Be kind and don’t make jokes at the expense of Mormons, ya’ll. You have no idea how traumatic it is to go through losing your faith and discovering the truth. It is literally like being told you’ve been plugged into the matrix this entire time. Try to imagine that for a second, like really imagine it. That’s the closest thing you could imagine to what this is like. Some of us become suicidal, and all of us take years to process the trauma. Be kind.
I am currently going through a major shift of truth. Discovering that what you believed as truth since birth, is in fact false... has caused extreme dissociation for me. Coming to terms with the fact that my entire childhood and religious views are corrupt and lies is exactly like waking up in the matrix. I’m glad I found out though. I don’t regret choosing truth.

I'm very glad I was not born in a religion and/or family that would treat me different for leaving that religion. I became an atheist in my 20's about 35 years ago and it never made a difference with how I interact with my friends and family.
They will all shun and will start to part with you, a religion so much about close-knit families for eternities is the same religion that breaks up many families

I talked to an ex-Mormon one time and she talked about how hard it was to leave the church. And how hard the emotional trauma is. Something she said that really stuck out to me was that she’s happier as an ex-morning then she ever could’ve been in LDS. I doubt anyone will even read this comment but if you do by chance and you are questioning LDS, you aren’t alone and I send you love, and strength❤️
No matter what church you are a part of....question everything. You are a unique creation , and will understand what is true in your own way. Guidance is a good thing...but you must come to understanding through your own revelations.

I’m reading this and was also raised Mormon. My family will basically mourn me as dead when I admit I have no plans to ever go back or raise my children that way. But I am happier than ever and feel more connected to God than any point in time ever.
I left the church 6 years ago and at times I think about going back because I do miss a lot of things about the church , I've got great memories of dance festivals, road shows, picking oranges for the church, pioneer day parades but church was way different back in the 60s& 70s they started changing in the 80s or I just got smarter and I'm kind of hard headed and fought a lot of their beliefs, I just couldn't agree with most of it and boy it upset mom, after mom passed I turned my back and yes it is hard but I found a good southern Baptist church that I really enjoy, I haven't joined yet but when I finally commit I would like to get rebaptized because after learning the whole truth I don't feel like my LDS baptism is a true.

I understand being born into a religion and not questioning dogma, but I never understood how Smith convinced so many people to leave their already established faith into something radically different.
Look up the Second Great Awakening, American Exceptionalism in the 1800s, and Manifest Destiny. TL,DR; Mormonism supported mainstream/popular politics, philosophy, and culture of 1800s America. Mormonism's doctrinal roots and the social sphere of the United States during Smith's era are nearly inseparable; it's a very "American made" religion, in a manner of speaking. The beliefs taught by the church would have been agreeable and sensible to some of the people of that time.

This is what I think about all the time when I think about the Latin American converts. I don’t understand how teenage boys (the missionaries) can go to Brazil or Argentina and successfully convert Latinos to Mormonism today. Catholicism has such a deep, cultural hold on us Latinos. Don’t understand how teenage missionaries who barely speak Spanish pull them away from their fathers’ faith.

Christians are the easiest converts! I always say mainly because a lot don't truly study and have the same discipline as other religions and also for the lack of knowledge of other religions. So it's easy to sell someone a really good story wien they don't honestly know what they believe in.

The worse part is that Mormons are loving and kind. We were all raised to to do good and all we want is to be good but it’s so cruel to find you’re completely wrong. The leaders abuse our good nature and kindness. When everything you know, your family, friends, ideas, time, and money is all centered around the church, it is so hard to question anything. I have invested 46 years of my life with my wife and children in the church. We were greatly blessed by living the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. We know it to be true. There are answers to all the purported evidences and accusations against the Church. It has always been the war between good and evil. We know where we stand. Whose side are on? We know “there must be an opposition in all things”(2Nephi 2:11). We also know that “we must be tried in all things” that we may be prepared to receive the glory that the Lord has prepared for us” (D&C 136:31).
There is no pretending for us - we know the church is true. Anything which inviteth to do good is of God and anything which inviteth to do evil is of the devil.

