For those of you who don't have time to play it, I played through it again the other day for you and will try to summarise each of its 18 chapters for you so you feel as though you have played it. I did it on medium difficulty, and it took 5 and a half hours.
0:00 - Chapter 8 - Sandtraps
4:04 - Chapter 9a - Nova Prospekt
5:33 - Chapter 9b - Entanglement
8:51 - Chapter 10 - Anticitizen One
12:37 - Chapter 11 - "Follow Freeman!"
16:00 - Chapter 12 - Our Benefactors
17:43 - Chapter 13 - Dark Energy

I do love these summary videos. I can't wait to see the summary of Half Life Episode 3 :)

thx Alyx, good you remembered Gordon how talkative he is
616 nah the best was “......”
Please do more than just half life series with this!
Good shortform is amazing
Thank-you for doing these. You summarize the half life games so well.
Wow. I've played HL2 so many times but I never knew Alyx gets captured in the City 17 part. I always just blaze through that bit, too fast to notice.
Same. Made me feel bad..
I always wondered where she disappeared and was angry that she left me alone lol
I spent months trying to understand Half Life, I never played it as I didn't know any English when I was young, never had the temper to go play an old game, this is awesome, thank you man.
Just play it you will like it trust me :)
Epic is right they're amazing games, Half-Life is available for download on Steam, and Half-Life 2 is also
@@tomharrison9280 and both episodes
6:55 is too pure. also hilarious how bamboozled she is.
I literately just finished part 1 and refreshed the page. Oh this is so satisfying
When I was kid I just run all over that section 2:10 and shot all antlions... because I didn't understand a word in English... And just for fun i take turrets with me 7:22 ... So, you can have 8 turrets at the end.
Lol, something similar happened to me when I played half life 1. I was a kid and still hadn't learned English, since most of the first areas of the game were off limits and you couldn't pass any retinal scanner I thought you were an infiltrator in black mesa, so I thought that you actually sabotaged the experiment and caused the accident.
Sounds like me trying to play dead cells in French. I apparently discovered something that most people don't find out until later bexause I couldn't pass the dialogue to get through a door
Playing this game when you know English is much more fun from when you were a kid
:DDD
Man i played episode 1 before half life 2 and thought after the nihilith you had to save new York or something
"Run for your life" good job saving THAT particular rebel.
i do it erry tim
5:46 boi Half-Life Alyx sure made that wish come true
Was looking for this comment, haha. The multitool parts are great.
Woosh
Woosh

Praise Wosh!
In my opinion, when you teleport back to dr kliner’s lab is the best part of the game because you started the game there and after all this time, you come back to it. It’s like coming back to a place you used to be for a while, as you recognize the parts of the place you remember all that time ago, but now it’s all destroyed. I love it
First time I played Half-Life 2, I stopped playing just before the bridge.
Long story short; it took me 4 years to return to it as part of my back-log, and now I've played through the campaign 10 times.
It's amazing, how everytime I see that first view with the train and the bridge, nostalgic memories of my life from the time period come back. (The time period of my first playthrough.)
Yeah man. I was in 8th grade when this game came out in 2004 for PC and OG Xbox. However, I didn't experience it until it re-released as part of The Orange Box compilation on the Xbox 360 in 2007. I was a junior in high school then.
Of course that package came with all the chapters and a few other elements. Unbeknownst to me, at that time, was how good the game actually was. Especially when you compare it to other AAA titles releasing at that time.
Needless to say, I played the shit outta The Orange Box when I first got my hands on it for the Xbox 360. No regrets with it at all. It is definitely one of the greatest games I've played ever, at the time, and I've played it to damn near 100% completion for achievements.
To conclude, this game brings back solid memories and experiences I had at that time in my life. It's hard to explain why I love it so much... I've gotten pretty much 900/1000 achievement.
It's too bad that TF2 doesn't have an active console community anymore. The game runs so well on Xbox Series X|S too, so it's a shame that the game is all but dead. I miss it..
