  • This is a one off, 100% custom electric power steering set up for my 1964 Chevy Belair that we fabbed up. We used the electric power steering motor from a Toyota Prius/corolla. From the dash forward the column looks completely factory. the motor is splined in and can be removed or replaced easily and it also has a modern U-joint.

Just reading the title, I was unsure about how this would work and look, but it's pretty slick! I'm glad you got rid of that column shifter, that thing was stressing me out!

Although that acts like a you joint. It does a couple more things. You might get jammed up without it on hard turns. Its meant for give and to take apart. A retractable shaft works better, i just put one in my 77 f250 out of a 94 f150 steering shaft.

Great video badass man thanks for sharing! Also why didn't you mount it on the firewall on the outside to minimize the problems with brake pedal and brake switch? Was their a reason you mounted it inside?

Rather it be out of the weather, also I prefer my engine bay to look cleaner. So just stuff it under the dash and make a easy brake switch bracket was the best option.