You are not alone. The links shared here will all be great places to start. I highly recommend taking it slowly. Tackle each new bit of information individually. Research it. Don't let yourself feel snowballed if you can help it. There is a very real danger of becoming overwhelmed during your research. 50 problems is just scratching the surface, and each point has a whole world of information and stories behind it. Mormon Stories is a great place for a thoughtful dialogue (listen to a mixture of both old and new episodes). The r/mormon and r/exmormon subreddits are also extremely helpful. There is a community of questioning/doubting/former Mormons more than 100,000 strong there. They won't mock you or judge you. I've been where you are today, and so have many others.

I was born into the church and I was ready to devote my life to it. I’ve really been questioning a lot about it lately, however. A lot of things didn’t make sense to me. Church leaders always encourage us to study the church to answer our questions, but they specifically teach that we should only look for answers through the church. Now I see why they don’t want us looking outside of the church mediums. Watching this video was a rude awakening. I’m definitely sad that everything I’ve been taught and had believed completely is false and it’s gonna take a while to let that really sink in, but I’m done with the church. Once I leave my parent’s place (hopefully when I turn 18) I’m leaving for good.

I was raised Mormon. I remember being 10 or 11 years old and asking honest, genuine questions and getting harsh reactions from adults. Pretty quickly, I began to realize many answers were insincere and superficially convenient. My doubts steadily grew until I was 19 and said "No way I'm serving a mission. I don't believe this stuff. How can I tell somebody to convert?". Never been back.
billyman Same here. I was 10 and left at 22. I’m glad you had a good head on your shoulders. Critical thinkers are so quickly shut down. The more I wanted to sincerely learn, the more I was labeled as not having a testimony. “Pray until it’s true” 🙄
@@kbs1212 Ugh, I got the same advice. Keep praying. There's some good aspects to being Mormon but I just can't accept the blatant lies, manipulation and greed (tithing). Good luck to you. Sounds like we both broke through to the other side and have a healthier view of the church.
I also had simular issues! I was even taken to the bishop who discussed with me that my problem (i.e. the questions I asked & critical thinking about the runaround answers I was given that left me with even more questions) was due to my own failing: lack of faith. I WAS A CHILD and they berated me for my ability to be analytical and seek clarification of what didn't make sense to me! This is only one reason I left - I could go on for days with more but I won't. Most has already been said by many other comments. Peace to you all!
I have a very similar experience. I truly wanted to believe it.... I mean who really truly wants to be a black sheep jack mormon apostate anyway. But I would have genuine logical questions and the answer would either be harsh or painfully vague like "its gods plan" or "pray about it" or "just worry about the basics, they are what really matter"

@@sahadhassan4764 The Bible only really addresses one world. Joseph Smith, Jr., addresses cycles of worlds and of eternity. He got his information from having opened up the book sealed with seven seals that teaches the end from the beginning and how one world flows to another world. Each world has its own Elohim that is composed from the previous worlds Savior, who becomes the Father, and those who become one with him as joint heirs with him. The Bible actually teaches this too, but people don't know how to find and interpret the master blueprint of creation.

The fact that Dallin Oaks is quoted saying “It's wrong to criticize leaders of the church, even if the criticism is true” shows that if all these points are true and the religion is indeed based on falsehoods it’s true members won’t care because the fear of being wrong your whole life is greater than the quest for the truth. It’s called weakness. That’s why members that figure out the truth and leave the faith are so angry.

The real god doesn’t appoint people to represent him and intimidate people into submission to right checks and vote politically to protect ignorant views. He gave us all equality and built this world from love for all of us to have a chance at a happy existence. I honestly feel bad for people that are brainwashed by the church. +Lizzy Bee it's very liberating. I don't feel guilty all the time. I don't feel like I have something to prove to others. Most of all: I get to come up with my own answers to the big questions without having to make sure it agrees with a list of crap that includes things like: Adam and Eve had no blood and that Eden was in North America. Also it's great not to be accountable to some old man in an office who likes to prescribe condescending literature when I tell him about my shortcomings. Oh the list goes on and on :D

