I don't wait darkglass to put out a new pedal, I wait for Chris video on it and to know what kind of magic they both produce. Kudos Chris! For Another awesome video.
You my man, just sold a pedal... Hands down, you've made my whole life abit easier, by going over all the functions and the way that it works together. Thank you!
Cool pedal and very nice demo. Please darkglass, next time you do a demo video have a few different basses as well as not all basses sound the same as a Nolly Dingwall. Not even all dingwalls sound the same as the Nolly. It’s just that every single demo has the same bass over and over.
I love this review from the technical standpoint. The EQ in the bottom right, comparisons of various setups. However I have a feeling that for most bass players that want to use distortion pedals in live playing, they do not play that many solos, but usually stick to the rythm, and want more doomy, bottom heavy sound, rather than trying to sound like an electric guitar. Or maybe that's just me.
this pedal is stunning, I just purchased a Hyper Luminal to pair with my MT 500. I wonder if this would be too much compression hmmmmmmm. I love the high and low pass filter option
I have this pedal. I’m always disappointed that I can’t get these amazing tones. I’ve finally accepted that the missing piece of the equation is the very expensive Dingwall bass in everyone of these demos 🤷🏼♂️
Hey there! I had 50 minutes of footage to shrink them under 15 minutes haha. Since there are already 2 more parts - videos explaining the filters thoroughly I thought of keeping the high pass section only in order to modify the distorted sound based on a clean one. My personal preference for the low pass is around 300Hz so I kept it there intact.
Hi Chris! Really nice video, just ordered the pedal and already know how to use it thanks to your video! Just wondering which IR did you use for cab simulator? Is it a stock IR?
Hey Chris! Excellent video and great explanation about what the pedal does! I have a question, I have the B7KU v1 and the SuperSymmetry compressor, chained in that order to a Radial JDI. I'm planning on selling my B7KU and get the X7U, but seeing your video makes me think that this pedal can replace the compressor and the DI too, mostly because I'd be missing the Cab Sim otherwise. What do you think? For reference, I play metal mostly.
Hey Jose, glad you liked it! It's true that the X Ultra combines everything in 1 pedal and you can run it directly with the cabsim engaged. I usually have the compressor first then the preamp - overdive so you can either use the symmetry with the X Ultra or just the X alone. I have been playing gigs and recording tracks like this for the last 2 years.
Thanks a lot Manuel! Since I am running everything through a pedal board I have everything flat on the bass preamp. I prefer to use the EQ controls after the drives.
Sending back this unit after a few weeks. I was intrigued by this pedal in particular because of the compression option. But not a single demo shows a major flaw of this pedal: As soon as you dial in the compression there is a nasty, unnatural low end "rumble" or "thump". When you play a short note you can hear that the sound is somehow internally layered / constructed / blended and it just ends in a messy signal after all. The sound is not a "unity".. it's a compound of two different signals. Then the small dials for low pass and high pass are extremely finicky and overall it's hard to find the right spot where you can seamlessly switch between a natural clean sound and distorted sound with the high level and high drive knobs. I owned the Alpha Omicron for a long time and this pedal is one of the best distortion pedals I've come across in a long time.. and I've had a lot of them. I'll never give a away the Alpha Omicron :D. But this Microtubes X Ultra is an abomination and Darkglass doesn't provide firmware updates for it to fix such an obvious problem..
Hey Chris...I've been going crazy for an hour!!! I only have my X Ultra plugged into an amp. Is there anything else it needs to be plugged up for the blue compressor lights to come on because they wont when pushing the bypass for a few seconds. Thanks so much for your help
Nice demo, Chris. The only thing I’m confused about is where you talk about full band compression in blue mode and low band in red. Seems the compressor isn’t activated at all in clean mode of red, only when distortion is engaged. I just got this pedal and the way it seems to me is that to have a compressor for the low band in clean mode, you switch to blue. Then you have compression active for both distortion and clean. But is it full range or still just for the low end? Sounds to me like it’s only low comp?
Hey Sam! The blue is full band compression and works for both clean and distortion while the red is low band compression for the distortion only like X7.
I had the Alpha Omega Ultra and now I use the X Ultra, I would say that X Ultra is better for metal, but AOU is really versatile too and suits for metal. It also depends what kind of IR's you gonna use.
I don't wait darkglass to put out a new pedal, I wait for Chris video on it and to know what kind of magic they both produce. Kudos Chris! For Another awesome video.
Chris always does a proper job! I've bought my last 2 DG pedals solely based on Chris' demos
This really is the best pedal demo I’ve seen. You did all the things players want to hear, concisely. Thank you!
I agree, perfect!
Very detailed explanation. I was struggling to figure out my newly bought Microtubes X ultra, and you saved my day. Thank you very much!
This is by far my favorite Darkglass pedal!! Sounds incredible and kris deserves more credit!!!
Killing it as always, Chris!
Cheers Patrick!
Chris the ninja does it again 🖤
😁
MrExcane Patiently waiting for your demo man :)
MrExcane I love this demo but I need to hear excane rocking that sick MTD through this!
My favorite pedal from dg so far. The versatility, features ,and tone options are top 100%.
Thanks for the in-depth demo Chris and Darkglass !
Cheers!

