For those of you who don't have time to play it, I played through it again the other day for you and will try to summarise each of its 18 chapters for you so you feel as though you have played it. I did it on medium difficulty, and it took 5 and a half hours.
0:00 - Chapter 1 - Point Insertion
2:55 - Chapter 2 - A Red Letter Day
4:15 - Chapter 3 - Route Kanal
7:17 - Chapter 4 - Water Hazard
10:29 - Chapter 5 - Black Mesa East
13:02 - Chapter 6 - "We Don't Go To Ravenholm"
17:34 - Chapter 7 - Highway 17

When Dog dropped a boulder on Gordon's head killing him instantly, Alyx just laughed joyfully. What a psychopath.
I know It was timed perfectly 🤣
What a fucking cycle path…
Phil you've got 10 minutes to release Part 2
watching at 8x it's doable
And we've got less than that to watch them both :o
TOO LATE, IT'S HERE!
It has to unpack God damnit
We don't really need part 2 Half life: Alyx is a prequel
"Some kind of heavy kitchen appliance?"
Bro that's a washing machine.
That type of washing/dryer machine design is pretty uniquely American. Never seen one like that im Europe
@Discofelsi its very popular in Poland, in small flats as they are narrower
@@huudiinii Yeah, Soviet time stuff, later close to 90s came top loader cylindrical shaped which had timer on the side - you could wind it up when it was turned off too having ticking sound until timer run out
@@huudiinii But you cant stack a dryer on top, for apartment living isn't it better to have a front loader with a front loading dryer stacked?
@@DJogdog this is better if you own a home. the sheer amount it can handle will be useful

Alyx: Hahahaha
Alyx: Lol, n00b. Get rekt.
Querxes alyx
Oh hey its you!
"There's nothing Gordon can handle. With the possible exception of you."
"Dad please..."
*Turns into a teapot* ( 10:59 )
eeeeghh
My favorite line in the game
i always thought eli said "less he steps inside of youu" lol

Make sure you summarise Hunt Down The Freeman, it's key to understanding the Half Life Canon
Agreed, and that part where he was talking about his face is messed up, made me cried. Absolute amazing
only if its upscaled
The start is iconic. "I know a place in the Red Light district, where we can lay low - but my hands are all messed up, so you better drive brother. "
"Hunt Down the Freeman is the key to all this"