I left the church a few months ago. I’m 13, I’m very grateful I left as early as I did. There’s so much emotional damage that has happened to me and I haven’t even been in it for very long. I’m very lucky that my mom is leaving the church too so I can talk to her and she is supportive. My dad isn’t supportive but I understand why. When I was in the church my mom said she left, and I cried for a long time. I’m so happy that I left
I’m 18 and also just left recently. My family isn’t leaving the church but I was lucky enough for them to still be understanding and loving. And I agree, so much emotional damage that is hard to understand until you actually go through it

Cel As a former convert, I would like to point out that these feelings which they claim are from the spirit can also be achieved through group song. I experienced it at an MLM conference. Humans are very perceptive creatures, with strong empathetic pathways. When we are in a group of people who are happy about something, that feeling can be contagious. Please don’t let it dictate truth. You can be just as happy and fulfilled without sticking to cult rules.

I grew up Mormon. I am not naive, and I know that it is very problematic in a LOT of ways. There is definitely a lot of sexism, unanswered questions, and shameful tactics. But people need to realize that 95% of Mormons are just people living their life and not bothering anyone. You may disagree with their teachings, and I don’t blame you, and you may be asking yourself why a lot of them stay in the church. But it’s hard for members to just abandon their way of living after so many years. A lot of them have put so much emotional and spiritual energy into it. So please, don’t sit here and judge every single Mormon person just because of a video you watched. It’s so easy to judge on the outside looking in. Let people be happy. Your neighbor being Mormon isn’t effecting your life. And if it is, I think the problem isn’t them, it’s you. Just like if your neighbor was gay, Muslim, republican, trans, etc.
The purpose of this video is to promote skepticism, examination, introspection, and ideally a shift in belief. As a former Mormon, these topics are all things I wish I had known before giving 25 years to a system that I now know to be false. I have many friends and family members who remain in the church, and have nothing but love for them, and hope they are happy. But I feel a duty to speak the truth, even when the truth is hard to hear.

My family are mormons ( I am not). They are some of the kindest most giving people I know. On a daily basis my 67 year old mother is feeding someone, taking and elderly sister or brother to the doctors, spending her free time counselling for free (my mother is a retired drug and alcohol counsellor)! My father is an ex alcoholic who credits my mother and his decisions to join the LDS faith as the catalyst that turned his life around. My father is a very strong faithful man who like my mother spends his free time helping those that need help. Anyone who needs help, not just mormons!!! Charity is promoted heavily in the religion and was taught to us everyday by our parents with words and their actions! I do not agree with so many of the LDS church policies, but saying all Mormons and mormonism is bad to me is INCORRECT! My family are real examples of why these statements are not true!

This video is so soft and peaceful. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded and raised up in Mormon culture. I'm 17, I dropped out of the church a few years ago. Lots more people need to view this. I honestly feel like Salt Lake would be a more comfortable place for a lot of people if it wasn't drowning in LDS religion. But, then avian, to each their own.

Ariel the mermaid None of us have any way of knowing anything about John Lee other than he is obviously a person who enjoys playing head games with people rather than engaging in any sort of proper conversation. Fact is, there are a lot of people like him in the church, who take a very aggressive approach towards former Mormons and are quite fundamentalist in their approach to the church. And boy are there a lot of them on social media. But there are more people who are not like him, who are kinder and less fundamentalist, they're just not particularly loud on social media. So, do Mormons shun? Absolutely. Within active membership they have their social cliques like any other organised group of humans. If you stop attending and are viewed as someone who has merely fallen away from the fold and can be fellowshipped back in, then you might be treated with much love and compassion. But if you actually leave due to discovering truths about the church (and then even worse, become vocal about those truths), you will at best find yourself on the social outskirts of Mormonism and at worst disowned and cut off from family and friends.

