Thanks for watching, y'all! Personally I like the Alpha Omega more, it has a thicker and just different flavor sound that I'm really digging. What do y'all think?!
Patrick Hunter i prefer the b7k... that pedal sounds dirty as hell. Its like an unchained beast!!
I think the Alpha Omega is a better all-around tone, but I still think I'd go for the B7k for those really gritty tones. Both are awesome though! ...I wonder how all three pedals sound together? lol
#teamB7k
The b7k sounds "angrier", a real turn on for me! Why does yours have such a cool graphic on? I've never seen one like that.
Hey Patrick... great job dude! I concur totally on the Alpha Omega. First time I seen this was during a one-off video from Scott Devine on the Alpha Omega. He was not sponsored by them, he just wanted to show us all what a really great pedal it was. :)
B7K: "Check out ma tones!"
Alpha-Omega: "No, check out *these* tones!"
Duality: "FUCK your 'tones' - SLUUUDGE!!!"
ha ha ha ha ha ha
DoYouFeelLucky ahahaha
😂😂😂😂
That moment when you realise that the sound you liked the most was with no pedal was engaged! Thanks for the video!
Same here, a tiny tiny little bit of growl is the way
Darkglass deserves every bit of hype they have been getting lately. Such amazing products. And you sir.... *stands up and applauds* You're steadily becoming my favorite bassist ever with each and every video you put out. Just amazing playing and riffs and mixes. Just everything! Even your clean tone sounds like it comes from some special thousand dollar pedal just because it's you playing lol
Hulk Slayer Thank you SO SO SO MUCH, man! Can't tell you how much that means to me!
The Duality pedal engaged and I thought I was listening to Kyuss back in the 90’s again!
one thing is for sure: the duality makes no prisoners! i love it!
+keziahj hahaha right?!
I still don't know which one is the best for me but the tone at 5:10 is mindblowing. Great presentation, thanks for that.
THANK YOU PATRICK!!!
THIS was how I hoped to hear and compare: very clear differences and the Alpha Omega is truly a wonder: gonna share this on TalkBass!
I dig the groove you used for this test. Sweet playing. Totally appreciated all three pedals, but every time the B7K was engaged my brain just said "yeah, that's it!" So thanks for that.
ordered the A/O earlier today....This just cements the fact I made the right choice....good work dude!
I've been waiting for this video. I really like the B7K and the A/O. Just by listening the B7K has won me over with its aggressive high end "teeth" but I'm willing to bet that the A/O cuts through in a mix better with its more subtle mid range grit "teeth." But then again, I guess that can be an argument of how to eq.
Robert Gibbs just what I was thinking too. I love the sound of the bk7 in this video, but have a feeling the AO would cut through a mix better. And in my case, I'm best off going for the AO. Such a hard decision haha
Congrats on a great video! Have to admit I wasn't remotely interested in the Alpha Omega until you switched to the Omega engine. Definitely has its own sound but surprised by how similar it sounds to the b7k.
Alpha Omega all day. That thing sounds amazing. But your Jazz, clean, sounds pretty damn amazing as well. Nice comparison vid.
I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed watching your videos since finding your cover of Descensus. You rock! Your videos have introduced me to a lot of great bands. Please do some more covers.
Kevin Dilts Thanks dude, covers are rough for me because of the copyright claims that come with them and I've had a few videos that were taken down because of the copyright claims but I'll get working on a few more!
Another great video mate. Definitely killed my GAS for the A/O, to my ears the B7K is so much better and it's more suited to what I play.
You know a manufacturer has done something right when people are arguing which one of their distortion pedals is the best. The range of opinions here is awesome for people looking to find their own voice with one of these
love that riff, had to learn it so now I'm playing it too! not quite as fast yet mind you lol. For me it was the B7K on almost every setting, great vid thanks i just subscribed.