Half life is my all-time favorite gaming franchise. You're my favorite content creator hands down. You've really made this month better with this content! You've taken me back to simpler times, and that is not something any other creator have managed to do during these stressful days.
Not to sound cheesy but thanks man, I've given you praise on many occasions. But you deserve every word.
17:12 I always thought that the suit gets upgraded by that weapon magnet or something, that affects the gravity gun, and the healing stations stay the same.
The finest mind of his generation!
13:44 Really? I love it. It's so accurate and kills enemies so fast. Its downside is the limited ammo, but it's overpowered as hell if you ask me.
yeah pulse rifle frags hard
just notice Philip kills all three of those combines with a single shot.
50 seconds ago, just watched the other parts as well.
Played this game more times than I can count, but I also love watching you play it. Awesome stuff.
I like how on every chapter you learn something new like a skill. Then in the last few chapters you use your entire knowledge to fight off the combine.
6:34 Funnily enough, I find these parts easy as hell. I set the turrets up just right, then I barely do anything myself. Very rarely do they get knocked over.
I was worried I'd missed this when I saw the alyx gameplay
love this stuff!
Mr. Philip this series is the best thing you have made yet, I am incredibly proud to be your subscriber and beyond grateful for the service that you do.
You know you can take the turrets all the way to the teleporter right? In the teleporter room you can have 8 turrets it’s amazing. It isn’t even that much of a hassle moving them, just launch them to where you’re going, get there, and repeat. There’s this one part after the second turret section where you get ambushed by combine, I remember it by the flare they shoot out. In this section, I like creating “the wall of bullets” with the 5 turrets I have at this point before tripping the ambush. It’s amazing.
Watching every bit with pleasure. Thanks for that!
I just love your sence of humor, don't know what it is but is just so good
Great content philip, thoroughly enjoyed these videos
this came out at just the right moment thank you phillip
Haven't played in a while, so nice to have recap of what Freeman's Mind has to deal with in the future.
Not any other random VR games or anything :3
1:44 this part always remind me of that movie "Starship Troopers" !!!! And when the ending of Half-Life 2 : EPiSODE 2 is very similar too.
This is such a great way to watch a game.. I really hope you will do more of these!
I love this type of videos ! I am excited for some more !! :D
I hadn't realised how close I got to beating the game
I got to 11:30 in this video
Gonna pause it real quick and go finish off the rest of it. Wish me luck
I remember my older brother palying half life 1 when we were kids and didnt know the name of it, realized years later what it was and love it. Played 2 at my friends. Its wild to see how much these games influenced all other games after just like the sand lions and playing thr mars dlc on farcry 5. Very cool. Thankyou for doing these!
Gonna enjoy this, thanks Philip!
Two days after Half-Life: Alyx' release and you give us this. I WANT MORE HEADCRAB PETTING!
After watching your first half life 2 summary video I got motivated to finish the game on my own, but I’m still watching this video
The final holdout with more turrets than usual is indeed very fun (when it works properly, I mean). Does take some of the challenge out of it, though. I also enjoy holding a turret in front of me and letting it take things out, conserving ammo.
Storming the prison with your army of giant alien ants is one of the greatest moments in gaming, and one of the reasons Half Life 2 is among the best games ever made.
Thx for this series.
Hope you do Episode 1 & 2 as well
You sir have a talent in calm story telling! please do more.
i never even knew that there was a clip after the credits, cool video!
Gordon: sees his crowbar get destoyed
Gordon: MY CROWBAR
@@quantspazar6731 you definitely get them from somewhere else than where you got your previous ones. The only thing Gordon really kept all the way through was the gravity gun... Kind of sad because the crowbar is so iconic..
@@quantspazar6731 yeah that's what I meant. It is the same between 1 and 2 but sadly not in the episodes.
