dont know if anyone gives a damn but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my brother for the last couple of months =)
Hey, y'all! X Ultra user 5 years into ownership. There is no preamp more versatile than this. I have used this on everything from reggae to death metal, and it fits every single set I do. It's my Frank's Red Hot. I put it on EVERYTHING! A fun hidden feature is the "blue mode". You likely have to do a firmware update to unlock it, but it's unbelievably useful. You press and hold both buttons and the pedal changes from red to blue. In this mode, you get compression in both clean and distorted modes. This gives the pedal a crazy amount of flexibility and makes it so that your low end is always tight as can be. I put my X Ultra at the very end of my signal chain (I know it's not technically the correct way, but hear me out) to really reel in all of my other effects. I use 2 fuzzes and 2 distortion pedals, to achieve different levels of gain. With the distortion channel turned on, it keeps my fuzz from ripping through the mix, even with it pretty close to everything at max. It also gives clarity to said fuzz, that was made to sound horrendous. No volume jump, no loss in EQ points, just more distortion. That's the most extreme case that I commonly find myself in, but it's a very useful one. My chorus is glassy but still dense, my octave is tight and defined, and all of my distortions are articulate and as rowdy as can be. This pedal is never turned off because of the blue mode. Sorry for the long comment. Just wanted to express my joy for this pedal and the secrets that get overlooked.
Damn I love my Big Muff Bass but this thing just sounds so much better and allows you to sculpt your tone so much more. The only reason I don't have a Darkglass is cause of the pricetag
Amen! Sure, a scooped mid sound might sound nice when your bass is on its own, but if you're only pushing lows and highs, the kick drum and the cymbals will just plow right over them and there goes your bass :P
Good demo but you are doing it as if it was the X7, why do you have to have both switches on all the time and when you switch off the distortion, the distortion level is at cero, i havent seen someone engaging and disengaging the Dist, that was my main reason for watching it, can you please put the distortion level at 100!!!! and then engage and disengage it? thanks
Already an Ultra version? It took until April before I could use my X7. Had to send it to DG once for being defective then, it was sent back needing yet another modded repair. Korg had taken over DG repairs by then which took forever
Is this circuit in the microtubes infinity preamp? I don't own any dark glass hardware and am thinking of buying just the infinity preamp pedal but i can't hear these distortion tones in a number of the demo videos.
If you had an Ampeg Heritage head and matching Heritage 8x10 cab do you think this pedal is needed or still a most get for my board? I don't really have any current drive pedals or preamp pedals. Thanks in advance guys.
What pickups did you guys end up leaving on the sweet Fender PJ Sea Foam bass towards the end? I got that bass too, I'm still rocking those EMG Geezers but I still got the factory ones as well to the side. Thanks in advance and great demo guys!
I watched all the way to the end since it was such a great demo - the sound shaping and in/out options are top notch. Ouch, that bass dropping - I felt that. But I wondered why towards the end you called it X7 Ultra - that (I found out later) was a different model. The one in this video is the X Ultra (no biggie)
Damn, sorry about the fall, hope it was okay! So the high pass is just working on the distorted(wet) signal and not the dry signal? Sorry, I get easily confused lol.
I'm wondering this same thing. I need a high pass filter, and if this pedal could serve that purpose while also giving me distortion and EQ, it would be perfect.
@@rome8180 It's not the same as an actual high pass filter that brickwalls the signal above a certain frequency, it just applies the distortion above that frequency. If the MXU actually had separate low/high pass filters it would be perfect
Ninguno es mejor, va en gustos. A mi personalmente qué el X no distorsione los graves y te permita elegir la frecuencia a partir de la cual se aplica la distorsión me parece que lo hace imbatible. Pero es opinión personal.
Hey guys, I was wondering if this is straigh DI or you have the Cab Sim activated? If the cab sim was activated, was the default IR or you used another one? Thank you!
Then in a few months we get the latest xxx-ultra-porn version with a clip indicator for the low comp and mid drive selector for 500 bucks...naah thanks, I'd rather stay by the Parallax - it has it all plus cab and mics, sounds monstrous and costs 100$. Great video though!
Clean sound is not that convincing. Good if somone is looking for an ok clean preamp with the option of having that signature metalcore DG sound with the click of a button. If someone is strictly looking for that DG sound, then I think Alpha Omega ultra is better.
I think instead of these dudes tryng to riff or what ever .they should play riffs we are familiar with.. Playing a rage riff... Black Sabbath.. Rush.. What ever. Some people play covers..
Too often when I watch videos like this, 75% of it is about distortion. For the millions of us out here who don't focus on distortion, may we hear the demonstration in music?
Bingo! Sure, distortion is all fine and good in its place, but it shouldn't be that hard to find something with a good *clean* sound! There something about a distorted bass where if you're playing with guitarists who use heavy distortion, it'll just kind of sink into the quicksand. On the other hand, a good clean tone really cuts through.
He calls himself Patrick Hunter, but how many Patricks has he really caught?

