SHUTDOWN your laptop/PC then booting up your computer again. Enabling this setting and then restarting, that will not affect anything, as i said, this setting only applies when you shutdown and then boot it back up after the shutdown, that's it. If you want i can tell you how to do it if you'd like. Haven't tried this setting before but this setting is recommended so yeah, if you want this setting enabled tell me but all in all, my pleasure helping you bud! :D

      Thank you!. If you go to "Services" and find "SysMain" and read the description in the left side it says "Maintains and improves system performance over time.". This setting is better for HDDs because this setting apparently looks which apps you run most frequently and after a couple of days or so these most frequently used apps will get preloaded in the RAM, so next time you run these apps, it will open much faster compared to before. On the other hand, SSDs are super fast compared to HDDs and this setting for SDDs is unnecessary because again, SSDs are much faster than HDDs and that's why SysMain should be disabled

    It worked very well for me. But the thing is, it only made my c drive faster(it's an hdd and I use it as the boot drive), but my ssd didn't really improve. Are those tips only working for the c drive or is there another reason?

    • @alextutorials
      @alextutorials  3 года назад

      If you have an OS on your SSD, head to your 2nd OS on your SSD and try the methods there. If you have only 1 OS and it's on your HDD, ofc the methods will apply there cuz you are doing these methods on your OS and these methods will get applied to your main drive where your OS is installed, in your case it's your SSD. You basically cannot improve performance on your SSD since it does not have an OS installed, so yea that's basically it.

    • @alextutorials
      @alextutorials  4 года назад +1

      I'm not an actual pro in PCs yet, i am advanced i can say. Honestly, i don't own an optane drive and i'm not sure if my SSD steps work with optane, you can of course try it, it won't hurt the optane drive in any way, the steps may simply not work or may improve it a little bit. I can't tell you to buy an SSD just to do these steps, if you are happy with optane, there is no need to upgrade to an SSD. Also, optane is a tad faster than SSDs but the difference is minescule, you can barely tell the difference. I'd rather have an optane than an SSD IMO. If i were in your shoes, right now, i would try the SSD steps on the optane and see if it makes it a tad faster, otherwise, if the steps didn't help, then you have to stick with optane, either way optane is already quite fast in general

So, here's the thing, 4GB is "enough" (i put it in quotation marks cuz right now, in 2021, they are not enough, you'll see why) but i put it in quotation marks because it's enough to run whatever you want if you are only working on that laptop and not gaming BUT the most important part is that if you upgrade to 8GB of RAM, your battery life will decrease, not a whole lot but it will decrease by a bit so that's something to consider as well but don't worry, upgrading to 8GB of RAM will not make your battery drain like 10% more lol, it will make a 1% difference. If your laptop is working fine and the RAM is not full when you're working, why bother upgrading to 8GB of RAM? If 4 is enough for you on what you're doing, just don't upgrade and save money for something else. Idk what laptop you got cuz idk if your laptop is capable of going to 8GB of RAM, most laptops do but not older ones. If you DO consider upgrading to 8GB of RAM, make sure you buy the SAME RAM stick as your already installed RAM cuz if you get a different RAM stick, the speeds will differ and may not be compatible with your laptop but do as you like.
      All in all, if you want to upgrade to 8GB of RAM, go for it BUT your battery will decrease by a very small amount BUT you will see a huge difference in performance so do as you like, don't take my opinion only, ask other people if you'd like

      I'm pretty sure these are cache files and folders that did not get deleted. So what i want you to do, you need to go to Windows Explorer > Your C drive (Your SSD) > Right click > Properties > General > Disk Cleanup. There you will see a window with options below. Look what's the biggest file there, if you see like 5GB+, then it needs to be deleted. To delete all of these files, check every single box then click "OK" in the bottom right corner. It will give you another window, just click "Delete Files" then wait for that to finish. If you did not understand, watch this video from 4:04 - 4:35. This will do the trick :)

      Honestly, write speeds have never been stable so don't expect to have stable write speeds cuz they fluctuate a lot, don't expect write speed to stay stable at 2000 MB/s. If you are writing something big to the SSD for a long time, the write speed drops cuz the SSD heats up and at some point the write speed drops. That doesn't necessarily happen everytime but it happens quite a lot if you're writing something big at the SSD for long periods of time. Pretty sure you know what i mean. Anyways, why would TRIM damage your SSD when it's an SSD feature lol? It is kinda the same thing as defragment but defragment just puts the lost files in the correct place where they should be. TRIM on the other hand deletes files that are not being used by the SSD anymore and that can free up space. I mean, it's pretty much self-explanatory so yeah. That's basically it.