Alpha Omega is the best bass overdrive I've ever heard, and is super versatile. I got one brand new for $200 on reverb 😎
Really digging the AO. The way it drives sounds a bit more complex, thicker, more sophisticated. It doesn't sound as in-your-face as the B7K, but sounds bigger.
AO > B7K
Was looking forward to a straight up comparison of these! Thanks for once again delivering! Keep killing it with those riffs dude.
I really like my B7K but I really want an AlphaOmega pedal. I'd use both quite often interchangeably, so to have a huge array of tones to mess with would be awesome. Also you're one of my favorite bass players on RUclips. Your demo videos on pedals are the best. I just like the way you structure your videos and give your thoughts about it.
Awesome demo, even more awesome riff. I'm an intermediate guitar player that just recently became a beginner bass player, but I'm going home tonight to try and figure that riff out haha.
When you give me the videos I didn't know I wanted, thanks dude!
That B7K is a beeeeaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssst
Where my Tech 21 VT Bass guys at? We kill this shit!
+Zubair Patel Send me one to demo and I'll put em face to face and see which sounds better!
Patrick Hunter please do that!!!!!!!!!! im debating on switching
Amazing demo as always Patrick!
Great comparison well done, was necessary put face-to-face the b7k and the new AO. Maybe a supersymmetry put before brings a new information . Congrats Patrick
Well, I just could not help my self and I went and bought one. It is amazing. Still a little pricey in my mind but I think it is worth it. Darkglass is changing the way we play bass and I love their stuff.
Nice jam brotha. We have similar playing styles. I'm always glad to see a fellow picker out there 😁
That groove was disgustingly good
nice!!! great job as always brutha. Those pedals are awesome...I still want a vintage ultra.
Pretty catchy riff, Patrick.
Thank you for something I didn't even realize I wanted ! Love this video
Joseph Gonzalez Thanks for watching, Joseph! Glad you liked it!
This video made me appreciate my b7k even more and diminished my desire for an alpha omega and especially for a duality. The latter just isn't it for me.
Spot on. I'm using all three engines (VMT, B7K, AO) for different gigs lately and am really starting to dig the AO with blend near 12 o'clock most of all - definitely it's unique sweet spot IMO. Cuts through with amazing definition like the B7K/B3Ks, but also seems to sit in the mix a bit better (to me, at least).
Yeah im definitely pickin up a b7k as soon as i can. That duality sounds like the worst pedal ever made, as far as i can see in this video.
Patrick Verheij me too
Patrick Verheij More midrange control on the B7K is what sold it to me.
Don't think I didn't notice the "Hello, my name is JEFF" in the back.
I love your videos man. Super informative, great musical ideas and playing, and really well produced. Your sound is incredible even before you engage any of the pedals. What is your signal chain before engaging the effects? Is that a direct sound, mic'd, what? Thanks.
Please make a video with everything turned on xD
+Marcos Gomes I'm working on a video very similar to that!!!
I'm listening through my phone which is a terrible idea but i think i like the b7k for it's Tool/QOTSA versatility. I want something i can turn on with that sound.
I am so getting the Alpha Omega. My B7K Ultra and Duality needs company.
Jonathan Reichenbach One big family!
You know what I hate about videos like this…..is I realize just how bad I am at bass😂😂 good video man if I can play half that before I die ill be a happy man🤘🤘🤘
Hey Patrick! Great video! Nice sounds you got as well! What's your chain looking like other than the pedals, for this video?
Is it hitting an amp/amp sim or IR after the pedals? Thanks!
Both B7K and AO are very capable of producing great tones. I enjoyed all the B7K sounds, but I found that only the last two settings used for the AO were interesting (when it was compared to the Duality). The Duality seems great but definitely not for me.
Fuck DAAAAAMN, your bass tone is so, SO HOT, YOU ROCK!!!
My name eh Jeff
NICELY done!! Thanks for the great vid!
Great demo mate!
hey Patrick! can you please tell what did you do in post? or what were you running in your daw? because i can't believe that this tones are raw (without amp sim and/ or IR) thanks in advance !
