It’s worth mentioning that you have to turn on your Mac then launch the luna display app using an external monitor before you can enter headless mode on your iPad. I purchased and returned it because sidecar was a better use case in my situation.
I recently bought it and set it to start automatically when I turn on my mac mini. Then time passes and the mac goes to sleep; I can get it to work from anywhere in the house that has WiFi, I just open the Luna Display app on the iPad and voila; I enter the password of my user and I can work without problem. (this is something that doesn't work with Sidecar, as you have to be logged in to enable it). Another thing I discovered is that with two fingers I can act as a mouse wheel (something that doesn't have a sidecar either) and what I didn't know is the right click issue, but well I solve it by pressing "control + click" so I only use a keyboard , in my case a Smart Keyboard Folio and the iPad
One of the other cool things about this setup (been using it since earlier this year) is that you can use your magic keyboard with it! Other setup for more wireless usage for programmers is hooking a raspberry pi as it can use the iPad as a power source.

I used to think that a set up like this would be necessary because the Intel Mac mini’s had upgradable RAM and better performance for the price over other Macs in it’s range. Now with Apple Silicon Macs, the 13” MBP is just as performant as the M1 Mac Mini so just using the portable laptop again is perfectly viable.

Very cool! I have duet display but the lag is quite noticeable and you can’t really do headless mode. Hey Tausif! I’m not a techie but I’m fascinated by DIY and customization. My mind is blown at your setup. I’ve been wanting to do a portable/ iPad/Mac mini setup for awhile now. Thank you so much!! 😄
You need to tell everyone the one caveat is that you have to leave the software running in the background (active) in the docking bar - if you close out of Luna on the min it wont connect on boot up. I’m using this in 2022 and have consistently had this issue. So do not close out of Luna when u power down your mini.
You know when you have to use a bluetooth dongle for computers that don’t have built in bluetooth? The dongle acts an alternative to the wire for a mouse or something. This does the same thing. It allows you to connect to a screen without the physical wire. It uses wifi. But if the wifi is low, you can connect directly via a usbc cable. Like a wired mouse when the dongle is blocked by too many things. Makes sense?
Wondering if you have any knowledge about colour accuracy when tethered to the Mac mini? Curious if it will maintain the p3 colour gamut (iPad mini 5 in my case) when connected. Also wondering if it would be useful as a reference monitor for video editing if colour accuracy can be achieved, if not maybe a calibration tool could be used like xrite and a separate display profile could be used for the iPad? Thanks for sharing this video by the way I had no idea there was such a device.
Awesome , the only thing is not clear for me is about when you use the wire, do you need Luna Display too, or you just plug the ipad to the mac mini ??

*Google is listening*
LOLLL DAMN. Haha well I’m glad I could help you get sorted though lmaoooo
@@TausifHussain haha yeah, I already have a desktop set up that I use with my laptop. I am going to use the same laptop for a couple more months, while I spend some money to get the iPad Air. Gonna try to use that tablet+magickeyboard off eBay for all my needs and if it works out, I will just buy a Mac mini, and if it does not, then naturally ill know I need to eventually dish out more money for the MBA/MBP.
Exactly bro that happened to me too
Why would google spy on Apple to report to Apple
Should I buy Mac mini M2 and can I use my samsung tab as main moniter or should I buy MacBook M1 @@TausifHussain
Great video, man. Love the energy.
Thank you bro! Love you!
@@TausifHussain 🥳
This video is actually pretty amazing. Great content!
Thank you!!!
Cool...but I understand nothing. When I use cable connection, do I need Luna dongle? What app u running on ipad, what app on Mac mini? How it configures on both sides? Do I need buy Luna dongle to use their soft with only cable? Why it's better than duet display u can use for free with cable? So many questions, but video is about - "hey, look, a giraffe!")
Hey Tausif! I’m not a techie but I’m fascinated by DIY and customization. My mind is blown at your setup. I’ve been wanting to do a portable/ iPad/Mac mini setup for awhile now. Thank you so much!! 😄
Could I use the Luna display with my very old … 2012 iMac, so I could use the iMac as the display with the Mac mini?
Isn't this the exact same functionality from macOS Sidecar? there are plenty of reviews of this being built-in...
At least watch the complete video before commenting.
You need to tell everyone the one caveat is that you have to leave the software running in the background (active) in the docking bar - if you close out of Luna on the min it wont connect on boot up. I’m using this in 2022 and have consistently had this issue. So do not close out of Luna when u power down your mini.
Wow I could see this being someone’s whole computer setup, esp if they have the 12.9” iPad Pro
It’s doable!
Do you think it would have any problem with Adobe
I must be missing something I watched it 4 times and still do not know how the dongle works or what it is supposed to do.
It basically connects to WiFi and streams it to the app if I’m not wrong
You know when you have to use a bluetooth dongle for computers that don’t have built in bluetooth? The dongle acts an alternative to the wire for a mouse or something. This does the same thing. It allows you to connect to a screen without the physical wire. It uses wifi. But if the wifi is low, you can connect directly via a usbc cable. Like a wired mouse when the dongle is blocked by too many things. Makes sense?
If apple had been advertising this functionality with the Mac mini, I would’ve bought it and an iPad 2 years ago. What a cool system!
Haha imagine a native way to do this from apple itself. That’d be so cool!
who has an ipad pro lying around lol
👋
Me👋
not pro but 10 👋
I have an iPod laying around 👋
Me lol
Great video.. can i use the ipad air for the new mac studio as a main monitor ???? I dont mean mirroring… i mean main and only one monitor…
I now know how to solve my quest of buying and using a Mac mini with no dedicated monitor. Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Wow!!!!
🤙🏼
What kind of iPad dock/stand is that? Great video!
Hey bro it’s from Grovemade! I have a video coming out showing off some of these accessories next week!
@@TausifHussain Sweet! Looking forward to your video. Thank you.
Wait a second. This guy is actually re-invented Macbook. Just 2x times expensive and less portable?
Wait, did you mean you can touch the macbook screen? Omg i should try it in my macbook pro.
Nice video but you never explained how you hooked up via usb-c. Does that require buying Luna or is it separate from Luna?
imagine if they just let us run macOS in the iPad native
Awesome , the only thing is not clear for me is about when you use the wire, do you need Luna Display too, or you just plug the ipad to the mac mini ??
This is incredible! Thanks for showing us the awesome seamless experience! I gotta grab me a Mac and that keyboard ⌨️!!!
Hey there! Super cool video! When you use it in photoshop : do you have Apple Pencil pressure sensitivity and all the pencil features? Or it simply works as a mouse?
Now we need a 23” mini-led iPad😎
Did you try with davinci resolve, I would love to know if this works on davinci resolve
