- Today we switch it up. Though we would go for a drive and discuss some hard hitting topics.
Power tour 2024 just ended and I saw way more posts of people complaining than enjoying it. It's supposed to be fun, enjoy the suck! Mur shows ya few new tools and we talk about buying a few new cars.

In the Summer of 1963 Mom, Dad, Sis, Aunt and I piled into a brand new 1962 Impala SS convertible. Dad drove from Upstate NY to DisneyLand in California. Stopping along the way at The Grand Canyon, Vegas, SaltLake City, Jackson Yellowstone, Cody, and Mt. Rushmore. 2 weeks in a car with minimal motel stops was a blast. Now you got me wanting to pull out the old Super 8 home movies from that trip.😊😊😊
Try the Syracuse Nationals, if you want traffic, lines and heat. Around 8000 cars in the middle of July

We did from Iowa to CA, pretty much same stops, in 1972. We were in a 1968 Plymouth convertible.

I've lived in homeless shelters ' live in a shit part of the Bronx ' in a shit 1 bedroom apartment and don't own a car at all. I live vicariously through You tube channels like DD SPEEDSHOP. THANK YOU DAN.
You brought a Leatherman, pliers and a fire extinguisher. You also brought Mur; he’s your ace in the hole.

I was the guy with the silver and black 57 150 last year. You threw down the gauntlet to me the year prior to go, and I ran with it. I spent months prepping the car, and when I got my long haul plaque I’m not going to lie, I shed a tear. Not only was it a great experience, but my car did it without missing a beat… I was just so proud that I did it, but also that she did it, and did it well!! I will never forget that experience and hope to do it again one year !
You gotta test yourself every now and again. Awesome to see it on the road man!
In the 80's my parents took us young kids on a two week road trip every year when the school year ended. Basic Dodge van, not conversion, towing a Coleman popup and 70's Boy Scouts tents. We experienced all the wonders of the u.s.

Mur, you are spot on about California. You can be completely immersed in whatever you want or be completely removed from it all. Take that road trip.
i dont know about anyone else, but i love these podcast with mur!!!! HE IS THE FUN TO WATCH!, and his interaction with dan is priceless!!!!!

Check your spark plugs for coolant on them. White smoke is coolant.
With the amount of knowledge Dan has about cars I'm pretty sure he is quite aware of this.
I'm thinking that his positive crank case tube behind the distributor is plugged up. That compression wil leak past the valve seals and force oil into the combustion chamo. Hence smoke during hard acceleration.
People expect Power Tour to be like some local little cruise-in...all rainbows and smiles. I never understood why people expect to breeze right in each venue and have a red carpet laid out for them, when there's 5000-6000 other cars all going to the exact same place. If people who've been on PT bitch about it, I don't know what they expect. Doesn't make sense to me.
Hell! People come from the other side of the world just for PT and you don't hear them bitching!

Starter alt fuel pump water pump an hei 4 pin pick up in the glove box . Small tool box . Ready for stress free road trip if you bring them you won't need them . If you don't you will need them . Funny how it works

This year was our first Power Tour and we had an absolute blast! Too bad you guys weren't there, would have loved to meet you guys.

The 3M crimp heat shrink butt splices are the best overall connection. It will not fail due to a short and heating of the conductor. Solder will always heat and lose connection under these conditions. They are even approved for connections in Nuclear facility’s. Soldering is prohibited regardless of how it’s supported. It’s a solder sucker.
I ended up with a giant smile on my face as Dan was turning off the camera - great ride y'all :)
you guys /girls are amazing, love the driving pod cast, I was all misty remembering all the trips I did with my dad in the last few yrs before his passing at 98, once a week we'd travel just like you guys through the village and reminisce do some reconnaissance and return 4 hrs later to moms err, dives with Dads are to cherished.

Went on a family road trip in 2016 from the east coast to west. 7500 miles in two weeks. A LOT of driving daily. Saw a lot of sites, Grand Canyon, Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, etc. We did it in a minivan, family of 5 doesn’t fit in my squarebody. We had a blast.

Great Podcast Dan, Murr and Danielle! I loved it being in the 55 Nomad! Man, that is a NICE headliner, and the bows and mirror are beautiful. A black 57 Chevy with a red interior would be perfect for Murr!. Nice Father's Day gift too!

