I was a projectionist and had to splice this movie together a week before it came out. I had to add previews before it and add extra film in the front so you could run it through three projectors at the same time and hit sync. That way you could show the same movie in multiple theaters 5 minutes apart. I had to watch the movie a week before it came out to ensure I didn’t mess up the movie after I put it together. After opening day, I got to take the movie standup home. I remember watching the OJ Simpson chase a week later while the standup was sitting to the right of the TV. How weird is it that the OJ Simpson chase was a week after this movie was released and I still remember it because of the standup I took home? It had a giant 3D bus exploding out of the center of it.

Jeff Daniels was supposed to be the inside man in an early draft. But they realized people would not like Keanu's best friend to be a traitor so they modified the script accordingly.
2:24 Jeff Daniels plays George Washington in a film called "The Crossing" in which I played an extra. I was having a friendly debate with another one of the extras about whether or not Jeff Daniels' character dies in this film. We finally approached Mr. Daniels during a break in filming and he confirmed that I was right. :)
In an original draft of the script, Harry (Jeff Daniels) was supposed to be the villain of the movie. He was the one that put the bomb on the bus. The elevator bomber would've died in the opening, but Harry would be forced to retire due to the injuries from that, namely being shot in the leg by Jack. Especially with Dumb and Dumber coming out the same year where Jeff Daniels character in that also being named Harry.

To answer a few questions: Jack couldn't have shot the bomber. He was using what's called a dead man's switch. As long as he grips it, it doesnt go off. If he's shot or killed and his grip loosens, it goes off. Fear, especially in a situation like they're facing, is paralyzing. You may want to move but your body feels like it's frozen. No, the bus jump wouldn't have worked. My opinion has always been that if they'd left that scene out, this would've been a plausible movie. One of 2 dings on this movie. Jumping out at 50mph, you may survive, but it's not likely. There's a chance but it isn't good. I've seen people die from falling off an 8 foot ladder. The jet that blew up was a courier plane (like UPS or FedEx) so only packages inside & it was being towed. However, in a situation like this, the airport should've been locked down and evacuated out of an abundance of caution. In fact, they'd usually evacuate any non essential personnel to a certain radius like say a mile. With a bomb and jet fuel everywhere, that could've triggered a huge explosion if it hit fuel storage tanks. It's not like they even needed the plane to be moving, since the bus was wandering aimlessly. It could've easily struck an abandoned, stationary jet. That is my other ding.
Me and my brother looked at each other in the theater and both said "they got subways in L.A.? We didn't know till watching Speed that Los Angeles had subway stations.
That's actually false. Most transit or city buses are able to go as fast as 75mph. A lot of buses have to be able to go faster than 50 especially if they drive on highways. People seem to have misconceptions about certain things

I just used your video as a teaching point in my class. You ladies are doing a great job with the channel. Hopefully you continue to grow! Also speed is a guilty pleasure movie of mine. I love that he shoots the hostage in the opening exchange with the villian.
I agree Speed Is a flat out 5 out of 5 rare flawless action movie or as close as It gets , they just don't em like this anymore. This reminds me how badly I miss the 90s , 1994 was such a strong year with Speed and Dumb And Dumber both coming out and they remain endlessly rewatchable favorites that never get old to me. Also I feel another thing that rarely gets mentioned anywhere Is how strong and Important 90s and 80s movie scores/soundtracks were , you could usually always count on them to be expertly tense , catchy , heartfelt , and undeniably memorable In all the right ways at the right times , enhancing already great scenes to another level. imo It's a lost art today and a crucial part of the secret sauce that made classics like this what they are , back when you wanted to own the soundtracks to the films as much as the films themselves.
back in June 1994, I actually saw this movie about a bus speeding down an LA freeway and then came home and saw the news coverage of the OJ bronco slow chase down an LA freeway
The scene where the bus jumps the gap on the interstate was tested on the tv show Mythbusters years ago. They determined that it could not be done. Great scene for the movie though.
My ex wife took me to see this movie when it first opened in 1994 at the Manns Chinese Theater for my 69th birthday. Enjoyed it then and still enjoy it today. Thanks to this video I’ll watch it again after I get out of work then the gym then home to enjoy a bottle of Patron Burdeos and dipped cigar.
To think, Keanu Reeves went from Bill and Ted...to SPEED...to the Matrix...to John Wick?? That's an Excellent Adventure!! I'm sorry you had to see the sequel...
Great movie. I heard that at the time of the movie Keanu lost his friend River Phoenix and this movie help him deal with the grief. You should watch Other Keanu Reaves (He is not just John Wick or The Matrix) great old movies like Point Break , Constantine , The Devil Advocate and Chain Reaction. He also has a early teen underrated comedy called The Night Before 1988.