Half-life lego sets would be so fucking cool though

Seriously? I never knew that and I've been replaying this game for years.
that's probably the single entire and only fucking item in the entire game that has wheels you can push. so it's natural.
1Nostrand1 How did you do that area then?
@@jiraffe9600 chuck all the way, or rush the gun. Works even in hard.
Same, I had no idea, all this time. I just would rush the turret or hold a barrel in front of me.
if you cover your face, even with a tiny item, the combine won't shoot you because of how their ai works, i know that's not how you're supposed to by pass him, but it's how i always did
12:28 hahaha **Gordon dead on the ground**
Philip, I bet you’re jumping in joy at this point in time.
😮
It's time
His face is probably deep in a puddle somewhere in city 17 :DD
Fun fact: You can carry Dog's Ball through Ravenholm, past the mines(drag it along the ceiling of the water areas, and for some reason it won't explode), across the coast, and into Nova Prospekt. The part that it is impossible to carry it over is the teleporter sequence, which is sadly the very last bit before you reunite with D0G himself.
:(((
By the time I finish watching this, the next Half-Life game will have been released.
Holy shit
4:48 "but in this game they're..." Me: friendly. Philip: "... butt naked." Me: ah, yes, I suppose that too.
Wow, I'd never even considered reversing and waiting for the train to pass on the bridge. I was always flying along at such speeds in the buggy that playing chicken with it just seemed natural. Very prudent of you.
This brings back so many memories from when I was a kid. I love the way you mess around with props throughout your playthrough. Even the act of exploring and playing with the physics in Half-life 2 is fun, so there's never a moment in this game that feels boring.
I’m 14 and just finished the game the ending was so emotional because it looks like alyx died and freeman died :(
I actually started crying
I’m gonna ask my mum for a vr and gaming pc for my birthday so I can play half life alyx
@@kakophonien6514 I did I’ve nearly finished episode 2 my mom said I can’t have half life alyx tho
@@Mini-wd7qz neither of them died lol, someone different did
At this point we're all just spitting out everything known about Half-Life up to this point, to inform as many people as possible, just on time before the next installment arrives. Your punctuality is impeccable, Phillip.
22:25 "Don't forget to press this button" How did you know?! I had to go the whole way back, exactly as you said, and it really pissed me off.
I don't remember forgetting it but I don't know why I pressed it 🤔🤔
Also: there are three ammo boxes w/ rockets. I wounder why they are here....
And if you thought, the rpg was a fire abd forget weapon, tough luck to you
I don't see how people forget anyway. You're blocked by a force field at the top, so your whole reason for going under the bridge is either to find a way ahead or disable the force field. Why anyone would go back after doing nothing but killing a few dudes is beyond me.
This is what happens when you don't pay attention to the story
@@Tomiply IIRC you unplug some sort of a cable in there, I thought that's it
23:14 Huh, first time I've seen anyone do that. I just speed towards the train. You can easily make it before it comes out of the tunnel.
I really appreciate the hard work you put in your channels in the last couple of weeks. Thank you.
The opening of this game is so powerful
My favorite way to play through Ravenholm is to only use the Gravity Gun. It was so satisfying getting the achievement at the end. The way I got through the roof section was just dodge and weave through the fast zombies.
This game is so much better the second time you play. You notice so many more small details. Like I didn’t originally notice that Eli winks at Gordon after he makes Alyx blush.
Yisyisyis thank you so much Phil, i haven't been waiting for this, and I've already finished both hl games but hearing your voice and your playthrough's makes me feel warm inside.
excellently summarised. 10/10 you earned yourself a new sub.
21:00 ah yes, targeted advertising
YES, YES. Easily the best youtuber on this platform, editing skills never stop to amaze me, simple, yet so smooth.
I dont know how you put this out so fast, but thank you for it. I didnt want to replay hl2 for a 4th time!
"He's one of us"
*Lifts TV and smashes it through a window*
Ok
As someone who hasn’t been able to play these games, but has wanted to learn since Alyx is out, I got to say this is one of the best explanation videos I’ve seen. You actually include gameplay, tell the story, and are entertaining. I actually kinda want to play these now cause of you. Thank you for some really good videos to watch during this Coronavirus quarantine :)!
I've played true the entire Half-Life series multiple times, but this video still brings some things i didn't know about like: the cart you can push forward just before exploding the gate.
Something about this video was just really relaxing and fun to watch, maybe it's simply your voice, maybe it's the nostalgic gameplay, maybe it's both. I'm looking forward to the next parts, just as i looked forward to this one, Great entertainment Philip. And perhaps a usefull guide for those only playing the game for the first time.
The editing in this is marvelous.
im loving these
Duuude I'm just amazed how well our thoughts about various parts match. The scale of the bridge and and the calming music was definitely one of my favorites too. I just had this sense that since enemies are not coming now, they'll come after I've reached the ending part so I deliberately did that part slowly just enjoying on my way
The most Fantastic summary about HL dude, Keep going you're the best 🧡👌🏻
These vids are so good i can't believe it's not main channel content
I love this videos :D really entertaining and also a great way to show the game. Watching you play this, I remembered that I dont remember most party off HL2, since I only played through it once and that was near its release. Time to change it soon :D
15:51 fun fact, you can drop down and reenter the building again and wait inside until the skilift thing arrives, effectively dodging ALL enemies that would normally climb to the roof to attack you!
this especially helped me get the achievement for using only the grav gun
love your videos
I like these, I just finished yesterday replaying Half Life 2 and the episodes on hard mode, and doing the gnome run for the first time
