i do something similar with the Samsung s7 plus and my windows setup. having the pen input is always useful and having a second screen that isn't too big for a youtube tutorial or discord is nice. I use it as a second screen for my macbook as well when I'm stranded at school all day using Duet
Just done some testing. You can pin the Screen Mirroring and Display controls in the top menu bar and then switch quite easily between Sidecar and Universal Control. Like you I've found UC more useful than Sidecar. Amusingly, I discovered the keyboard and trackpad on the Logitech Combo Touch iPad Pro case will control the MacMini in reverse, so it doesn't matter which set of controls I use, I can control both devices!
I had the same issue with the MX Master 3 and not being able to scroll. The app logi options is the problem. If you download Logi Options+ beta (free), it fixes the issue. I had another issue with the gestures not working on my Mac but when I downloaded Logi Options+, it worked great. The issue is on Logitech’s end, not Apple’s.
I"m loving universal control in my home office setup. I've learned for my work office setup though that the iCloud account you use has to have 2fa turned on for universal control to work. So, unfortunately I can't get the benefits on my work office setup. Awesome stuff, Tom!
i clicked this because of the ipad stan. It look amazing. i've been using universal control and i love it. the biggest issue i've run at is that my keyboard is in spanich, but while controling the ipad, the ipad thinks that my keyboard is in english so the key are mapped incorrectly and i hate that!
one last question before i order... we are wondering about the monitor. do you think any new mac OS updates will prevent the use of non - mac monitors?
As far as the mouse scroll, I would blame the mx mouse over universal control. My MX master 3 has been a buggy mess even before I started using universal control. It always has trouble connecting to my M1 pro MBP, whereas it never gave me problems on my intel MBP. Also, all my mouse settings in Logi options seem to erase every once in a while so I have to add the mouse again to get everything working. Logitech just can't seem to get a good understanding of M1, as I have also heard Logitech webcams have been a disaster on M1. The only thing keeping me on this mouse is the ergonomics since I can't find another mouse that's as comfortable.
have you thought of flipping your mac studio and your ipad locations so that the ipad is on the right? then those menu screens would already be fully to the right and not accidentally bring you to the other monitor.
hey bro great video, I do have a question though - when using the iPad for meetings or calls, can you present your Mac studio screen on the iPad while attending the meeting?
@@ByteReview thanks for the reply, for now I think the m1 iMac will have to do with maxed out specs until the new one releases or I figure out a shorter newer desk setup for my room cuz my current desk A pain on my butt and my chair sucks too. Currently for now only using my iPad Pro with my other devices, the iPad Pro will always be my main device tho.
how did you get your mouse to work? I have an mx master 3 and it doesn't move around on the iPad. It only scrolls and clicks in place. But my MacBook air trackpad works just fine on the iPad.

You could have buy a bigger better secondary monitor if you want to do multitasking over another window. Not seeing universal control is benefitting that much.
Has universal control been reliable for you? - I have to turn it off on my iPad, then reboot it, then turn it on, then it finally shows up on the laptop, I take the devices to a different network, it's gone again, I come back home, still nothing until I jump through hoops again. I've tried following every troubleshooting guide in the first few pages of google to no avail! - Simple network with a single wifi network, bluetooth on, same account, it works, but have to jump through hoops and sometimes it's a simple reboot of the MacBook Pro M1 that makes it vanish again.

Secondary displays don't need to have CPUs inside them. You are spending a lot of money to have a tiny 11 inch extra screen. You could spend way less and get a much larger monitor like everyone else.
Why do you need to buy all that stuff to be productive? If you didn't buy all those new mice, keyboards, and tablets, you could get back a lot of your time.

You can use Siri Shortcuts + Apple script to toggle Side Car mode. and if it's a shortcut, then you can assign it to a keyboard shortcut.

Try the MX Master Keys keyboard. mine is a windows Mac hybrid Space grey and black keys but the have all white pure Mac one as well.
Luckily it seems to have sorted itself out now, which is nice!

I still am waiting to see an update iMac, but i may go the Mac studio m1 max setup with the studio display
I hope an updated iMac does come out, but until then the Studio and a monitor is a great choice - I'm enjoying mine a lot

My Logitech MX master 3 doesn't work properly with universal control. It's so annoying. Any idea how to fix it?
Try playing with Logitech Options and making sure you have the permissions set in security and privacy on the mac

Honestly - no. I feel like some days I’m luckily than others but it does mostly work well for me. But I’ll often have to reset my iPad for it to work