It's so crazy to think how many people follow this religion. I live in Utah, when I was younger I could not play with the LDS children because the parents wouldn't let me, because I wasn't Mormon. It was a very odd experience. My family actually moved around quite a bit and this happened in multiple neighborhoods, they welcome you into the neighborhood, and kind of pry into your business. They like to stay together, it's really strange. You would think they would be more accepting

That was enough to make parents think we were bad kids. Plus we really didn't have a steady church we went to. We actually went to multiple churches to try to find the one that we like the most, but the Mormon church was not up there on the list

finally was able to stop attending church/seminary my senior year. had to lie to my parents about my schedule and say i couldn’t fit seminary in, and they finally gave up and stopped forcing it on me. i still have a lot of mormon friends and i still love my very mormon family, but seriously i was going insane and religion did not help whatsoever. those of you being forced to go, hang in there. don’t let anything get to you. the members themselves are alright, but the teachings and gospel itself can be so harsh and confusing. don’t forget who you are in the midst of it all.
@Theo Lionheart there’s so much that messed with me. some of the book of mormon itself is very fucked up, the way they pound in your brain how smoking weed or even drinking coffee is horrible, the disrespect for lqbt+ community as a whole, and what mainly got to me was the idea that god has a plan for everyone. i struggle with severe suicidal ideation and i started to genuinely think that if god has a specific plan for everyone that it was part of my plan to end my life and my death would just be another one of gods messed up trials for my family. it got really fucking bad.

I was born into Mormonisn.. I never truly believed, I constantly questioned what I was being taught, like when my mom said never marry a black man because they are cursed by God, I did not believe it. I look back and I'm proud-yet shocked- that at such a young age, I was able to keep myself from being brainwashed. I have wondered why me? Why did I get away when so many others are still stuck? .. I can honestly say I never developed a real testimony because I left the church at 12 years old. Well saying "left" the church is stretching it.. I was more bullied out due to my questions and disbelief in what I was being taught.

My story is very similar to yours. I never believed and left at 12yrs old also. I had a rough time when in, and am still very damaged from how my Mormon family system affected me in childhood, but oh boy do others have it so much worse.

I was born and raised a Mormon. As so was my mother. My father converted when he married my mother. I grew up going to church every Sunday. I have studied the bible, Book of Mormon, have taken seminary, etc. After my father passed away when I was nine years old my family casually stoped going to church. And it's the best thing that has ever happened to me. My eyes finally opened up after years of brain washing. I mean, the facts are there. Mormonism is false. Leaving the church isn't wrong, it's logical.

I’m a Mormon currently and I don’t think my parents will accept me for who I am. My friend group is LDS and very open minded (except for a few) I love the way this church has accepted me, but they won’t if they know the real me. They have been my comfort but I can’t see myself staying in the church because there is just so much wrong with it. Right now I go to seminary daily and go to church every week, but when I move out I think I’m going to leave. I’ve tried to ask for help when my faith in god was low, but they just told me to “pray about it” how am I supposed to do that when I don’t think anyones listening? Thank you for making this video. I hope that I’ll get past this time In my life.
No matter what happens, just remember that it will get better. Your parents will come around, and your relationship with them will heal after they get through the grieving process. A big problem with mormons is that it's quite difficult to leave the religion, especially if all your life revolves around it. If you're old enough you should tell your parents what you really feel about it and you have to be persistent with it because they'll surely try to convince you otherwise.
I promise there is someone who always is listening. Keep and open mind because prayers don’t always come answered at the time or in the form we expect them to but they always do get answered. We love you.