I had a 64 ford pickup with a 300 6cylinder motor. What I really liked about it was thec3 on the tree shifter. Such a joy to drive.
I've always wanted to go but 10mpg and my truck needs some serious over proofing to be able to do that drive and sustain the heat etc. You guys brought up lots of great points!

Just did my first Power Tour. Lines were great for all the venues, actually, except for getting out of day 1 at Beech Bend. It was a great first experience!
"Power Tour Sucks!" I pretty much have to agree. I went for the first time ever this year, all the way from Phoenix, AZ, in my 383/4 speed Chevy S-10. NO A/C. I knew I was going to roast. I didn't realize just how much. It was 110 degrees F on the day I left. I had an ice chest full of diet Mountain Dew on the seat beside me. I wore earplugs because the sound of my exhaust was really starting to get to me out on the open road. I have a tonneau cover over the bed, so I decided to sleep in the bed on an air mattress. Because of my custom exhaust and some modifications to the rear suspension, the spare tire no longer fit under the back, I have to carry it in the bed. I took it out and shoved it under the back of the truck. There was no air circulation in the bed with a cover on it, it was like being in an oven. I didn't really have any expectations, other than what I had seen on RUclips. It was more crowded than I thought. In several places traffic was barely moving, so no air was coming in through the windows. Why did they have to pick the middle of summer for this? It would have been completely different if not for the heat. I don't think I have ever been more glad to get back home to my A/C. I got a shirt, hat, and sticker. The truck ran just fine. It did a lot better than I did. I won't be going back. Oh by the way, I'm 65 years old.
I live in Northern California and can tell you that it is really nice on the coast between san francisco and los angeles. A lot less populated and the climate is wonderful. Try San Luis Obispo or pismo Beach. Great BBQ and wineries nearby

Hi there! Man, we just LOVE these Monday chats with you 3! Just awesome.
And when you were talking about road trips it brought back such memories. We had the good fortune to road trip through all 50 states...our recommendations:
1) All through New England in the fall...no where else like it! We lived in that area for a while and went to and fro everywhere!
2) We did the Pacific Coast Highway from La Jolla to Canada,...totally awesome! If you ever do this, don't miss the redwood forest in northern CA and also a circuit of the Olympic Peninsula. Lots of other epic places along the way!
3)The Big Island of Hawaii...first thing we did after landing was rent a 4wd Jeep and we went everywhere...even places that we weren't supposed to. A circuit of the island is awesome...don't miss the volcanoes, Hilo, Waipio (sp?) Valley, and the top of Mauna Kea!!!
Lots more...there are just so many cool places and roads in the states. Along the way we did a lot of off-roading as well...mostly we drove a 2005 Sierra Z71. Still have it...going on 260k miles and runs like new.

My family did road trips throughout my childhood. I continue that trend with my wife and kids and will continue to do it. Road trips are fun even with the headaches, lol.
In 1960, I rode all the way to California in the back window.Back ledge we used to call it my 2 brothers and sister slept on the seat and the floor in a 1950 something Desoto from michigan to California and back Mom and dad's seat would lean back So they could sleep.and we did not get any motels there or back.
I lived in Vancouver, Burnaby, Kelowna, and Victoria. I am now living in Nanaimo and I love it here for the most part. Healthcare is overwhelmed here, but it's the best I can expect.
Well, Dan is the king of half-fast, or it'll do. I could say many things about his hotrods, but it won't change anything.
I used to live in Bay area in the198s then I discovered the Mendocino County Coast. And it's beautiful, no traffic, and I have an Ocean view everyday. You guys should definitely cruise the Coast Hwy 1!

And tell Mur, when they go on their trip, if he's passing through WI, they have a place to stay...
I had a blast the wait should be expected. 100% if your car overheats you have a problem fix it first or pick a different car.

You need to put under dash ac in that car ! The kits are like 600.oo
Perhaps add transmission oil to pistons a let sit for a few days to see if the rings loosen up.