Gordon's crowbar history -
HL1: First one he finds while escaping Sector C. He loses it when he is thrown into a trash compacter, but he soon gets a second one. The second one is then taken by G-Man, because crowbars are dangerous.
HL2: Barney gives Gordon a third crowbar. It is unknown if the "dropped this back at Black Mesa" line is sarcasm or not, but I highly doubt he actually found the one Gordon had. If you _really_ want to take Barney's word at face value, then it most likely is the first one that Gordon had. It eventually gets erased in the Combine weapon dissolver.
Ep1: Barney gives Gordon a fourth one. Gordon drops it somewhere after the train he is on crashes.
Ep2: Gordon finally gets a fifth and final(for now) crowbar that was jammed in an elevator's gears. He is currently in possession of this one.
MORE Half life alyx PLEASE I Loved your videos the most , im unfortunate enough to not afford hardware to play it
so watching your gameplay was the most fun thing ever!!
Just finished watching part 1, 12m is really good service
I honestly forgot how good half life 2 is. I've spent so long knowing all the in's and outs and skips and semi-speedrunning it. I might do a 'regular' playthrough soon, now that I remember how good the actual game is.
That bridge at the start, that darn train got me so many times
Thank you for this so and the other parts so much!
5:50 “...If they were one day playable” bud I have great news
Episode 1 and two next? Enjoying these. Brings back good memories
0:35 i spent an hour trying to place some objects to get through the hole to the roof until i realised theres an invisible wall on the hole
Every time I played through Anti Citizen, always made me feel like I was in an actual war for survival. No other game has come close to giving me that feeling of complete anarchy, chaos and desperation. And yet watching this, the game still looks like it's just getting dated despite being over decade old! Valve were so ahead of their time.
I've played that game a few times myself. And still... thank you!
Driving in the coast is one of my favorite parts of Half Life 2. It’s just feels laidback and cool
absolutely addicted to his channel
You know, I think I was playing fallow Freeman! While watching one of your videos a few months ago. It's ironic that we've now swapped places.
I’ve only played it once more than 10 years ago and it’s interesting to see how much/little I remember :)
Storm Nova Prospekt, they can't stop us all
Hey, Phillip! I'm a big fan of your series since I was always a little too impatient to finish the games (the gameplay loop got a bit repetitive for me), so it's nice to be able to see all the fantastic lore that I've missed out on!
The only thing I wish you'd do was show more of the dialogue. Like when you mentioned Mr. Green trying to talk to you and getting more and more frustrated as time goes on, I would've loved to see some snippets of this development. I think it would allow us to build a better picture of the characters and their personalities :)
"...I doubt you can do that on your first playthrough."
What's that, you say? I can't hear you over the sounds of my car ramming into other cars!
This was an enjoyable experience.
Oh man. I forgot how hyped I was during that fight when gman froze time. Now I want episode 3 again!
I have PTSD from barnacles, so whenever I see a piece of rope/branch sticking out from top I get a flight or fight response lmao
I've put a thousand hours into gmod since 2010 but never actually played HL2. Really enjoying this and wish I played it sooner honestly. Now to wait for Ep 1 and Ep 2, unless I just end up playing them
17:45 this elevator always brings the last level of Mirror’s Edge to mind for me.
mirrors' edge vr. blerh
I'd love to see this series continue and cover different games
Would love to see these kinds of videos on hl2 ep 1 and 2
please do episode 1 and 2 these are absolutely amazing
Looking forward to HL2: Ep1 & 2 Summarised ;)
9:12 During my first play through i thought "Alright dog, you handle the APC and i handle these soldiers here" And guess who got killed by a sudden APC to the back of the head
best half life summs hands down
love the moments where you let the game ai speak for itself and take slight jabs at the game
I didn't remember how awesome this game was!