Many people have questioned how the bomber survived the blast that threw Jack across the hallway in the first act. My personal explanation would be that the dynamite he was wearing could have easily been a fake, and he already had a real bomb strapped to some poor soul that law enforcement would surmise was "the bomber" just outside the hall door, and he detonated it just after slipping through another door into an area of the parking garage beyond a structural wall.
"There was a great movie about a bus that had a bomb on it and if the speed of the bus dropped below 50 the bomb would explode so the guy driving the bus had to keep the speed above 50 so it wouldn't blow up because if the speed was less than 50 it would blow up. I think the name of the movie is 'The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down.' " - Homer Simpson
Actual quote: I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to SPEED around the city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode! I think it was called "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."
Denis Hopper was a star in the 60's and he had a point in the 70's where he dropped out of site for a while to get clean and sober. His comeback movie was called My Science Project in the 80's and he has been going ever since up until he passed away. I believe he either was nominated or won it for something, not sure, so to get him to be the villain was a big deal
Great reaction you two.... This was 90s action staple with a great cast. It showed that Keanu Reeves can do an action roles & it put Sandra Bullock on the map. I hope that you two do even more great 90s reaction videos in the near future....
I was trying to think of some other movies like Speed to suggest. The only things that popped into my head was, Gone in 60 seconds, Need for Speed, and the Rush Hour movies. Have a wonderful day, Michelle and Natalie!
This movie was made as a response to the mindless bullet-ridden, corpse-riddled action movies of the 80's. The writer made it a point that the police officers are polite and always say Please and Thank You, Keanu Reaves only swears 3 times, the police don't fire their guns unless necessary, and everybody feels bad about the people who die.
That is.. its very 90s... that is, a bit more flushed put characters but ar the same time more absurd situation. Like for example true lies from the same year push that to the extreem. Also last action hero, from is it 93.. kind of make fun of the same 80s trope.
And here I was, naively thinking that Jeff Daniels would always be special to you because of his role in "terms of endearment". The guy's name, that you always forget, is Alan Ruck. Have a go at the "Spin City" series and you will remember his name well. A very memorable character he plays and actor's name is in opening credits and it sticks. Great fun with a few moving moments and - though a comedy - quite an eye opener. Dennis Hopper has always been good playing unhinged characters, since Apocalypse Now through Red Rock West through Speed and on, and not to forget Easy Rider.
I was 7 when Speed came out, my sister watched it a lot, as she is a huge Keanu Reeves fan. I enjoy the film, it works, the cast, the characters, the premise all fit together nicely and it feels organic. And said "Tourist" guy from Ferris Bueller was also in Star Trek, he was Captain of the Enterprise B, during the shakedown cruise, with Kirk and some of his officers doing a tour in the movie Generations. And the plane was empty, it was being towed by a little tug truck, its how they move them around without using tons of fuel in the jet engines.
Solid Reaction! 🖒 Watched this reaction earlier today upon release. Remembered watching this on VHS back with buddies in the 90's. This movie is certainly a TimePiece classic!
For those interested. The plane towed and exploded might have been a "Frankenstein" plane made up out of several others They were probably in the Mojave desert taking dust. A BOEING 707 made of a bunch of them. It even missed cockpit windows and main landing gear!!! The Avgeek in me flies high... 😂
dennis hopper, the crazy villain, was a close friend of james dean and had a minor role in dean's film "rebel without a cause" (1955). he made another appearance in the paul newman 1967 film "cool hand luke." then starred, with peter fonda, and directed "easy rider" (1969). in 1969 he was also in the john wayne classic "true grit" and the monkees film "head." he played the photojournalist in the end sequence of coppola's 1979 "apocalypse now." he later turned to "evil" man roles in a movie called "blue velvet" (1986, directed by david lynch) "speed" and kevin costner's "waterworld" (1995) and "the postman" (1997). he was making films to 2010 when he died and went to actor heaven. thanks for the video.
Your use of the expression "In the nick of time" reminded me of a movie bearing the title "Nick of Time", starring Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken.....
29:41 Referring to my earlier comment about meeting Jeff Daniels settling my debate with another extra in the film...Mr. Daniel replied, "Yep. I went out in a blaze of glory on page 126."
Thinking they only had a minute of tape total rather than a minute looping...thinking there were people on the plane being towed...I never realised this was a complicated movie...
