Another way to avoid the sketch layer from interfering with the R shortcut is to lock it. Then you can still see the sketch, but it will not be selected.
I'm pleasantly surprised by how similar it looks to Photoshop. Nearly all of these are options I use regularly right now. Only the clipping layers (locking alphas) looks a bit more tedious here, but I think I could live with that. Once my Photoshop discount runs out, I think I'll be using Krita.
I believe there are also ways to do clipping layers in a similar way to how photoshop does it in Krita. I just find that this way runs a bit faster so that's what I shared! It may seem a little tedious in the video, but once you get used to it, it doesn't feel too bad :)
I've been using krita for close to 2 years so I've learnt most this stuff over time and trail and error, but that shift + backspace will save me hours of work down the road as I work with selections a lot. thanks a ton :D
@@Noctualis You can change the behaviour of the fill tool in the tool option docker. You can tell it to disregard all other layers and only sample current layer or you can also tell it to sample layers with specific colour labels.
Omg, you've no idea how much i wish to find this video sooner . How many hours i would save with that tip to find layers! But better latter them ever! Great video!
I've been using krita forever now but I'm still finding new shortcuts, the R shortcut and color picking one will likely be my new fave cause I always have a buttload of layers and its so difficult to grab colors I've got to undo filters and everything this is awesome! also found some new brushes to try so yeehaw
Regarding to transform tool or crop tool , you dont really need to press Enter button to make the changes i usually press B to get back to my brush and krita still makes these changes. I find it faster.
i've always struggled with painting because it was so tedious to keep on brushing with the pen while trying to avoid color from going out of the outline. your explanation of everything is so clear and simple! thank you
I remember watching this video when I started digital art. Now I noticed it in my recommended. Felt really nice coming back.. Thank you, from past and present me :) ♥
I have been using krista for a year and literally all of this stuff you are showcasing is things I've never known. I've looked at countless tutorials, but this is undoubtedly the best one I've seen. Thank you!!
Kind of a beginner to Krita and I'm very happy I got recommended this! All of these tips were incredibly helpful to me and I'm so eager to put them all to use!!!
What a treasure chest of tips! Thank you so much. I'm going to need to watch and practice all this many times in order to make it habit. There's so much great information on this video!!!
the last tip with color picking tool is so helpful! I always use some multiply layer or overlay and it's so tiring to keep changing it back to normal, color pick it, and then putting it back to multiply so this helps a lot!!!
The video gets right into the details efficiently and helps me to use Krita in a more productive way. I prefer your way of teaching over many other howtos on RUclips where details of understanding are left off. Thanks for the wonderful howto!
I started using Krita in like March, and this stuff? It's mindblowing. I think I need to write on paper every of this to renember them 💀 Thank you really
This is a very helpful, useful video! Adding a comment and a like in the hope it will help push this video up in Krita search results. Some other tips that might help save a beginner digital artist some headaches off the top of my head: - Before even starting digital painting I'd recommend having a solid knowledge on how to draw first or else you'll be making things harder for yourself by trying to learn all those fundamental skills on top of trying to figure out your painting program and how it works. Sure it's doable but it's an added layer of difficulty -Mirror your canvas often! You'd be surprised just how easy it is to paint on an unintentional angle, I couldn't believe my own eyes on how tilted and bad my proportions could be because it all looked fine at the time. It might seem trivial but is really powerful and easy to use, so use it! -The Tool Options docker is Krita's hidden, secret weapon. There are a ton of options there to be explored and can really change how various tools behave. Oh, and just a little context for the 5 key resetting your canvas rotation, 4 will rotate left and 6 will rotate right by 15 degrees I believe. So in that context 5 makes sense. Hope this helps somebody and again, great video!
Awesome video. I was never going to figure out locking alphas and inheriting alphas naturally lol. Also that ctrl+alt color picker is such a lifesaver, thanks.
Just starting and I used to use procreate this really helped me with the shortcuts and understanding. I loved how you explained it and went into the motions. This was top tier thank you:))
the ctrl alt color picking is an absolute life saver. I've been struggling to use the multiply layer for so long cause it's so tedious to go back and color pick everytime
About color picking, I've always used Alt key on the specified layer to show only that layer on the canvas, then picked from it the color I needed. So the Ctrl + Alt proves to be an excellent alternative! By the way, you can also use the Alt key I mentioned above on the groups. I personally find it very helpful when I work on lights and shadows in the piece with rough contours. I click on the Colors group to hide all outlines and see how my image presents without it. Ah, I just remembered, in the Transform tool if you use Alt key, you can stretch both sides simultaneously, or in other words: keep the center in the same place (can be used with Shift to resize whole piece without moving its center). Anyhow, great video and cute cat! Thanks a lot!
This is the first tutorial of yours I've watched and see it's also the first that you narrated, thank you very much for adding the voice over. I'm hoping you'll be doing more where you explain things instead of the speed views. Awesome work.
For filling a layer with 1 color, you can change the reference the bucket tool uses in the tool options docker. You can select the option for using only the current layer as a reference and this will make the bucket tool fill the entire layer without accounting for other layers.
Wow, thank you so much for this video!!! Your voice is lovely, you can explain everything very clearly and moreover these tips are one of the best Krita tips I've seen!

Thank you sooo much for this video!!! I was just going mad about the alpha and inherent alpha locking thing. That and every other tip you mentioned has been soo helpful
Great video! Btw if you look at the tool options the transform tool has a lot more use, like liquifying and warping the object. There you can also limit the paint bucket tool to current layer so it doesn't see edges that are on other layers
Oh, I didn't know it had liquify in it too! That's good to know! I did notice after recording this that you could set it to one layer in the tools docker. Probably will do a part 2 with some more of the UI stuff like that 😁 thanks for sharing more tips!