Thanks for this and I'm waiting for hl Alex (don't have vr but want to see the game)
sometimes i imagine Gordon having a permanent poker face through all of the Half Life games, i imagine everyone talking to someone with no expression in their face lol
I would love to see you do episodes 1 and 2 like this as well once you’re finished with alyx
Every noise in this game floods me with nostalgia
Can't wait for Part 2 of Episode 2 of Half Life 2
You can turn the wire-looking butresses in Nova Prospekt and in Anticitizen One into really good riot shields and moveable cover. just turn them over and you can use it to block bullets while moving using your gravity gun.
I just spent 7 hours playing half life Alyx and holy shit my ankles and back are burning.
How did you like the part when Alyx helped Glados get more ram for upscaling old videos?
Finished it a few hours ago, fucking loved it
16:06 Did anyone notice this headcrab just throwing itself into the abyss?
I love the idea of the combine wall slowly creeping. Wonder if there's a game made on that concept or one is being made?
HL:A in this format would be a blast to watch! Not saying that the video wasn't good, it was.
that iconing echoy explosion sound of hl2 never gets old
Countless times playing this game, and I never knew Half-Life 2 had an after-credits scene!
I ended up playing through this in one sitting again yesterday after watching part 1 lmao
"one day playable"
that day has come
Three words for all three parts:
Best. Game. Ever.
Damn I forgot how good the ending was, G-man is awesome.
One of my most favourite moments in the game is using the upgraded gravity gun and destroying everything and throwing power things which go boom
Freeman truly is an agent of chaos.
YESSS! Those pods were my fav thing to use! I see an enemy and I throw those pods
I'm fairly certain that antlions sense vibrations not smell but it could be both. There are combine machines that you activate that make big vibrations by smashing the ground that scare off the antlions.
I think someone pretty much says in the game that they sense the vibrations in the sand when you walk on it. Which would also explain why they shy away from those machines that basically imitate something massive stepping on the ground.
thanks man. i mean it shits grim. i thank you for the distraction
Excellent video, I absolutely loved it. As always, your content is extremely high quality and very watchable. However, I can't resist pointing out "two gunships appear, which require you shoot down with rockets" as a tiny missing word.
I'm so sorry. I love you.
@@2kliksphilip "which require you to shoot down" or "which need to be shot down with rockets", no?
@@JakeSteam no
After all of the people that I've introduced PC gaming to through this game, in the 15 years since asking for it as a 15th birthday present, I didn't realise how badly I needed to see another good player play these segments again. Even if just in pieces.
Seriously when you play this game after so many more modern shooters, it's like putting away the cigarettes and pulling out a cigar. It's not a hard game but at least it doesn't make you feel dumb for actually going along with its shit. If you want a shooter from a studio that looks at level design the same way as the people that made Portal 1 and 2, this is them. And even though it came before those, and even though the same engine sort of gives it away that it's them, you can still tell its them just by the ideas.
First person games are obviously Valves strength. It's just a shame that their expectations are so high that they can't bring themselves to release more Half Life games unless it's there to pioneer something worth pioneering. They pour all of their best ideas for a genre into a single product (and perhaps some expansions) and when they need to come up with a successor they realise they need something new, something they think has a future as something more then a gimmick. Otherwise they can't do it.
HL1 was just a PC shooter done differently when the other most popular shooters rode a more chaotic vibe and still looked like DOOM, Quake, Unreal, Hexen. It made verticality meaningful, added puzzle elements to break things up and uniquely told its story without taking away the players control. Half Life 2 was the showcase for a whole new engine along with its clever applications for interactive physics. Half Life Alyx is just another game that will play well for at least 10 years from now, even if they made no tweaks between now and then, which they surely will.
Philip, thanks for firing these out so quick! But... I have a bone to pick with you.
I spent most my time trying to convince my friends to watch your channel, forcing them to sit and watch, changing every topic of discussion to your channel. Now they're all ghosting me, probnably because they're too busy watching your channel. You're welcome for the hits. But now they don't have time to hang out with me. Now I don't have friends. You owe me friends. I'll see you in friend court which I'm pretty sure IS a thing but I am too scared to look into it and find out it isn't.