Mur, that soundslike an epic road trip! Ive been down most of Hwy 101. Its breath-taking! Hopefully not afraid of heights cause you woukd not alot of it on the Oregon side. Ive lived in Oregon basically my whole life

Put some water in a spray bottle, squirt down the yap, should loosen up those oil rings. Have car heated up. Maybe try some b12 if the water doesn't work

Ive aiways wanted to do the route 66 with no deadline on time. And do it in a proper hotrod big block 4 speed 55. Or a big block 66 or 67 chevelle

Great video! The Newmadd is in perfect condition for what you used it for in this video, toodling around town, looking cool, and driving it within its limits. Who cares about a little smoke, the engine is just well broken in! :>)

Come see us in Humboldt Co. California. No crowds, drive the coast and through the Redwoods. Mid 60s in Summer. Just stay away from the big cities. What people don't realize is most of California is rural and beautiful.
Happy Father’s Day to all! Buying from a garage sale and selling to Canadian Tire is no different than buying from a garage sale and selling it on Ebay! It is done every day your dad just thought of it first.
I have used Engine Restore for V8 engines. It worked great. Stopped the smoking. Used one can per oil change. Used in my Mazda GLC and it had 450K before dying.
Went on power tour 2024. Had a great time, no complaints. A few things we did not like so much, like traffic on the designated routes, were easily solved by charting our own course on different back roads. Still ran into lots of people doing the same thing on the tour. Plan your timing for venue arrival if you don’t like lines, later in the day is easy to get in and out.
Definitely will be going again. Great time and great people.

I did the great American road trip in the summer of 21, bought a new Toyota Highlander and drove 5000 miles from Mississippi to Arizona/Utah with tons of stops in between. Saw the Grand Canyon, many of the great state parks, it’s called the grand circle road trip. It was awesome. 14days on the road.

Mur and Dan you are lucky to have such a good relationship. My father and I got along but that was about it we share any common likes.
My son has not spoken to me in almost 2 years over his mother and I divorcing 45 years ago.

Two years ago, I loaded my family into a 92 Lincoln town car limousine in northern Michigan hit avoid highway on the GPS and went all the way down to Southern Georgia and that limousine and we camped the whole way. I bought one hotel room on my way there that was one of the best trips I have ever been on.
That sounds epic!
Power Tour 2024 drove within 1/4 mile of my house between Nashville TN and Louisville KY. Lots of cool autos. 😎

Spot on. If something on my car breaks, like, say, an alternator, I drive it home and drive another car to go pick one up. I don't work on the side of the road unless I have no choice. It sucks. Not only do you have a hard time getting to an auto part's store, but often you need to order the parts in. Having said all of that, I love to watch vice grip garage.
Get the trans overdrive working , you'll love it. And a BIG asset on a power tour for MPG
You need to add some lead additive to your gasoline because your heads don't have hardened steel seats for the valves...
You know the guy who has the garage sale every weekend, I never stop there.
Dan if you set yourself up for success,You ll. have a great time even when you do you have the alternator that all of a sudden it goes bad. That maybe why somebody bring a new car to these power tours. My moto is when you go plan ahead and also try to help other that are less fortunate and try to have a good time Dan
CA it is NOT what it use to be , Crime & Traffic Very BAD all over the state unfortunately.
Plus adding a performance exhaust the cops will go after you instead of criminals stealing from stores. They only go after the people who can pay fines. Plus their gas cans bite yo.

My 350 in my blazer would smoke and make blow by only under good load on the highway until I severely overheated it! That fixed it lol

I have been everywhere. Columbia river valley in fall is beautiful. The 1 doesn't always hug the coast. I have a picture of me mooning the camera inside the drive through redwood tree. (Dilly kid) Redwood forest is well worth the time, fern valley.

My wife and I now live near the beach in North Florida and we are in love with it. Yeah it gets hot here, but there’s a/c and the pool and we’re used to it now. Aside from the hotter weather, it’s all the best things California was in the 60’s and 70’s.

Ive never been but it's a goal. I want to do one next year for my sons hs graduation. I talked to one guy about what the most important thing was to bring. He said patients lol. You know the food is high. You know the lines are long. It's mass groups charging one location for one day then off to the next lol.

I've never owned an 80s car. Started legally driving in 1972 and I had a 61 Impala. I've had over 30 cars but no 80s. Latest 70s car was a 79 Mustang and earliest 90s car was a Cavalier wagon. My most travelled car was a 78 Monte Carlo bought new and a 70, Cadillac DeVille 4dr hardtop. My best car, 2000 Impala. My worst, 46 Willy's Jeep
