    Hi, this is my first tutorial! It describes a method of coloring grayscale paintings using a base atmospheric/ambient color that I've always found to be much easier than other coloring techniques. I hope this helps some of you :)
    If you have trouble with integrating your character into their environment, this atmospheric color method should really help with that~
    Please comment below if you have any suggestions or things you want me to make a tutorial on!

    I saw your recent Rayla speedpaint and I was blown away by your method. I'm an art newb and I've been using Krita for basic illustration, but I never knew it could do stuff like this. Thanks for the tutorial.

    Really cool drawing and I learned a lot, a small tip though is also showing how to access everything you mention, because I don't know how to actually do half the things you say :o Like the atmospheric part, the way to go about it. So showing where you find it and how to do it would be a big plus! Otherwise amazing video!

    Please do more tutorial, it's really helpful. I saw your other video using medibang. It would be nice if you do some tutorial using medibang as there are not many tutorials using medibang. You are such a great artist. Thank you for this tutorial

      thank you for the feedback, i am glad you liked my tutorial. unfortunately, i mostly draw with krita now instead of medibang so i do not plan to make any medibang tutorials, but most tutorials are about drawing or digital art and should work in both programs.
      here are some really good medibang artists that have tutorials:

    Thanks fer the really useful tutorial! I've been trying to learn how to paint, but a lot of the tutorials are use Photoshop only techniques that don't translate well to Krita, so your tutorial is really great! Just a small question though... When you were painting with in the multiply layer, how did you avoid the usually sharp overlap that happens when two strokes go over each other?

    • @Alartriss
      @Alartriss  3 года назад

      I'm glad it helped! There's a couple different things that I believe might be causing the overlap you're talking about, so I'll try to answer all scenarios I can think of:
      1) You're using a brush with an opacity less than 100%. For the multiply layer, I used a brush on full opacity, so that there wouldn't be any overlap effect. Then, to adjust the opacity, I changed the layer opacity (the % bar on the layer docker). That gets you a much more even color than trying to use a, say, 20% opacity brush on a 100% opaque layer.
      2) You're using a brush with the multiply effect instead of painting and then setting the layer blending mode to multiply. The way to know if you're doing this is if the dropdown menu at the top, to the left of the brush opacity and brush size sliders, is what you're using. Instead, you should use the dropdown menu that is part of the layer docker (for me, that is on the right side of the screen). Your brush blending mode should be "normal" and your layer blending mode should be "multiply"
      3) You're using the "Adjust Multiply" brush. This is the same issue as 2), where you're using the brush blending mode instead of layer blending. Simply use another brush on "normal" and switch to layer blending instead of brush blending.
      If you have future troubles with Krita, I highly recommend checking out the krita-artists.org/ forum---there are actual devs over there and really experienced people that can help more than I can :)

    Hey i saw your videos, thank you so much your method very enlighten me how to coloring from grayscale. I have a question, right now im using medibang, what makes you change your app from medibang to krita? Is krita better? Right now im using mouse to draw, which app u recommend easier? Especially for blending. Sorry for my english

    • @Alartriss
      @Alartriss  4 года назад +1

      Hello! I switched to Krita because I felt like I was limited by Medibang's brush system. Medibang is a very good art program but I wanted to use more textured and unique brushes in my paintings and Krita was better for that. I do think that Krita is better than Medibang, and it has more features, but it is much harder to learn how to use.
      I have never used a mouse to draw, so I do not know which app is easier for that.

      honestly i usually just pick the color to be whatever vibe i want, in this particular occasion i chose blue because i wanted the character to be under the sky

    hey can i ask what brush you mostly use for painting this? tysm:)

    • @Alartriss
      @Alartriss  3 года назад +1

      hello! you can see the brushes i am using in the bottom left. if i'm remembering correctly, i think i mostly used "dry textured blocky" (a custom brush) and "dry textured creases" (a default krita brush) for this painting in particular ^_^
