This song is so dramatic, it still gives me chills 35 years on. I am a classical music composer and I always identify a-ha as a major influence along with Bach, Beethoven and Mozart.

I remember clearly when this album came out in october 1986, my sister brought it home and was very enthusiastic about it. I immediately liked what I heard. My sister who is three years older than me was disappointed and I more or less stole the cassette from her. It changed my perception of a-ha big time and really started to like them. The first side of the album which ends with Manhattan Skyline is the best album side from a Norwegian band by far in my opinion.

One of the most underrated songs from A-ha. I heard it was "banned" from the radio because of its dark lyrics and eerie atmosphere, and that's the reason this song didn't turn out to be a single too. But, in my opinion, that's A-ha at it's finest and inspired, not the overrated happy Take On Me.

YES. The opening of this song musically expresses the feel of anxiety perfectly. You mentioned a horror film and you’re not wrong, but to me if I could set anxiety to music, it would be the beginning of this song. As a kid I didn’t really understand what the lyrics meant at all, it just felt like a made-up story about someone caught in a scary movie. Now I identify with it to a degree, that feeling of wanting to run from situations that make me feel like I can’t cope. “We believe through the lies and the hating that love goes free.” Such a great line and an optimistic ending to a dark song.

This was their follow-up album after their debut "Hunting high and low".
Although "Scoundrel days" didn't sell as much copies as their debut album, it contained some of my favorite songs.
This one is one of my all-time favorites.
Rumor has it that it was because of songs like "Scoundrel days" and "Manhatten skyline" that Morten had to undergo through some surgical procedure to his vocal chords, due to the straining when singing live on stage.
Wow, he still has such an amazing voice.
You've just made me put that record on my record player and put on my headphones at full blast. 😂 😂
    One detail
Listening to one of my favorite bands while wearing a t-shirt of another of my favorite bands.
    Can't beat that with a stick. 😂 😂

You could hear Morten's voice cracking and sounding damaged during the concerts in East of the Sun and Memorial Beach tours, by the time of Minor Earth Major Sky his voice had already changed. He's still an amazing singer though, his voice is always full of emotions. By the way, A-ha and Depeche Mode are ny favorite bands too!

Without a doubt my favourite A-Ha song - dark lyrics but the the chorus hits such a hopeful creshendo - '...and see as our our lives are in making, we believe through all the lies and the hating...' so all the dark stuff is beaten by youth and hope!

One of my favourite songs ever. You should really check the live version from Live in South America concert film recorded in 1991 and released in 1993. It was directed by the American filmmaker Lauren Savoy whom the guitarist/songwriter Pål Waaktar married around that time, and later they formed and co-fronted a band called Savoy, where Pål, having then changed his name to Paul Savoy, changed his songwriting style dramatically, exploring much darker and rockier sonic territories. They sound more like an American band, actually. I really recommend you check Daylight's Wasting and Whalebone by Savoy - you'll surely be surprised if not blown away!

My favourite a~ha album, just pips HH&L to the post. Just ever so slightly. HH&L is, however, my all time favourite.
Reason being, the first 2 albums are heavily influenced by Norway, and therefore unique, as opposed to for eg Memorial Beach which is imo influenced by time in the USA.