How do i connect to the device via Bluetooth with the darkglass suite app?

I love that I can plug these in and play in front of the computer with headphones when my wife is sleeping in the next room. This is bass magic.
Very straight forward and informative!
This answers all questions 🤤 I want one so bad for my mini rig
amazing, now only missing the "Microtubes X 900" head amp
basically the pedal with a transformer
I love this review from the technical standpoint. The EQ in the bottom right, comparisons of various setups.

You just defined thé perfect role of thé bass❤
Fantastic video ! I’ve saved it because it’s the perfect tutorial, thanks !
I’m a little late to the party ,but awesome video ,best x ultra tutorial on RUclips ;)
Thanks for the thorough review

Honestly I sold my compressor as I won't need it when I have this.
Great and informative video 👌

Nice! But did you skip the low pass filter?

Does the cab sim also run through the 1/4" output if I were to route this before other pedals?
he literally said how its routed in the video...
Do I need Hyper luminal Compressor in front of X Ultra or it will be excessive?
Literally bought a bk7 v2 ultra the week before this came out /facepalm
Rob B7k ultra v2 deluxe. It’s only £40 cheaper than this and I wasn’t stating they were comparable
Rob Music MSRP for both pedals is $559.99.
Just bought it today. Can you give me your Take on justin chancellor Tone using the X ultra?
Hi Chris, nice video. Just to be sure this pedal don't have parallel output like the X7?
They’ve dropped that feature on all of the Ultra series.
Hi Chris, Excelent video! I was wondering though, what are your preferred settings for the tone capsule? Do you cut the 500hz band too? Cheers!
Thanks a lot Manuel! Since I am running everything through a pedal board I have everything flat on the bass preamp. I prefer to use the EQ controls after the drives.

First you have to enable this function via the Darkglass suite.
Which cab sim IR did you use in this demo?
What strings were you using for this video? Thanks!
Holy Macaroni! This Bass Pedal have bone crushing sound! Sweet Jesus! I like your bass guitar too ;)
So is this like an amp but as a pedal? How exactly would one use this in a normal setting?
Switching on the compressor on clean by holding bypass does not work on my pedal. Any ideas?
You need to plug the pedal into your PC via the usb cable and activate that feature in the darkglass suite.

Hey Sam! The blue is full band compression and works for both clean and distortion while the red is low band compression for the distortion only like X7.
From what the manual says, turning on the clean comp doesn't affect the distortion comp.
Love the sound without the cab sim.
Do these Microtubes series actually got tubes in them you need to replace sometimes?
Nah they don't
Can you combinate X7 Ultra and Alpha Omicron in one pedal board?
As a standalone bass sound device which is better for metal bass : alpha omega ultra or this one ?
I had the Alpha Omega Ultra and now I use the X Ultra, I would say that X Ultra is better for metal, but AOU is really versatile too and suits for metal. It also depends what kind of IR's you gonna use.
Great vid, great playing ... great pedal ....... but looks like it’s just cost me £375 !!! .... 🙈
I am purchasing the Alpha Omega DG amp and then get the B7K! Ha!!!!
Stop taking all my money!
I know..every new pedal is better and more versatile then the next...now all they need to do is create a multi effects pedal unit.
@@trance9158 wooooahhhh.. the thought of that makes me drool
@@jaaz.handss yeah...me too.
this was a lesson in EQ haha
Give your pinky some
🤘🏿
Welp, guess i know where my next paychecks going
Γιασού, πατριώτης
Overly compressed.
stop scooping those mids!!!!
Too many options
Best video thank you!