I am 15 and consider myself to not be a member anymore, when growing up I had no feelings towards the church, and I didn’t feel spiritual, it I kept quiet cause I thought that was just how everyone feels. I finally told my mom and she did not except my feelings, and it hurts. I still have to go to church related activities, camps, and bible studies and it’s so stressful. And I don’t know what to do because whenever I say that I don’t want to participate she says I don’t have a choice in it. It feels like I’m trapped
While you live at home, just go to church and try and enjoy your friends like I did, then when you leave home then make the decision to never go back. Also, as I got older I was able answer a lot of my own questions that bothered me for years. Good luck
You need to have a SERIOUS heart to heart conversation with your mom. She needs to understand that not everyone is going to be the same or feel the same way about certain things. It's...interesting. For the first 10 years I believed, and still do to a certain degree, that the people here were genuinely the kindness, most thoughtful people I had ever met. I have met many Mormons who I believe will be lifelong, close friends. As I began to crack the surface, however, and get deeper into the culture it's extremely troubling. Many of the practicing Mormons I know are completely oblivious to the facts presented in this video. In fact, I've had many arguments about polygamy and consistently hear Mormons say Joseph Smith did not practice, when the LDS website ITSELF admits to it. This and many of the other facts about Joseph Smith are apparently swept under the rug. It's somewhat humorous that non-practicing Mormons at times know more about the Mormon religion than the practicing Mormons themselves.
Culturally there are many, many problems in Utah. The social pressure on teens here is staggering. They are expected to adhere to certain moral codes, and even something as simple (and healthy) as masturbation is looked down upon so harshly that many teens suffer extreme feelings of guilt and depression.
In fact, Utah has a horrible problem with teen suicide rates. Unfortunately, combining this with the extremely anti-homosexual stances of the church has led to suicide rates that are something like 60% above the national average for LGBT teenagers. In high school, I knew personally 4 teenagers who regrettably chose to end their own lives and was close friends with two of them. It is not only a terrible tragedy for the teenagers themselves and their families and friends, but for all of the children who have to be part of an environment where this occurs so frequently.
Provo and its surrounding cities (Orem, Spanish Fork, Lindon, etc) are also stuffed full of pyramid schemes and shady business practices. Out of college, I had the displeasure of working for multiple companies that were essentially just well thought out scams, just skirting the laws enough to be considered legitimate. You ever seen those ads that say something along the lines of "make $5000 a month working from home"? Many of those companies are based in Utah, run by Mormons.
I could make an entire video of my own describing my experience working for a "coaching" company, but I'll just give a quick summary: the gist is that they target older people with limited computer skills and sell them on the idea of having an automated, online business that takes little effort on their part. A get rich quick scheme, essentially. They sign a contract and, conveniently, are scheduled their first "Welcome Call" just outside of their 3 day right to rescind. It is on their Welcome Call that they learn that they will be taught how to sell on eBay, manage their own eCommerce site, and learn affiliate marketing tactics, none of which are automated at all.
Provo also has a large presence of companies like doTERRA and Young Living, feasting on the many depressed and vulnerable people here. It's sickening.
In any case, just had to get some of these feelings out. Thank you for making this video and hopefully opening the eyes of some.
I live in Orem and totally understand all of this. I’ve grown up in Sandy with life long devout Mormon friends, and just very recently they’ve caught on to my stance on the church, which is that I don’t believe it at all. After they found out, they started contacting me a lot more and there’s always this weird awkward tension when we hang out. It sucks because I know there is no way I could get them to see from a different perspective due to how devout they are. They are blind to all of the logic and facts about the church. I honestly want to move to a different state just to get away from all of this.

Dude this is exactly how the solar industry is. In case you are unaware, almost all door-to-door sales companies are run by Mormons. I'm in SC, but I was baptized because I associated with them. I thought they were good people, but I lost ties with them all. One of them burnt me on a business deal. I've worked for several (seven) solar companies, all but two had Mormons working there as higher ups. All of them had major issues, from lying to people about how much they'd receive, to simply not paying upon leaving. I've heard stories of Mormons charging people what they could not afford and not explaining they would not be eligible for tax benefits due to them being retired/elderly and their non-taxpayer status. It's really horrible that they somehow think that church "doctrine" (is it?) that we become affluent, independent, and wealthy, is somehow higher than the basic rules of care, honesty, and truthfulness that should be present in business deals - religious/Christian or not. I will no longer work in the field

I have decided that ANY religion that looks down on any human for their race, sexual orientation, etc... is not a God-loving Church. I’m sure someone will read this and bust out scripture on what the Bible says about homosexuality. Save it. I’m aware of what it says, but I’m also aware that the Bible has been re-written more times than any other piece of literature in the history of humankind. God bless all of you.

I was 18, it was summer. I had plans to go on a mission in January. I had just gotten home from a long flight, and it was a Sunday morning. My mom asked if I wanted to go to church, and I said “nah, I want to rest.” She said cool, and left. I said I would watch church virtually, because it was still during corona, but something weird happened. Instead of watching the church broadcast, I was prompted to look up “Mormon church debunked.” I had never looked up anything like that in my life before because I was brainwashed into not doing that, but I guess in a moment of clarity, my brain reasoned, “If this really is the true church, there should be nothing wrong with looking up something like this, because I should be able to explain everything.” This video was traumatizing at first but It ended up opening a rabbit hole of research that brought me to the conclusion that this whole thing was a fucking sham. That ended up completely changing the course of my life, I now spend every Sunday free, didn’t do a mission, and I don’t pay 10% of my income to this stupid bullshit cult. I hope to help my family out of this, but I fear they won’t choose to hear the message like I did.