Demoing by reamping your live recording is amazing.
Thank you!
Really smart idea!

I love that Jayme snuck in a Tal Wilkenfeld bass line! Good stuff.
This pedal is killer even if you never use the distortion options, it has some of the most powerful EQ shaping I've ever heard.
Sorry that bass went fishing but glad you didn't edit it out. I like the raw vids the most!
The 5-string jam at 6:45 rules. The crunch from that low B is excellent.
the bass is a Schecter stilleto custom 5!
These guys do the best and most comprehensive gear demo's. Thanks.
4:10 now that’s what I call a bass drop am I right? (I do hope that bass isn’t badly damaged though)
Best review so far. The amount of effort gone into this single video is as astounding as it is appreciated. Thanks!
Good vid. It has it all, action, adventure, comedy, romance and suspense.
OH NO! That POOR BASS! I hope it wasn't damaged badly! What a Huge Drop! Was the hanger not secured on a Stud?!
It's always sad when a bass takes it's own life.
I'm digging all the gnarly doom riffs.
Guys remember: keep your mids there or you will get lost in the mix.

I agree!
He knew what he was doing when he turned that low pass up during the reggae song at that exact part.
Look at Patrick playing a fancy-ass no pickguard PRS with a pick. Legend.

Everyone sleeping on those PRS basses, but they're killer!
I have a Kestrel, it sounds pretty great and is very versatile! And the playability is top notch, feels like a much more expensive instrument
It needs a setup.
So are the prices. Killing my interest lol. But really if I could justify spending that much on a bass I might
That bass falling made me jump
Same
Did the bass falling from the wall suddenly get passed off as a “Relic Custom Shop” ??
Master aged by loose drywall 😂
my jaw dropped at 4:08, was not expecting that
I want that Steve Harris P-bass
9:42 Holy crap!

8:40 it’s so beautiful :’) where can I find more stuff or songs with bass like this?
Name of the song at 11:30? I can't find it
Good review but should have shown how it sounds with mids boosted as well.
Fantastic review, excellent use of screen in screen feature!!!! Bass channel rocks!

does the eq affect the overall signal and does it come before or after the compression / distortion section ?
If you hold the bypass switch down until it turns blue it switches
Ugg I. And just picked up the MXR bass d.i +, but no eq on it...darn it...thanks for the review though!
I'm selling my mxr di to get this, for sure!

You sir, have a ghost in your studio.
And that’s why I never hang my basses on walls 😅 don’t worry, it’s gained vintage value now…I bet it sounds even better than before 🤣
Whats that orange bass will was playing? That sounded awesome!! I need one
the bass is broken ? (technical difficulties)
What do you need to plug it into a computer for recording
A cord
How do you spell the jame of the band around the 4:30 minute mark
Quick question. If I disengage just the distortion what parts of the pedal are still on?
Does the compression stay on with the eq?
Yes, and if u hold down the bypass foot switch the lights turn blue so your cleans get compression

Hi Amigos!!!! What cabsim are you using?

Can you get the signal pass through the amp, so you have dist on it?

This or the Orange Butler?
Someone call the ambulance! I've got a heart attack because of the fallen bass
will the headphone jack also have the cab sim ?
Have not found an answer to that.
Of course this is leaked no more than 2 weeks after my X7 arrived....
welp - i think DG just answered every complaint that kept me from buying one - dammit.
Hell yeah! Cheers from Rebellion Fest in Blackpool, England yo! 🍻
Hope you’re having a blast out there, man!
Who needs a drop tuner when you have a drop bass?
Has a good SVT crunch.
Great review! Thanks
Does it comes with pre settings ?
this one or vintage ultra?
I have the same question
This
If you prefer older, less clear distortion (think Lemmy) then definitely vintage.
If you prefer modern tones then get this
Hey guys, I was wondering if this is straigh DI or you have the Cab Sim activated? If the cab sim was activated, was the default IR or you used another one? Thank you!
Nice Combustible Edison fill there
Great video
When playing 'arry's bass you can't help but to play a maiden style jam.
Scooped mids are so hair metal, man,
a little bit of overdrive is ok but extreme distortion on basses really sucks
I want this one. Or two
It is cool but the price seems awfle steep..
Distortion on this thing sounds like absolute ass to me.