❤
Love those videos
This has quickly become one of my favorite series, honestly.
Love this series
so awesome to remember it all again. I wish you would do more and more of these summerises
Happy for you to finally get to play Half Life Alyx Philip! Also excited for the videos on it!
12:21 *Dog kills Gordon
Alyx: Hehehe
Great run rough
Your attack on the bridge at 19:33 was absolutely beautiful
the entire buggy part is great, tresspassing bridge is in of best gaming moments ever
I just love these videos :) Hl2 seems to be an awesome game but I never played it
Philip reminded us of the "Pick up that can" meme again.
Can't wait for part 2! You should do Half Life Alyx with commentary if you want. But i totally understand if you just want to play one of your favorite games by yourself! :)
Very few games over the years, have managed to capture such a feeling of isolation and dread. Superb game.
Luv you Phil!
Great summary
i'd love to see you have a crack at speedrunning this
this is so perfect, that you so much
Gordon: *got crushed to death by a boulder*
Alyx: [laughter]
Important correction! The helicopter in the airboat sections of the game is called a hunter-chopper, not a gunship
Underneath the bridge is one of my favourites too! Love that place
On one of my early playthroughs I brought D0g's ball all the way through Ravenholm. It's pretty much a gamebreaker, as zombies go after it seeing it as an enemy (and vice versa), while also being a good launchable object for the gravity gun. It broke the zombie-street for me for a while, because I didn't know how to go through it properly without it, it's just that useful when all the fast and poison zombies are pouring out.
The only place I couldn't bring it was the cart ride to Grigori (it got cought up on the border of the level segments I guess), so it can simply be thrown to the end of the street where the fast zombies spawn and they won't even bother to come up for Gordon.
Yes, I also really enjoyed taking the functional ball (one that zaps) for as long as possible. It not only distracts zombies and crabs, it also kills them! I brought it all the way to the point where I kill the antlion boss (sry, I forgot how are they called)
Good timing. I just beat Half-Life 2 episode 2 yesterday. And this is was my first time beating Half-Life 2. I tried to get into it back in 2014, but could only get a few hours in. I also beat the first game and both "expansions" in the past few months. Honestly, hl1 and hl2 feel very different to me. They are both unique in their own way, and they are both brilliant.
lol enjoyed watching until i saw this video is uploaded March24,2020 goodstuff man keep it up, low key demanding for part 2 😂
Man i love these videos. When is the next one?
Can't wait for the Half-Life: Alyx review Philip!
Wow: I've learned couple things that I didn't knew for 16 years of playing this game.
I could never catch that dropship: 7:59
I didn't know this! 8:11 (I always thought why Valve didn't leave room for cover)
Half-Life 2 is so good you'd wish to play it for the first time again.
I love the bridge part too.
Not gonna lie, I adore the bridge section. Everything about it scared the shit out of me! Especially the sudden train.
I LOVE THE SHOTGUN TOO DUDE!
LOL Phil backs off when the train comes on the bridge. You've gotta FLOOR it man, beat the train to the gap. It always is so satisfying because its timed to be so damn close that if you hesitate you won't make it. Its how I beat it first when I was 10 and its the coolest part imo
the poison zombie in the house scared the shit out of me the first time i played
I'd just like you to know that half life alyx came out halfway through your video, and I remembered to go back and watch it when the thing crashed steam for the third time.
Objection: I think the harpoon is the most dangerous thing you can fire with the gravity gun. You can look up the hitpoints in the mdl files
I’m 20 minutes into half life alyx, hands down most jaw dropping experience I’ve ever had.
Breaking this game using rocketjumps and spamming "impulse 101" bound to a key to both survive and get ammo was a lot of fun (especially doing the car part without the car and ravenholm)
It's so weird, I used to play this game like 4-5 years ago and I played it like 2 or 3 times. But I just can't seem to remember a lot of things. Like for example the train encounter, or the forcefields that hol back your car. I do remember that underneath section of the bridge though!
I love this so much
These should be in a playlist
The bridge part is what I remember the most tbh of this game. Also the sand ones which were annoying. But I loved when we get that op gun later. It must be in part 2
Brandon Freechmin does many shootbangs and also gravity from a gun. POW!
There you go.
8:10 holy shit I never knew that
I got hl2 for free during some steam event like in janurary and just got to Nova Prospekt yesterday so imma have to wait to see your video cuz I've never played the game.
Good vid
Thank you!
I'm watching this as HL:A is unpacking in Steam now. What a historical moment!
it can't unpack fast enough
Perfect to watch while HL:Alyx unpacks
this really is a timeless game
19:52 I have never done a HL2 playthrough WITHOUT doing this.
I've played these games and still find these videos interesting
That frustrated train abuse at the end....😆
I haven't even finished Half life 2 and they're already making another one :(
It's only been 15 years!
Then start **SPEEDRUNNING**
Well you had a fuck load of time. Just play all of them nice and easy. No hurry.
It's finished and out already. Time's up, man. Game over
The Afr0 where the fuck have you been
Oh perfect! Sequel is always better with you Phillip
Good to watch while half life Alyx unpacks for 5 hours
This is favorite game of all time! I’m been playing this game since 2015... Because my best friend got me into it, And he told me it’s really cool.
That high bridge was my fav too
why am i watching this?
i've already played the campaign like 90 times, i've memorized enemy locations, the gman's speech, and i even memorized almost every line of dialogue in the game!
Anyone else who has just recently played the games and remembers the plot perfectly, but watches these just because its fun to see someone talking about Half-Life
7:33 Judt makes it look like Gman just wants to kill Gordon lmao
That poisoned headcrab zombie still gives me a churning feeling in my gut every time I see it
thank you mr philip