Switching from being mormon to agnostic atheist has changed the way I view my mortality in a much more motivating way. I have an story similar to yours, in a moment when I was 18 a RUclips video also came up on my recommendations about problems with Mormon church, because of I was so brainwashed at that time I got so mad when I saw the video, I didn't even watch half of it and instead I throw hate comments to it without even wanting to think logically about what the video said, two years later the same video showed on my profile but that time I decided to watch it completely and reason about it, I realized about everything and made me be so disappointed and even disgusted, I regret I did not complete watching the video before
I've always been mormon since I was a kid, but when I was about 11 I stopped going because some of the kids were bullying me. Later when I was about 16 I started to go again because I found people who were actually nice and they didn't pressure me to go to church. I now know now that there are some people in the church who are corrupted, and there are those who aren't. I try to stay away from people who pressure me into going to church when I don't want to. As they are trying to take advantage of me.
I think it's important to attend a church not because of the people there, but because you believe what the church believes is true. The big question is why do you believe that Mormons have it right in terms of religion and scriptures?

Not really. There is a lot of misinformation in this. Not even the first point is truthful.
The first point is absolutely true. Even apologists accept that Joseph pulled directly from the King James Bible when translating the Book of Mormon. There are specific words which are incorrectly translated in the KJV which other translations correct. Look at the picture. It is not pulled directly from the KJV. So trying to claim it is isn't being honest.

Let's look at a specific example: Isaiah 9:1 in the KJV contains a word which most closely resembles "weighty." This can mean either "weighing a great deal; heavy," or "of great seriousness and importance."
The Book of Mormon and KJV Bible translate it this way:
"Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did *more grievously afflict* her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations."
Every other translation not based on the KJV renders the verse with a completely opposite meaning:
"But there will be no gloom for her that was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zeb′ulun and the land of Naph′tali, but in the latter time he will *make glorious* the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations."

It would seem that this is an error, since every scholarly effort to create a more accurate translation corrects this verse. It also makes more sense in context, providing a contrast between the way Zebulun was formerly regarded, and the way it will be regarded at a later time.
Regardless of whether you see this translation choice as an error, it is a fact that this and other word choices are unique to the KJV, and therefore the fact that they accord with the wording of the Book of Mormon indicates that Joseph copied them rather than translate them.

Oh my gosh. Some of this I already knew about, but a lot of it is new information to me. I was raised Mormon, but stopped going to church when I was probably 5 or 6 because they played some game with all us kids where they lined us up in the hallway and had us blindfolded. I don't remember what the point of the game was, but I remember being terrified by the blindfold and I was apparently scared enough that my mom didn't force me to go back until I was ready. I think I went back one after I got baptized when I was 8, but I was suuuuper shy at the time. They brought me up in front of everyone to re-introduce me (they didn't need to since I went to school with all the kids that were there anyway) and being put on the spot to introduce myself in front of everyone terrified me again and I bribed my mom afterwards, telling her I would rather do chores every Sunday than go back to church. She didn't force me to go back, though now she says she wishes she did. I have to remind her that if she had forced me, I would have probably just grown to hate her and hate church even more. But I still believed until I was around 10 years old, when it just felt like there wasn't anybody listening when I prayed every night, like I was just praying to thin air.
I didn't know ANY of the contradictions within the religion until later when I was in high school and heard about the more in depth beliefs from my Mormon peers. It was fascinating talking to them about it, but it all seemed so ridiculous to me. I am so happy my mom never forced me to go back to church.

Thank you for this video. I grew up a member and rarely (Practically never) questioned anything that I was taught growing up. The past couple years I've kinda just stopped going for various reasons but I always had this little voice in the back of my head saying "But what if it is true and I'm ruining my chances at Eternal Life?"

