I've been lifting weights for 20 years (within a couple short-breaks.)
And, I can tell you, the people who criticize another persons strength are, almost ALWAYS, 18-23 years old.
They still have that "High School mentality," combined with, "I'm so young and cool because I lift more than Levy!"

Today at the gym i was waiting for a girl at the row machine to finish, and she had it on 80 and was struggling. She was super skinny and was trying her best. I told her good job after and she stuck around as she wanted to go again after a break. We started talking as i sat down and warmed up on the same 80 lbs. We chatted and she just started. Told her she was doing great for just starting. She took a turn for her cool down faze and i went to max at 180 at a rep of 15. She was cheering me on and when i was done she told me good job. Its all about encouraging eachother. i couldnt do a chin up when i started, struggled with 25 lbs wieghts, and here i am growing every day.

0:24 "partistipating" - Levy Rozman 2024
Hey Levi, I am a bioengineer and would love to help you grow your triceps. According to recent works from Menno Henselmens, you can get a lot of growth really quickly by training lengthened partials, or at least biassing the stretched position of full rom movements. The best exercises for this in my opinion are the overhead cable triceps extension (dumbbell works too but is more difficult and sometimes uncomfortable on the joints), and the triceps push down. The first exercise gets the long head of the triceps the best with the latter exercise typically doing a good job on the other two. These are humbling exercises when trying to pause in the stretched position. Research shows anywhere from 5-20 sets near failure per week with these exercises should see really fast development. The range is wide because it takes into account people that have not lifted much or not lifted like this much. start on the low end and progressively add more as you become stronger. Oh also in the same vein as lengthened partials for triceps I am a huge proponent of dips. if you can get into the bottom of a dip with no momentum for just a second and press out it takes a phenomenal amount of coordination and strength. this would hit other muscles like the chest and shoulders, but also worth considering. Any of these exercises in the range 5-20 should do the trick. I would never skip over heads but alternate the other two as it is the only exercise that hits the long head of the triceps. I hope you actually read this and it helps. Good luck, I love having new people in the gym, especially ones that are wiling to learn and grow. You've shown that a lot lately in both your chess and your life and I am very excited for you.
I find if you lift and get enough protein, good overall diet and good sleep you will grow as much as genetics allow. I have tried many routines, if I took time off I just grow back the same muscle, same proportions and eventually hit the same wall. I don't think your endocrine system cares about what movements you do, as long as tissue is being worked. Menno has normal, in-good-shape, natty triceps as well.

what i understood from going to the gym is that the people who trash talk beginners are actually pretty bad themselves, they want to be superior than someone. The actual power lifters (or even body builders and trainers) only encourage people. They don't care about how much, only how well. So keep your head high.

People who berate others for not lifting a lot of weight are not truly people who go to the gym. We all started not being able to lift a lot of weight(with the exception of a few people with freak genetics). Hard work and discipline get you the gains you want to see. You getting into the gym has inspired me to get into chess. Make sure you’re doing all tricep heads too. I recommend doing overhead as well as a downward tricep exercise with cables for consistent ROM tension. Hopefully I’ll be good enough at chess one day to be able to give tips on this too.