I'm glad you liked it. I think you missed some funny moments, like when the cop says you're fired, everybody's fired about the freeway not being done. Keanu wasn't in the second Speed movie because I believe he was making a little movie called The Matrix. Too bad that franchise never took off (that's me being sarcastic). I don't think this counts as a date, Natallie, as you asked what they'd do on their second date. With the exception of the totally ridicules flying bus, this is a great movie. 90's 🧀
25:00 Nope, you're not wrong. There's no way a bus that size, with that many people aboard, could have made THAT jump. The little bit of a ramp at the end (which wasn't there when we saw the end of the road from the bus' POV) MIGHT have help it jump FIVE feet, but not 50 like the movie claims. LOL
I thought I read somewhere that in Dukes of Hazzard, more than 300 Dodge Chargers (or other cars with dodge charger bodies) were destroyed by jumping, most of them on the first jump. And they didn't jump very high. Also, these cars were modified to do the jump and still didn't survive. A bus would never be in working condition even if it made the jump.
@@ForceOfLightEntertainmentSo just for a bit of trivia, Speed and Dumb & Dumber were both released in 1994, Jeff Daniels starred in both movies and both characters he portrayed were named Harry.
I did a little search online and according to the AI that jump in the bus is possible if the other side of the gap is about 1/2 a meter lower than the starting side. The math does work, but there would be a lot of engineering involved. In reality a stuntman jumped the bus off of an 8-foot ramp they built on set.
Want makes me laugh about film that Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock both fancied each other but neither one did anything about it, I went to see anything with Sandra Bullock in liked her then still do, enjoy Ladies.

34:12 "Well, I'm thinkin' maybe nobody was _on_ that plane. It was just _sitting_ there. Yeah." "It was rolling out, so clearly, there's a pilot, at the very _least."_ It was being _moved._ Note the vehicle attached to its forward landing gear. That vehicle was _moving_ it. The plane in the airport was empty. Just before the bus hit it, it was shown that a truck was pulling the plane.
If I'm not mistaken, the plane that blew up was being towed . . .
Michelle was “too little” while I saw this when I was working at Disney World on the property (theater at Pleasure Island) through the college program.
😂😂😂
Great memories come with this one for me.
I just used your video as a teaching point in my class. You ladies are doing a great job with the channel. Hopefully you continue to grow! Also speed is a guilty pleasure movie of mine. I love that he shoots the hostage in the opening exchange with the villian.
Wow!! Thank you so much!! That means a lot!
29:45 you have to admire Natalie's optimism 😄
back in June 1994, I actually saw this movie about a bus speeding down an LA freeway and then came home and saw the news coverage of the OJ bronco slow chase down an LA freeway
😳😬
The scene where the bus jumps the gap on the interstate was tested on the tv show Mythbusters years ago. They determined that it could not be done. Great scene for the movie though.
Hey everybody!!! I hope you enjoy this reaction and have a blessed day! ❤
Same to you Natalie.
Thank you Natalie! The video and yours and Michelle's reactions were fun as always!
Hey Natalie, make sure you’re ready for your Carlton dance off this Sunday 💃😁
@@SinSationNation 💃 💃💃😆😝😜
@@natalieforceoflightenterta8857 I heard relationship based on intense reaction movie it's not good tho
Compelling characters, a tidy action plot, and great practical effects. Just another clean, fun movie from the 90s.
In 1993 Sandra Bullock was in a movie called "The Vanishing" with Kiefer Sutherland and Jeff Bridges.
I love that you both really had a lot fun with this film.
It was a fun film!
If the elevator scene is your worst nightmare, stay away from Final Destination 2
I really enjoyed this when I saw it. Lot of intense fun. Dennis Hopper played the villain. He was good at playing unhinged characters.😊
He was! Thanks KB!
I saw this in the theatre on my 12th birthday, so I got it afterwards on vhs, on dvd and now on blu-ray. ☺
Good memory!
Spoilers: keanu and sandra both admitted to falling for eachother during this movie, but both were too shy to ask the other out. Missed opportunities.
To think, Keanu Reeves went from Bill and Ted...to SPEED...to the Matrix...to John Wick?? That's an Excellent Adventure!! I'm sorry you had to see the sequel...
Genuinely one of the most fantastically crafted action films of all time endlessly rewatchable with that incredible score by Mark Mancina.
Thanks!
Saw it in theaters. 1994 was a great year for movies. Shawshank, Pulp Fiction, Lion King, True Lies, Forest Gump, Clerks...
It was a great year!
This movie have some of the best one liners
I was fifteen years old, saw this opening day. Really good.
Office building, prison, same thing. That's why I'm an entrepreneur and pastor. No cubicle. Lol.
I was just entering teens and I'll admit I mostly salivated over Keanu (still do, tbh) but yes, the bus jump even then registered as "Oh, C'mon!"