The reason that the confusion stops is because once you have given up on Exaltation the Adversary has accomplished his goal and he has won. As we work through the confusion and as we demonstrate our faith and conviction the Adversary backs off but he will keep on trying. Pressing forward will always meet resistance. It’s not easy but it’s definitely worth it. Being loyal to our testimony is a constant challenge because of the pressures of opposition. That is the sure indication that you’re on the right path. Just like plowing a field or climbing a mountain. When the resistance is gone you can be sure that something isn’t right.

I left the church while I was at BYUI and leaving the church was almost as damaging to myself and my life as growing up in it. For the longest time I've tried to leave the church in the past without being able to actually move on. Of course, family and friends made this whole journey much more difficult. After watching your video I can finally feel the lightness of freedom and the empowering knowledge that I can truly find the truth for myself. Thank you so much! I used be part of the L.D.S. church, and I am surprised how un-confrontational this is. Not all 50 points make much sense in the context of being a problem, but I left for many of the reasons put forth here. It took me ten years of study, prayer and thought before deciding that how ever good the church membership is (and for the most part they are) I can not accept the idea that Joseph Smith or Brigham Young were prophets of God. I might be wrong, but I have to do what my mind, my heart, and the spirit (through prayer) have lead me to.

I am a Mormon and I am definitely not brainwashed I choose to believe these things and do the best I can to follow. Everyone throwing shade and saying that Mormon church treats its members badly when really only a small fraction of members have left. They've started to address them over the last six years or so. it is a shamed. I served a mission in my youth and had strong testimony. sadly this testimony was based my my desire for eternal life and i liked the security of the church, It all started falling away when i realized that i was gay and that the church was full of lies. Darren Clifford I’m gay, from Fort Lauderdale, and met a gay Mormon before. Mormons overall ARE the nicest people I’ve ever met (he was too and am sure he’s still a practicing Mormon). His parents were fine with his sexuality. One thing I really like about the Mormons is that alcohol is prohibited (I don’t see the point as the stuff kills twice the number opioids kill every year).
I'm currently 14 and I know for a fact that I'm leaving the church, but my family is extremely faithful. My dad is in the bishopric in then church. I don't want to go to the temple, do missionary work, all that stuff. But I don't know how to tell my parents that. I feel like I'll let them down and they'll treat me differently. I had lessons for months with missionaries (elders) some time ago, and I thought that eternal family is something very nice, but I stopped because the church had polygamy in the past, the missionaries (elders) told me it happened in the past, not any more... I now searched wikipedia about the current prophet/president of the church who is Russell M. Nelson, and I noticed that Russell M. Nelson was married to Dantzel White who is now dead, but Russell M. Nelson is now married to Wendy L. Watson... my question is:

Watson in the celestial kingdom? if Russell M. Nelson will have these 2 wives after death in the celestial kingdom, why did the missionaries (elders) told me that polygamy does not exist anymore?
they're not allowed to practice polygamy in life because of the laws, but yes president nelson according to the beliefs will have both of them as his wives in the afterlife so they basically still believe in polygamy
@@chandlerlamb2419 Correction: they’re not LEGALLY allowed to have more than one wife in the United States. As a man in the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints, you can still be sealed for time and eternity to as many women as you want or will have you…and there’s nothing in the law that prevents your from having carnal knowledge of someone outside your marriage….so it’s just a minor inconvenience.
I’m not saying Nelson has screwed White cuz I don’t know. But yep, he’ll have more than wife in the afterlife…if Mormonism proves true that is.
I would like to make a correction, the church spent 1.5 billion from 1985-2011. Which is 26 years, not the 20 mentioned. That is about 58 million per year. Meaning they spent less than 10% on something they demand their own members to do. Also that the church made 1.5 billion off it's for profit business in 1991 alone. I was once Mormon. Thank you for this video for helping me out with this. I don’t know what to do now though. I am still a minor and living with my parents however I have not told them about how I lost my faith. I’m quite frankly scared and don’t know what to do. But thank you for making this video to help others like me find our way out of this church.
If you are just nervous about how it will affect your relationship, try asking your parents if they would still love you no matter what choices you made. If they struggle to answer this question, it might be wise to wait to tell them until they can assure you that their love is unconditional.
If you are concerned that your parents might retaliate, make sure you are financially independent, have your own bank account, and ideally your own place before telling your parents anything. This will remove their power to punish or manipulate you.

