Holy Crap! What a PHENOMENAL demo! That was, literally, the perfect, non-talking demo! Just really great playing along with smart, deliberate, measured knob turning. You covered all the ground we need covered. I'm gonna be looking for your demos. Sub'd. Well played, sir!
Hey Chris killer video showing all the aspects from clean and to distortion. Awesome pedal Very tempting to add it to my collection. Keep up the great work and looking forward to more videos
Awesome demo! I've been considering upgrading my Alpha Omega to Ultra, and this was probably the last incentive. Graphic EQ & Cab sim are just awesome additions.
Really like your cleaner tones around 3:00-3:35ish. All the gritty distortion sounds great as well but that Warwick sounds very nice with the cleaner tones as well. I want a Warwick ugh!!
Hey Chris! Can you confirm that at 8:57 with the EQ set flat, there is no distortion introduced in the tone when the Bypass switch is ON? I am wondering if this pedal can be used a clean preamp without any distortion when only the Bypass is engaged.
Hey Nihal! Yes if you don't engage the distortion footswitch the signal remains clean. That's the whole purpose of the Ultras, to combine clean and distorted sound in 1 pedal.
I love the sound of this pedal, but its never tested how i would use it does Dark Glass have stores here in the US that sells them so I can try out my rig with it. How does this work when used in conjunction with other non-dark glass effects such as octave and compression. And how would it sound on a fretless bass with flatwound strings...stuff like that..Dont get me wrong I am just a cheapskate when it comes to something i am not trying out physically I dont want to spend the $$ and end up not being able to find a use for it or it doesnt work with my current rig...
Just ordered one. Super tough decision. This AO or the B7k? I watched your two videos quite a few times and it just seems that there’s a tighter distortion with the Alpha O. I’m not going for this just for the distortion. This pedal just seems like it will expand my current amp better than the B7k. Oh my. We’ll see.
Hey Ibra, glad you like it! Apart from the fact that you can have the cabinet simulation in the direct output, I think that using the XLR from preamps as DI provide a "better" signal in mic levels.
Please can someone explain me the point of having a pre amp pédale when one is playing on an amp with its own pre amp system? Other question : If I put a reverb after this pedal, will it sound good? I heard some people complaining about this pedal not having a FX loop but don't understand why because according to me, a OD or distortion pedal doesn't have to go in the FX loop. Thank you guys
Hey there! The whole point of having a preamp is to tweak the sound exactly to your liking (or based on your amplifier settings) without changing anything on your amp. It also allows you to run straight to FoH - mix desk without an amp. So with the Ultras you can have 2 extra "channels - sounds" apart from your amp. About the FX-loop ,allows you to place effects between the pre-amp section where it gets its tone and the power section where it amplifies the sound. Reverb, delay and modulation effects work better that way when overdrive- distortion is added. I have been playing direct with no amp, just my pedalboard setup for the last 2.5 years just placing an Ultra pedal or the DSM Noisemaker cabsim in the last part of my chain straight to FoH without any issues.
@@ChrisKollias hanks for the answer helped me a lot, as I already have an omicron, I'm going to buy a microtubes 900 thas the b3k distortion, so I will have different flavors
Hello Anthony, yeah in general I don't add much post processing so the video can get an actual representation of the sounds used. In the first track compression was added in the whole mix and in the rest takes I have just made a low/high cut for the edges like most typical recordings.
Not necessarily. I know many bass players that range from pop punk to metal that all use darkglass. This particular pedal is aimed at metal players since this pedal was inspired directly by, and made in collaboration with Jon Stockman from Karnivool based on his ridiculously awesome bass tone in the song Goliath. If you're looking for a bass drive that isn't quite as over the top, a b7k may be up your alley.
Andrew Lynch thanks for that Andrew. I like so many of the features of this preamp- especially the cab simulations and the graphic EQ. Just would find no use whatsoever for the distortion!
I just bought this pedal (April 2023) and five years later this demo is the best one I’ve seen on RUclips.
This is probably the greatest pedal demo I’ve seen. Not just the playing and lack of yapping, but just the no bs approach with how thorough it is.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!

Hi Chris! Excellent demo of the pedal! Phenomenal sound and seems to have endless possibilities from such a small device!
Thanks a lot George! Glad you liked it!
Really nice job! I wasn't gonna order one till I saw this video......I'm sold. Mine will be here Monday.

Can anyone explain what are those two bands? On the left next to 250Hz and on the right next to 3kHz?

Mark I'm in the same hard decision... And B7K Ultra is a little lower prize.
@@panzerbero I ended up with the B3K pedal, and will get this in addition. One pedal is never enough :)
This maybe a little off subject, but what strings are you playing on your Dolphin 5-string in this video please?
Wait you had the foot switch mod control on the you turned then you turned the distortion off how? Hold it for a second?
Does the blend control also affect the signal when the distortion is turned off?
Hello Tom, no it doesn't.. It affects the distortion engaged only
Yea dude!
Me you and Mr Excane need to grab a beer!
Maybe NAMM '19 who knows :P
Of course !
Awesome video.
Could you explain the difference in using direct output and output . For recording?

Warwick and darkglass ooff.
If I had a WAL MK 1 bass and had this pedal could I achieve the Justin Chancellor sound?
Hello, sorry for the late reply! With certain settings you can ;)
Hey where did you get the Nolly's mega melt impulse?
Hey Matt, it's included in the Darkglass Suite impulses. When you connect one of the ultras you can load your cabsim with it from the list.
if I have pedal alpha omicron would be more ideal I buy a microtubes x7 to have a mix of timbres, or have an alpha omega ultra?
Hey man, sorry I missed that. I think combining different flavors is the best choice
@@ChrisKollias hanks for the answer helped me a lot, as I already have an omicron, I'm going to buy a microtubes 900 thas the b3k distortion, so I will have different flavors
I just got the Alpha Omega Ultra, but without the USB cable !? U can tell me which USB cable I need for use the Simuation amp? Thanks
Jasonic Multiverse Hello! Any micro USB cable is fine ! I used the cable of my smartphone
Thank u Chris ! I will search one for me .... For the price, don't undrestand why Darkglass don't give a cable with the pedal :)
Bass, dark glass, interface, daw. Can I get these sounds just using these?
Hello Anthony, yeah in general I don't add much post processing so the video can get an actual representation of the sounds used. In the first track compression was added in the whole mix and in the rest takes I have just made a low/high cut for the edges like most typical recordings.
Oh ok. Great video by the way much appreciated. I’m just asking do I need anything else to use the product or just those things I listed?
Thanks! Well that's the chain I am using for my video: Bass -> AOU-> Audio Interface -> DAW
What is an aou? Dumb question
Alpha Omega Ultra acronym ;)
Do I take it Darkglass stuff is mainly for players who do Metal?
Well most people who use them are into it. I am using them for every session I have to do, due to their versatility
I'm even using mine on Country gigs. It's super clean and very responsive to touch.
Not necessarily. I know many bass players that range from pop punk to metal that all use darkglass. Robbie J yeah I’ve used my Vintage B7K on Country, blues, and pop stuff!
Deadly little pedal! My wallet wishes I didn't see this video.
Same here 😥
Whats he using to record?
Hello, what do you mean? The chain is: Bass -> AOU -> Audio Interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i4) and for DAW Cubase 9