If you go to your SSD's software and you look for a setting called "TRIM" it will say "TRIM Enabled" even with defragmentation disabled. A different way to check if TRIM is Enabled is to open CMD as administrator and if you copy paste this command to cmd "fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify" and you hit Enter, if the results is like that "NTFS DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Disabled)" then TRIM is enabled, do not get tricked because on CMD it says (Disabled) it's actually enabled. If you get in the results at the the number 1 (Enabled) then the TRIM function is disabled, so yea. Your SSD trims itself automatically and disabling defragment will not change the TRIM command at all, it will work like nothing happened. TRIM deletes unwanted files or in other words useless files that take up space. Yes it deletes files BUT not personal files.
      The command fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify basically checks if the TRIM command is enabled or not and if it enabled, it will show up as "0" and if it's disabled, it will show up at "1"

      @@sarveshm6779 Well first things first, how many years is this particular SSD? SSDs have 3-5 year warranty and tbh if it's still in warranty, you can take it to the manufacturer or a certified repair shop if you'd like and they can have your SSD checked and fixed (if possible). The way you told me that you get BSODs, inaccessible files, SSD freezing in general etc etc, that just means that your SSD is slowly dying because this many issues on a single drive is a warning and it tells you that your SSD is going to die soon BUT that could not be it, that could simply be that Windows itself is having problems. What i suggest you to do is you either do a fresh/clean install of Windows on that same drive, use it for a couple of days and see it the problem still occurs or if it's still in warranty, take it to a repair shop to get your SSD checked out but if your SSD is old af for example like 5+ years, then buy a new one tbh, they are not that expensive nowadays.
      Yea i know you may not like the idea of doing a fresh install of Windows on your SSD but you gotta do it if it's your last resort. You wouldn't like your SSD die out of nowhere just like that with all your files in it, that would be horrific. So yeah, do what i said.
      And to answer your question if you need to optimize your SSD and how to do it, dude, you are on my video called 4 steps to optimize your SSD, just follow the steps and it could speed it up a little.

      1. Have you installed the latest drivers for the NvME?
      2. Your NvMe is an NvME SSD so it probably runs at SATA speeds, not sure
      3. If you have other storages such as a secondary SSD or Hard Drive, they may be sharing the speeds to each other and that limits the NvME speed going to full speed.
      4. The speed may be limited cuz the port itself is an PCIe 2.0 and not 3.0
      Honestly, it could be many things and i cannot tell you an exact answer. Can you go to your BIOS and look for a setting about NvME speeds or ports speeds?

      @@alextutorials I have checked every settings on BIOS, i have done every updates, (bios and the offical driver updates of my ssd) but still it is the same. I use only NvME SSD, not any other drives. Windows settled on this SSD, all my games and softwares are settled in here. Now i checked, my motherboard's M2 slot supports PCI 2. Gen, i guess i found the main reason. :) I didn't know PCI 2. Gen slots not allow to max speed of NvME SSDs. Or i assume that the other probable reason may be my CPU, i use i3 9100f and this CPU doesn't support 3000MHz ram frequncy, now i guess it also doesn't support 3,5 GB Read Speed SSDs. That's what i understand from the situation.

    • @alextutorials
      @alextutorials  4 года назад

      @@byEnesTalha Now i get it, the main reason is your port. So your M.2 is a PCIe 2.0 x2 which the maximum speed as it says on this website (www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Overview-of-M-2-SSDs-586/ Look at the graph below) is 800MB/s whereas the PCIe 2.0 x4 is 1.6GB/s and so on. And if you look at your motherboards website it says "1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 SATA and PCIe x2 SSD support)", you see that it says "PCIe x2" so it uses the PCIe x2 speed which as i mentioned above, the max speed is 800MB/s, so that's why your NvME SSD doesn't run at 3.4GB/s as your NvME specs say. I don't know that if you had gotten just a plain NvME and not an NvME SSD, the speeds could've been different cuz your motherboard says at the end of the sentence i pasted here says "...and PCIe x2 SSD support" so i think if you had gotten a plain NvME, the speeds could've been higher, i could be wrong but that's what i understand. Honestly, i'd just stick to 880MB/s cuz it's still a high speed at the end of they day. I have a Samsung 860 EVO connected to a SATA 2 port (my motherboard does not support SATA 3) and the max speed i get is 284MB/s. If i had gotten 880MB/s, i would still be happy even if it does not hit max speed, so you just have to stick with that speed for now

      @alextutorials  3 года назад +1

      @@clericksaragena4358 Well yeah it would still work ofc lol but something to keep in mind as well is that defragging is only for HDDs and not for SSDs cuz SSDs as i said in the video, have NAND flash chips in them so yeah. Keep that in mind. Of course though defragging will not make your SSD die in a few months, it will decrease it's lifespan which is something to worry about (not sure by how much it decreases the lifespan, it must be a very very small amount but still) so defragging it like 5-10 times in total, you shouldn't worry about it