@@karatekar5018 the problem I have with this is that I don’t believe god isn’t real I believe that there I s some sort of god out there like where not just here on this earth for no reason. Maybe we live in a simulation and our god is the one that made it or maybe it is just a controller of some sort just preparing us for what happens after earth. But all I believe now is that the Mormon church Is not the one I want to follow they have done some bad things major (for lack of a better term) ‘plot holes’ in what they believe and they manipulate the people in the church and I just don’t want to be part of that it’s not somthing I want to do and I just want to find my own path. With me leaving the church I have had so much joy that I haven’t felt before like real freedom. I have actual agency unlike when I was in the church. And I haven’t even officially left yet. This has all happened in my brain and now I don’t feel shameful for whatever I do like someone is always watching. Also the church has majorly damaged my mental health with all the extra activities and work I have to do like seminary and stress about what will happen if I go on a mission. And on top of exams and school and social stress it’s hard to deal with and it takes up a lot of my time. That’s why I don’t think it’s the right choice to find another way back to the church I’ve pondered, prayed, and studied about it and I’ve come to the conclusion that I can’t stay in this church

Number 2: right now religion isn’t what I’m looking for I don’t want to be put into a certain group of what I am supposed to do/believe plus I don’t think religion is a group I’m supposed to follow I think it’s something that me as a person should believe. I’m not saying what you believe is invalid I’m just saying I don’t want to be put into a box of what I can and can’t do and just live by treat other people well. I’ve gone to a Christian church and I have been ridiculed for my sexuality and the way I act and I just want to be my own person without being part of a group

Oh man! It’s so hard. As a minor most of us lived with our parents & had to respect their rules. You’ll be an adult before you know it. I was in your shoes 30 years ago, pre-internet. Use the information you now have at your fingertips to your benefit. It’s a convenient tool to help you navigate relationships & explain things more succinctly by sharing a video like this one rather than trying to explain yourself. Have patience with your LDS family. We can’t expect them to shed a lifetime of indoctrination overnight. They’ll likely get defensive & upset initially. The most powerful thing we can do as former-Mormons is to be a good example & show our religious friends & loved ones that being a good person has nothing to do with religion. Common sense is inherent. We can trust ourselves to know right from wrong without an imaginary ghost, or 10% of our income. Best of luck! You’re not alone. Interesting information. Not a Mormon but I know many. I never argue religion with them, but I am fascinated to learn about it, as well as other religions.
Then learn facts not a bunch of crap. I’ve been LDS all my life. There was a time I didn’t believe in anything but I had several spiritual experiences that I cannot deny. If I did deny them I would be in the judgement of God. I don’t expect you or anyone to believe me. I have spent nearly forty years in research of church history. I will tell you this that anyone and that is on both sides only writes their perception. You have to sift through all of it to even get a closer look at what may have really happened. Critics of the church have only one agenda. That is destroy a persons faith. If they can place doubts in that persons mind that is half the battle. I have found answers to every claim presented by critics. But many people don’t want to spend the time. The restoration took place and there are living prophets today. I have had to many confirmations to say other wise. It’s up to each individual to search for the truth. Now why someone would search for truth from those who are committed to destroy it is beyond me. If I wanted to find out about the real you would I go to someone that hated your guts? How much truth would be in what they told me. Not much.

I never really took being Mormon seriously. I kept wanting to go to church all because people were really nice and cool. As for the teachings I learned, they were pretty useful as you were basically taught to be a good person and to help others. The history with Joseph Smith n stuff like that never really made sense to me.

Where are all the Mormons disproving these issues in the video? I see lots of people saying these claims are lies, but then they never come back with any evidence.
One thing I’ll never understand is some of those witnesses became hardcore anti-lds, yet they never denied what they said they saw, that’s the only thing that has me barely holding on to it possibly being true.

And the eight witnesses didn't sign. Oliver Cowdery signed all of their names.
@@Dawnyy a lot of early members had issues with church leadership, especially after Joseph died. They left the Church because of this but they never denied the book of Mormon