I asked him 30 times for this.
I really like the Alpha Omega! Can you do a comparison of the Vintage Microtubes vs thr Alpha Omega? I'm wondering which one will work better for low gain.
Thinking of getting the duality purely for almost synth like textures and just how intense it can get. Add other effects to that for max fun
I have been looking for this comparison for a while now. Brilliant video!
Can you do a video comparing the b7k with ao with the blend knob in the middle?
Love the groove as well!
The time playing the Duality is too short, in front of the two others pedals >> then, it's not enough to evaluate the sound of this great fuzz pedal. (fortunately, I know you have made excellent videos about it ;-) )
this is a perfect example of a good comparison should be... and also it demonstrates that in order to have a great tone you must begin with the bass.. note the great tone he has with all of the pedals off... then he starts kicking pedals in and oh my... but he had a great tone from the beginning... this video also proves that the Alpha Omega is a kickass distortion but on its own lacks some depth and growl that the B7K offers... so you should have them both... LOL... (not associated with Darkglass Electronics in anyway, even though I´d love to...) Alpha Omega and B7K is the winning combo!!!
Hey Patrick. Great video. What is your signal chain excluding the pedals. Your setup sounds great even dry!
Pete Mitchell thanks man! My chain for this video is Line 6 UX2 - Darkglass pedals - Jazz bass. I'm using the normal clean tone I made in POD Farm and the real thick and meatiness of my tone comes from the Seymour Duncan SJB3's pickups in my jazz bass!
Sounds awesome! Those pickups are super sweet.
I've noticed in your videos how much better the SD 1/4 #'ers sound over stock J pups. How are they for noise? If I had J-bass I'd favor the noiseless pups.
Hi Patric!
Your sound is great :) how is your setting in pod farm? Dou you have a screenshot or something else for me?
Thanks!
Sounds awesome!
awesome shoot out.. torn between which Microtubes to go with. Both pedals have a great drive sound but I think Im leaning towards the B7K
Excellent video, thanks
Im still NOT paying nearly 400.00 dollars for a distortion pedal.
I have the B7K Ultra and believe me, it's worth the money.
American Musical Supply has up to 8 payment options ... I dont like hte idea of paying $400 for a pedal but that softens the blow. I dont think theres any bass prepamp/ distortion that can compete with this bad boy.
the alpha omega ultra is worth the cost with a strong EQ, overdrive capability, the DI port, and a kickass Cab sim to make it amazing even without a head.
I hear that!
Something they don't really show on YT is how well the gain/level/blend, works on these pedals. They really let you craft a more angry version of Your Sound. I have a B7K Ultra - worth every dollar.
Honestly, I have been looking for a good bass fuzz for a while, and settled on a very un-likely candidate - MXR M84 deluxe fuzz, that pedal's dry/wet separate knobs is a god sent.
Hi Patrick here is Patrick, form Brazil funny ! One question. What are those pickups you have on your bass?
The b7k has much more clarity (to my ears)
Larry King exactly!!!!
@@carloskuhn yeah
The darkglass seems to keep its cool with high gain, Micro tubes gets screaming, Duality sounds too muddy for my taste.
b7k is bright and almost harsh. AO is smoother with more mid growl akin to vintage gear. both sound great alone, not sure about in a mix. I prefer the b7k with low gain and AO with high gain.
If you were to run something like this to a Bass Head would you run it through the front or through the effects loop? I just got a Mesa Boogie D800+ Subway But not overly crazy about the gain you get from it.
Can someone please tell me where this riff come from????!!!! LOVE IT!
crushing riff!