Saw on its original release 30 years ago...and many times since.I was 25 in 1994...yes,that old🎩
Denis Hopper was a star in the 60's and he had a point in the 70's where he dropped out of site for a while to get clean and sober. His comeback movie was called My Science Project in the 80's and he has been going ever since up until he passed away. I believe he either was nominated or won it for something, not sure, so to get him to be the villain was a big deal
He also was in Blue Velvet, River's Edge and Hoosiers (earned an Oscar nomination) around the 80s.
I love watching the red leader watching film so intently, it's like we're watching them together 😘
Great reaction you two....
This was 90s action staple with a great cast. It showed that Keanu Reeves can do an action roles & it put Sandra Bullock on the map. I hope that you two do even more great 90s reaction videos in the near future....
Thank you!!
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment - You're welcome ladies 😁👍
Speed was an absolute 90's VHS movie at school day PHENOMENON.
The airline was being pulled by a plane loader in the front, and the guy runs away before the explosion.
12:28 This woman doubts Sandy's commitment to Sparkle Motion.
I was trying to think of some other movies like Speed to suggest. The only things that popped into my head was, Gone in 60 seconds, Need for Speed, and the Rush Hour movies. Have a wonderful day, Michelle and Natalie!
Thank you!! You too!
Neat fact the Helen the panicked lady actress was in Xhilds Play 2 as the teacher killed with a ruler
Presumably one of the most interesting reactions to Speed ever and by the most beautiful critics ever seen, thanks ladies !
Aww thank you!!
Sandra Bullock was fantastic in this her breakout movie. I know she was in DEMOLITION MAN before SPEED, but SPEED made it for her.
Alan (Cleveland man) is also in twister and ferris Buehler
I was 7 when Speed came out, my sister watched it a lot, as she is a huge Keanu Reeves fan. I enjoy the film, it works, the cast, the characters, the premise all fit together nicely and it feels organic. And said "Tourist" guy from Ferris Bueller was also in Star Trek, he was Captain of the Enterprise B, during the shakedown cruise, with Kirk and some of his officers doing a tour in the movie Generations. And the plane was empty, it was being towed by a little tug truck, its how they move them around without using tons of fuel in the jet engines.
And the Black Captain was in Terminator 2 as the designer of the chip
I like to think Harry survived with a really bad head injury and then met Loyd.
😂😂💚
Myth Busters proved that the bus jump would not work. Glad it did in the movie. Good reaction ladies.
Thank you!
Solid Reaction! 🖒
Watched this reaction earlier today upon release. Remembered watching this on VHS back with buddies in the 90's. This movie is certainly a TimePiece classic!
Thank you! ❤
For those interested.
The plane towed and exploded might have been a "Frankenstein" plane made up out of several others
They were probably in the Mojave desert taking dust.
Thanks for watching/commenting!
I was born in 1990 when this movie premiered in cinemas I was 4 years old but I saw it for the first time in 1997
Your use of the expression "In the nick of time" reminded me of a movie bearing the title "Nick of Time", starring Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken.....
Point Break (1991) "110% Pure Adrenaline" really put Keanu on the next level 💯❤️🙂✅️🧡
The two of you might need a spa day after all that stress it looked like the two of you were going through. Haha! Great reaction!
Thank you!!
after jumping that bus we can jump anything!
😂
29:41 Referring to my earlier comment about meeting Jeff Daniels settling my debate with another extra in the film...Mr. Daniel replied, "Yep. I went out in a blaze of glory on page 126."
Thinking they only had a minute of tape total rather than a minute looping...thinking there were people on the plane being towed...I never realised this was a complicated movie...
This is one of my favorite action films! Just as good as Die Hard imo 😍
One of my favorite action movies. And Sandra hubba hubba!
Harry’s name was Harry Dunne 👍
Thanks!
@@ForceOfLightEntertainmentSo just for a bit of trivia, Speed and Dumb & Dumber were both released in 1994, Jeff Daniels starred in both movies and both characters he portrayed were named Harry.
Harry's last name in Dumb and Dumber was "Dunn."
Thank you!
Dennis Hopper!! Seen many reactions of this movie 🍿🎥 and No one gives Dennis a shout out. A iconic actor since the 1950's. You two are awesome to watch I HAVE TO subscribe!! Great Channel!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Thank you Allen! Peace to you!
34:12 "Well, I'm thinkin' maybe nobody was _on_ that plane. It was just _sitting_ there. Yeah."
"It was rolling out, so clearly, there's a pilot, at the very _least."_
It was being _moved._ Note the vehicle attached to its forward landing gear. That vehicle was _moving_ it. Also note that the forward door of its passenger compartment was open and then try to remember that there are abundant _other_ reasons they move planes around airports; reasons that do not involve _flight_ crew.
It was a blast hanging out with you.
🥰
😁😉
This was released the week before I graduated from high school 😮😮😮