Ugh now I want an AO even more... B7K always sounds a bit toppy and harsh to me and the Duality lacks definition. I have a Vintage Microtubes and it sounds great but it's not perfect for heavy distortion I think. AO is just right: deeper sound than B7K and doesn't get fuzzy with higher gain. An A/B with VMT (any version) would be really helpful, then I'd be able to judge what an AO would sound like with my bass. Nice riffing as always btw, you're pretty much my go-to guy for Darkglass demos.
the B7K sounds nasty af
Thx for this vid...Though I was actually looking into the Vintage Ultra when the AO came out. May be leaning more towards the AO. Still like the sound of that B7K though.
Thank you so much for this!!
Gil Paul Thanks for watching, Gil!
The pleasure's mine! Hard to find good pedal comparisons for bass...especially the newer ones that im seriously considering adding to my setup
I used to stack gain pedal to get a univocal super fuzz tone .. then Josh of JHS made the supreme which nails that tone ..
I used two stacked .. these pedals are super pricey so I don’t know if I’ll ever get to try one..
Great video man, I love your stuff, but honestly the Duality needs some love. It kinda snapped your tone's neck, and I think you could've addressed it more.
how does the B7K and the Alpha Omega sound stacked?
Is the MXR bass DI anywhere near comparable to the AlphaOmega?
How many cameramen have you?
The Duality does not even belong in this comparison. The other two pedals are in a league of their own. The bite, the growl, the definition of the b7k and the A/O just sets them so far beyond the duality. I love the mid-high end definition of the b7k but I also love the versatility of the A/O. The b7k feels bittier and raw while the A/O offers slightly mellower version of that same bite and rawness.
what the adaptor using for alpha omega? how much the ampere consumption?
guys do you know any video that combining the darkglass not a vs set up? i have b7k and i want to add another pedal to add some more distortion.
Is is possible to get the B7K to sound more like the Alpha-Omega by rolling back the treble?
Nope. The design of the circuit is just too different. It's possible to get the Vintage into the territory of the Omega side, but the A·) has both a thickness to the bottom and cut to the the top that the Vintage can't quite match.
Thanks, Matthew. I guess I'm going to have to get my hands on one of these and try it for myself!
This video helped a lot, but idk if I want the b7k or the alpha omega
Get yourself to a music shop and try your bass through the small versions, see what distortion tone you like, then think about what features you think you'll want. That's how I ended up with a B7K Ultra.
hey fellows, who knows if there any difference between b7k and b7k ultra?)
What is that bridge?
You are the BEST
Mitch Baker Nah dude, YOU ARE
meanwhile i'm sitting here like hannibal burress going "pedals is the same"
Could someone do a demo of Darkglass stuff using fingers instead of a pick?
+Mark Hopkins Each one of my individual demos of their pedals have parts that I use my fingers instead of a pick
Don't you have a vintage to also compare?
+Leiria65 I do yes, but most people were comparing the Alpha Omega to being the circuitry of the B7K and Duality in one pedal so I wanted to try those specific ones side by side
Patrick Hunter I see. So no comparison with the Vintage then?
why your hand is shaking?
"0:16" JEFF
Tabs?
Duality sounded like a child's toy compared to the other two. But with no doubt, the alpha omega just rulles them all! Too bad i cannot aford one :(
Saved the worst for last on this one lol.
Theres no winner here IMO.
I must be missing something... Why do people like this stuff so much?
this bass player didnt use the OMEGA of Darkglass!! he just use the ALPHA
Guess you didn’t bother watching the entire video before commenting
o Som já estava bom sem os pedais.
Duality sucks, period.
your "clean" tone is too colored to have an accurate test.
Is the MXR bass DI anywhere near comparable to the AlphaOmega?
X Rocker Not even in the same ball park man. Not dissing on the MXR, but it doesn't touch any Darkglass pedal. I had the MXR Bass DI and sold it for the Ampeg SCR-DI. If I had the money I'd probably be running some flavor of Darkglass with the Ampeg or possibly get rid of the Ampeg. Hope that helps.
I had expected you to say that. Lol! Thanks that really helps.
X Rocker of course, the MXR is also a DI; these pedals only have 1/4" outputs.
Dave Starns they have direct xlr outs
